In the treatment of tuberculous spondylitis, posterior spinal fusion is more simple and safe procedures than anterior spinal fusion. We performed bilateral anterior spinal fusion with autologous iliac bone graft and concomitant with psoas muscle abscess drainage and antituberculosis drug. As a result, patient was possible early ambulation and he had no recurrence, no complication such as resorption of bone fragment and kyphotic angle change. This article describeds the advantage of bilateral anterior approach in tuberculous spondylitis wish psoas abscess.

A simple and highly sensitive method for the determination of unsaturated fatty acids (C_16:1, C_20:4, C_20:5) is described. I-Bromoacetylpyrene was used as the pre-column fluorescent labelling reagent for HPLC. Fatty acids were derivatized quantitatively into fluorescent compounds by treating with 1-bromoacetylpyrene in the presence of 18-crown- 6 in acetonitrile. The optimum conditions for the derivatization such as, concentrations of KOH, 18-crown-6, and 1-bromoacetylpyrene, reaction temperature and reaction time, were investigated. The derivatives were separated on a reversed phase column (LiChrosorb RP-8, 5 ㎛) using the tertiary mixture of acetonitrile, methanol, and water as the mobile phase. The effluent was monitored by fluorometer (excitation wavelength; 366 nm, emission wavelength; 454 nm). Linearities of calibration curve were obtained between 5.0 p mol and 40.0 p mol. The detection limit of fatty acids was 1 p mol in a 20μl of injection volume.

The absorbance ratio method was applied to the quantitative determination of antihistamines, such as chlorpheniramine maleate(CPM), carbinoxamine maleate(CBM) and diphenhydramine hydrochloride. The influences of indicator and solvent concentration on the precision and accutacy of determination were investigated. And it was found that the effects of temperature and wavelength was negligible in case of averaging conditions. The standard deviations for three antihistamines tested were within 0.13%. As the results, the determination of antihistamines could be carried out easily, rapidly and accurately by the absorbance ratio method.

The immunohistochemical (ABC method) studies on the ontogeny and localization of the catecholamine-synthesizing enzyme tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) were examined in rat brain from the 12th fetal day until the 9th postnatal day. The results obtained were as follows : 1. Tyrosine hydroxylase was first detected immunohistochemically at embryonic day 13(E13). At this stage, the TH-containing neurons were still migrating and cytologically immature. 2. The changes occuring from the early to the late prenatal stages of development appeared to be the result of an increase in the number and size of the TH-containing cells and in the length of nerve fibers. 3. The distribution of the TH-containing neurons at embryonic day 19(E19) more closely resembled catecholaminergic neurons in the adult rat brain : 1) a rhombencephalic group became the A1-7 ; 2) a ventral mesencephalic group became A8-10 ; 3) a ventral prosencephalic group and a few neurons ventral to the striatum became A11-14 ; and 4) the cells of the olfactory bulb corresponded to the A15. 4. The cytodifferentiation of the TH-immunoreactive neurons was accompanied by continued migration to form the collective catecholaminergic groups during ontogenesis. In addition, the morphology of the TH-immunoreactive neurons in the late prenatal stage resembled in the adult rat brain.
형광유도체화제로 Bansyl-Cl을 이용한 Dopamine, Norepinephrin의 HPLC분석법에 관한 연구

A rapid and high sensitive HPLC method for the determination of dopamine and norepinephrine is described. 5 -Dibutyl-aminonaphthalene-1-sulfonyl chloride (bans yl-Cl) was used as a pre-column fluorescent derivatizing reagent for HPLC determination of the two compounds. The optimal conditions for the derivatization of dopamine and norepinephrine with bansyl-Cl such as pH, reaction time, reaction temperature, and the amount of bansyl-Cl were described. The structures of bansyl derivatives were identified by Infrared and ^1H-NMR spectroscopy. The bansyl derivatives were separated on Radialpak^TM NH_2 column using the mixture of cyclohexane and ethyl acetate as the mobile phase and monitored by fluorescence detector. Linearity of calibration curve was obtained and the detection limits in a 5 μl injection volume were 2.5ng/ml, respectively.
현행 중학교 과학 실험·실습교육에 대한 교사들의 견해와 개선방안

