Seismic Bearing Capacity of Shallow Foundations Resting on Rock Masses Subjected to Seismic Loads

        Xiao-Ping Zhou,Xin-Bao Gu,Mao-Hong Yu,Qi-Hu Qian 대한토목학회 2016 KSCE JOURNAL OF CIVIL ENGINEERING Vol.20 No.1

This paper analyzes the bearing capacity of shallow foundations resting on rock masses subjected to seismic loads based on limit analysis theory. The non-linear twin shear strength criterion is used to consider the effects of intermediate principal stress on the bearing capacity of shallow foundations. The pseudo-dynamic approach is applied to account for the effects of seismic loads on the bearing capacity of shallow foundations. Both the horizontal and vertical seismic acceleration coefficients and the effects of an amplification factor on the upper bound evaluations of the foundation’s bearing capacity are investigated. The Π-functions are then applied to derive the upper bound solution of the load-bearing capacity. A numerical computation is performed and indicates that the seismic acceleration coefficients, amplification factor and the intermediate principal stress parameter significantly affect the bearing capacity of shallow foundations.

      • A new reconfigurable liquid-metal-antenna-based sensor

        Xiao-Ping Zhou,Yihui Fu,Hantao Zhu,Zihao Yu,Shanyong Wang 국제구조공학회 2022 Smart Structures and Systems, An International Jou Vol.30 No.4

In this paper, a new sensor chip with frequency reconstruction range of 2.252 GHz ~ 2.450 GHz is designed and fabricated. On this basis, a self-designed "T-shaped" shell is added to overcome the disadvantage of uneven deformation of the traditional steel shell, and the range of the sensor chip is expanded to 0 kN ~ 96 kN. The liquid metal antenna is used to carry out a step-by-step loading test, and the relationship between the antenna resonance frequency and the pressure load is analyzed. The results show that there is a good linear relationship between the pressure load and the resonant frequency. Therefore, the liquid metal antenna can be regarded as a pressure sensor. The cyclic loading and unloading experiments of the sensor are carried out, and different loading rates are used to explore the influence on the performance of the sensor. The loading and unloading characteristic curves and the influence characteristic curves of loading rate are plotted. The experimental results show that the sensor has no residual deformation during the cycle of loading and unloading. Moreover, the influence of temperature on the performance of the sensor is studied, and the temperature correction formula is derived.

      • Flexible multimode pressure sensor based on liquid metal

Xiao-Ping Zhou,Zihao Yu 국제구조공학회 2021 Smart Structures and Systems, An International Jou Vol.28 No.6

In this paper, a novel multimode liquid metal-based pressure sensor is developed. The main body of the sensor is composed of polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) elastomer. The structure of the sensor looks like a sandwich, in which the upper structure contains a cylindrical cavity, and the bottom structure contains a spiral microchannel, and the middle partition layer separates the upper and the bottom structures. Then, the liquid metal is injected into the top cavity and the bottom microchannel. Based on linear elastic fracture mechanics, the deformation of the microchannel cross-section is theoretically analyzed. The changes of resistance, capacitance, and inductance of the microchannel under pressure are deduced, and the corresponding theoretical models are established. The theoretical values of the pressure sensor are in good agreement with experimental data, implying that the developed theoretical model can explain the performance of the sensor well.

      • Anti-metastasis Activity of Black Rice Anthocyanins Against Breast Cancer: Analyses Using an ErbB2 Positive Breast Cancer Cell Line and Tumoral Xenograft Model

        Luo, Li-Ping,Han, Bin,Yu, Xiao-Ping,Chen, Xiang-Yan,Zhou, Jie,Chen, Wei,Zhu, Yan-Feng,Peng, Xiao-Li,Zou, Qiang,Li, Sui-Yan Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.15

Background: Increasing evidence from animal, epidemiological and clinical investigations suggest that dietary anthocyanins have potential to prevent chronic diseases, including cancers. It is also noteworthy that human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (ErbB2) protein overexpression or ErbB2 gene amplification has been included as an indicator for metastasis and higher risk of recurrence for breast cancer. Materials and Methods: The present experiments investigated the anti-metastasis effects of black rice anthocyanins (BRACs) on ErbB2 positive breast cancer cells in vivo and in vitro. Results: Oral administration of BRACs (150 mg/kg/day) reduced transplanted tumor growth, inhibited pulmonary metastasis, and decreased lung tumor nodules in BALB/c nude mice bearing ErbB2 positive breast cancer cell MDA-MB-453 xenografts. The capacity for migration, adhesion, motility and invasion was also inhibited by BRACs in MDA-MB-453 cells in a concentration dependent manner, accompanied by decreased activity of a transfer promoting factor, urokinase-type plasminogen activator (u-PA). Conclusions: Together, our results indicated that BRACs possess anti-metastasis potential against ErbB2 positive human breast cancer cells in vivo and in vitro through inhibition of metastasis promoting molecules.

