A cam-quadrilateral mechanism for power transmission of a twin-rotor piston engine
Xiaojun Xu,Hao Deng,Cunyun Pan,Haijun Xu 대한기계학회 2014 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.28 No.3
A quadrilateral with four invariable lengths of sides has the characteristic of transforming the variation of the diagonal length to thevariation of its interior angle. Thus, the combination of two quadrilaterals with a cam forms the differential velocity drive mechanism(DVDM) of a novel twin-rotor piston engine (TRPE). The DVDM restricts the two coaxial rotors to rotate with periodical but nonuniformvelocity, and the volume of working chambers created by the adjacent vane pistons of the two rotors alternately expands and thencontracts. The volumetric change of working chambers is used to generate the four-stroke engine cycle. The kinematic model and thedetailed position, velocity, and acceleration analysis results of the TRPE are presented. The results show that this novel engine, associatedwith the advantages of higher uniformity of torque and power density due to multiple power strokes per revolution of the output shaft, hasa compact and totally balanced design.

Background: In suckling piglets, transmissible gastroenteritis virus (TGEV) causes lethal diarrhea accompanied by high infection and mortality rates, leading to considerable economic losses. This study explored methods of preventing or inhibiting their production. Bovine antimicrobial peptide-13 (APB-13) has antibacterial, antiviral, and immune functions. Objectives: This study analyzed the efficacy of APB-13 against TGEV through in vivo and in vitro experiments. Methods: The effects of APB-13 toxicity and virus inhibition rate on swine testicular (ST) cells were detected using 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2, 5-diphenyl tetrazolium bromide (MTT). The impact of APB-13 on virus replication was examined through the 50% tissue culture infective dose (TCID50). The mRNA and protein levels were investigated by real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction and western blot (WB). Tissue sections were used to detect intestinal morphological development. Results: The safe and effective concentration range of APB-13 on ST cells ranged from 0 to 62.5 μg/mL, and the highest viral inhibitory rate of APB-13 was 74.1%. The log10TCID50 of 62.5 μg/mL APB-13 was 3.63 lower than that of the virus control. The mRNA and protein expression at 62.5 μg/mL APB-13 was significantly lower than that of the virus control at 24 hpi. Piglets in the APB-13 group showed significantly lower viral shedding than that in the virus control group, and the pathological tissue sections of the jejunum morphology revealed significant differences between the groups. Conclusions: APB-13 exhibited good antiviral effects on TGEV in vivo and in vitro.

Two biosorbents were prepared using bamboo powder modified with mercaptoacetic acid and carbondisulfide, which exhibits strong adsorption properties for Cu2+ and Ni2+. The obtained materials were characterized byFTIR. Maximum adsorption for both metals was found to occur around pH 5.0-6.5. The kinetic data followed thepseudo-second-order model. The maximum adsorption capacities of Cu2+ and Ni2+ on mercaptoacetic acid modifiedbamboo powder determined from Langmuir isotherm were 103.97mg g−1 and 61.35mg g−1, respectively. While oncarbon disulfide modified bamboo powder were 128.21mg g−1 and 56.82mg g−1, respectively. The adsorption mechanismanalysis revealed that the most possible adsorption mode of Cu2+ was coordination, and Ni2+ was ion exchange. The obtained adsorbents could effectively remove Cu2+ and Ni2+ from industrial electroplating wastewater and could beused repeatedly for more than five cycles.
Ultrafast UV Switch Based on ZnO-Ag Heterostructures
XIU-YUN AN,Feng Teng,Zhenxing Zhang,Xiaojun Pan,Jinyuan Zhou,ER-QING XIE 대한금속·재료학회 2014 ELECTRONIC MATERIALS LETTERS Vol.10 No.1
ZnO-silver (Ag) heterostructure nanoparticle films were prepared by spin-coating, followed by annealing at 700°C for 2 h. The films were then used as UV photodetector which show high photoresponse. The heterostructure-film device displayed an ultrafast decay time of 18 ms and a rise time of 50 ms upon ultraviolet irradiation. Additionally, the time-dependent photocurrent upon UV switching reveals a rectangularly shaped profile, rarely reported in previous literature. The highly improved photoresponse properties of ZnO-Ag heterostructure-film device could be attributed to the Schottky barrier height (SBH) and depletion width reduction from the embedded Ag nanoclusters. Compared to a pure ZnO film, both the responsivity (Rλ) and external quantum efficiency (EQE) of the ZnO-Ag heterostructure-film photodetectors were improved more than 13-fold. This research provides a promising strategy for fabricating UV-photodetectors with ultrafast response.

Backgrounds: Metastasis associated lung adenocarcinoma transcript 1 (MALAT1) is an lncRNA that has been suggested as a key regulator in the onset of atherosclerosis (AS). This study described the role of MALAT1 in oxidized low density lipoprotein (ox-LDL)-induced endothelial cells death. Methods: Human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) were subjected to ox-LDL, before which the expression of MALAT1 was overexpressed by transfection. CCK-8 assay, flow cytometer detection, and western blot were carried out to evaluate cell viability, apoptosis and autophagy. qRT-PCR and western blot analyses were performed to investigate the regulatory relationship between MALAT1, Matrix Gla protein (MGP) and mTOR signaling to decode the underlying mechanism. Results: Up-regulation of MALAT1 attenuated ox-LDLinduced HUVECs lose, as evidenced by the promoted cell viability, and the decreased apoptosis rate. This finding was coupled with the down-regulated p53, Bax, active-caspase-3, Beclin-1 and LC3-II, as well as the up-regulated Bcl-2 and p62. Meanwhile, MALAT1 upregulation promoted the phosphorylation of p70S6K and mTOR, and the expression of MGP. MGP up-regulation exhibited MALAT1-like propoties in preventing ox-LDL-induced cell death and mTOR deactivation. Of contrast, MGP silence affected HUVECs survival and mTOR signaling resulted in contrary impacts. Conclusion: The present work described that MALAT1 up-regulation prevented ox-LDL-mediated apoptosis and autophagy in HUVECs. The protective effects of MALAT1 might be partially via up-regulating MGP, which led to the activation of mTOR signaling.
