<P>Active disturbance rejection control method that can actively compensate nonlinear model uncertainties and unpredictable external disturbances is proposed for an accurate position tracking of an ionic polymer-metal composite actuator. An empirical model of the electroactive polymer actuator is constructed by fitting the step response of the actuator. Experimental results show that the present active disturbance rejection control scheme can substantially improve the control performance in the tracking of various reference motions including step, sinusoidal, trapezoidal, and sawtooth wave profiles. The proposed scheme offers an innovative solution for the position tracking of an ionic polymer-metal composite actuator with highly nonlinear dynamics.</P>

The robust control problem for a class of mismatched uncertain parabolic distributed parameter systems is studied under conditions of the uncertain terms being norm-bounded. The proposed robust controller can guarantee the system states to be the uniform ultimate boundedness, and their bound can be arbitrarily small. And, the proposed control method is successfully applied to a typical diffusion-reaction process with uncertain terms.

In this paper, the sliding mode dynamic disturbance decoupling tracking control method based on thelinear extended state observer (LESO) is proposed for a class of square multivariable nonlinear uncertain system. The model plant contains the known linear dynamics, the unknown nonlinear dynamics and the internal and externaldisturbances, and the various input-output pairs are interacted. The system states are not available for measurement. An improved LESO is developed. The leading feature which is different from the typical ESO lies in that itsextended state does not contain the known linear dynamics. The improved LESO can guarantee the error variablesto be uniformly ultimately bounded with respect to a ball whose radius is a function of design parameters. So thisball radius can be arbitrarily as small as desired by tuning design parameters. And we give a simple method by whichthe gain parameters of LESO can be computed easily. This estimation to the total disturbance of the original systemis introduced into the sliding mode control design to complete disturbance rejection and decoupling. Rigorousstability analysis shows that the system output can track the desired signal closely. Finally, a class of mass–spring–damper system is taken to make the numerical simulation analysis to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposedcontrol method.

Classical Fenton and Fenton-like processes destruct organic pollutants in water non-selectively to complete mineralization. However, the usage of classical Fenton or Fenton-like processes is often limited due to the narrow operational pH window, sludge accumulation, inefficient H₂O₂ and efficiency decline. To overcome these constraints, in this study, we used a homogeneous Fe3+-Ce3+-H₂O₂ Fenton-like process to degrade catechol at different experimental conditions. At pH 7, almost 97% of 10 mM catechol can be destructed within 60 min while the degradation by Classical Fenton or Fe3+-H₂O₂ Fenton-like process only 36.2% and 23.7%. The resultant solution after the degradation contains only traces of cerium ions. The sludge created by the process was extensively characterized by FTIR and XPS spectroscopy to elucidate the fate of cerium ions. Electron spin resonance (ESR) data confirmed •OH as the major free radical in Fe3+-Ce3+-H₂O₂ process. Our Fenton-like process widens the optimal pH values to neutral condition.

Background: Hair loss is one of the most distressing side effectsof chemotherapy. Ginseng has been widely used as a medicinal herb in Asian countries. Ginseng is not only potent immunosuppressant but also modulate hair growth. Objectives: In this study, we investigated the effects of Korea red ginseng (KRG) on the prevention of chemotherapy- induced alopecia (CIA). Methods: First, we used cyclophosphamide (150mg/kg) to induce hair follicle dystrophy in C57BL/6 mouse as previously described. Then, we examined the effects of KRG on the regulation of cyclophosphamide induced hair follicle dystrophy in C57BL/6 mouse. Results: We confirmed that KRG induces active hair growth (anagen) in the back skin of C57BL/6 mice and showed that KRG also inhibits massive cyclophosphamide-induced premature catagen development in these mice. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that KRG could be useful as a new alopecia-protectionstrategy, especially in the context of CIA.
P207 : Pro-apoptotic mechanism of TGF-β in human hair follicle epithelial cells
( Long Quan Pi ),( Xing Hai Jin ),( Sungjoo Tommy Hwang ),( Won Soo Lee ) 대한피부과학회 2014 대한피부과학회 학술발표대회집 Vol.66 No.2
Background: Transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) is a multifunctional growth factor that regulates cell growth, differentiation and apoptosis in various cell types. It has been shown that TGF-β plays an important role in the induction of catagenduring the hair cycle. However, the molecular mechanism of TGF-β action onepithelial cell growth of hair follicle has not yet been clearly elucidated. Objectives: In the present study, we investigated the effects of exogenous TGF-β on cultured human follicular keratinocytes (FKs). Results: Exogenous TGF-β induced FK apoptosis through caspase-3 activation which was related to elevated reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels. A TGF-β receptor I blocker, SB431542 or antioxidant (NAC), reversed the changes triggered by TGF-β. Conclusion: These data suggest that TGF-β induced apoptosis is mediated by ROS in hair follicle FKs.
