        한국염소에서 실험적 총담관부분 및 완전폐쇄에 따른 임상생화학적 연구

        Clinical signs, serum chemical values and histological findings of hepatic tissue after partial and complete obstruction of common bile duct in Korean goats were investigated. Abnormal clinical signs were not observed in partial obstruction of common bile duct, but in complete obstruction clinical signs such as jaundice, urine color change, were observed. Serum total bilirubin, total cholesterol, aspartate aminotransferase, sorbitol dehydrogenase, gamma glutamyltranspeptidase, and total protein values increased on the 1-4th day and then gradually decreased to normal level in partial obstruction. However, they tend to increase persistently by the 24th day in complete obstruction of common bileduct. Histologic features of hepatic tissue in partial obstruction were not changed as compared with normal hepatic tissue. On the other hand, in complete obstruction of common bite duct there were moderate bile duct proliferation in a portal area, rupture of bile canaliculi, phagocytosis of bile pigment by Kupffer cells, periportal fibrosis, intrahepatic bile stasis and hepatic cell necrosis.

        마음수련 명상이 우울증상이 있는 성인의 우울, 불안 및 스트레스 감소에 미치는 효과

        본 연구는 마음수련 명상이 우울증상이 있는 성인의 우울, 불안 및 스트레스 반응에 미치는 효과를 측정한 단일군 사전-사후 측정 유사실험 설계이다. 2012년 9월 8일부터 2012년 12월 29일까지 논산시 소재 마음수련 메인센터에서 진행되는 마음수련 명상 1단계에 참여한 성인들 중에서 과거에 의사로부터 DSM-IV 기준 우울증을 진단받았던 적이 있는 성인 76명 중 현재 약물치료를 받고 있는 경우와 BDI-II 스크리닝 점수가 10점 미만으로 우울하지 않은 상태로 나온 경우를 제외한 42명이 본 연구의 대상자이 다. 연구 결과 첫째, 1주일간의 마음수련 명상 시행 이후 대상자의 우울, 불안 및 스트레스 반응이 유의하게 감소되었다. 둘째, 중 증의 우울 증상을 가진 대상자와 경중도의 우울 증상을 가진 대상자에 따라 마음수련 명상의 효과에는 차이가 있었고 중증의 우 울 증상을 가진 환자에게서 우울, 불안 및 스트레스 반응의 감소 폭이 더 컸다. 이로써 우울 장애의 예방과 정신 건강 향상을 위 한 전략으로서 마음수련 명상을 활용한 프로그램을 개발하여 적용할 것과 우울장애 및 정신장애 환자에 대한 정밀한 효과 검증을 위한 후속 연구가 수행되어야 함을 제언한다. This study was conducted to measure the effect of Mind Subtraction Meditation on depression, anxiety, and stress responses of individuals with depression symptoms. The study was conducted with one-group, pretest-posttest, and quasi-experiment??design. Among the adults who have participated Mind Subtraction Meditation level 1 at Nonsan Main Center from 2012, September 8th to 2012, December 29th, there were 76 adults who had the record of being diagnosed with DSM-IV measure depression from a psychiatrist. The total of 42 adults were finally invited to this study, which remained after excluding those who are undergoing medicine treatment, and those who have been proved to be not depressed, scoring less than 10 point in BDI-Ⅱ screening. The data analysis of 42 participants who consented to the study suggests the followings. First, there was a very significant decrease in depression, anxiety, and stress responses in participants after first week of Mind Subtraction Meditation practice. Secondly, there were differences in effect of Mind Subtraction Meditation when comparing posttest scores of the severe depression and mild-moderate depression groups, showing more significant decrease in depression, anxiety, and stress response in severe depression group. We suggest more development and utilization of programs using the Mind Subtraction Meditation as a??strategy to improve mental health issues in adults and prevent depression problems, and also more follow-up studies to take place in order to evaluate its accurate effect on depression or mental patients.

