        Formation of MgCO3 3H2O in the CO2 mineralization system using Mg (OH)2 as an intermediate at 20 C

        The formation of MgCO3 3H2O in the CO2 mineralization system was investigated using Mg(OH)2 as anintermediate at 20 C. Liquid and solid analyses were done for qualitative and quantitative compositioncharacterizations of the reacted samples. Results showed that the morphology of Mg(OH)2 had anobvious effect on the growth rate, size and morphology of MgCO3 3H2O. The formation of MgCO3 3H2Omight be explained by the dissolution–recrystallization mechanism. Larger bundle-like MgCO3 3H2Owhich composed of middle-binding rod crystals was obtained from the plate-like Mg(OH)2. Thesefindings could pave the way for controllable crystallization of MgCO3 3H2O in a CO2 mineralizationsystem.

        Seismic Performance and Failure Mechanism of a Subway Station Based on Nonlinear Finite Element Analysis

        A nonlinear three-dimensional finite element model is employed to investigate the seismic performance and failure mechanism of a subway station. The interaction between subway station and surrounding soil is considered and the nonlinear behavior of the station structure is taken into account. Structural concrete and steel bars are simulated separately. The results demonstrated that the carrying capacities of structural middle columns and wall-to-roof slab connections are vital in underground structure’s seismic design. During an earthquake, the structure’s plastic damage first appears at beam-to-roof slab connections; but the damage at beam-to-roof slab connections does not develop significantly as seismic going. The heaviest damage parts is columns’ bottom, and then is columns’ top. The damage of wall-to-slab connections can, firstly, let the load transfer to columns and, secondly, reduce the restraint to the roof slab. The relative displacement between the roof slab and bottom slab leads to additional moment on structural middle columns. Besides, the damage at the connections of walls-to-diagonal bracings and slabs-to-diagonal bracings is remarkable. The structure is failure as an italic “M” shape. The results are consistent with the phenomena observed in the collapse of Daikai subway station during 1995 Great Hanshin Earthquake.

        A double-labeling marker-based method for estimating inbreeding and parental genomic components in a population under conservation

        Objective: The objective of a conservation program is to maintain maximum genetic diversity and preserve the viability of a breed. However, the efficiency of a program is influenced by the ability to accurately measure and predict genetic diversity. Methods: To examine this question, we conducted a simulation in which common measures (i.e. heterozygosity) and novel measures (identity-by-descent probabilities and parental genomic components) were used to estimate genetic diversity within a conserved population using double-labeled single nucleotide polymorphism markers. Results: The results showed that the accuracy and sensitivity of identity-by-state probabilities and heterozygosity were close to identity by descent (IBD) probabilities, which reflect the true genetic diversity. Expected heterozygosity most closely aligned with IBD. All common measures suggested that practices used in the current Chinese pig conservation program result in a ~5% loss in genetic diversity every 10 generations. Parental genomic components were also analyzed to monitor real-time changes in genomic components for each male and female ancestor. The analysis showed that ~7.5% of male families and ~30% of female families were lost every 5 generations. After 50 generations of simulated conservation, 4 male families lost ~50% of their initial genomic components, and the genomic components for 24.8% of the female families were lost entirely. Conclusion: In summary, compared with the true genetic diversity value obtained using double-labeled markers, expected heterozygosity appears to be the optimal indicator. Parental genomic components analysis provides a more detailed picture of genetic diversity and can be used to guide conservation management practices.

        Automated Runway Groove Measurement and Evaluation

        Grooves are frequently used on airport runways to address safety concerns by improving frictional properties and drainage capacity during wet weather. Groove performance deteriorates over time mostly due to traffic loading, accordingly periodic measurement and evaluation of groove dimensions are important for runway to maintain adequate frictional properties and avoid hydroplaning risks. However, such evaluation is difficult to perform due to lack of sufficient technologies to identify shallow and abrasive or worn grooves. This paper proposes new methodologies for automatic airport groove identification, measurement, and evaluation using high resolution texture data collected by point laser based profiling equipment developed by Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Euler-Bernoulli beam filter and geometry contour based algorithms are developed to locate dips within a profile for potential groove identification. Subsequently improved moving average filter, forward and backward traversal methods are implemented to determine the starting and ending positions of each dip. Finally groove dimensions are computed per the FAA AC No. 150/5320-12C. The algorithm performance of the proposed method is evaluated based on Precision-Recall (PR) graphs with that of the FAA ProGroove software. Results indicate that the proposed methodology is more robust and accurate in runway groove identification. With the proposed method, operators of airfield runway pavements have a robust tool set to access groove performance and provide corrective maintenance actions.

        Combination of Curcumin and Paclitaxel-loaded Solid Lipid Nanoparticles to Overcome Multidrug Resistance

        Multi-drug resistance (MDR) has been known as a major hurdle in cancer chemotherapy. One of the most clinically significant causes of MDR was the efflux of anticancer agents mediated by p-glycoprotein (p-gp) over-expressed in MDR cancer cells. To overcome MDR, there have been several strategies such as co-administration with p-gp inhibitors and encapsulation of anticancer drugs into drug delivery systems. In the present study, curcumin was evaluated for its potential as p-gp inhibitor and MDR reversal activity when combined with paclitaxel incorporated into lipid nanoparticles (PTX/LN). Western blot assay showed curcumin did not modulate the level of p-gp expression in MCF-7/ADR which is a MDR variant of human breast cancer cell line, MCF-7, and over-expresses p-gp. However, curcumin inhibited p-gp-mediated efflux of calcein in a dose-dependent manner even though it showed lower activity compared to verapamil, a well-known p-gp inhibitor. Incorporation of paclitaxel into lipid nanoparticles partially recovered the anticancer activity of paclitaxel in MCF-7/ADR. The combined use of curcumin and PTX/LN exhibited further full reversal of MDR, suggesting susceptibility of PTX/LN to the efflux system. In conclusion, combined approach of using p-gp inhibitors and incorporation of the anticancer agents into nano-delivery systems would be an efficient strategy to overcome MDR.

