Human mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have been used in cell-based therapy to promote revascularization after peripheral or myocardial ischemia. High levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) are involved in the senescence and apoptosis of MSCs, causing defective neovascularization. Here, we examined the effect of the natural antioxidant lycopene on oxidative stress-induced apoptosis in MSCs. Although H2O2 (200 mM) increased intracellular ROS levels in human MSCs, lycopene (10 μmM) pretreatment suppressed H2O2-induced ROS generation and increased survival. H2O2-induced ROS increased the levels of phosphorylated p38 mitogen activated protein kinase (MAPK), Jun-N-terminal kinase (JNK), ataxia telangiectasia mutated (ATM), and p53, which were inhibited by lycopene pretreatment. Furthermore, lycopene pretreatment decreased the expression of cleaved poly (ADP ribose) polymerase-1 (PARP-1) and caspase-3 and increased the expression of B-cell lymphoma 2 (Bcl-2) and Bcl-2-associated X protein (Bax), which were induced by H2O2 treatment. Moreover, lycopene significantly increased manganese superoxide dismutase (MnSOD) expression and decreased cellular ROS levels via the PI3K-Akt pathway. Our findings show that lycopene pretreatment prevents ischemic injury by suppressing apoptosis-associated signal pathway and enhancing anti-oxidant protein, suggesting that lycopene could be developed as a beneficial broad-spectrum agent for the successful MSC transplantation in ischemic diseases.

S-344 : The Role of Skeletal Muscle Mass in Development of Metabolic Syndrome

Introduction: It has been well known that abdominal adiposity is related with insulin resistance and greater risk of metabolic disorder. Skeletal muscle plays central role in insulin mediated glucose disposal of whole body, but we only know a little about the association between skeletal muscle mass and MetS (MetS). The aim of this study is to clarify the clinical role of skeletal muscle mass in developing MetS through using skeletal muscle parameters by body impedance analysis (BIA). Methods: 1,042 healthy adults aged from 20 to 75 years who visited Yeungnam university health promotion center from Jun. 2008 to Jun. 2010 were enrolled. 204 subjects who had prior MetS or chronic disease that can affect to skeletal muscle mass were excluded. After 24 months from baseline, the metabolic parameters were assessed and the development of MetS was diagnosed using modified NCEP-ATP III criteria. From the BIA (Inbody 720), we obtained skeletal muscle mass (SMM, Kg), body fat mass (BFM, Kg), and visceral fat area (VFA, cm2). Then, we had defined as follows; percent of skeletal muscle mass (SMM%, %): SMM (kg)/weight (Kg), skeletal muscle index (SMI, Kg/m2): SMM (Kg)/height (m)2, skeletal muscle to body fat ratio (MFR): SMM (kg)/BFM (Kg) and skeletal muscle to visceral fat ratio (SVR, Kg/cm2): SMM (Kg)/VFA (cm2) Results: Mean follow up periods were 28.7±5.4 months. Among total 838 subjects (46.9±9.9 years, M:F=477:361), 88 (10.5%) were newly diagnosed MetS. 5th quintile of the SMM%, MFR and SVR was associated with decreased risk of development of MetS after adjusting for confounding factors. Conclusion: Decreased skeletal muscle mass may play critical role in development of the MetS and not absolute amount of skeletal muscle mass but relative ratio to body composition may be more important.

This paper deals with the multiple method for large capacity inverter system. To enlarge the capacity of inverter system and to reduce the current ripples on inverter output side, two or more inverters are operated in parallel. Up to now six step inverts and sinusoidal PWM inverts have been developed for the parallel operation of inverts. In this paper, the parallel operation using space vector PWM inverts is considered, By using space vector PWM, many adventages such as reduced current ripple and reduced ripple torque can be obtained. Moreover, the inverter output current ripples can be greatly reduced by shifting the switching state of the two of more inverters effectively. The experimental results verifies the effectiveness of the proposed method.
상간리액터가 없는 12펄스 병렬연결 듀얼 컨버터 시스템의 특성해석과 새로운 전류제어

본 논문에서는 상간리액터를 사용하지 않는 12펄스 병렬연결 듀얼 컨버터 시스템의 해석 및 새로운 전류제어 방법이 제안된다. 먼저 상간리액터가 없는 시스템의 특성을 해석하고 상간리액터를 사용하는 시스템의 특성과 비교한다. 그리고 이 시스템에 대한 새로운 전류제어 방법인 예측전류제어 방법을 소개한다. 제안된 시스템의 타당성과 전류제어 방법의 탁월함은 시뮬레이션 결과와 실험결과를 통해 입증된다.
DC 전동기 구동시스템을 위한 자기동조 속도제어기의 설계

This parer describes the design of self-tuning speed controller for DC motor drive system using RLS(Recursive Least Squares) algorithm and thole-P1acement method. The model parameters, related to inertia and damping coefficient of motor, are estimated on-line by using RLS estimation algorithm. And a control signal is calculated by using pole placement method. Simulation and experimental results show that the proposed controller possesses excellent adaptation capability than a conventional PI/IP controller under parameter change.

As factory automation is rapidly propelled, automatic manufacturing facility is developing widely. But the development of ATE(Automatic Test Equipment) is not reached than that of it. In this paper, we designed intermodule interface for measurment device for computer and CAT(Computer Aided Test) for automatic testing device of spectrum analyzer and implemented real time processing program for control of measurement device. OOP(Object Oriented programming) technique was used in control program to be interfaced with other measurement equipment easily. And we constructed of GUI(Graphical User Interface) method that can be used softwere for user.
직렬통신과 Visual Basic을 이용한 Home Automation System

In this paper, hardware and control program for home automation system are developed. 9051 microcontroller is used in the hardware part. Multiple communication algorithm among plants is most important in the control program. Also image transfer method using USB port of IBM PC is used in this system. The DLL program needed for image transer is programmed by C++ and the entire control program is programmed by Visual Basic. Hardware part of the system is composed of multiple drivers according to each plant and some drivers have 8051 microcontroller for multiple communication. Data flow among plants is displayed on monitor of PC and transferred by serial communication with PC.

In this paper, power supply for ozone generating system is explained. Output voltage and frequency are controlled by phase displacement control of single phase inverter using ATmega128. The values of desired output voltage and frequency can be set using keypad and can be displayed using LCD. Actually, power supply is designed and manufactured. Through the experiments, the performance of output voltage and frequency control is verified.
