As a preliminary step to develop noble immunomodulatory lectins from Korean basidiomycetes, 32 species of wild mushrooms were collected and their lectin activities were screened using hemagglutination assay. As a result, cold-water extract of 21 species including Thelephora terrestris showed agglutination activities From T. terrestrisa, partially purified lectin fractions, cTTL_(50) and cTTL_(100), were prepared by extraction with cold phosphate-buffered saline (pH 7.2), precipitation with ammonium sulfate and then dialysis Of these. cTTL_(100) was found to be a strong immunomodulating lectin in that it aggluinated BALB/c erythrocytes and sarcoma 180 tumor cells at the concentration of ≥1.95 ㎍/㎖ and ≥39 ㎍/㎖, respectively, and stimulated the peritoneal macrophages to spread at 200 ㎍/㎖.

The purposes of this article are to find the general trends of unmarried men and women's mate selection conditions, to estimate the differences according to related variables and to analyze the effects of significant variables influencing on mate selection. The samples were selected from the unmarried 164 men and 235 women living in Kwang-ju. The major findings are as follows; 1. All scores of mate selection conditions were higher than medium. Especially in desirable spouse conditions, women's were higher than men's. Move valued spouse conditions were women's apperance, health, family background in men and all conditions in women. Women desired more similar and interactional conditions than men. 2. External and internal conditions were significantly different from age, work in men and age, father's and mother's age in women. Homogeneous and interactional conditions were significantly different from sex role attitude, premarital sexual experience in men and age, education, work, father's age, love necessity of marriage, sex role attitude, premarital sexual experience in women. 3. External and internal conditions were influenced by work in men and mother's and father's age in women. Homogeneous conditions were influenced by premarital sexual experience, necessity of marriage in men and age, premarital sexual experi-ence, necessity of marriage in women. Interactional conditions were influenced by sex role attitude, father's age in men and sex role attitude, education, work in women.

본 연구는 국내 공공의 교통시설인 철도역사의 유휴공간를 복육시설로 활용하기 위한 기초 연구이다. 현재 국내에는 전국에 667개의 철도역사가 소재되어 있으며, 철도이용객이 연간 11억명이 넘어서는 등 철도이용이 활발함에도 공간의 시설적 측면에서 공간복지의 개념을 적용한 사례를 매우 드문 실정이다. 따라서 본 연구의 연구대상은 일본의 JR 동일본이 추진 및 시행하고 있는 Happy Child Project를 대상으로 하여, 국내보다 20여년전부터 공간복지의 개념을 적용하여 철도역 내 보육시설을 적극적으로 보급하고 있는 일본의 역내 보육시설 활용방안을 제도적 측면에서 분석하였다. 본 연구결과를 바탕으로 국내의 실질적인 철도역사 시설의 활용방안을 다각적으로 모색하고자 하며, 이중 한가지 유형으로서 철도역사 역형보육시설의 국내 적용 가능성을 검토 하고자 한다..

We use the survey results to analyse residents satisfaction level depending on three different public housing types such as public rental housing, sales after five years of initial lease and pre-sales apartments. Our findings can not only be used to improve the quality of housing service for low- and moderate income households but also to rationalize current government public housing project, that is, “Bogeumjari housing” and to optimize public budgetary expenses. Firstly, the residents of public rental housing prefer to have more community oriented facility due to eligibility standards such as age and limitations on car ownership. Secondly, pre-sales apartments residents, mostly owners, prefer to have better appearance which is essential to resale price and their satisfaction levels were relatively low. That is because they tend to compare their apartment with private dwellings once having lived in. Lastly, differing from our common sense, the residents living in sales after five years of initial lease apartments seem to behave more like those people in rental housing.

Background: Metabolic disorders, including type II diabetes and obesity, present major health risks in industrialized countries. AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) has become the focus of a great deal of attention as a novel therapeutic target for the treatment of metabolic syndromes. In this study, we evaluated whether dietary aloe could reduce obesity-induced inflammation and adipogenesis. Methods: Male C57BL/6 obese mice fed a high-fat diet for 54 days received a supplement of aloe formula (PAG, ALS, Aloe QDM, and Aloe QDM complex) or pioglitazone (PGZ) and were compared with unsupplemented controls (high-fat diet; HFD) or mice fed a regular diet (RD). RT-PCR and western blot analysis were used to quantify the expression of obesity-induced inflammation. Results: Aloe QDM complex downregulated fat size through suppressed expression of scavenger receptors on adipose tissue macrophages (ATMs) compared with HFD. Both white adipose tissue (WATs) and muscle exhibited increased AMPK activation through aloe supplementation, and in particular, the Aloe QDM complex. Obesity-induced inflammatory cytokines (IL-$1{\beta}$ and -6) and $HIF1{\alpha}$ mRNA and protein were decreased markedly, as was macrophage infiltration by the Aloe QDM complex. Further, the Aloe QDM complex decreased the translocation of NF-${\kappa}B$ p65 from the cytosol in the WAT. Conclusion: Dietary aloe formula reduced obesity-induced inflammatory responses by activation of AMPK in muscle and suppression of proinflammatory cytokines in the WAT. Additionally, the expression of scavenger receptors in the ATM and activation of AMPK in WAT led to reduction in the percent of body fat. Thus, we suggest that the effect of the Aloe QDM complex in the WAT and muscle are related to activation of AMPK and its use as a nutritional intervention against T2D and obesity-related inflammation.
Fabrication of shape-controlled Au nanoparticle arrays for SERS substrates

Surface enhanced Raman Scattering (SERS) has attracted attention because the technique enables detection of various chemicals, even down to single molecular scale. Among the diverse candidates for SERS substrates, Au nanoparticles are considered promising due to their fine optical properties, chemical stability and ease of surface modification. Therefore, the fabrication and optical characterization of gold particles on solid supports is highly desirable. Such structures have potential as SERS substrates because the localized surface plasmon resonance of gold nanoparticles is very sensitive to combined molecules and environments. In addition, it is well-known that the properties of Au nanoparticles are strongly dependent on their shape. In this work, arrays of shape-controlled Au nanoparticles were fabricated to exploit their enhanced and reproducible optical properties. First, shape-controlled Au nanoparticles were prepared via seed mediated solution-phase synthesis, including spheres, octahedra, and rhombic dodecahedra. Then, these shape-controlled Au nanoparticles were arranged on a PDMS substrate, which was nanopatterned using soft lithography of poly styrene particles. The Au nanoparticles were selectively located in a pattern of hexagonal spheres. In addition, the shape-controlled Au nanoparticles were arranged in various sizes of PDMS nanopatterns, which can be easily controlled by manipulating the size of polystyrene particles. Finally, the optical properties of the fabricated Au nanoparticle arrays were characterized by measuring surface enhanced Raman spectra with 4-nitrobenezenethiol.