        現代漢語“越X,越Y”構式中形容詞詞彙語義制約條件研究

        Based on the theory of the interaction between construction meaning and lexical meaning, this paper makes a full exploration on the semantic features of adjectives behind “yue” and the correlative lexical semantic constraints on “yue X, yue Y” construction through an authentic investigation of 1335 Mandarin Chinese adjectives with proofs from CCL corpus, BCC corpus and Baidu website. From a perspective of the quantitative property of adjectives, it is explored that the constraints on lexical semantic features of adjectives behind “yue” with methods of semantic analysis and formal standards, and this research is validated by quantitative statistics. The compatibility between the lexical semantic features of the adjectives and the construction meaning is investigated in order to reveal the relationship between syntactic realization and lexical semantic projection of predicates on basis of linguistic facts. After research, it is found that the most important factor influencing Mandarin Chinese adjectives to occur in “yue X, yue Y” construction is their quantitative range---both adjectives with no quantitative range or small quantitative range can not be applied as predicates behind “yue” and almost all adjectives with relatively large quantitative range can serve as predicates behind “yue”. As for negative forms of adjectives behind “yue”, the same rule works so that the negetive forms of adjectives with large quantitative range can occur in “yue X, yue Y” construction, whereas those with no flexible quantitative range can not. This paper will not only help to improve and enrich the research of “yue X, yue Y” construction, but also gives a considerable insight on syntax-semantics interface of Mandarin Chinese through reliable statistical data of linguistic proofs.

        Learning Similarity with Probabilistic Latent Semantic Analysis for Image Retrieval

        It is a challenging problem to search the intended images from a large number of candidates. Content based image retrieval (CBIR) is the most promising way to tackle this problem, where the most important topic is to measure the similarity of images so as to cover the variance of shape, color, pose, illumination etc. While previous works made significant progresses, their adaption ability to dataset is not fully explored. In this paper, we propose a similarity learning method on the basis of probabilistic generative model, i.e., probabilistic latent semantic analysis (PLSA). It first derives Fisher kernel, a function over the parameters and variables, based on PLSA. Then, the parameters are determined through simultaneously maximizing the log likelihood function of PLSA and the retrieval performance over the training dataset. The main advantages of this work are twofold: (1) deriving similarity measure based on PLSA which fully exploits the data distribution and Bayes inference; (2) learning model parameters by maximizing the fitting of model to data and the retrieval performance simultaneously. The proposed method (PLSA-FK) is empirically evaluated over three datasets, and the results exhibit promising performance.

        Study on the Phase and Bath Electrochemical Properties in Electrodeposition of ZnS Film

        ZnS does nearly not absorb sun light, it is the most suitable buffer layer material in solar cell. For preparing ZnS film withlow cost, the bath electrochemical performance and the effect of deposition potential on the phase of ZnS films prepared byelectrodeposition were studied under different electrodeposition conditions. The phases and morphology of product films wereinvestigated by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscope respectively. Experimental results show that, it was moreconducive to achieve co-deposition using the constant potential method. Compared with thiourea, it is easier to achieve codepositionfor ZnS. ZnS phase can be obtained under −1.0 ~ −1.6 V. When the deposition potential increased, the (100) crystalplane of the highest XRD peak of ZnS phase changed as (101) crystal plane. Well crystallized, dense and uniform ZnS filmcan be obtained under conditions of sodium citrate as complexing agent, sodium thiosulfate as sulfur source, ion ratio of Zincand Sulfide 1 : 5 and −1.2 V.

        现代汉语“越X,越Y”构式中动词词汇语义制约条件研究

        “越X,越Y”构式作为现代汉语的常见构式之一,一直备受学界关注。目前学界在句法、语义、历时研究、跨语言研究等方面都取得了一定的成果,但是对于该构式中谓词的词汇语义特征,研究薄弱,尚待进一步探究。针对前人的研究的不足,本文以构式意义和词汇意义的互动关系为理论基础,分析“越”后动词的语义特征,旨在探索“越X,越Y”构式中的词汇语义制约条件。 本文从动词的量性特征出发,采取语义分析结合形式标准的方法,探究“越”后谓词成分的词汇语义特征的制约条件,并结合定量统计进行验证,在全面考察1003个现代汉语常用动词的基础上,以语言事实为支撑探究该构式的词汇语义特征与其构式意义的相容性,揭示句法实现与谓词的词汇语义投射之间的关系。 经过研究,本文发现影响动词充当“越”后成分的最重要的因素是与时间量相关的终点确定性特征。具有明确的[+telic]特征的动词基本无法充当“越”后成分。具有[-telic]特征的动词可充当“越”后成分,[-telic]特征越明确,充当“越”后成分的能力越强,但总体都保持在较高水平。动词的其他量性特征如动作的反复量、空间量、性状程度量,动词否定式表达的主观量特征和性状程度量,以及动补成分和动词直接宾语的[+count]属性对动词短语终点确定性特征的影响,也会制约动词充当“越”后成分的能力。
