In this study, an angular interrogation technique has been used for modeling a highly sensitive surface plasmon resonance (SPR)based biosensor. The large surface area of the heterostructure of the blue phosphorene (BP/MoS 2 ) layer facilitates the biomolecules absorption. A four-layer Kretschmann model of the SPR biosensor containing the BP/MoS 2 heterostructure with a gold layer is proposed. Compared to the traditional gold fi lmbased SPR biosensors, the sensitivity of the proposed SPR biosensor has been signifi cantly improved. An enhanced sensitivity 224.57°/RIU has been achieved by optimizing the proposed structure with 50 nm thick gold layer and a monolayer of heterostructure BP/MoS 2 with a thickness of 0.75 nm. Moreover, the proposed BP/MoS 2 heterostructure off ers extremely small FWHM, high detection accuracy, and highquality factor parameters. The highest sensitivity of 252°/RIU was found with two-layers of BP/MoS 2 heterostructure confi guration. It is observed that, compared to previously reported sensitivity, the proposed SPR biosensor shows better results.

Graphene oxide has been utilized effectively for the adsorption of heavy metals. Incorporation of graphene oxide with magnetite nanoparticles through co-precipitation enhances separation of a newly designed magnetite graphene oxide by a magnetic field. Considering the instability of magnetite graphene oxide under different water chemistry conditions, we designed encapsulated magnetite graphene oxide inside a non-toxic alginate bead as a high-performance green chemical for the uptake of Cr(VI) and As(V) in water treatment applications (mGO/bead). The alginate, itself revealed low contribution for metal ions uptake, however this could potentially inhibit the aggregation of magnetite graphene oxide powder showing enhanced performance to extract metals from water. Material capacity minimally altered over a range of pH values for As(V), while Cr(VI) uptake varied with pH changes, which were explained by a local pH-controlled mechanism. Induced hydrolysis was facilitated by the release of Fe<SUP>3+</SUP> from Fe<SUP>3+</SUP>-crosslinked mGO/beads, thus enhancing the removal of Cr(VI). For a complex mixture of heavy metals, influence of the presence of co-occurring ions in a mixed contaminant system (Cr(VI), As(V), Cu(II), Cd(II)) revealed an excellent performance (~80-100% removal) by the composite material. The mGO/bead maintained its activity in wastewater and exhibited greater adsorption efficiency for both Cr(VI) and As(V) compared with activated carbon and carbon nanotube. The mGO/beads could be collected and reused for at least 5 cycles without the leaching of core mineral contents. The results indicate the advantages of mGO/beads over the popular adsorbents that can be developed as a versatile material for water treatment.
A proposed organic Schottky barrier photodetector for application in the visible region

The fabrication and characterization of an organic photodetector (OPD) in the form of ITO coated glass/polycarbazole (PCz)/Al Schottky contact is reported. The device has been fabricated in our laboratory for the first time using the polymer synthesized by us. The device has been subsequently characterized in respect of electrical and optical properties in order to explore its potential for possible use as a detector in the visible region at 650 nm. It is observed that the detector exhibits a reasonably high value of peak detectivity (~6 × 106 cm Hz1/2W-1) near zero bias voltage at V = 0.2 V.
IMPACT OF POPULARITY AND PEER PRESSURE ON ATTITUDES TOWARD LUXURY AMONG TEENS

Peer pressure and popularity have always been important issues for teenagers, potentially impacting on teenagers’ attitudes towards luxury, social consumption motivation and their self-concept clarity (how clearly teens view themselves). We empirically investigate these relationships using data from a sample of Brazilian teens and find that self-concept clarity has a significant effect on peer pressure, popularity and social consumption motivation, which itself directly impacts attitudes towards luxury items. The total sample consisted of 558 teenagers between the ages of 12 and 19 (grades 7 through 12). Hypotheses were tested using structural equation modeling.

