감초에서 분리한 각각의 추출물(HWE, ME, AE)을 BALB/c mouse에 투여하여 탐식작용, 용혈반형성, 용혈소 역가특정 및 Rosette형성 실험을 통해 감초가 면역응답에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. 1. 탐식능 측정에서 복강침출세포(PEC)와 비장세포(spleen cell)는 CON군에 비하여 가각의 약물투여군이 Candida parapsilosis에 대한 효과가 약간 높은 경향을 나타냈지만 유의성은 없었다. 2. 용혈반 형성 및 용혈소 역가측정에서는 CON군에 비하여 HWE, ME, AE투여 군이 유의성을 나타냈다. 3. Rosette형성에 대한 측정에서는 CON군에 비하여 ME, AE투여 군이 높은 유의성을 나타냈다. 본 실험 결과에서 감초 추출물들은 Candida paraprapsilosis에 대하여 약간의 탐식증진효과를 나타냈으며, 항체생성세포의 용혈반 시험 및 용혈소 역가측정과 Rosette형성측정에서의 유의성을 나타낸 것은 감초가 세포성 면역을 주도하는 T세포를 활성화시킬 뿐만 아니라, 체액성 면역을 주도하는 B세포를 활성화시킨다는 것을 확인 할 수 있다. The inverstigation of effecting immune response on BALB/c mouse was experimented with hot water extract(HWE), 50% methanol extract(ME) and aaceton extract(AE) 〔which was extracted from Glycyrrhiza glabra〕. The experiment was carried out by phagocytosis, hemolytic plaque assay, hemolysin titration and rosette assay. Peritoneal exudative cells and spleen cells in phagocytosis ability; the experimental group has shown a slight increase in Candida parapsilosis(HWE, ME & AE). The experiment shows no relevant correlation. The experiment of hemolytic plaque assay and hemolysin titration was treated by HWE, ME and AE. The experimental group was treated by ME and AE through the measurement of rosette assay. The experimental group has given significant increase compared with the control. As the result, the extracts of Glycyrrhiza glabra (HWE, ME and AE) has effedted slightly to Cnadida parapsilosis in phagocytosis. The reason of effecting the immunocyte in hemolysin titration, rosette assay and hemolytic plaque assay ; Glycyrrhiza glabra has activated the T-cell which controlled cell mediated immunity. Same with B-cell which could also control humoral immunity.

In this study, the properties of Ag-coated $TiO_2$ nanoparticles were observed, while varying the molar ratio of water and $Ag^+$ for the surfactant and $TiO_2$. According to the XRD results, each nanoparticle showed a distinctive diffraction pattern. The intensity of the respective peaks and the sizes of the nanoparticles increased in the order of AT1($R_1=5$)(33.3 nm), AT2($R_1=10$)(38.1 nm), AT3($R_1=20$)(45.7 nm), AT4($R_1=40$)(48.6 nm) as well as AT5($R_2=0.2$, $R_3=0.5$)(41.4 nm), AT6($R_2=0.3$, $R_3=1$)(45.1 nm), AT7($R_2=0.5$, $R_3=1.5$)(49.3 nm), AT8($R_2=0.7$, $R_3=2$)(57.2 nm), which values were consistent with the results of the UV-Vis. spectrum. The surface resistance of the conductive pastes fabricated using the prepared Ag-coated $TiO_2$ nanoparticles exhibited a range 7.0~9.0($274{\sim}328{\mu}{\Omega}/cm^2$) times that of pure silver paste(ATP)($52{\mu}{\Omega}/cm^2$).
세포브러쉬와 면봉도말법에 의한 부인과 세포학적 검사의 효율비교

A study was undertaken to evaluate the efficiency of the sytobrush compared with the cotton swab for obtaining cells from the uterine cervix. In 300 patients, the cytobrush technique was employed and in control 300 patients was smeared by the cotton swab. In 12 out of 300 patients(4%) endocervical cells were found on the cotton swab technique. A total of 252 out of 300 cytobrush sampler specimen(84%) contained endocervical cells. With the X²method for statistical comparison, the difference in endocervical cell yield between the cotton swab and the cytobrush sampler was significantly different(p<0.01). This was particularly true in older patients. We conclude from study that the cytobrush sampler is of value for obtaining as adequate cervical cytologic specimen.

