Purpose: To determine the diurnal variation in choroidal thickness and choriocapillaris flow measured by optical coherence tomography (OCT) and optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) Methods: This study was a prospective study of 15 normal, young volunteers (30 eyes) who underwent OCT and OCTA examination 5 times a day at 2-hour intervals. Choroidal and choriocapillaris thicknesses were measured with the enhanced depth imaging mode of OCT. The area of flow was measured in 1-, 3-, and 6-mm-diameter areas centered at the fovea and analyzed with the split-spectrum amplitude- decorrelation angiography algorithm of OCTA. Choroidal and choriocapillaris thicknesses and flows were analyzed independently by two vitreoretinal specialists. Results: Choroidal thickness showed a significant diurnal variation. The maximum thickness was 311.31 μm at 9 a.m., and the minimum thickness was 266.75 μm at 5 p.m. (p < 0.001). In contrast, the mean choriocapillaris thickness was 15.14 μm, and remained relatively constant without a significant diurnal variation (p = 0.694). The mean choriocapillaris flow area was 0.45 mm2 (p = 0.238) in a 1 mm area, 4.22 mm2 (p = 0.230) in a 3-mm diameter area, and 16.94 mm2 (p = 0.062) in a 6-mm diameter area. No diurnal variation was observed. Conclusions: Despite significant diurnal variation in choroidal thickness, choriocapillaris thickness and flow remained relatively constant over time.

Purpose: To introduce novel findings of polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy (PCV) via optical coherence tomographyangiography (OCTA)Methods: This study is a retrospective chart review of 16 patients (16 eyes) with PCV. OCTA (Avanti RTVue XR)findings were evaluated and selected for analysis after agreement by two retina specialists . Results: Twenty one polyps in 16 eyes (16 patients) with PCV were included in this study. The mean patientage was 67 years (13 men and three women). The shape of polypoidal lesions on OCTA at initial were halo(five polyps), rosette (seven polyps), and vascular network (nine polyps). Eight months after anti-vascular endothelialgrowth factor treatment, in a total of four eyes, seven polyps could be followed up completely, thetwo halo type polypoidal lesions changed to rosette and vascular network type. The lesions of three rosetteand two vascular network type lesions did not change in shape. In addition, the size of the polypoidal lesions(one among two halo types, two among three rosette types, and two among two vascular network types) decreased, but one halo type did not change and one rosette type increased in size on OCTA. Conclusions: En-face OCTA enabled us to categorize novel types of PCV with polypoidal lesions.

Background/Aims: Some studies showed the higher prevalence of K. pylori infection in the patients with colon adenoma and carcinoma than control subjects. The association between H. pylori infection and colonic diseases is controversial. We evaluated K. pylori infection rate and the related upper gastrointestinal lesions in the patients with colon polyp and cancer. Methods: Ninety-four subjects, 67 with colonic lesions and 27 without colonic lesions were enrolled. Colon polyp and cancer were confirmed by colonoscopic biopsy or polypectomy. The enrolled subjects were received gastroduodenoscopic examination. K. pylori infection was evaluated serologically and/or with rapid urease test. The fasting serum gastrin level was measured. Results: H. pylori infection rates in the patients with and without colonic lesions were 67.2% and 44.4%, respectively (p$lt;0.05). Upper gastrointestinal lesions were observed in 27 of 67 patients (40.3%) with colonic lesions and in 11 of 27 patients (40.7%) without colonic lesions (p=l.0). Mean levels of serum gastrin with and without colonic lesions were 91.7±31.1 pg/mL and 88.1±37.7 pg/mL, respectively (p=0.15). Conclusions: Our study supports the relationship between H. pylori infection, colorectal neoplasia. Although there was no significant difference, the possibility of the simultaneous presence of upper gastrointestinal lesions in the patients with colorectal polyp and cancer was suggested. But the relationship between serum gastrin and the development of colorectal polyp and cancer was not documented.
An Experimental Study of the Mean Effective Strain in Rod (or Bar) Rolling Process
Lee, Young Seog,Choi, Sang Woo,Kim, Hee San,Choo, Woong Yong 대한금속재료학회(대한금속학회) 2000 METALS AND MATERIALS International Vol.6 No.6
This paper presents an experimental study that investigates the validity of the analytical model [9] for predicting the mean effective strains associated with bar (or rod) rolling. Designed for this purpose were plate and bar rolling experiments which consist of a four-pass groove (oval and round) rolling sequences, which have material at each pass that experience the same amount of mean effective strain. The microstructure and mechanical behaviors of specimens acquired from two types of rolling experiments at 650℃ were compared. A parallelism between the mechanical behaviors of a plate-rolled specimen and a bar-rolled specimen has been found at each pass. We therefore concluded that the analytical model has the underlying rationale to be used in the analysis of the rod (or bar) rolling process.

Objective: Odontoid fractures are treated surgically through the anterior or posterior approach. Each surgical approach has its advantages and disadvantages, so the preferred approach remains debatable. There are few meta-analyses or systemic reviews on the mechanical complications of surgical treatment for odontoid fractures. This meta-analysis aimed to compare the operation-related morbidity, including mechanical complications, and mortality of patients with odontoid fractures, treated via the anterior or posterior approach. Methods: A systematic search was performed on PubMed/Medline, Embase, and the Cochrane Library for the studies up to October 2023 on the complication rate of the surgical treatment of odontoid fractures, related to the surgical approach. The risk ratios (RR) with the 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were pooled to assess the mechanical complication rates, other complications, revision surgery, and mortality, depending on the surgical approach. Results: A total of 1,519 studies were retrieved using the search strategy, and 782 patients from 15 articles were included in this meta-analysis. Mechanical complications were significantly more frequent in the anterior surgical group with low heterogeneity. The incidences of fracture nonunion and revision surgery were also higher in the anterior surgery group. However, there was no significant difference in systemic complications and mortality rates between the two groups. Conclusion: The posterior approach was more advantageous than the anterior approach in terms of mechanical complications, fusion rates, and incidence of revision surgery. However, further studies, should be performed to strengthen these results.
