        Histone demethylase KDM4A plays an oncogenic role in nasopharyngeal carcinoma by promoting cell migration and invasion

        Compelling evidence has indicated the vital role of lysine-specific demethylase 4 A (KDM4A), hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF1α) and the mechanistic target of rapamycin (mTOR) signaling pathway in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). Therefore, we aimed to investigate whether KDM4A affects NPC progression by regulating the HIF1α/DDIT4/mTOR signaling pathway. First, NPC and adjacent tissue samples were collected, and KDM4A protein expression was examined by immunohistochemistry. Then, the interactions among KDM4A, HIF1α and DDIT4 were assessed. Gain- and loss-of-function approaches were used to alter KDM4A, HIF1α and DDIT4 expression in NPC cells. The mechanism of KDM4A in NPC was evaluated both in vivo and in vitro via RT-qPCR, Western blot analysis, MTT assay, Transwell assay, flow cytometry and tumor formation experiments. KDM4A, HIF1α, and DDIT4 were highly expressed in NPC tissues and cells. Mechanistically, KDM4A inhibited the enrichment of histone H3 lysine 9 trimethylation (H3K9me3) in the HIF1α promoter region and thus inhibited the methylation of HIF1α to promote HIF1α expression, thus upregulating DDIT4 and activating the mTOR signaling pathway. Overexpression of KDM4A, HIF1α, or DDIT4 or activation of the mTOR signaling pathway promoted SUNE1 cell proliferation, migration, and invasion but inhibited apoptosis. KDM4A silencing blocked the mTOR signaling pathway by inhibiting the HIF1α/DDIT4 axis to inhibit the growth of SUNE1 cells in vivo. Collectively, KDM4A silencing could inhibit NPC progression by blocking the activation of the HIF1α/DDIT4/mTOR signaling pathway by increasing H3K9me3, highlighting a promising therapeutic target for NPC.

        A Study on Origin of Civilization on the Korean Peninsula Abstract: On the basis of absorbing and learning from the research results on the origin of civilization, this study analyzes the origin of prehistoric human beings on the Korean Peninsula, their life trajectory, the cultural connotation and types of the civilization, and also discusses the origin of the civilization on the peninsula in comparison with Chinese prehistoric culture. Although theories on the origin of civilization on the Korean peninsula vary from each other in many aspects, it is undeniable that primitive humans existed on the peninsula at the dawn of human civilization and created multiple cultures. In addition, they increasingly became prosperous owing to the communication and integration with other cultures such as Dongyi. Through the iconic artifacts of each stage, a basic overview of the prehistoric civilization on the Korean Peninsula can be learned.

        Serum calcium is a novel parameter to assess metabolic syndrome in endometrial carcinoma

        Objectives: To investigate the distribution of serum calcium and the relationship between serum calcium and serum metabolic parameters in endometrial carcinoma (EC) patients. Methods: Retrospective assessment of patients diagnosed with endometrial cancer from Peking University People's Hospital from 2004 to 2009. Clinical characteristics as well as pretreatment serum calcium, albumin, fasting plasma glucose (FPG), serum triglycerides (TG), high-density lipoprotein (HDL), low-density lipoprotein (LDL), and total cholesterol (TC) value were extracted from patient records. Serum calcium was corrected for albumin. Unpaired t test and analysis of covariance were used to compare serum calcium among categorical variables. Simple correlation analyses and partial correlation analyses were used to assess the associations between serum calcium and continuous variables. Results: Two-hundred twenty patients were included in this study. After adjusting for confounders, postmenopausal patients had higher total serum calcium (p=0.002) and albumin-corrected serum calcium (p=0.012) than premenopausal patients, endometrioid endometrial carcinoma (EEC) patients had higher total serum calcium than nonendometrioid endometrial carcinoma (NEEC) patients (p=0.037). Significant positive correlations were found between total serum calcium and FPG (p=0.017), TG (p=0.043), HDL (p=0.042), LDL (p<0.001), and TC (p<0.001) after adjusting for multiple variables, and the corrected serum calcium showed no significant correlation with metabolic parameters. Conclusion: Total serum calcium might be a more sensitive parameter for metabolic syndrome in endometrioid endometrial cancer patients than lipids.

        Reliability Evaluation of Key Hydraulic Components for Actuators of FAST Based on Small Sample Test

        The five-hundred meter aperture spherical radio telescope (FAST) is China’s major science and technology infrastructure project. Upon completion, this telescope will be considered the largest single-dish radio telescope in the world. As main active mechanism of FAST, 2225 hydraulic actuators are used for adjusting the reflectors. The reliability of hydraulic actuators is the most critical matter. This paper applies the reliability theory and reliability test method into large project for the first time. Firstly, a parallel energy-saving method and equipment to test the two components of the actuators for FAST are designed. Secondly, reliability model based on small sample test is used to perform the best linear unbiased estimation of the test data. Average impact lifetime of the sampled gear pump and the sampled relief valve in their working condition are calculated. Finally, the results show that the lifetime request of the sampled gear pump and the sampled relief valve for hydraulic actuator of FAST are satisfied. The research method has guiding significance to the reliability study of key hydraulic components for similar hydraulic systems.

