        Effects of Different Medium Composition and Exogenous Hormones on Browning of Tree Peony (Paeonia suffruticosa Andr.) Callus in Tissue Cultu

        Browning is one of the key factors that influenced the callus subculture of tree peony (Paeonia suffruticosa Andr.). Effects of medium composition and exogenous hormones: macro elements of Murashige and Skoog (MS salts) and iron salt (Fe2+), pH, agar and 6-benzylaminopurine (6-BA), 1-naphthaleneacetic acid (NAA) and kinetin (KT) on the callus browning of P. suffruticosa ‘Shan Hu Tai’ in vitro were studied in this paper. Results showed that the browning of P. suffruticosa callus were more sensitive to KT than 6-BA in different concentrations of 6-BA and KT separately with different concentrations of NAA, and reduced to the lowest (13.3%) under 0.5 mg·L-1 NAA plus 0.3 mg·L-1 KT. 1/4 × MS plus 1/4 × Fe2+ was the best basic medium in which the browning rate was only 18.2%. The browning rate of the callus was the lowest of 4.0% under pH 6.5 and the callus grew better in 7.0 g·L-1 agar than others. This study indicated that the best medium preventing P. suffruticosa callus in vitro from browning was: 1/4 × MS medium supplemented with 6.95 mg·L-1Fe2+, 0.3 mg·L-1 KT, 0.5 mg·L-1 NAA, 6.0 g·L-1 agar and 30 g·L-1 sucrose in pH 6.5.

        BMB Reports : Kaiso represses the expression of glucocorticoid receptor via a methylation-dependent mechanism and attenuates the anti-apoptotic activity of glucocorticoids in breast cancer cells

        Kaiso is a Pox Virus and Zinc Finger (POZ-ZF) transcription factor with bi-modal DNA-binding specificity. Here, we demonstrated that Kaiso expression is inversely correlated with glucocorticoid receptor (GR) expression in breast carcinomas. Knockdown of Kaiso increased GR expression, while overexpression of Kaiso inhibited GR expression in breast cancer cells. Furthermore, Kaiso repressed GR proximal promoter-reporter activity in a dose-dependent manner. Remarkably, ChIP experiments demonstrated that endogenous Kaiso was associated with the GR promoter sequence in a methylation-dependent manner. Since glucocorticoids inhibit chemotherapyinduced apoptosis and have been widely used as a co-treatment of patients with breast cancer, we assessed the role of Kasio in GR-mediated anti-apoptotic effects. We found that overexpression of Kaiso attenuated the anti-apoptotic effects of glucocorticoids in breast cancer cells. Our findings suggest that GR is a putative target gene of Kaiso and suggest Kaiso to be a potential therapeutic target in GC-combination chemotherapy in breast cancer.         The potential molecular effects of bursal septpeptide II on immune induction and antitumor activity

        The bursa of Fabricius (BF) is the acknowledged central humoral immune organ in birds. Bursal septpeptide II (BSP-II) is animmunomodulatory bioactive peptide isolated from BF. To understand the effects of BSP-II on immune induction, gene expression profilesof hybridoma cells treated with BSP-II were evaluated. Pathway analysis showed that regulated genes were involved in cytokine-cytokinereceptor interactions, T cell receptor signaling pathway, and pathway in cancer. It was observed that BSP-II reduced tumor cells proliferationand stimulated p53 expression. These results indicate potential mechanisms underlying the effects of the humoral immune system on immuneinduction, including antitumor activities. Our study has provided a novel insight into immunotherapeutic strategies for treating human tumors.

        Analysis of University Students’ Creativity According toUniversity Level and Gender: Focusing on Business School

        Chinese and Korean economy has combined with each other closely. Economic integration will certainly bring more changes. Analysis of the differences between students' creativity in China and Korea can help two countries to understand each other. This paper presents positive implications for the development of enterprises in both countries and facilitate the friendship of China and Korea.This paper conducts an analysis on the creativity of business school students in China and Korea based on university level and gender. Comparative study with university students ranking among the top 30% and the bottom 30% in China and Korea respectively is performed. ANOVA results show that there are differences among Chinese and Korean students at high and low levels of universities. Also, there are differences among Chinese and Korean male and female students. We find reasons for creativity differences in both countries according to university level and gender.

