서구명상학(Contemplative Studies)과 한국에서의 적용 가능성 연구

This Paper examines on Contemplative Studies (CS) in the West and Its adaptability in Korea. CS is an interdisciplinary field focusing on practices and experiences related to contemplation and meditation. There are various elements of western society in the background of CS, and the same phenomenon can be found contemporary Korea religious phenomenon. But there was a rare study about considerations on the environments about the western that can foster CS. This paper introduces sociocultural context, attributes, discourse on western CS and explores its adaptability in a particular Korean religious situation and studies. The emergence of CS lies on critical reflection of postmodernism, brisk studies on human consciousness in multiple fields and change of academy and the public about contemplation and meditation. Now these became a way of living in many westerns. CS shows some peculiar features from previous academic religious studies, which are ‘open to first-person critical study’, ‘interdisciplinary(including study and pedagogy)’, ‘focusing on context of religious tradition’. and the current criticism on CS has two parts, which are ‘subjectivity’ and ‘tradition centering’. Korea has multi-religiosity and the social perception of meditation changes from the Buddhist tradition to the therapeutic method for well-being along with western post secular society. So Korean CS can improve for grasping multi-layered religiosity in Korea and methodological development in religious studies and from the de-westernized critical reflection of Korea religious studies can contribute to CS.
인터넷 세대 청소년 주술 ‘글자스킬’의 믿음 구조와 실천 : 디지털 데이터 분석과 인지종교학적 논의를 중심으로

The "text-skill" is a contemporary magic spell that began in the late 2000s and has been believed and practiced by Korean female teenagers in cyberspace: by storing and displaying written text spells on mobile devices, practitioners believe this could help fulfill their wishes. This has been transmitted with diverse ritual manuals and religious experiences that were uploaded into cyberspace: on blogs, Twitter, and cyber communities. In this study, the cultural reality and belief structure of the text-skill are identified through digital data analysis. Posts related to the text-skill were automatically collected through Web crawling, and the time series distribution and religious symbols of text-skill such as words, effects, and ritual manuals were analyzed from this data. Based on this, the cultural reality of the text-skill, which aims to cope with the desires of modern Korean female teenagers, was identified. Also, characteristics of Text-Skill such as belief in blessings or curses and individualized beliefs were identified as a new form of contemporary Korean teenagers' religious faith. Furthermore, through a cognitive-religious analysis of the structure of the text-skills’ beliefs and practices, this study suggested that the cultural representation of the text-skill relies on the evolutionary-cognitive mind such as causal reasoning and hypersensitive actor detection devices. Therefore, using a new research methodology 'Data Science of Religion', this study presented the possibility of identifying cultural reality and cognitive universality of adolescents' cyberspace religion, as a new religious-cultural phenomenon in the contemporary Korean society, created and consumed by the Net-Generation.
한국 창가학회의 내·외부적 갈등의 역사적 이해 - 절복(折伏) 개념을 중심으로

The purpose of this paper is to explore the history of the conflicts faced by Soka Gakkai in Korea by focusing on missionary activities. Also, through an analysis of the changing meaning of jeolbok (折伏), the paper aims to ascertain how methods of propagation are influenced by context and changed in history. The early flow of Soka Gakkai's propagation to Korea differs from that in Japan. Early missions to Korea were mainly conducted by Japanese Koreans. Believers who embraced the magical faith of healing and blessing attempted to solve problems in their lives through Soka Gakkai's religious practices. Different from the case of Japan, however, there were no attempts to destroy such local communal practices. In addition, adherents were not interested in imperial praise or political activities, but due to the image of an ‘anti-ethnic organization’ created by the state and the media, even relatively open propagation of Soka Gakkai in Korea was difficult. Later, Soka Gakkai became separated from the Nichiren Shoshu (日蓮正宗) due to conflict, and Soka Gakkai's identity was newly established with the doctrine of “no distinction between master and disciple” (師弟不二). Soka Gakkai in Korea also followed this position. Soka Gakkai defined the Nichiren Shoshu as an object of aggressive jeolbok, i.e. a deviant tradition to be overcome, but in practice displayed an attitude of tolerance toward the spreading of all Buddhist virtues. With this attitude, the Soka Gakkai in Korea has been operating under the name 'Korea SGI' since 2000, gradually escaping the image of the “Japanese tainted religion” (倭色宗敎) and continuing to expand its social influence. However, it is striving to mitigate the negative conceptions of “political organization” and “pseudo-religion” that remain, and it is continuing its practice of spreading its virtues through peace, culture, and educational activities.
일제 치하 한국 기독교계 독립선언문에 나타나는 “민족” 개념 탐구

Japanese colonial rule, which began after the unification of Korea and Japan in 1910, destroyed the spiritual and systematic foundations that defined Korean identity and encompassed all dimensions of life. In this situation, Koreans needed new systematic and spiritual principles of social unity to rewrite their identity and bind them together, principles that would serve as the basis for resisting and transcending the absolutized state power of modern Japan. At the core of that principle was a newly imagined concept of nation. This paper examines the function of Korean Christianity in helping Koreans under Japanese rule to envision this new nation. In this regard, it compares the logical structure of the ideology of the emperor in modern Japan with the logical structure of the newly reimagined concept of nation in the early Korean Christian independence movement through the lens of Robert N. Bellah's concept of civil religion. According to this study, the concept of nation envisioned by Korean Christians in response to the national self-worship in modern imperial Japan is a nation that practices self-transcendent submission to transcendent moral ideals and ethical principles. This was a kind of prophetic civil religion that served to unify Koreans at the time.
