      • Improved Image Denoising Based on 3D Collaborative Filtering

        As the state-of-art denoising method, BM3D is capable of achieving good denoising performance by exploiting both the non-local characteristics and sparsity prior knowledge of images. Nevertheless, experimental results show that the dissimilarity measurement defined in BM3D sometimes results in grouping patches with distinct structure. Inspired by the fact about the different impact of noise on patches with various structures, we propose a structure-adaptive image denoising method with 3D collaborative filtering by optimizing the block matching procedure. In our method, the similarity in the variance between patches is incorporated in block matching procedure. Besides, based on the prior knowledge of correlation among patches in the same neighborhood, the spatial distance between the reference patch and the candidate is also taken into account when measuring patches’ dissimilarity. Several numerical experiments demonstrate that the proposed approach achieve better results in PSNR and visual effect than original BM3D.

        Detoxified pneumolysin derivative ΔA146Ply inhibits autophagy and induces apoptosis in acute myeloid leukemia cells by activating mTOR signaling

        Leukemia is caused by the malignant clonal expansion of hematopoietic stem cells, and in adults, the most common type of leukemia is acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Autophagy inhibitors are often used in preclinical and clinical models in leukemia therapy. However, clinically available autophagy inhibitors and their efficacy are very limited. More effective and safer autophagy inhibitors are urgently needed for leukemia therapy. In a previous study, we showed that ΔA146Ply, a mutant of pneumolysin that lacks hemolytic activity, inhibited autophagy of triple-negative breast cancer cells by activating mannose receptor (MR) and toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) and that tumor-bearing mice tolerated ΔA146Ply well. Whether this agent affects AML cells expressing TLR4 and MR and the related mechanisms remain to be determined. In this study, we found that ΔA146Ply inhibited autophagy and induced apoptosis in AML cells. A mechanistic study showed that ΔA146Ply inhibited autophagy by activating mammalian target of rapamycin signaling and induced apoptosis by inhibiting autophagy. ΔA146Ply also inhibited autophagy and induced apoptosis in a mouse model of AML. Furthermore, the combination of ΔA146Ply and chloroquine synergistically inhibited autophagy and induced apoptosis in vitro and in vivo. Overall, this study provides an alternative effective autophagy inhibitor that may be used for leukemia therapy.

        A Z-scheme CuO–ZnO–ZnS–CuS quaternary nanocomposite for solar-light-driven photocatalytic performance

        A quaternary CuO–CuS–ZnO–ZnS nanocomposite was successfully synthesized via a facile microwave irradiation based on the preprepared ZnS and CuO nanoparticles. CuO–CuS–ZnO–ZnS nanocomposite was a porous photocatalyst, providing excellent adsorption performance. It was sensitive to both ultraviolet and visible light, moreover, the photoelectrochemical measurements confirmed that there was a high separation rate and low recombination rate of photo-generated charge carriers in the nanocomposite, endowing excellent photocatalytic activity in the sunlight. Under the simulated solar light irradiation, the removal efficiency of rhodamine B (RhB) pollutant (30 mg/L) over CuO–CuS–ZnO–ZnS nanocomposite was 33.98 and 2.90 times of pristine CuO and ZnS, respectively. The outstandingt photocatalytic performance was attributed to Z-scheme charge transfer path.

        Nutrigenomics reveals potential genetic underpinning of diverse taste preference of Chinese men

        Background Taste preference varies geographically in China. However, studies on Chinese people’s taste preference in different regions of China are limited, and are lack of research on the mechanism of diferences in taste preference, especially in genetics. Objective This study aims to investigate the characteristics of taste preference of Chinese men, and estimate whether diverse taste preference in Chinese have genetic underpinning. Methods We conducted a questionnaire survey on taste preferences on 1076 males from 10 regions of China, and collected another 1427 males from the same regions which genotyped by microarray. We compared the correlation between diferent taste preference, and evaluated the correlation between the mutation frequency of inhouse database and diferent taste preference. The putative taste-preference-related genes were further utilized to estimate the candidate relationship on gene and gene network in diferent taste preference. Results There was a correlation between diferent taste preferences in Chinese men. We found 31 SNPs associated with 6 kind of taste preferences. These SNPs located within or nearby 36 genes, and the tastes associated with 4 of these genes (TRPV1, AGT, ASIC2 and GLP1R) are consistent with the previous studies. Moreover, in diferent tastes which were suggested to be associated with each other, some putative related genes were the same or in the same gene network, such as pathways related with blood pressure, response to stimulus and nervous system. Conclusions This study indicates that the diverse taste preference of Chinese men may have genetic underpinning.