        Design and Analysis of AlGaN/GaN MIS HEMTs with a Dual-metal-gate Structure

        This paper analyzes the effect of a dual-metal-gate structure on the electrical characteristics of AlGaN/GaN metal-insulator-semiconductor high electron mobility transistors. These structures have two gate metals of different work function values (ф), with the metal of higher ф in the source-side gate, and the metal of lower ф in the drain-side gate. As a result of the different ф values of the gate metals in this structure, both the electric field and electron velocity in the channel become better distributed. For this reason, the transconductance, current collapse phenomenon, breakdown voltage, and radio frequency characteristics are improved. In this work, the devices were designed and analyzed using a 2D technology computer-aided design simulation tool.

        Seroprevalence of SARS-CoV-2 antibodies during the third wave of COVID-19 in the Seoul metropolitan area of Korea

        OBJECTIVES After the third wave of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), by mid-February 2021, approximately 0.16% of the Korean population was confirmed positive, which appeared to be among the lowest rates worldwide at that time. However, asymptomatic transmission is challenging for COVID-19 surveillance. Therefore, a community-based serosurvey of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection was conducted to understand the effectiveness of Korea’s strong containment strategy. METHODS We collected 5,002 residual sera samples from January 30 to March 3, 2021, from 265 medical facilities in Seoul, 346 in Gyeonggi Province, and 57 in Incheon. Sixty samples from tertiary institutions were excluded. We defined the sub-regions according to the addresses of the medical facilities where the specimens were collected. Elecsys Anti-SARS-CoV-2 was used for screening, and positivity was confirmed using the SARS-CoV-2 sVNT Kit. Prevalence was estimated using sampling weights and the Wilson score interval for a binomial proportion with a 95% confidence interval. RESULTS Among the 4,942 specimens, 32 and 25 tested positive for COVID-19 in the screening and confirmatory tests, respectively. The overall crude prevalence of SARS-CoV-2 antibodies was 0.51%. The population-adjusted overall prevalence was 0.55% in women and 0.38% in men. The region-specific estimation was 0.67% and 0.30% in Gyeonggi Province and Seoul, respectively. No positive cases were detected in Incheon. CONCLUSIONS The proportion of undetected cases in Korea remained low as of early 2021. Therefore, an infection control strategy with exhaustive tracing and widespread pre-emptive testing appears to be effective in containing community spread of COVID-19.

        ANGPTL4 stabilizes atherosclerotic plaques and modulates the phenotypic transition of vascular smooth muscle cells through KLF4 downregulation

        Atherosclerosis, the leading cause of death, is a vascular disease of chronic inflammation. We recently showed that angiopoietin-like 4 (ANGPTL4) promotes cardiac repair by suppressing pathological inflammation. Given the fundamental contribution of inflammation to atherosclerosis, we assessed the role of ANGPTL4 in the development of atherosclerosis and determined whether ANGPTL4 regulates atherosclerotic plaque stability. We injected ANGPTL4 protein twice a week into atherosclerotic Apoe−/− mice and analyzed the atherosclerotic lesion size, inflammation, and plaque stability. In atherosclerotic mice, ANGPTL4 reduced atherosclerotic plaque size and vascular inflammation. In the atherosclerotic lesions and fibrous caps, the number of α-SMA(+), SM22α(+), and SM-MHC(+) cells was higher, while the number of CD68(+) and Mac2(+) cells was lower in the ANGPTL4 group. Most importantly, the fibrous cap was significantly thicker in the ANGPTL4 group than in the control group. Smooth muscle cells (SMCs) isolated from atherosclerotic aortas showed significantly increased expression of CD68 and Krüppel-like factor 4 (KLF4), a modulator of the vascular SMC phenotype, along with downregulation of α-SMA, and these changes were attenuated by ANGPTL4 treatment. Furthermore, ANGPTL4 reduced TNFα-induced NADPH oxidase 1 (NOX1), a major source of reactive oxygen species, resulting in the attenuation of KLF4-mediated SMC phenotypic changes. We showed that acute myocardial infarction (AMI) patients with higher levels of ANGPTL4 had fewer vascular events than AMI patients with lower levels of ANGPTL4 (p < 0.05). Our results reveal that ANGPTL4 treatment inhibits atherogenesis and suggest that targeting vascular stability and inflammation may serve as a novel therapeutic strategy to prevent and treat atherosclerosis. Even more importantly, ANGPTL4 treatment inhibited the phenotypic changes of SMCs into macrophage-like cells by downregulating NOX1 activation of KLF4, leading to the formation of more stable plaques.