This paper aims to evaluate the web crippling capacities of cold-formed Z-sections under two-flange load cases defined in the AISI Specification. The design specification provides an empirical equation to determine the web crippling strength. However, the results from this equation for different loading and support conditions are not consistent as it predicts unconservative for certain cases and over-conservative for some other cases. In this study, web crippling capacities of Z-sections are determined using validated finite element models and compared with the AISI Specification. The comparison showed that the empirical equation predicts adequate strength for fastened support conditions and conservative strength for unfastened support conditions under End-Two-Flange (ETF) load case. For the Interior-Two-Flange (ITF) load case, the empirical equation predicts unconservative strength for fastened support conditions and over-conservative strength for unfastened support conditions. Therefore, a detailed numerical study is carried out to recommend new web crippling coefficients using a parametric study under both loading cases for fastened and unfastened support conditions. The parametric study is based on 540 finite element models. Based on the results of this study new web crippling design equations are proposed for both load cases and support conditions using the direct strength method.
Optical Analysis of Zinc Oxide Quantum Dots with Bovine Serum Albumin and Bovine Hemoglobin

Quantum dots (QDs) are widely used in medical, industrial, and household applications owing to their excellent biological property. For its wide medical application, the biocompatibility of QDs is an important aspect of research. The aim of the present study was to synthesize zinc oxide quantum dots (ZnO-QDs) and to investigate the interaction with bovine serum albumin (BSA) and bovine hemoglobin (BHb) using fluorescence quenching method and circular dichroism (CD). The study suggests that the electrostatic force of attraction favors the adsorption of BSA onto ZnO-QDs. The fluorescence quenching of BSA and BHb using QD indicates the formation of QDs-BSA complexes. The CD spectra also showed the changes in secondary structure of proteins by interacting with QDs.

The present paper reports on the phenomenon of pinkish-red discoloration of the nearshore water of Puri, Odisha on 12th May 2016. Many local newspapers covered this event, as Puri city is a major tourist and pilgrimage place on the east coast of India. Field observations were carried out in order to provide a scientific basis to the event and to elicit possible causes of this discoloration. Taxonomic analysis of the phytoplankton samples revealed the dominance of red colored dinoflagellate species Gonyaulax polygramma, contributing 90% to total phytoplankton population. The localized concentration of G. polygramma was responsible for the pinkish-red discoloration of nearshore water. The exact factor that lay behind the genesis of this bloom could not be delineated due to the short period of its persistence. But two factors - upwelling and anthropogenic nutrient influx - can be viewed as the main cause for this ephemeral bloom. Non-hypoxic conditions in the coastal water following the ephemeral bloom event indicated no significant risk of ecological deterioration to the ambient medium.

This article is aimed to extend a simple protocol for preparation of various plant leaves extract and their application to green synthesis of the metallic nanoparticles. Five plant leaves extract showed mild reduction and stabilization ability for silver and gold nanoparticles (AgNPs and AuNPs) at room temperature. The particle size range varied from 25 to 42nm and 21 to 47nm for AgNPs and AuNPs, respectively. Plant leaves extract-mediated nanoparticles were characterized to confirm the shape, size, crystallinity, and content using different spectroscopic investigations. Differences in stability of nanoparticles at different pH were also measured by zeta potential.
“Does Emotional Intelligence Impact Technology Adoption?” : A study on Adoption of Augmented Reality

The study makes several contributions to not only the adoption literature by examining the influence of Emotional Intelligence (EI) and Big-Five traits on adoption of Augmented Reality (AR) but also given its utility in both industry and research, it contributes to the interesting inter-disciplinary domain of psychology, information systems, and human behaviour. A quantitative based approach using a sample of 275 respondents was undertaken. It is found that emotional intelligence influence both perceived ease-of-use and perceived usefulness. They in turn influence intention to use. Another important observation is that personality traits (openness and agreeableness) have a significant moderating effect on the relation between attitude and intention to use AR. This research will help academicians and executives working on the adoption of AR in various sectors ranging from retail industry to the education sector. The originality of this study is that it explores the impact of EI on the acceptance of AR and helps in extending the literature in interdisciplinary research.
