Predicting Financial Distress Distribution of Companies

Purpose: Predicting the financial distress distribution of an enterprise is important to warn enterprises about their future. Predicting the possibility of financial distress helps companies have action plans to avoid the possibility of bankruptcy. In this study, the author conducted a forecast of the financial distress distribution of enterprises. Research design, data and methodology: The forecasting method is based on Logit and Discriminant analysis models. The data was collected from companies listed on Vietnam Stock Exchange from 2012 to 2020. In which there are both companies suffer from financial distress and non-financial distress. Results: The forecast analysis results show that the Logistic model has better predictability than the Discriminant analysis model. At the same time, the results also indicate three main factors affecting the financial distress of enterprises at all three research stages: (1) Liquidity, (2) Interest payment, and (3) firm size. In addition, at each stage, the impact of factors on financial distress differs. Conclusions: From the results of this study, the author also made several recommendations to help companies better control company operations to avoid falling into financial distress. Adjustments to current assets, debt, and company expansion considerations are the most important factors for companies.

The goal of the study is to examine and assess how the factors of logistics service quality provided by logistics service providers influence customer loyalty and satisfaction in Vietnam. This study employs samples of the Kansei technique. The article’s data was gathered through an online survey of 388 distinct Vietnamese customers who used logistics services before and during the Covid-19 outbreak. After the data was obtained, it was evaluated using SmartPLS 3.0’s Cronbach’s Alpha test and structural equation model (SEM). Staff service quality, operational service quality, and technical service quality are the three factors that determine the quality of logistics services in the study. Out of the 10 proposed hypotheses, research findings show that five are acceptable. The Covid-19 Pandemic in Vietnam had a significant impact on all dimensions, but it had no effect on how satisfied customers were with the logistics service providers. Nevertheless, loyalty is considerably influenced by only one factor, which is customer satisfaction, and customer trust moderates the relationship between these two factors. As a consequence of that, several managerial implications have been proposed to help logistics service providers improve their services to attract and keep Vietnamese customers using their service in the long term.
Synthesis of oxime from a renewable resource for metal extraction

A new method for semi-synthesis of alkyl salicylaldoximes from cardanol is reported. Cardanol was extracted from decarboxylation process of cashew nutshell liquid, an abundant agricultural by-product. Molecular structures, physical and chemical properties of cardanol and oxime derivatives were confirmed by spectroscopic analyses. The produced oximes were successfully employed to extract copper(II) cation from aqueous copper salt solutions, offering a practical and economical pathway to effectively recover metals using agricultural by-products.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>In this study, a novel Fe(II) immobilized chitosan/alginate composite (Fe-Chitoal) was prepared via a simple crosslinking reaction to activate persulfate (PS) to degrade bisphenol A (BPA). The newly synthesized Fe-Chitoal was characterized by scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, which indicated that Fe was successfully imprinted into the composite. The PS/Fe-Chitoal system demonstrated a much higher removal efficiency of BPA (99.5%) than the conventional PS/Fe(II) system (69.2%) with a negligible amount of Fe ions released into the solution. The effects of different experimental conditions, including the concentration of PS, concentration of Fe-Chitoal, and pH, on the removal of BPA were also investigated. The removal rate increased with increasing amounts of PS and Fe-Chitoal, and a high removal efficiency was maintained at a pH of 2–10. The PS/Fe-Chitoal system was rarely affected by high concentrations of anions (Cl<SUP>−</SUP>, SO<SUB>4</SUB> <SUP>2−</SUP>, NO<SUB>3</SUB> <SUP>−</SUP>, and HCO<SUB>3</SUB> <SUP>−</SUP>), and the composite catalyst could be reused in a synthetic sewage solution. To simply separate the material, a Fe-Chitoal mesh bag was fabricated, which showed a consistent catalytic reactivity toward PS and BPA removal suggesting practical field applications.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Fe(II)-chitosan/alginate composite was fabricated to activate persulfate. </LI> <LI> The material showed a higher removal of bisphenol A than Fe(II) with persulfate. </LI> <LI> The released Fe ions was readsorbed to the material after reaction with persulfate. </LI> <LI> The system maintained efficiency at wide pH and in the presence of various anions. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

Three ascomycetous soft-rot fungi belonging to the family Xylariaceae were found to produce high levels of a p-nitrophenyl acetate-hydrolyzing activity during growth on lignocellulosic materials, i.e., wheat straw and beech wood chips. Accordingly, Kretzschmaria deusta, Morchella elata, Xylaria polymorpha were seemingly most noteworthy acetyl esterase producers and, of which, X. polymorpha (strain A35) was chosen for further studies. Induction study indicated that raw carbohydrate sources, such as beech wood, rape straw, birch wood, and wheat straw, were extremely important for acetyl esterase production. Acetyl esterase of X. polymorpha was produced in solid-state culture on wheat straw and purified by different steps of anion-exchange and size-exclusion chromatography. This purified enzyme ($M_W=44kDa$ and pI values of 3.5-3.6) exhibited the capability to solubilise in vitro beech wood to release water-soluble lignin fragments with molecular masses of 1-3 kDa as analyzed by high performance size exclusion chromatography.
