N/A This paper reviews research activities of some mechanical test methods for advanced composites which have been conducted in Fukuda laboratory, Tokyo University of Science. The subjects are (1) innovation and development of compression bending test, (2) mechanical-property evaluation of soft-core sandwich beam, and (3) loop test to measure the strength of monofilaments. In the present paper, three subjects related to mechanical test method were reviewed. They are (1) innovation and development of compression bending test, (2) mechanical-property evaluation of soft-core sandwich beam, and (3) loop test to measure the strength of monofilamens and the followings are the summary. (1) Compression bending test and eccentric compression bending test was successfully applied to flat coupons and pipes made of CFRP. (2) Mechanical properties of CFRP/formed core sandwich beams were evaluated. Notable finding is that the shearing modulus of core strongly depends on the specimen configuration. (3) A loop test was tried to measure the strength of monofilaments used for advanced composites. Correlation between tensile test and loop test was also tried.
CALS oriented design/fabrication information system for steel bridges
Hiroshi Isohata,Masahiko Fukuda,Sueo Watanabe 국제구조공학회 2003 Steel and Composite Structures, An International J Vol.3 No.1
In this paper design and fabrication information system for steel bridge construction is studied and proposed according to the progress of Construction CALS/EC in the construction industry in Japan. The data exchange in this system bases on the text file as well as CAD data with simplified drawings. The concept of this system is discussed following the analysis on the issues of the conventional system. The application of the product model is also discussed including effects and issues on the inspection system. This paper is based on the study carried out by Special Committee on Construction CALS of JASBC to which author belong.

In this research, we propose an energy-efficient predictive control system with outside-air-introduced-type air conditioner in large-scale data center. The system consists of two parts; a predictive part and a control part. We propose to use a dynamic model construction technique called just-in-time (JIT) modeling in the predictive part. It can estimate the air temperature and humidity in the DC room and temperature at the inlet of servers at a high accuracy while the update of data center model is constructed naturally. We also propose to use a control algorithm that utilizes air enthalpy at outside and DC room in addition to the air temperature and humidity in the control part. Owing to the enthalpy, we achieve an effective energy-saving with both wet and dry air. We introduced this predictive control system to a large-scale data center and had verified the improvement in the energy-saving performance for few month. The air temperature and humidity after one hour could be successfully estimated with an accuracy of correlation coefficient of 0.97 or more using the proposed JIT modeling. Furthermore, we demonstrated that the power consumption of the DC room was significantly reduced by 28.9% using the proposed control algorithm compared to that of the conventional control algorithm.
Graphiumins I and J, New Thiodiketopiperazines from the Marine-derived Fungus Graphium sp. OPMF00224

Two new thiodiketopiperazines (TDKPs), designated graphiumins I (1) and J (2), were isolated from the culture broth of the marine-derived fungus Graphium sp. OPMF00224 by solvent extraction, silica gel column chromatography, and HPLC. Their absolute structures were elucidated by spectroscopic analyses (1D and 2D NMR data, ROESY correlations, and CD data) and chemical methods. They were found to be structurally rare TDKPs with a phenylalanine-derived indolin substructure. Compounds 1 and 2 inhibited yellow pigment production by methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) with IC50 values of 63.5 and 76.5 mg/ml, respectively, without inhibiting its growth, even at 250 mg/ml.

A cooling control method based on a model predictive control (MPC) for a modular datacenter utilizing the fresh-air is proposed. The proposed method reduces the total energy consumption of information technology (IT) equipment and cooling facilities in the data center, while considering a relationship between energy-savings and the temperature information of IT equipment. This method based on MPC controls the central processing unit (CPU) temperature in servers by facility fans for cooling. To design the proposed method, it is developed a prediction model that represents the CPU temperature by the revolution speed of facility fans, the fresh-air temperature, utilization of servers, and other factors. Furthermore, the proposed control method is applied to the actual modular data center. The energy consumption of the proposed method is compared with that of a traditional method, which has controlled the temperature difference between the inlet and outlet of the server racks based on proportional integral (PI) control. Actual comparison experiments with traditional method are provided to validate effectiveness of the proposed method. The results show that the proposed method realizes energy-savings of more than 20% compared to the traditional control method in the actual modular datacenter.

Leptospiral lipopolysaccharide (L-LPS) has shown potency in activating toll-like receptor 2 (TLR2) in pig fibroblasts (PEFs_NCC1), and causes the expression of proinflammatory cytokines. However, the stimulation by L-LPS was weak eliciting the function of TLR2 sufficiently in pig innate immunity responses during Leptospira infection. In this study, the immune response of pig embryonic fibroblast cell line (PEFs_SV40) was investigated and was found to be the high immune response, thus TLR2 is the predominate receptor of L-LPS in pig cells. Further, we found a strategy using the antibody against L-LPS, to prevent L-LPS interaction with TLR2 in pig cells which could impact on immune activation.
