Background and Purpose: Cisplatin is the most common chemotherapeutic agent for loco-regionally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC); however, toxicity is a limiting factor for some patients. We retrospectively compared the efficacy and toxicity of weekly docetaxel-based and cisplatin-based concurrent chemoradiotherapy in loco-regionally advanced NPC. Methods and Materials: Eighty-four patients with Stage III and IVA-B NPCs, treated between 2007 and 2008, were retrospectively analyzed. Thirty received weekly docetaxel-based concurrent chemotherapy, and 43 were given weekly cisplatin-based concurrent chemotherapy. Radiotherapy was administered using a conventional technique (seven weeks, 2.0 Gy per fraction, total dose 70-74 Gy) with 6-8 Gy boosts for some patients with locally advanced disease. Results: Median follow-up time was 42.3 months (range, 8.6-50.8 months). There were no significant differences in the 3-year loco-regional failure-free survival (85.6% vs. 92.3%; p=0.264), distant failure-free survival (87.0% vs. 92.5%; p=0.171), progression-free survival (85.7% vs. 88.4%; p=0.411) or overall survival (86.5% vs. 92.5%, p=0.298) of patients treated concurrently with docetaxel or cisplatin. Severe toxicity was not common in either group. Conclusions: Weekly docetaxel-based concurrent chemoradiotherapy is potentially effective and has a tolerable toxicity; however, further investigations are required to determine if docetaxel is superior to cisplatin for advanced stage NPC.

Objective: To observe local and systemic toxicity after sustained-release 5-fluorouracil (5-Fu) implantation in canine peritoneum and para-aortic abdominalis and the changes of drug concentration in the local implanted tissue with time. Methods: 300 mg sustained-release 5-Fu was implanted into canine peritoneum and para-aorta abdominalis. Samples were taken 3, 5, 7 and 10 days after implantation for assessment of changes and systemic reactions. High performance liquid chromatography was applied to detect the drug concentrations of peritoneal tissue at different distances from the implanted site, lymphatic tissue of para-aortic abdominalis, peripheral blood and portal venous blood. Results: 10 days after implantation, the drug concentrations in the peritoneum, lymphatic tissue and portal vein remained relatively high within 5 cm of the implanted site. There appeared inflammatory reaction in the local implanted tissue, but no visible pathological changes such as cell degeneration and necrosis, and systemic reaction like anorexia, nausea, vomiting and fever. Conclusions: Sustained-release 5-Fu implantation in canine peritoneum and para-aortic abdominalis can maintain a relatively high tumour-inhibiting concentration for a longer time in the local implanted area and portal vein, and has mild local and systemic reactions. Besides, it is safe and effective to prevent or treat recurrence of gastrointestinal tumours and liver metastasis.

Complexes M($C_7H_2NO_5)3H_2O{\cdot}H_2O{\cdot}0.25MeCN$ (M=Ni, Co) were crystallized from the reactions of $Ni(CH_3COO)_2{\cdot}4H_2O\;or\;Co(CH_3COO)_2{\cdot}2H_2O$ with KSCN and 2,6-dicarboxy-4-hydroxypyridine (chelidamic acid). The structures were characterized by X-ray crystallography. The crystal structures of 1 and 2 show a distorted octahedral coordination geometry around the M(II) ions, which are chelated by one nitrogen atom and two oxygen atoms of the chelidamic acid and three water molecules. Complexes 1 and 2 display the hydrogen-bonded 3D framework. The magnetic behavior of 2 exhibits antiferromagnetic interaction.

By acid polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (A-PAGE) analysis,it was indicated that the electrophoresis mobility of gliadins from Crithopsis delileana (Schult) Roshev (2n=2x=14,KK) had obvious difference with those from common wheat in α, γ and ω region. Using homologous primers, two γ-gliadin genes (gli-Kr1 and gli-Kr2) were isolated from C. delileana, which had been deposited in the GenBank under accession numbers EU283818 and EU283821, respectively. Two γ-gliadin genes of C. delileana had the similar primary structures to the corresponding gene sequences from other wheat related species. The differences were mainly resulted from substitutions, insertions and deletions involving single amino acid residues or motifs of γ-gliadins. The repetitive domains of gli-Kr1 and gli-Kr2 from C. delileana are shorter than most of other sequences. By the alignment of γ-gliadin genes from A, B, D, Am, Au, S, Sl, Ssh, Ss and Sb genomes of Triticum and Aegilops, R genome of Secale (γ-secalin), Ee genome of Lophopyrum and K genome of Crithopsis in Triticeae, phylogenetic analysis indicated that two γ-gliadin genes of C. delileana could be clustered together with a γ-gliadin genefrom Ssh genome of Aegilops by an interior paralleled branch. It was the first time that the γ-gliadin genes encoded by K genome of C. delileana were characterized. These could offer precious information for better understanding the qualities associated with gliadins, the response in coeliac disease and studying the evolutionary relationship of gliadins in Triticeae.