      • A Strategic Study on the Development of Contemporary Chinese Feminist Films from Freud's “Three Essays on Sexology”

        With the rapid development of the social economy, women’s status is gradually improving. Many feminist films are entering the film market. It has becomea new hot topic recently. The development of feminist film theory can be traced back to the 1960s. The scholars began to pay attention to the presentation of women in films and the ideology of gender narrative in films. At the same time, its development trend rapidly expanded globally with the rise of the first feminist movement. In this process, feminist ideas also began to influence the film industry, gradually making female characters and themes important film components. Purpose: Feminist film theory is an important genre of contemporary film theory, originating in the 1960s. It is a theoretical school that integrates various theories and methods, such as psychoanalysis, post-structuralism, and semiotics, for comprehensive research. This article explores how feminist films should avoid existing problems and continue to develop based on Freud's theory of sexual development trends in his " Three Essays on the Theory of Sexuality ". Methods: This article adopts methods such as literature review, comparative research, and case analysis to explore the future development trends of feminist films from multiple perspectives. Results: This article explored and analyzed the development process of feminism as portrayed in Freud's " Three Essays on the Theory of Sexuality " and Laura Mulvey's feminist film theory from multiple aspects and proposed its future development strategies. Conclusion: In recent years, feminist films have been continuously developed and show diversified themes and genres. However, feminist films, both domestically and internationally, have not yet formed a complete system and corresponding theories. For example, their in-depth exploration of the core theme and innovation in films’ content and themes needs development. Therefore, in response to such issues, the future development measures for feminist films are as follows: 1. Increase the proportion of female directors; 2. Increase the diversity of female characters; 3. Pay attention to women's issues and conduct in-depth exploration; 4. Enhance the innovation of its localized story; 5. Strengthen international cooperation; 6. Provide National policy support.

        Composite Nanofibers by Growing Polypyrrole on the Surface of Polyaniline Nanofibers Formed under Free Melting Condition and Shell-Thickness-Dependent Capacitive Properties

        An efficient approach was presented to prepare polyaniline/polypyrrole (PANi/PPy) composite nanofibers bygrowing PPy layers on the surface of PANi nanofibrous seeds as electrode materials for supercapacitors in neutral electrolyte. Core layer of PANi nanofiber was firstly synthesized by the chemical oxidative polymerization of aniline monomers underfree melting condition of reaction solutions in fully aqueous system without the assistance of any templates or organicsolvents. Then the shell layer of PPy was fabricated by in-situ chemical oxidative polymerization of pyrrole monomers withthe above-mentioned PANi nanofiber as a seed, and the PPy shell layer thicknesses were tuned by changing the molar ratio ofaniline to pyrrole. The resulting PANi/PPy composites were investigated by field-emission scanning electron microscopy,ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared and Raman spectrometry. Furthermore, electrochemical behaviorsin Na2SO4 electrolyte were tested by cyclic voltammetry, galvanostatic charge-discharge techniques and electrochemicalimpedance spectroscopy. It turned out that low molar ratio of aniline to pyrrole is helpful to increase the PPy shell layerthicknesses, yield and conductivity of PANi/PPy composite nanofibers. A great improvement on the capacitive propertiescould be achieved by choosing appropriate PPy shell layer thickness. The results showed that benefiting from strong synergyeffect and π-π interaction between PANi core and PPy shell layer as well as low electrochemical impedance, PANi/PPycomposite nanofibers prepared with the molar ratio of 1:1 (PPy shell layer thickness of about 12.5 nm) displayed the highestspecific capacitance of 1550.2 F g-1 at scan rate of 5 mV s-1 and 758.8 F g-1 at the current density of 1 A g-1 with the bestcycling stability of 70.3 % after 500 cycles in 0.5 M Na2SO4 electrolyte, which exhibited a great potential in the developmentof high-performance electrode materials operated in environmentally friendly electrolyte.

        Objectives, challenges, and prospects of batch processes: Arising from injection molding applications

        Injection molding, a polymer processing technique that converts thermoplastics into a variety of plasticproducts, is a complicated nonlinear dynamic process that interacts with a different group of variables, including themachine, the mold, the material, and the process parameters. As injection molding process operates sequentially inphases, we treat it as a batch process. The review paper discusses the batch nature of injection molding and identifies thethree main objectives for future development of injection molding: higher efficiency, greater profitability, and longer sustainability. From the perspective of system engineering, our discussion centers on the primary challenges for the batchoperation of injection molding systems: 1) Model development in face of product changes, 2) Control strategies in face ofdynamic changes, 3) Data analysis and process monitoring, and 4) Safety assurance and quality improvement, and thecurrent progress that has been made in addressing these challenges. In light of the advancement of new informationtechnologies, this paper provides several opportunities and encourages further research that may break existing capabilitylimits and develop the next generation of automation solutions to bring about a revolution in this area.

      • Research on the artistic innovation of Chinese adventure films based on Robert Stam's genre theory - centered on Where Nothing Grows

        Background: the recovery of the adventure genre has been relatively slow. This subtle change in the market promotes the artistic innovation of traditional genre films. Robert Stamm's film genre theory provides an important reference. As a typical adventure film, “Where Nothing Grows” provides a case to explore artistic innovation. Purpose: This paper will sort the development status of Chinese adventure films based on Robert's genre film theory. “Where Nothing Grows” as the research object, this paper discusses promoting artistic innovation of domestic adventure films from three aspects: narrative expression, character construction, and visual image. Methods: In the first stage, through literature research, this paper analyzes and summarizes the development status of adventure films. The second stage discusses Chinese adventure films' problems and innovative means through cases based on Robert Stamm's genre theory. In the third stage, through comparative research, the film“Where Nothing Grows” is used as a yardstick/control/base film for comparison against other adventure films since 2015. Then, the differences in artistic innovation of their genre characteristics are discussed. Results: The research found that developing Chinese adventure films in the post-epidemic era faces some difficulties and challenges. However, these films' narrative expression, character construction, and visual impact can be improved/needs improvement. Conclusion: Domestic adventure films can complete the innovation of plot structure through 1. Narrative expression; 2. Construct characters that challenge established concepts of traditional roles; 3. Visual images to break the aesthetic fatigue of "visual wonders". These three aspects open up a diversified path for the artistic innovation of domestic adventure films and achieve the result of expanding the artistic innovation space of domestic genre films.
