The objective of this study was to compare the anticancer activity of glucosinolates against four different cancer cells; SNU-251, SNU-354, SNU-C4, MCF-7 and to determine the amounts of glucosinolates in mustard leaves. Green and red mustard leaves were cultivated on the field of Rural Development Administration from May to July, 2010. After the leaves were harvest and lypophilized, the fine powder was extracted with boiling 70% methanol(v/v) for the measurement of anticancer activity and then applied to the cancer cells obtained from Korean Cell Line Bank(KCLB). The anticancer activity of red leaf mustard was higher than that of green mustard leaf, particularly in SNU-251 for 24 hr and in SNU-C4 for 48 hr. In both green and red mustard leaf, sinigrin was the most abundant glucosinolte and was determined as 4.71 and 3.06 ㎎/g dry wt., respectively, but glucoiberin only presented 0.14 ㎎/g dry wt. with minor amounts.

In a sodium-cooled fast reactor, which is a Generation-IV reactor, refueling is conducted by rotating, but not opening, the reactor head to prevent a reaction between the sodium, water and air. Therefore, an inspection technique that checks for the presence of any obstacles between the reactor core and the upper internal structure, which could disturb the rotation of the reactor head, is essential prior to the refueling of a sodium-cooled fast reactor. To this end, an ultrasound-based inspection technique should be employed because the opacity of the sodium prevents conventional optical inspection techniques from being applied to the monitoring of obstacles. In this study, a ranging inspection technique using a plate-type ultrasonic waveguide sensor was developed to monitor the presence of any obstacles between the reactor core and the upper internal structure in the opaque sodium. Because the waveguide sensor installs an ultrasonic transducer in a relatively cold region and transmits the ultrasonic waves into the hot radioactive liquid sodium through a long waveguide, it offers better reliability and is less susceptible to thermal or radiation damage. A 10 m horizontal beam waveguide sensor capable of radiating an ultrasonic wave horizontally was developed, and beam profile measurements and basic experiments were carried out to investigate the characteristics of the developed sensor. The beam width and propagation distance of the ultrasonic wave radiated from the sensor were assessed based on the experimental results. Finally, a feasibility test using cylindrical targets (corresponding to the shape of possible obstacles) was also conducted to evaluate the applicability of the developed ranging inspection technique to actual applications.
Primary squamous cell carcinoma of the endometrium; A case report

Primary squamous cell carcinoma of the endometrium is extremely rare and its pathogenesis is unclear. Exclusion of cervical squamous cell carcinoma, extended to endometrium and squamous differentiation of endometrioid carcinoma is necessary to make the diagnosis of primary squamous cell carcinoma of the endometrium. Case: A 51-year-old postmenopausal woman presented with heavy vaginal bleeding. The patient had normal Pap smear. Transvaginal ultrasonography revealed a 3.8 × 3.1 cm mass mimicking submucosal myoma in the uterine endometrial cavity. The frozen section of the mass obtained by hysteroscopy was reported as sarcoma. Subsequently, the patient underwent laparoscopic hysterectomy with BSO and bilateral pelvic lymph node dissection. There was no tumor involvement in dissected pelvic lymph nodes. Postoperative histology confirmed the presence of a poorly differentiated squamous cell carcinoma in the uterine body while the cervix was normal. The results of immunohistochemical stainings were diffusely positive for cytokeratin, and negative for vimentin. Based on the histomorphologic findings, the diagnosis was primary squamous cell carcinoma of the endometrium. The patient was treated with chemotherapy and is alive without recurrence and metastais 8 months after the operation. Conclusion: To make the diagnosis of primary squamous cell carcinoma excluding cervical squamous cell carcinoma, extended to endometrium and squamous differentiation of endometrioid carcinoma, it is important to carry out multiple sections, immunostainings, and mucin stainings.

Drug Rash with Eosinophilia and Systemic Symptoms (DRESS) syndrome reflects a serious hypersensitivity reaction to drugs, characterized by skin rash, fever, lymph node enlargement, and internal organ involvement. So far, numerous drugs such as sulfonamides, phenobarbital, sulfasalazine, carbamazepine, and phenytoin have been reported to cause the DRESS syndrome. We report a case in a 29-yr-old female patient who had been on celecoxib and anti-tuberculosis drugs for one month to treat knee joint pain and pulmonary tuberculosis. Our patient's clinical manifestations included fever, lymphadenopathy, rash, hypereosinophilia, and visceral involvement (hepatitis and pneumonitis). During the corticosteroid administration for DRESS syndrome, swallowing difficulty with profound muscle weakness had developed. Our patient was diagnosed as DRESS syndrome with eosinophilic polymyositis by a histopathologic study. After complete resolution of all symptoms, patch tests were positive for both celecoxib and ethambutol. Although further investigations might be needed to confirm the causality, celecoxib and ethambutol can be added to the list of drugs as having the possibility of DRESS syndrome.

Clinical characteristics of childhood epilepsy was obtained by direct interview or telephone Clinical characteristics of childhood epilepsy was like these : 1. 50% Patient had first seizure under the 5years old, 28% from to 10years old, and 13% over the 11years old. 2. Blood typing study showed 32% at the A-typing, 33% at the B-typing, 20% at the O-typing, and 14% at the AB-typing. 3. 28% Showed high social intro-version(Si) and 47% showed lower Si and 25% nonspecific. 4. 13% Patients showed seizure family history and 87% showed no. 5. The methods of controlling seizure were different : 30% by traditional acupuncture. 27% by herb doctor, 16% by hospital, another 16% by traditional acupuncture with herb doctor, and 11% by others. 6. The religion acticites of epileptic Patient showed that there were 36% at Buddisn, 10% Cathalic, 8% at the Christian and 45% had no any religion.

Iron deficiency is the state in which the content of iron in the body is less than normal. It is characterized by decrease of absent iron stores, low serum iron concentration, low transferrin saturation, and low hemoglobin concentration or hematocrit value. Iron deficiency anemia is a more advanced state of iron deficiency than is iron depletion. Iron deficiency may occur as a result of inadequate dietary iron intake, malabsortion of iron, chronic blood loss, diversion of iron to fetal and infant erythropoiesis during pregnancy and lactation, intravascular hemolysis with hemoglobinuria, several infestation of ancylostomiasis, or a combination of these factors.

It was reported that the main cause of intraepithelial neoplasm and squamous cell carcinoma of the uterine cervix is human papilloma virus infection, and that the expression of p16 is increased in cells infected by human papilloma virus. We performed an immunocytochemical staining for protein p16 in 17 cases of cervocovaginal smears initially diagnosed as atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance, to know whether the staining could help the differentiation of neoplastic cells from reactive atypical cells. Of 17 smears, 6 were diagnosed finally as high grade intraepithelial neoplasm or invasive squamous cell carcinoma by follow-up biopsy and smear, and 5 of the 6 were positive for p16. Three were diagnosed as koilocytosis, and one of them was weakly positive for p16. Eight were diagnosed as reactive atypical cells, and all of them were negative for p16. We thought that immunocytochemical staining of p16 in cervocovaginal smears could help the differentiation of neoplastic cells from reactive atypical cells.