The energetically stable tetragonal nonstoichiometric La2/3Sr1/3MnO3/BiCoO3 (LSMO/BCO) interface, whose chemical formula is (BiO)3(CoO2)4/(LaO)3(SrO)1(MnO2)3, was investigated by using first-principle calculations. A magnetoelectric coupling effect, i.e., an electric control of the magnetism, was approved by a maximum variation of 17.9% in magnetic moments tuned by the electric polarization reversal. The interfacial coupling was controlled by the polar shifts of the interfacial Co and/or O atoms. A huge variation in spin-polarization from 6.3% to 72.7% was achieved upon switching the electric polarization. These findings are useful for magnetoelectric coupled spintronic device applications.

The mining of protective coal seams can cause changesin geostress, leading to changes in the permeability of coal rock and creatingfavorable conditions for gas extraction from coal seams. Atthe Haishiwan Coal Mine, field tests using remote protective coalseam mining were performed in the protected layer, which is richin CO2 gas. In remote protective longwall mining, the permeabilityand composition of extracted stress-relief gas can vary. Under theconditions of remote protective longwall mining, the permeabilityof a protected coal seam can be generally described by the Liumodel. During protective layer mining, the permeability of theprotective layer increases rapidly with the release of stress, thendecreases gradually with the recovery of the geostress. However, matrix shrinkage and decreased pore pressure caused by CO2 desorptionfrom coal seams also cannot be ignored when considering thefactors that affect the permeability. Thus, it is necessary to appropriatelyconfigure the cross-measure boreholes in advance to drainthe stress-relief gas during remote protective layer mining. StressreliefCO2 gas extraction presents multiple consecutive peaks. TheNo. 2 coal seam has different trap pressure systems as CO2 migratesinto the coal seam. The protected seam experiences different effectivestresses during protective layer mining, and the permeabilitiesappear to periodically increase due to differences in the originalpermeability. The various permeability and diffusion coefficientsfor CO2 and CH4 in coal induce CO2 and CH4 fractionation in theroof and floor of the No. 2 coal seam.
A 4th-Order Wideband Sigma Delta Modulator Using Linear System Theory Technique
Ming-yuan Ren,Yong-sheng Zhang,Wei-kun Wu,Zhen-xi Bao,Zi-wei Zhao,Chao Li,Hong-guo Zhang 보안공학연구지원센터 2016 International Journal of Signal Processing, Image Vol.9 No.1
A 4th-Order Wideband Sigma Delta modulator structure is proposed in this paper, which uses linear system theory technique. There are many implementation techniques to improve the performance of Sigma Delta ADCs, such as noise coupling, differential sampling and dynamic elements matching. An extra loop delay is needed to be added in the system. This paper explains how to make the modulator stable with the addition of feed-forward and feed-back branches which are used to compensate the extra loop delay. Next, we restore the signal and noise transfer functions. A 4th-Order Wideband delta-sigma modulator have been designed and simulated to verify the method.

Objective: Interspinous spacer (ISS)-based and pedicle screw-rod dynamic fixator (PDF)- based topping-off devices have been applied in lumbar/lumbosacral fusion surgeries for preventing the development of proximal adjacent segment degeneration. However, little attention has been paid to sacroiliac joint (SIJ), which belongs to the adjacent joints. Accordingly, the objective of this study was to compare how these 2 topping-off devices affect the SIJ biomechanics. Methods: A validated, normal finite-element lumbopelvic model (L3–pelvis) was initially adjusted to simulate interbody fusion with rigid fixation at the L5–S1 level, and then the DIAM or BioFlex system was instrumented at the L4–5 level to establish the ISS-based or PDF-based topping-off model, respectively. All the developed models were loaded with moments of 4 physiological motions using hybrid loading protocol. Results: Compared with the rigid fusion model (without topping-off devices), range of motion and von-Mises stress at the SIJs were increased by 23.1%–64.1% and 23.6%–62.8%, respectively, for the ISS-based model and by 51.2%–126.7% and 50.4%–108.7%, respectively, for the PDF-based model. Conclusion: The obtained results suggest that the PDF-based topping-off device leads to higher increments in SIJ motion and stress than ISS-based topping-off device following lumbosacral fusion, implying topping-off technique could be linked to an increased risk of SIJ degeneration, especially when using PDF-based device.
Percutaneous Osteoplasty for the Management of a Femoral Head Metastasis: a Case Report
Wei-Guo Wang,Chun-Gen Wu,Yi-Feng Gu,Ming-Hua Li 대한영상의학회 2009 Korean Journal of Radiology Vol.10 No.6
Percutaneous osteoplasty (POP) as a technical extension of percutaneous vertebroplasty (PVP) has been used to treat malignant disease that affects the skeletal system. POP has demonstrated good outcome for pain relief and functional improvement. Few studies have reported on the efficiency of POP to treat malignancies located in the femoral head. We designed a pilot study with the use of POP to treat intractable pain caused by a femoral head metastatic tumor in a 43-year-old man. During the follow-up period, the patient experienced sustained pain relief and improvement of quality of life that persisted for more than three months.