        Absence and Presence: Yeats’s Poetry about the Beloved’s Aging

        예이츠의 늙어가는 애인에 대한 시는 다양한 반응을 보인다. 애인의 늙 어감은 낭만적 환상으로 시작하여, 낭만적 표현을 위한 존재로, 시인이 피하고 부정하 는 감상적 실재로, 언어로 채울 준비가 안된 부재로, 그리고 마침내 살피고, 명상하고, 창조하는 기회가 된다. 늙음은 이제 시의 영감을 위한 생과 사의 문제가 아니라, 시인 이 인정하고, 사색하고, 마침내 변화시키는 엄연한 사실이 된다. 연인에 대한 보다 나 은 앎과 보다 나은 관계와 자신에 대한 이해뿐 아니라 철학적 사색, 사회적 비판, 시적 상상력을 위한 음식이 된다. 애인의 나이듦으로 초래되는 부재는 강한 존재가 된다. 이 를 통해서 사랑에 의존하는 꿈꾸는 시인에서 자신과 자신의 예술의 주인이 된다. Yeats’s poetry about the beloved’s aging manifests a great diversity of response. The beloved’s aging begins as a romantic fantasy, a presence created by the poet for poetic expression, turns into a sentimental reality he tries to evade and to deny, an absence he is not ready to fill with language, and finally becomes an occasion of examination, contemplation, and creation. Aging of the beloved is no longer the life and death for poetic inspiration, but a hard fact the poet accepts, examines, ruminates and finally transforms. It is not only transformed into better knowledge of his beloved, better understanding of their relationship, of himself, but also transformed into food for philosophical contemplation, social critique and finally, poetic imagination. The absence that is caused by the aging of the beloved is turned into a strong presence. With these poetic responses to the aging love, the poet, once a dreamer dependent on love, grows to be a master of himself and of his art.

        Fatigue properties of the pantograph–insulator system of metro trains: Experiments and the design for improvement

        The power of a metro vehicle is supplied by the pantograph on the vehicle roof. During pantograph lifting, the insulator set of the pantograph is prone to fracture caused by the impact load. In this work, a Single-arm pantograph–insulator system (SPIS) of metro vehicles was studied for the fatigue fracture of the insulator set induced by impact load. The basic structure of the SPIS was first introduced. The dynamic axial force test and fatigue and fracture damage experiments was then conducted on SPIS for both simulation experiment platform and real vehicles to analyze the causes of the insulator fracture. A method to improve the design structure of the back-end insulator set was proposed to resolve the problems of both the impact failure of the insulator steel core and the stress concentration on the interface between a steel core and an epoxy resin. The finite element analysis results indicated that the improved insulator set shows a much smaller stress concentration. Therefore, the improved insulator set has a greatly reduced fatigue damage subjected to shear effect, which validated the feasibility of the improved structure design.

        Optimization and simulation of the operational motion of a pantograph: Uplift and retraction

        A single-arm pantograph of metro train was studied in this work. The mathematical model of a single-arm pantograph was first established and an optimal design method to obtain the geometric parameters of the pantograph was proposed. The 3D model for the pantograph was then built and the simulation was performed by using virtual prototyping technology to ensure superior performance of the optimized pantograph. The fatigue test of pantograph-insulator system was performed under two operating conditions: Electric pantograph lifting and real train operation. Fatigue test results validated the stability of the optimized pantograph system.

      • Colorimetric and Fluorometric Assays Based on Conjugated Polydiacetylene Supramolecules for Screening Acetylcholinesterase and Its Inhibitors

        <P>Polydiacetylene supramolecules (PDAs) are unique sensing materials. Upon environmental stimulation, blue PDAs can undergo a colorimetric transition from blue to red accompanied by fluorescence enhancement. In this paper, we report a new PDA system polymerized from a mixed liposome comprising 2-(2-(2-hydroxyethoxy)ethoxy)ethyl pentacosa-10,12-diynoate and pentacosa-10,12-diynoic acid at a 3:7 ratio. The PDA system provided new colorimetric and fluorometric assay methods for screening acetylcholinesterase and its inhibitors through three processes. First, myristoylcholine reacted with PDAs, which then underwent colorimetric and fluorometric transition. Second, acetylcholinesterase catalyzed the hydrolysis of myristoylcholine into tetradecanoic acid, which reduced the myristoylcholine concentration and led to faded color and fluorescence.         Disturbance Observer-based Nonsingular Fast Terminal Sliding Mode Fault Tolerant Control of a Quadrotor UAV with External Disturbances and Actuator Faults

        This paper addresses a nonsingular fast terminal sliding mode fault tolerant control (NFTSMFTC) scheme based on disturbance observer (DO) for a quadrotor UAV in the presence of external disturbances and actuator additive faults. Firstly, by analyzing the dynamic characteristics of a quadrotor UAV, the model is decoupled into outer-loop (position subsystem) and inner-loop (attitude subsystem). Secondly, the DO is utilized to deal with external disturbances and actuator additive faults effectively. Furthermore, nonsingular fast terminal sliding mode control (NFTSMC) can avoid the chattering problems of traditional sliding mode control (SMC) and singularity problems of terminal SMC. Moreover, compared with nonsingular terminal SMC, it behaves the faster convergence rate. So the NFTSMC method is applied to design controller. Finally, in the framework of Lyapunov theory, the stability of the closed-loop system is analyzed, and the tracking error is asymptotically stable. The effectiveness of the proposed control scheme is verified by simulation results.

        Confinement and Rebellion: Yeats’s Poetry of Aging in the Middle Period

        Complicated by his love for a young girl, Yeats’s poetry of aging in the middle period comprises subtle responses. The poet yearns for the world of passion and youth, which is the release from the confinement of old age, but he is also widely aware of the limitations built both by old age and conventional opinions towards old age. The two contending voices are equally strong, and they form great tension in the poems which later develops into open contention and struggle in Yeats’s late poetry of aging.
