Antioxidant and Antiatherogenic Activity of cis-Hinokiresinol from Trapa pseudoincisa

cis-Hinokiresinol, also known as (+)-nyasol, was isolated for the first time from an aquatic herbaceous plant, Trapa pseudoincisa NAKAI, via silica gel and octadecyl silica gel column chromatographies. The chemical structure was determined via analyses of the spectroscopic data, including NMR, MS and IR. cis-Hinokiresinol was also found to exhibit antioxidant and antiatherogenic activities. The $IC_{50}$ values for the scavenging activities of cis-hinokiresinol on ABTS cation and superoxide anion radicals were 45.6 and $40.5{\mu}M$, respectively. The $IC_{50}$ values for the inhibitory effects on $Lp-PLA_2$, hACAT1, hACAT2 and LDL-oxidation were 284.7, 280.6, 398.9 and $5.6{\mu}M$, respectively.

Three stigmastane-type sterols and one ergostane-type sterol were isolated from the ethyl acetate soluble fraction of the aerial parts of Artemisia princeps Pampanini (Sajuarissuk). From the results of physico-chemical data including NMR, MS and IR, the chemical structures of the compounds were determined as stigmasta-5,22-dien-3,β-ol (stigmasterol, 1),stigmast-5-en-3β-ol(β-sitosterol,2), 5β,8β-epidioxy-5β,8β-ergosta-6,22-dien-3β-ol(ergosterol peroxide, 3), and β-sitosterol 3-O-βD-glucopyranoside(daucosterol,4).
Quantitative Analysis of Coumarins from Angelica gigas Using <sup>1</sup>H-NMR

<sup>1</sup>H-Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectrometry was applied to the quantitative analysis of coumarins in the roots of Angelica gigas without any chromatographic purification. The experiment was performed by the analysis of each singlet germinal methyl, which was well separated in the range of 1.0-2.0 ppm in the <sup>1</sup>H-NMR spectrum. The quantity of the compounds was calculated by the ratio of the intensity of each compound to the known amount of internal standard (dimethyl terephthalate). These results were compared with the conventional gas chromatography (GC) method. The contents of decursin and decursinol angelate in A. gigas were determined 1.98±0.07, 1.13±0.08% in quantitative <sup>1</sup>H-NMR method and 2.06±0.24, 1.17±0.24% in GC method, respectively. The advantages of quantitative <sup>1</sup>H-NMR analysis are that can be analyzed to identify and quantify, and no reference compounds required for calibration curves. Besides, it allows rapid and simple quantification for coumarins with an analysis time for only 10 min without any preprocessing.

Design and Measurement of Low-Power and Low-Area EEPROM for UHF RFID Tag Chips

In this paper, a low-power and small-area asynchronous EEPROM of 1 kilo bits for passive UHF RFID tag chips is designed with 0.18 ㎛ flash EEPROM cells. As small-area solutions, command and address buffers are removed since EEPROM is newly designed asynchronously and data output buffer is also removed by using separate I/O. As a low-power solution, we can reduce write current by proposing VPPL select circuit which selects the voltage needed using an arbitrary node voltage either at program or at write mode. To supply stably high voltages VPP and VPPL used in the cell array from low voltage VDD, Dickson charge pump is designed with Schottky diodes instead of PN junction diodes. On that account, we can decrease the number of stages of the charge pump and reduce its total area. A test chip for asynchronous EEPROM of 1 kilo bits is fabricated using 0.18 ㎛ EEPROM process, and its layout area is 554.8×306.9 ㎛², around 11% smaller than its synchronous counterpart. Its power dissipation is 8.0 ㎼, 25.5 ㎼, and 28.4 ㎼ in the mode of read, erase, and program, respectively. And its minimum operating voltage is 1.4 volts.
