조선 후기 이상적 여성관의 변화 : 조선 후기 천주교의 영향을 중심으로

This article examines how the ideal image of the woman held by society during the late Joseon period changed after the introduction of Catholicism. The virtue of Yeol (烈), which means the wife serving the husband well, was emphasized for women in Joseon and the women who set an example for this were called Yeolnyeo (烈女). However, with the introduction of Catholicism in the 18th century, there was a change in attitude towards what the ideal image of the woman entails, including how women understood themselves. The ideal woman in Joseon was a wife who was passionately obedient to her husband. Men were ontologically essential for women. However, with the introduction of Catholicism, women started to understand their existence centered on God rather than men. In other words, it provided an opportunity for women to perceive themselves as equal persons not subordinate to men. Therefore, female believers were now able to carry out independent activities not for men but for God, maintain their virginity and practice martyrdom, irrespective of their particular situations of family and marriage. The new ideal image of the woman could be seen through Kang Wan-sook Colomba's activities, female believers maintaining their virginity, and Lee Soon-i's prison letter. However, this paper does not intend to argue that these figures resisted the Confucian view of women or that they represented all female believers but to explain how the new religious faith, particularly their faith in God, affected their behaviors and their notion of the ideal woman.
Optical coding of fusion genes using multicolor quantum dots for prostate cancer diagnosis

<P>Recent studies have found that prostate cancer expresses abnormal genetic markers including multiple types of <I>TMPRSS2–ERG</I> fusion genes. The expression level of different <I>TMPRSS2–ERG</I> fusion genes is correlated to pathologic variables of aggressive prostate cancer and disease progression. State-of-the-art methods for detection of <I>TMPRSS2–ERG</I> fusion genes include reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) with a detection limit of 1 fmol at urinary condition. RT-PCR is time consuming, costly, and inapplicable for multiplexing. Ability to identify multiple fusion genes in a single sample has become important for diagnostic and clinical purposes. There is a need for a sensitive diagnostic test to detect multiple <I>TMPRSS2–ERG</I> fusion genes for an early diagnosis and prognosis of prostate cancer. Here, we propose to develop an assay for prostate cancer diagnosis using oligonucleotide-functionalized quantum dot and magnetic microparticle for optical detection of rearranged <I>TMPRSS2–ERG</I> fusion genes at a low concentration in urine. We found that our assay was able to identify three different types of fusion gene with a wide detection range and detection limit of 1 fmol (almost the same level of the RT-PCR result reported). Here, we show detection of multiple <I>TMPRSS2–ERG</I> fusion genes using color-coded oligonucleotides in cell lysate and urine.</P>

<P>AAK-2 is one of two alpha isoforms of the AMP-activated protein kinase in Caenorhabditis elegans and is involved in life span maintenance, stress responses, and germ cell cycle arrest upon dauer entry. We found that AAK-2 was phosphorylated at threonine 243 in response to paraquat treatment and that this phosphorylation depends on PAR-4, the C. elegans LKB1 homologue. Both aak-2 mutation and par-4 knockdown increased the sensitivity of C. elegans worms to paraquat, and the double deficiency did not further increase sensitivity, indicating that aak-2 and par-4 act in a linear pathway. Both mutations also slowed body bending during locomotion and failed to reduce head oscillation in response to anterior touch. Consistent with this abnormal motility and behavioral response, expression of the AAK-2::green fluorescent protein fusion protein was observed in the ventral cord, some neurons, body wall muscle, pharynx, vulva, somatic gonad, and excretory cell. Our study suggests that AMPK can influence the behavior of C. elegans worms in addition to its well known function in metabolic control.</P>

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Two-dimensionally self-organized smectic liquid crystal (LC)-polymer composite has been reported to show a negative dispersion of birefringence [H. Lee and J.-H. Lee, Opt. Lett. 39, 5146 (2014)]. In this paper, we separately measured the extraordinary and ordinary refractive indices n<SUB>e</SUB> and n<SUB>o</SUB> of the pure LC and LC-polymer composite and simulated the dependence of the transmittance and the color on the viewing angle for the display application. The LC-polymer composite with the negative dispersion property showed a wider viewing angle and a smaller color shift compared to the pure liquid crystal with a positive dispersion of birefringence.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> The extraordinary and ordinary refractive indices n<SUB>e</SUB> and n<SUB>o</SUB> of the pure liquid crystal and liquid crystal-polymer composite were measured. </LI> <LI> The dependence of the transmittance and the color shift on the viewing angle were simulated. </LI> <LI> The liquid crystal-polymer composite with negative dispersion of birefringence showed wider viewing angle and smaller color shift. </LI> </UL> </P>
