Optimal extraction conditions and antioxidant activity of legume crop functional components
Gyeong-Dan Yu,Eom-Ji Hwang,Jae Hee Jeong,Yeong-Hoon Lee 한국식품영양과학회 2021 한국식품영양과학회 학술대회발표집 Vol.2021 No.10
Recently, while the demand for healthy functional food has been steadily increasing, demand for legumes, which are abundant sources of protein and rich in isoflavones is also increasing. Sword beans, chickpeas, broad beans, and peas are known to be effective in relieving inflammation, lowering cholesterol, and diuresis. In this study, the optimal extraction conditions and antioxidant activity of the extracts were tested to evaluate the value of these legumes as food materials. Ethanol and methanol were used as solvents, and extraction concentrations were 60, 80, and 100%, respectively. As a result, it was confirmed that the optimal extraction solvent and concentration of the antioxidant active substance was ethanol 60%. The DPPH radical scavenging activity of the 60% ethanol extract was 79.7%, 87.6%, and 83.3% in chickpea, pigeon bean, and broad bean, respectively. ABTS radical scavenging activity was found to be 34.6% of pigeon beans and 37.7% of broad beans. The DPPH and ABTS scavenging activities of sword beans were low at 8% and 7.4%. The use of these other crops is expected to increase steadily, and these data will be used as basic data for food material development.

Doping of semiconductor nanocrystals by transition-metal ions has attracted tremendous attention owing to their nanoscale spintronic applications. Such doping is, however, difficult to achieve in low-dimensional strongly quantum confined nanostructures by conventional growth procedures. Here we demonstrate that the incorporation of manganese ions up to 10% into CdSe quantum nanoribbons can be readily achieved by a nucleation-controlled doping process. The cation-exchange reaction of (CdSe)13 clusters with Mn2+ ions governs the Mn2+ incorporation during the nucleation stage. This highly efficient Mn2+ doping of the CdSe quantum nanoribbons results in giant exciton Zeeman splitting with an effective g-factor of ∼600, the largest value seen so far in diluted magnetic semiconductor nanocrystals. Furthermore, the sign of the s–d exchange is inverted to negative owing to the exceptionally strong quantum confinement in our nanoribbons. The nucleation-controlled doping strategy demonstrated here thus opens the possibility of doping various strongly quantum confined nanocrystals for diverse applications.

The high quality Chinese Fuzhuan brick-tea grows mainly a yellow colored fungus, Eurotium sp. which is called as a golden flowering tea. It is known that Eurotium species are the sexual states of Aspergillus species. A few studies reveal that extracts from microbial fermented teas contain natural antimicrobial components that have inhibitive effect on several food-borne pathogen and spoilage bacteria. In this study, golden flowering teas were manufactured using inoculated a single fungus, E. cristatum, fermented and identified the microbes in the fermented teas by means of pyrosequencing. The microbial fermented tea, which grows yellow colored fungi was manufactured through 5-step processing such as mother-tea preparation, inoculation, fermentation, ripeness and desiccation. The manufacturing processes were already applied to nation patent (2014-0010502). In order to grouping the microbes and survey some contamination with harmful microbes, the pyrosequencing was performed on 8-samples manufactured different conditions. The result have shown that the phylum was Ascomycota 99.8%, the class was Eurotiomycetes 99.8% among total 27 class, the order was Eurotiales 99.6~99.8% among total 41 order, the family was Trichocomaceae 99.6~99.8% among 48 family, and the genus was Aspergillus 94.3~97.9% among 63 genus. The8-samples had 100% similarity in above 5-classification except genus level, otherwise the genus level have shown 94.3~97.9% of Aspergillus and 1.8~5.3% of Penicillium. The microbial fermented tea was manufactured successfully by single fungus inoculation. The pyrosequencing results indicate that the genus Aspergillus is existed dominantly in the tea which is the asexual name of Eurotium.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The aim of this study was to evaluate the beneficial effects of Schisandrae semen essential oil (SSeo) on apoptosis events and the mechanisms associated with these effects in human leukemia U937 cells. The treatment of U937 cells with SSeo significantly inhibited survival and induced apoptosis. Schisandrae semen essential oil treatment increased the levels of death receptors and Fas, and activated caspases accompanied by proteolytic degradation of poly(ADP-ribose)-polymerase, which was associated with the downregulation of members of the inhibitor of apoptosis protein family protein expression; however, a pan-caspase inhibitor reversed SSeo-induced apoptosis. Treating the cells with SSeo also caused truncation of Bid, translocation of proapoptotic Bax to the mitochondria, and loss of mitochondrial membrane permeabilization, thereby inducing the release of cytochrome <I>c</I> into the cytosol. Subsequently, SSeo upregulated the translocation of mitochondrial apoptogenic factors, such as endonuclease G and apoptosis-inducing factor, into the nucleus during the apoptotic process. Notably, SSeo immediately increased the generation of intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS); however, pretreatment with <I>N</I>-acetylcysteine, a common ROS quencher, almost completely blocked SSeo-induced apoptosis. Taken together, these findings indicate that SSeo caused ROS- and caspase-dependent cell death involving mitochondrial dysfunction and nuclear translocation of mitochondrial proapoptosis proteins. Based on our data, the consumption of Schisandrae semen or its essential oil is a good natural therapeutic agent for anticancer activity and regression.</P>

<P>This paper proposes a novel wavelet de-noising scheme regarding the existing burst noises that consist of background and impulsive noises in power-line communications. The proposed de-noising scheme employs multi-level threshold functions to efficiently and adaptively reduce the given burst noises. The experiment results show that the proposed denoising scheme significantly outperformed the conventional schemes.</P>
