The trematodes of Genus Nasitrema are the most common infection in the heads of small odontocetes. Five species of Nasitrema have been described in Asia. But those parasites has been not surveyed in the East Sea of Korean peninsula. There are no evidence of pathology associated with Nasitrema attenuate. To determine the infection ratio of N. attenuata in the dolphin, it was surveyed 9 long-beaked common dolphin, Delphinus capensis, caught incidentally from Samcheok to Pohang, East Sea, Korea. Five males and four females, estimated to be between 1 to 10 years old, were examined. The quantity of N. attenuata harvested by aspiration from pterygoid sinuses ranged from 10 to 100 with a 100% (9/9) infection with older dolphins exhibiting higher parasite counts. The body of trematoda was elongated with tegumental patches resembling the leaves of lilies and oral sucker located ventrally at the anterior terminal. Esophagus was absent and intestinal bifurcation arose immediately from the posterior of pharynx. The undulated intestinal caeca transversed the entire body and terminated at the posterior extremity of the worm. The genital pore opened anterior to the ventral sucker. This report confirms the prevalence and morphology of N. attenuata in the dolphins from the East Sea, Korea.
Pd–P Hydrogenation Catalyst: Nanoparticle Nature and Surface Layer State
Lyudmila B. Belykh,Nikita I. Skripov,Tatyana P. Sterenchuk,Vitaliy A. Umanets,Fedor K. Schmidt 성균관대학교(자연과학캠퍼스) 성균나노과학기술원 2016 NANO Vol.11 No.6
The Pd–P selective catalyst for liquid-phase hydrogenation of o-chloronitrobenzene (o-CNB) was obtained by the reduction of Pd(acac)2 with hydrogen at 80℃ in the presence of white phosphorus (P/Pd=1) in N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF). It has been shown [(high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD)] that such low-temperature synthesis of the Pd–P catalyst affords nanoparticles of palladium phosphides (Pd5P2, PdP2), the Pd5P2 phosphide being prevailing. On the nanoparticle surface, palladium is present as a phosphide (BE (Pd3d5/2)=336.2 eV; BE (P2p3/2)=130 eV) and as palladium clusters of 1 nm in diameter. The formation of the Pd–P catalyst proceeds through a number of stages: a redox process between Pd(acac)2 and white phosphorus affording mainly PdP2 nanoparticles, H3PO3 and acacH; next follows the reduction of unreacted Pd(acac)2 with hydrogen at 80℃ and the reaction of Pd(0) atoms with each other and with PdP2. It is assumed that formation of small palladium clusters on the surface of the Pd5P2 nanoparticles ensures the high selectivity of the Pd–P catalyst in the o-CNB hydrogenation.
A case of nonserotypable Escherichia coli infection in a Korean rabbit farm
Camer, Gerry A.,Roh, Yoon-Seok,Cho, A-Ra,Kim, Jong-Won,Umanets, Alexander,Kim, Bum-Seok,Lim, Suk-Kyung,Lee, Hee-Soo,Lim, Chae-Woong The Korean Society of Veterinary Service 2012 韓國家畜衛生學會誌 Vol.35 No.1
Rabbits are highly susceptible to colibacillosis, and no treatment is able to control the disease effectively. Rabbits raised in a farm in Chonbuk province presenting persistent diarrhea and death were submitted for diagnosis. Ninety percent of the infected animals died; weanlings suffered the most mortality. Necropsies showed prominent hemorrhagic foci along the intestinal and cecal serosae. In histopathological examination, rod-shaped bacteria were observed in the necrotic areas of the tips of villi in the small intestine and neutrophils infiltration was found around the necrotic villous areas. The affected animals consistently yielded Escherichia coli isolates from the intestines. The isolated organism was atypically indole-negative and was nonserotypable using 62 known O group-typing sera. Further microbiological and epidemiological works to recognize and control colibacillosis infection in farmed rabbits in Korea is therefore critical.
