Right-to-Left Displacement of an Airgun Lead Bullet after Transorbital Entry into the Skull Complicated by Posttraumatic Epilepsy : A Case Report

        Chao-bin Wang,Hui Wang,Jun-shuang Zhao,Ze-jun Wu,Hao-dong Liu,Chao-jia Wang,An-rong Li,Dawei Wang,Juntao Hu 대한신경외과학회 2023 Journal of Korean neurosurgical society Vol.66 No.5

Penetrating head injury is a serious open cranial injury. In civilians, it is often caused by non-missile, low velocity flying objects that penetrate the skull through a weak cranial structure, forming intracranial foreign bodies. The intracranial foreign body can be displaced due to its special quality, shape, and location. In this paper, we report a rare case of right-to-left displacement of an airgun lead bullet after transorbital entry into the skull complicated by posttraumatic epilepsy, as a reminder to colleagues that intracranial metal foreign bodies maybe displaced intraoperatively. In addition, we have found that the presence of intracranial metallic foreign bodies may be a factor for the posttraumatic epilepsy, and their timely removal appears to be beneficial for epilepsy control.

Analysis of thermal conductivity in HI-LEDs lighting materials

Rong-Tsu Wang,Jung-Chang Wang 대한기계학회 2017 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.31 No.6

The present study devised a measurement system to estimate the thermal conductivity of electronic product materials, especially in HILEDslighting materials, exhibiting distinct thermal characteristics by conducting thermal performance experiments and theoreticalanalyses. First, steady-state conduction analysis with thermal resistance method was investigated on three composite material substratesof unknown heat conduction coefficients through a substrate material named Bakelite of low thermal conductivity revealing stable quality. Second, one-dimension semi-infinite transient conduction analysis was utilized to investigate metal materials with high thermal conductivities. Results showed that the Bakelite experimental module was verified for 62.5 % of the original wattages, which closest to thethermal conductivity 0.233 W/m-K of the Bakelite. And these composite materials M1, M2 and M3 composed of polymer and epoxywere 1.311, 0.844 and 2.403 W/m-K, respectively. The thermal performance experiments were investigated and the results have provedthe correctness of the theoretical model. According to the experimental results, calculating the temperature value of the metal materialscomprising cotton insulation and the transient analysis, this study determined the temperature error to be less 20 %. Consequently, a transientmeasurement system and method for metal materials with high heat conduction coefficients was established. Finally, the results ofthis work are the useful thermal conductivity method to facilitate rapid analysis in the future.

Effect of Bond Linkage on In vitro Drug Release and Anti-HIV Activity of Chitosan-Stavudine Conjugates

        Rong Zeng,Renzhong Qiao,Zehu Wang,Hongran Wang,Liqiang Chen,Lin Yang,Liming Hu,Zelin Li 한국고분자학회 2012 Macromolecular Research Vol.20 No.4

Two kinds of chitosan-stavudine (d4T) conjugates, chitosan-O-isopropyl-5'-O-d4T monophosphate conjugate (Cs-P-d4T) with a phosphoramide linkage and chitosan-5'-O-succinyl-d4T conjugate (Cs-S-d4T) with a succinic spacer, were synthesized using an Atherton-Todd reaction and carbodiimide coupling reaction, respectively, and then structurally characterized. Their in vitro drug release behaviors and anti-human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) activity were investigated and compared. Both of the chitosan-d4T conjugates more strongly prefer to release corresponding d4T derivatives rather than free d4T in a prolonged manner but have different hydrolysis routes. The anti-HIV activity and cytotoxicity evaluated in the MT4 cell line revealed that the anti-HIV selectivity index was in the following order: Cs-P-d4T > d4T >> Cs-S-d4T since the released d4T-5'-(O-isopropyl) monophosphate from Cs-P-d4T can bypass the rate-limiting bottleneck of nucleoside phosphorylation, while the released 5'-O-succinyl-d4T from Cs-Sd4T has to be hydrolyzed to d4T and then successively phosphorylated to its active form to exert antiviral activity. The results suggested that constructing a chitosan-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NRTI) conjugate with a phosphoramide linkage may be an efficient approach for improving NRTI therapy efficacy in antiretroviral treatment.

Gender-role Attitudes and Women's Decision on Employment : An Example of Taiwan

Wang, Lih-Rong 숙명여자대학교 아세아여성문제연구소 2003 Asian Women Vol.16 No.-

This paper explores Taiwan women's gender-role attitudes and their impact on their decisions to join the labor force. The research was conducted by face-to-face interviews through structured questionnaires. 505 women in the north part of Taiwan were interviewed. The test of gender-role attitudes consisted of three measurements including: The appropriateness of employment in their child-bearing age. Women's attitudes toward men being the breadwinners, and women the homemakers. Women's attitudes toward gender role divisions in the family. The findings state women's decisions regarding employment are highly associated with women's gender role ideology, and the data further indicate that Taiwanese women still maintain strong traditional gender role perspectives, an attitude that maintains women's appropriate role is in the home, particularly for women who are at the age of child-bearing.

