      • 분리 세포의 단층세포 배양법에 의한 인체 비점막 상피세포의 배양

        비중격 만곡증 환자의 비내수술시 체취한 정상하비갑개 점막조직으로부터 상피세포만을 분리세포의 단층배양법(monolayer culture of dissociated cells)으로 배양하여 비점막 상피세포 배양법을 정립하고 또한 배양된 세포가 상피세포임을 동정하기 위하여 간접 면역형광항체법으로 상피세포 특유의 cytokeratin을 확인하였고 투과전자현미경으로 상피세포만이 가지고 있는 교소체(desmosome) 및 장세사(tonofilament) 등을 확인하였으며 6회까지 계대배양을 할 수 있었다. 향후 본 연구에서 배양된 비점막 상피세포를 이용하여 알레르기성비염 등과 같은 비점막 염증성 질환의 병태생리에서 상피세포의 역할에 대한 연구와 호산구등 염증세포의 침윤과 상피세포의 손상에 접착분자 및 cytokine의 상호작용에 관한 연구가 계속될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다. Different techniques for culturing respiratory epithelial cells have been developed to overcome the limitations of studies on in vivo and on bioptic material. Traditionally, culture systems are divided into organ cultures, explant cultures and dissociated cell cultures. The first two contain both epithelial and non-epithelial cells. However, in monolayer cultures of dissociated cells only epithelial cells are present, the effects observed are caused by a pure epithelial responses. The purpose of this study is to establish primary culture method of human nasal epithelium (HNEC) by monolayer culture of dissociated cells to evaluate the role of the epithelial cells in the allergic and non-allergic nasal inflammatory reactions. HNEC was prepared by primary culture method of monolayer culture of dissociated cells from human inferior nasal turbinate mucosa of septal deviation patients. Primary cultured cells were characterized by indirect immunofluorescence assay and transmission electron microscopy. The immunoreactivities of cytokeratin-pan and cytokeratin No. 8 were observed in cultured HNEC. However, the immoreactivities of vimentin and von Willebrand factor were not observed in cultured HNEC. The tonofilaments and desmosome were observed in cultured HNCE. The cultured epithelial cells were identified to be pure nasal epithelial cells. The monolayer culture of dissociated cells could successfully be employed for further study to investigate the role of the epithelial cells in allergic or non-allergic nasal inflammatory diseases.

      • Testosteron Cyclopentylproponate의 造血促進作俑에 關한 硏究

        The author studied the erythropoietic response to testosterone cyclopentylpropionate as indicated by erythropoietin activity as well as marrow nucleated red cell count in albino rats and the following results were obtained. (1) The albino female rats injected with a single dose of 60 ㎎/㎏ of body weight of testosterone cyclopentylpropionate intramuscularly showed an enhanced erythropoietin activity and marrow nucleated red cell count on the third day reaching their peaks by the seventh day and followed by a gradual decline. (2) The optimum single dose of testosterone cyclopentylpropionate for erythropoietic response was 120 ㎎/㎏ of body weight among the groups of 30 ㎎/㎏, 60㎎/㎏, 120㎎/㎏ and 240㎎/㎏ of body weight. (3) The erythropoietin activity and marrow nucleated red cell count measured one week after a single dose of 60 ㎎/㎏ of body weight of testosterone cyclopentylpropionate in male and female rats revealed the latter sex to have greater response than the former.

        To know the basic grading system of beef, the beef grading standards of U.S.A. Japan, Australia and Newzealand were reviewed and comparative studies were made. The reconized significants were summarized as follows: 1. The grading was practiced on the carcass basis as the beef grade. 2. For the grading system, the carcasses were prepared by the standard processes and classified into the same sex conditions and age groups. 3. All the grading standard were composed by the quality factors and the yielding factors of beef. 4. The principle grading factors were carcass weight, conformation, muscling degree and eye muscle area for estimating the meat yield. And maturity, marbling degree or fat covering were for estimating the meat quality. 5. There were two kinds of standards; quality grades and yield grades, in the U.S. meat grading system. 6. Including the meat quality and conformation, the minimum carcass weights were fixed for each grades in Japan. 7. In Australia, only the grading standard for export meat was existed and the consisting grading factors were carcass weight, sex condition, maturity, fat covering and conformation. 8. In New Zealand, the grading standard were provided for export meat only, and it was consisted by the muscling degree and fat covering.

        In 1962, a case of "generalized skeletal dysplasia with multiple anomalies" was reported by Taybi as a new clinical syndrome. The most characteristic features of the syndrome seemed to be hearing loss, cleft palate and peculiar digital anomalies, so, the syndrome designated as otopalatodigital syndrome by Dudding, et al. Recently, The authors have experienced a case OPD syndrome who visited Yeungnam University Hospital with the chief complaint of hypernasality, and underwent pharyngoplasty for correction of VPI. We present here a new case and review the literature on the subject.

        식육의 연도측정법

        The literature was reviewed to bring together the methods of evaluating tenderness of meats. Tenderness is evaluated subjectively by taste panels and objectively by the use of mechanical devices, chemical analysis, and histological observations. The preference test has been used to test the tenderness of two samples, cooked by two methods. When more than two samples were scored, numerical values representing different degrees of tenderness were assigned to the samples. Adjectives describing tenderness often accompained numerical values. Counting the number of chews necessary to thoroughly masticate a piece of meat has been used to establish a relative rating for tenderness in beef. The Warner-Bratzler shearing apparatus has been used in many experiments to measure tenderness, although the data resulting from its use do not always correlate with tenderness scores of a taste panel. Other mechanical devices include the dynamometer, penetrometer, kramer shear press, and a denture tenderometer. Evaluation of the tenderness of beef muscles by chemical analysis was made chiefly by the measurement of collagen nitrogen by the kjeldahl method. Histological studies have been made to determine the diameter and extensibility of the muscle fibers, the numbers of fibers per bundle, and the changes in fibers brought about by ripening. Studies of the relationship of the proportion of elastic and collagenous connective tissue to tenderness were made by several investigators.