Spatial Path Following Control of an Autonomous Underactuated Airship

        Wei-Xiang Zhou,Chang Xiao,Ping-Fang Zhou,Deng-Ping Duan 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2019 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.17 No.7

This paper studies the spatial path following control of an autonomous underactuated airship in the presence of model uncertainties and external disturbances. Firstly, the nonlinear dynamics model, kinematics modeland path following error dynamics model are given. And the control objective is formulated. Then, an adaptivebackstepping sliding mode controller is designed. Besides, to overcome the disadvantage of dependence on theaccurate vehicle model, a nonlinear disturbance observer (NDOB) is adopted to estimate the attack and sideslip angular velocities. In addition, when backstepping technique is uesd, the complex analytic computation of commandderivative is required to be known. To handle this problem, a sliding mode differentiator is implemented to generatethe command derivatives. Finally, the closed loop stability for the system is proved using Lyapunov stability theory. Numerical simulations are given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Elucidations of weak microcavity effect and improved pixel contrast ratio in Si-based top-emitting organic light-emitting diode

        Xiao-Wen Zhang,Hua-Ping Lin,Jun Li,Fan Zhou,Bin Wei,Xue-Yin Jiang,Zhi-Lin Zhang 한국물리학회 2012 Current Applied Physics Vol.12 No.5

Microcavity effect and pixel contrast ratio (PCR) are key issues for top-emitting organic light-emitting diode (TOLED). Si and Ag are two widely used reflective anodes for constructing effective TOLEDs. The mechanism contributing to microcavity effect and PCR has been clarified by using conventional optoelectronic theory. Consequently, the differences of microcavity effect and PCR between Si-based and Agbased TOLEDs are discovered. Our results indicate that the Si-based TOLED possesses weak microcavity effect and improved PCR in comparison with Ag-based device. This is resulted from the low reflectivity and less reflective phase change of Si. The weak microcavity effect in Si-based TOLED also contributes to negligible variation of electroluminescent spectra with viewing angles and low device efficiency. Furthermore, Si-based TOLED shows rather high PCR which is about quintuple that of Ag-based device. Xiao-Ping Yin,Bu-Lang Gao,Cai-Ying Li,Huan Zhou,Liang Zhao,Ya-Ting Zheng,Yong-Xia Zhao 대한영상의학회 2018 Korean Journal of Radiology Vol.19 No.4

Objective: To investigate the efficiency of spectral computed tomography (CT) optimal monochromatic images in improving imaging quality of liver vessels. Materials and Methods: The imaging data of 35 patients with abdominal CT angiography were retrospectively analyzed. Hepatic arteries, portal veins, and hepatic veins were reconstructed with mixed energy (quality check, QC), 70 keV and optimal monochromatic mode. Comparative parameters were analyzed including CT value, image noise (IN), contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR), signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), and subjective qualitative analysis. Results: The optimal monochromatic value for assessment of the common hepatic artery, portal vein, and hepatic vein ranged between 49 keV and 53 keV, with a mean of 51 keV. There were statistically significant differences (p < 0.001) among the optimal monochromatic, 70 keV and QC images with regards to the hepatic vascular CT value, IN, CNR, SNR, and subjective qualitative score. CNR of the common hepatic artery in the optimal monochromatic, 70 keV and QC groups was 24.6 ± 10.9, 18.1 ± 8.3, and 11.6 ± 4.6, respectively (p < 0.001) with subjective scores of 4.7 ± 0.2, 4.0 ± 0.3, and 3.6 ± 0.4, respectively (p < 0.001). CNR of the hepatic portal vein was 6.9 ± 2.7, 4.3 ± 1.9, and 3.0 ± 2.1, respectively (p < 0.001) with subjective scores of 4.5 ± 0.3, 3.9 ± 0.4, and 3.3 ± 0.3, respectively (p < 0.001). CNR of the hepatic vein was 5.7 ± 2.3, 4.2 ± 1.9, and 2.7 ± 1.4, respectively with subjective scores of 4.3 ± 0.3, 3.8 ± 0.4, and 3.2 ± 0.3, respectively (p < 0.001). Conclusion: Optimal monochromatic images can lead to improvement in the imaging parameters and optimization of the image quality of the common hepatic artery, hepatic portal vein and hepatic vein compared with conventional mixed kV and with 70 keV datasets.

      • Effects of the Hippo Signaling Pathway in Human Gastric Cancer

        Zhou, Guang-Xi,Li, Xiao-Yu,Zhang, Qi,Zhao, Kun,Zhang, Cui-Ping,Xue, Chang-Hu,Yang, Kun,Tian, Zi-Bin Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2013 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.14 No.9

Background/Aim: The Hippo signaling pathway is a newly discovered and conserved signaling cascade, which regulates organ size control by governing cell proliferation and apoptosis. This study aimed to investigate its effects in human gastric cancer. Methods: Tumor tissues (n=60), adjacent non-tumor tissues (n=60) and normal tissues (n=60) were obtained from the same patients with primary gastric cancer (GC). In addition, 70 samples of chronic atrophic gastritis (CAG) tissues were obtained from patients with intestinal metaplasia (IM) by endoscopic biopsy. Hippo signaling molecules, including Mst1, Lats1, YAP1, TAZ, TEAD1, Oct4 and CDX2, were determined by quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR). Protein expression of Mst1, Lats1, YAP1, TEAD1 and CDX2 was assessed by immunohistochemistry and Western blotting. Results: Mst1, Lats1 and Oct4 mRNA expression showed an increasing tendency from GC tissues to normal gastric tissues, while the mRNA expression of YAP1, TAZ and TEAD1 was up-regulated (all P<0.01). Mst1 and Lats1 protein expression presented a similar trend with their mRNA expression. In addition, YAP1 and TEAD1 protein expression in GC was significantly higher than in the other groups (all P<0.01). CDX2 mRNA and protein expression in the CAG group were higher than in the other groups (all P<0.01). In GC, mRNA expression of Mst1, Lats1, Oct4, YAP1, TAZ, TEAD1 and CDX2 had a close correlation with lymphatic metastasis and tumor TNM stage (all P<0.01). Furthermore, protein expression of Mst1, Lats1, YAP1, TAZ, TEAD1 and CDX2 had a close correlation between each other (P<0.05). Conclusion: The Hippo signaling pathway is involved in the development, progression and metastasis of human gastric cancer. Therefore, manipulation of Hippo signaling molecules may be a potential therapeutic strategy for gastric cancer.