The status of facilities, management of the experiment, practices, and Science education teaching method in middle school have been investigated. The present status and reasonable management of middle school science education have been grasped from the questionaires. The results are as follows : The reasonable management for expeiments and practices of science education were scanty in the middle school around the urban and rural schools owing to the shortage of facilities and equipments, crowded class, excessive classes, work for teachers, excessive contents of present textbook and insufficience of administrative support etc. The current teaching method of middle school science has emphasized knowledge. This fact does not satisfy the objective of learning due to lack of teaching method. Desirable directions for the improvement of present status of middle school science education were proposed in this paper.
HPLC용 형광유도체화제인 1-(N,N-dimethylamino)pyrene-6-sulfonyl chloride를 이용한 GABA와 Glutamate의 HPLC분석에 관한 연구

Abstract-Fluorescent derivatives of amino acid neurotransmitter such as GABA and glutamate were synthesized using 1-(N,N-dimethylamino)pyrene-6-sulfonyl chloride (DAPS-Cl) as a derivatizing reagent. GABA and glutamate were derivatized quantitatively into fluorescent compounds by reacting with DAPS-Cl. The optimal conditions for the derivatization of GABA and glutamate with DAPS-Cl were estimated such as pH, reaction temperature and time, and the amount of DAPS-Cl. The derivatives were separated on a reverse phase column with a gradient elution using the 30 mM phosphate buffer and acetonitrile, and monitored by fluorescence detector. Calibration curves for GABA and glutamate exhibited good linearty over 1∼5 pmol. GABA and glutamate in hippocampus of rat brain were determined. After postmortem of rat brain, GABA increasing and glutamate decreasing in hippocampus were prevented 3-mercaptopropionic acid and microwave application.
吸光光度法에 의한 混合製劑 中의 Propantheline bromide의 定量

Determination of Propantheline bromide (PTB) in mixed pharmaceutical preparations was examined and highly selective and precise method was established. PTB reacts with Bromphenol blue in pH 7.6 to give a blue color. This chromogen can be extracted into chloroform-benzene (3 : 1) and shows an absorption maximum at 605 nm. The recommended procedure as follows. In a separatory funnel, a sample solution containing about 100㎍ of PTB, 1 ml of 5×10^-4 M Bromphenol blue solution, 3 ml of Clark-lubs buffer solution (pH 7.6) are mixed, and then shakes up for 1 min. with 20 ml of chloroform-benzene (3 : 1). The complex extracted in the organic layer is stable and the absorbance is measured at 605 nm against a reagent blank. Concentration range of PTB determinable by this method is from 50 to 200㎍/ml and average deviation is 1.22%(n=6).
Amphetamine 및 Phenethylamine 誘導體의 效果的인 確認 및 分析法에 관한 硏究

Amphetamine and phenethylamine derivatives, methamphetamine, ephedrine and norephedrine react on heating with 7-chloro-4-nitrobenzo-2, 1, 3, -oxadiazole (NBD-CI) in alkaline methanolic solution to from highly fluorescent NBD-amine derivatives. The thin-layer chromatographic identification method and fluorometric determination of amphetamine and phenethiylamine derivatives are presented. Reaction conditions are also described with solvent effect on maximum excitation and emision wavelengths and fluorscence intensity of NBD-amine derivatives.

Plasmodium vivax malaria is an endemic disease in Korea, which rarely causes severe complications including those occurring in the cerebrum. There are limited numbers of complicated cases that have been reported around the world. We experienced a case of vivax malaria with cerebral complication: cognitive impairment and ataxia. A 55-year-old female with diabetes mellitus presented to the emergency department with acute fever of two days’ duration. She did not have any history of travelling abroad or receiving blood transfusions. Peripheral blood smear revealed vivax malaria with parasitemia density of 0.53 percent. She demonstrated loss of orientation, especially regarding time and place, and ataxia. Although the initial hydroxychloroquine treatment for malaria was successful, cognitive impairment and ataxia persisted and were not recovered. Brain MRI showed no structural abnormality. Brain PET showed diffuse hypometabolism in right parieto-temporal lobe of the brain.