      • A Network Coding Based Routing Protocol in Wireless Sensor Networks

        Since wireless sensor networks have limited energy resources, energy efficiency and reliable data transmission rate are key issues in designing the topology. In this paper, a new root protocol NCQ-DD is proposed in order to solve the issue of limited performance of DD in wireless sensor networks. NCQ-DD greatly improves traditional DD protocol by utilizing random linear network coding technology and service quality perception. Experimental results show that the new routing protocol can save network bandwidth resources and sensor node’s energy, improve data transmission rate and ensure reliable transmission, thus increasing the lifetime of sensor networks.

      • A New Camera Calibration Method Based on Orientation Points in Digital Close-Range Industrial Photogrammetry

        In order to solve the restriction of the two common calibration modes applied in digital close-range industrial photogrammetry, a new camera calibration method based on orientation points was proposed. Firstly, image sequences were obtained applying a calibration plate with five orientation points. The ellipse detection criteria were applied to eliminate the redundant information from images after pretreatment and all target points was determined as well. Then according to the special geometric relationship between orientation points, target points were matched exactly from object space to image space. Finally camera parameters were solved and optimized by the Gauss-Newton algorithm. In laboratory, the proposed theory was proved robust in Matlab2010 and could meet the measurement accuracy requirements.

        Accuracy Improving Deformation Measurement System for Large Components in Thermal Vacuum Using Close-Range Photogrammetry

        The structure deformation of the spacecraft due to the variation of temperature in space has a significant effect on the performance and stability of the spacecraft. Therefore, a system with high accuracy to identify the deformation is proposed in this study for large components in thermal vacuum using close-range photogrammetry. A novel thermal vacuum deformation measurement platform is firstly presented to provide a space simulation chamber in where not only temperature of specimen are available from − 170 to + 140 °C, but also coordinates of measurement points of component can be efficiently measured by using close-photogrammetry. In addition, an improved deformation computation method based on coordinate optimization registration is proposed. In this method, through combining random sample consensus with singular value decomposition, partial global points whose variations are relatively small can be selected for coordinate registration. Finally, the deformation measurement for the main reflector of a Cassegrain antenna in thermal vacuum is selected as an example to validate the effectiveness of the proposed platform and method. The experimental results show that the platform and method are practical and will provide a foundation for further applications.

        Quality evaluation of different varieties of dry red wine based on nuclear magnetic resonance metabolomics

        The metabolites that provide the aroma and flavor to wine are the products of several influences, such as grape cultivar, geographic location and associated environmental features, viticultural practices, and vinification techniques, which are central to production protocols, quality evaluation and development of wine regions. Accordingly, we initiated the requisite studies to investigate the differences in the dry red wine metabolites of different grape varieties. The proton-nuclear magnetic resonance technique (1H-NMR) combined with multivariate statistical analysis was used to investigate the changes of metabolite levels in Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Gernischt dry red wines vinified in Changli, Hebei province, China, in 2017. The results showed that the types of metabolites in different varieties of dry red wines were similar, but the content was significantly different. The main contributors to the differences in Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Gernischt dry red wines were ethyl acetate, lactic acid, alanine, succinic acid, proline, malic acid, and gallic acid, indicating 1H-NMR method combined with multivariate statistical analysis can distinguish these three types of dry red wines from each other. It provides a benchmark for further comparative study on wine quality and the verification of wine authenticity.

      • Expression and localization of insulin-like growth factor-I in four parts of the red deer antler

        <P> The expression and localization of insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I) in the four parts (tip, upper, mid and base) of the red deer antler has been extensively investigated. We used reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and real-time reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (real time RT-PCR), in situ hybridization, immunohistochemistry and Western blot techniques to localize IGF-I messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) and IGF-I peptide in the four parts of the antler. The specific sequence encoding IGF-I was detected by RT-PCR in all of the four specimens, and the 395 bp IGF-I sequence from the red deer antler was shown to have very high homology with human, goat and mouse IGF-I. In situ hybridization and immunohistochemistry results demonstrated that the expression of IGF-I occurred in chondrocytes and osteoblasts in the tip and upper parts of the antler. However, IGF-I was only detectable in osteoblasts around the bone in the mid and base parts. There were significant differences in the intensity of the signal obtained with the IGF-I probe in the tip, upper, mid and base tissues. The Western blot analysis also provided evidence that IGF-I expression was localized differentially in the four parts of the deer antler. This study indicates that antler tissue is an essential part of the IGF system, which is involved in the regulation of the growth of red deer antlers. The specific expression of IGF-I in the four parts of the deer antler suggests that the IGF-I molecule is present at significantly different levels throughout the deer antler development and regeneration processes. Localization of IGF-I in chondrocytes and osteoblasts suggests that IGF-I may play an important role in cartilage and bone formation. In addition, it may have a variety of biophysical effects that influence the rapid growth of deer antlers.</P>
