Epidermolysis bullosa (EB) is a very rare inherited disease featured with skin blistering resulting from minor trauma. Sometimes the esophageal mucosa could also be involved, which leads to esophageal strictures. Here we report two cases of EB-related esophageal strictures who were successfully treated with esophageal balloon dilations. The two cases with EB had severe dysphagia. Clinical examination showed signs of malnutrition, skin blisters and loss of toenails due to EB. They underwent careful fluoroscopic balloon dilation with 10- and 16-mm-sized balloon catheters, respectively. They could ingest soft and some solid foods after the procedure and maintained during the 20 months and 16 months follow-up periods.

Background: The physiologic characteristics of the cashmere trait and many of the differentially expressed genes relevant to hair cycling have been extensively studied, whereas genes involved in the prenatal development of hair follicles have been poorly investigated in cashmere goats. The aim of this study, therefore, was to quantify the time-course changes in the expressions of $TR{\alpha}$ and CRABPII genes in the fetal skin of Chinese cashmere goats at the multiple embryonic days (E70, E75, E80, E90, E100, E120 and E130) using real-time quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR). Results: RT-qPCR showed that $TR{\alpha}$ was expressed at E70 with relatively high level and then slightly decreased (E75, E80, and E90). The highest expression of $TR{\alpha}$ mRNA was revealed at E130 (P > 0.05). The expression pattern of CRABPII mRNA showed an 'up-down-up' trend, which revealed a significantly highest expression at E75 (P < 0.05) and was down-regulated during E80 to E120 (P < 0.05) and mildly increased at E130, subsequently. Conclusion: This study demonstrated that $TR{\alpha}$ and CRABPII genes expressed in different levels during prenatal development of cashmere. The present study will be helpful to provide the comprehensive understanding of $TR{\alpha}$ and CRABPII genes expressions during cashmere formation and lay the ground for further studies on their roles in regulation of cashmere growth in goats.

A fi lled thin-walled tube is an excellent energy absorption device, and its performance is closely related to the fi lled core material. In this paper, a porous metal-high performance concrete interpenetrating phase composites (PMCIPC) fi lling core material is proposed, which takes porous nickel as the matrix and high-performance concrete as the reinforcing element, trying to improve the energy absorption of thin-walled tube. Axial quasi-static compression tests were carried out on empty tube, PMCIPC and fi lled tube. Based on the experimental results, the eff ects of wall thickness and aspect ratio on the deformation and energy absorption performance of the fi lled tube were studied by numerical simulation. The results show that the larger wall thickness increases the energy absorption of the empty tube and the fi lled tube. The PMCIPC fi lling further improves the energy absorption capacity, and for the empty tubes with smaller wall thickness, the PMCIPC signifi cantly increases the crushing force effi ciency. When the aspect ratio (L/D) is 3.7, the deformation mode of the fi lled tube is Euler instability, and the performance begins to decrease sharply. Finally, a theoretical model is established to predict the mean crushing force of the fi lled tubes. The model results are in good agreement with the experimental results. This study provides eff ective guidance for the design of thin-walled structures with high energy absorption effi ciency.

The objective of this study was to investigate whether intraperitoneal incubation improves the regenerative capacity of bladder acellular matrix grafts (BAMGs) in a rat model of bladder augmentation. After 2 weeks of incubation in the peritoneum of male rats, BAMG flaps with vascular pedicles were harvested for autologous bladder augmentation. As the control, BAMGs were directly used for bladder augmentation without intraperitoneal incubation. Histological analyses of the incubated BAMGs demonstrated extensive cell growth and vasculature in homogeneous collagen bundles. The cells were positive for vimentin and negative for α-smooth muscle actin and pan-cytokeratin AE1/AE3. Cystography revealed smoother contours of the augmented bladders in the incubated group at 4 and 12 weeks postoperatively. However, the bladder capacity was not significantly different between the two groups. In both groups, the entire urothelium regenerated well without obvious differences. At both time points, compared with the control group, increased numbers of smooth muscle cells (SMCs) and blood vessels were found in the incubated group. At 12 weeks, the SMCs in the incubated group were more similar to those in the native smooth muscle fiber bundles of the bladder. Taken together, our results demonstrated that BAMGs preincubated in the peritoneum promote the regeneration of bladder smooth muscle via neovascularization in a rat bladder augmentation model.

Objective: Bipolar disorder (BD) is often misdiagnosed as unipolar depression (UD), leading to mistreatment and poor clinical outcomes. However, little is known about the similarities and differences in subcorticalgray matter regions between BD and UD. Methods: Thirty-five BD patients, 30 UD patients and 40 healthy controls underwent diffusional kurtosis imaging (DKI) and three dimensional arterial spin labeling (3D ASL). The parameters including mean kurtosis (MK), axial kurtosis (Ka), radial kurtosis (Kr), fractional anisotropy (FA), mean diffusivity (MD), axial diffusivity (Da), radial diffusivity (Dr) and cerebral blood flow (CBF) were measured by using regions-of-interest analysis in the caudate, putamen and thalamus of the subcortical gray matter regions. Results: UD exhibited differences from controls for DKI measures and CBF in the left putamen and caudate. BD showed differences from controls for DKI measures in the left caudate. Additionally, BD showed lower Ka in right putamen, higher MD in right caudate compared with UD. Receiver operating characteristic analysis revealed the Kr of left caudate had the highest predictive power for distinguishing UD from controls. Conclusion: The two disorders may have overlaps in microstructural abnormality in basal ganglia. The change of caudate may serve as a potential biomarker for UD.