Photothermal Therapy of Copper Incorporated Nanomaterials for Biomedicine

        Rong Wang,Ziwei Huang,Yunxiao Xiao,Tao Huang,Jie Ming 한국생체재료학회 2023 생체재료학회지 Vol.27 No.00

Studies have reported on the significance of copper incorporated nanomaterials (CINMs) in cancer theranostics and tissue regeneration. Given their unique physicochemical properties and tunable nanostructures, CINMs are used in photothermal therapy (PTT) and photothermal-derived combination therapies. They have the potential to overcome the challenges of unsatisfactory efficacy of conventional therapies in an efficient and non-invasive manner. This review summarizes the recent advances in CINMs-based PTT in biomedicine. First, the classification and structure of CINMs are introduced. CINMs-based PTT combination therapy in tumors and PTT guided by multiple imaging modalities are then reviewed. Various representative designs of CINMs-based PTT in bone, skin and other organs are presented. Furthermore, the biosafety of CINMs is discussed. Finally, this analysis delves into the current challenges that researchers face and offers an optimistic outlook on the prospects of clinical translational research in this field. This review aims at elucidating on the applications of CINMs-based PTT and derived combination therapies in biomedicine to encourage future design and clinical translation.

The Yellow Sea Warm Current and the Yellow Sea Cold Bottom Water, Their Impact on the Distribution of Zooplankton in the Southern Yellow Sea

Rong Wang,Tao Zuo 한국해양과학기술원 2004 Ocean science journal Vol.39 No.1

The Yellow Sea Warm Current (YSWC) and the Yellow Sea Cold Bottom Water (YSCBW) are two protruding features, which have strong influence on the community structure and distribution of zooplankton in the Yellow Sea. Both of them are seasonal phenomena. In winter, strong north wind drives southward flow at the surface along both Chinese and Korean coasts, which is compensated by a northward flow along the Yellow Sea Trough. That is the YSWC. It advects warmer and saltier water from the East China Sea into the southern Yellow Sea and changes the zooplankton community structure greatly in winter. During a cruise after onset of the winter monsoon in November 2001 in the southern Yellow Sea, 71 zooplankton species were identified, among which 39 species were tropical, accounting for 54.9 %, much more than those found in summer. Many of them were typical for Kuroshio water, e.g. Eucalanus subtenuis, Rhincalanus cornutus, Pareuchaeta russelli, Lucicutia flavicornis, and Euphausia diomedeae etc. 26 species were warm-temperate accounting for 36.6% and 6 temperate 8.5%. The distribution pattern of the warm water species clearly showed the impact of the YSWC and demonstrated that the intrusion of warmer and saltier water happened beneath the surface northwards along the Yellow Sea Trough. The YSCBW is a bottom pool of the remnant Yellow Sea Winter Water resulting from summer stratification and occupy most of the deep area of the Yellow Sea. The temperature of YSCBW temperature remains ≤10oC in mid-summer. It is served as an oversummering site for many temperate species, like Calanus sinicus and Euphaisia pacifica. Calanus sinicus is a dominant copepod in the Yellow Sea and East China Sea and can be found throughout the year with the year maximum in May to June. In summer it disappears in the coastal area and in the upper layer of central area due to the high temperature and shrinks its distribution into YSCBW.

Random vibration of multispan Timoshenko frames due to a moving load

        Wang, Rong-Tyai,Lin, Jin-Sheng Techno-Press 1998 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.6 No.6

In this paper, an analytic method to examine the random vibration of multispan Timoshenko frames due to a concentrated load traversing at a constant velocity is presented. A load's magnitude is a stationary process in time with a constant mean value and a variance. Two types of variances of this load are considered: white noise process and cosine process. The effects of both velocity and statistical characteristics of load and span number of the frame on both the mean value and variance of deflection and moment of the structure are investigated. Results obtained from a multispan Timoshenko frame are compared with those of a multispan Bernoulli-Euler frame.

Effect of the reaction temperature on nanocrystallites MgAl2O4 spinel ceramic precursor

        Rong-tao Wang,Ying Peng,Xiao-wei Fan,Jian-xin Li,Xiao-ping Liang 한양대학교 세라믹연구소 2009 Journal of Ceramic Processing Research Vol.10 No.6

Mg-Al hydrotalcite (Mg6Al2(OH)16CO3·4H2O), the precursor of MgAl2O4 spinel, has been synthesized via a coprecipitation method, using AlCl3·6H2O and MgCl2·6H2O as the raw materials, and NaOH and Na2CO3 as the precipitators. The effect of the reaction temperature, from 50℃ to 90℃, on the Mg-Al hydrotalcite nanocrystallites was analyzed. The nanocrystallites were studied by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). It was confirmed that Mg-Al hydrotalcite nanocrystallites are pure and regularly hexagonal, having a typical hydrotalcite structure. The Mg-Al hydrotalcite crystals grow from about 30 nm to 100 nm with an increase in the reaction temperature from 50℃ to 90 ℃, and the crystal form also tends to perfect and regularly hexagonal.