본 연구에서는 국지성 이상호우에 대한 하천의 치수 안전도를 분석하기 위하며 서울의 도시하천중 지방2급 하천인 홍제천을 연구 대상하천으로 선정하였고, 최근 발생한 이상호우 중에서 서울에 많은 피해를 입힌 2001년 7월 14일${\sim}$15일 강우 310.1mm와 서울지역 가능최대강수량(PMP)740.0mm를 적용 강우로 선정하였다. 홍제천의 치수 안전도를 분석한 결과, 계획빈도인 50년인 경우, 안전단면이 85%, 관리단면이 15%, 위험단면은 발생치 않았으나, 100년 빈도에서 안전단면이 5% 감소하고 관리단면이 4% 위험단면은 2% 증가하였다. 빈도가 증가함에 따라 증감율은 작게 나타났고 200년 빈도 이후에는 관리단면은 거의 변화가 없었으며 위험단면이 다소 증가하여 300년 빈도에서는 50년 빈도에 비해 8%, 500년 빈도에서는 12% 증가하였고 1000년 빈도에서는 위험단면이 19%, 관리단면이 13% 크게 증가하였다. In this study, safety analysis of river in flash flood due to local extraordinary rainfall was conducted for the Hong-Je river, which was selected as a representative sample basin because it is one of the most urbanized rivers in Seoul. The rainfall data of precipitation 310.1 mm and probable maximum precipitation (PMP) 740.0 mm in July $14{\sim}15$, 2001 was used to perform safety analysis. Resulting of safety analysis of the flood control in Hong-Je river, case of the 50 year of design frequency, safety section, management section, and danger section were represented to be 85%, 15%, and 0% respectively. For the 200 year of design frequency, safety section decreased by 6% and management section and danger section increment by 4% and 2%, respectively, The variation of management section was not observed with respect to 200 year of frequency. Little variation of safety value for management section for 300 and 500 of frequency increased by 8% and 12% relative to 50 year of frequency, respectively. management section and danger section for 1000 year of frequency increased by 19% and 13% relative to 50 year of frequency.

We investigated fault current limitation characteristics of the resistive superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) which consisted of a Bi-2212 bulk coil and a shunt coil. The Bi-2212 bulk coil and the shunt coil were connected in parallel. The Bi-2212 bulk coil was placed inside the shunt coil to induce field-assisted quench. The fault test was conducted at an input voltage of 200 Vrms and fault current of 12 ㎄rms and 25 ㎄rms. The fault conditions were asymmetric and symmetric, and the fault period was 5 cycles. The test results show that the SFCL successfully limited the fault current of 12 ㎄rms and 25 ㎄rms to below 5.5 ~ 6.9 ㎄peak within 0.64 ~ 2.17 msec after the fault occurred. Limitation was faster under symmetric fault test condition due to the larger change rate of current. We concluded that the speed of fault current limitation was determined by the speed of current rise rather than the amplitude of a short circuit current. These results show that the Bi-2212 bulk coil is suitable for distribution-class SFCLs.

Background/Aims: We assessed changes in hemodynamic and arterial stiffness parameters following reductions of dialysate calcium concentrations in patients undergoing hemodialysis. Methods: In this prospective study, 20 patients on maintenance hemodialysis (10 females, 10 males) with dialysate calcium concentrations of 1.75 mmol/L were enrolled. At the start of the study, the dialysate calcium level was lowered to 1.50 mmol/L. Serial changes in biochemical, hemodynamic, and arterial stiffness parameters, including pulse wave velocity (PWV) and augmentation index (AIx), were assessed every 2 months for 6 months. We also examined changes in the calcification-inhibitory protein, serum fetuin-A. Results: During the 6-month study period, serum total calcium and ionized calcium decreased consistently (9.5 ± 1.0 to 9.0 ± 0.7, p = 0.002 vs. 1.3 ± 0.1 to 1.1 ± 0.1, p = 0.035). Although no apparent changes in blood pressure were observed, heart-femoral PWW (hf-PWV) and AIx showed significant improvement (p = 0.012, 0.043, respectively). Repeatedmeasures ANOVA indicated a significant effect of lowering dialysate calcium on hf-PWV (F = 4.58, p = 0.004) and AIx (F = 2.55, p = 0.049). Accompanying the change in serum calcium, serum fetuin-A levels significantly increased (95.8 ± 45.8 pmol/mL at baseline to 124.9 ± 82.2 pmol/mL at 6 months, p = 0.043). Conclusions: Lowering dialysate calcium concentration significantly improved arterial stiffness parameters, which may have been associated with upregulation of serum fetuin-A.

This paper reviewed on the symbolism of landscape plants appeared in the past Korean and foreign literatures. The results were as follows ; 1. Landscape plants universally exhibited symbolism. 2. Symbolism of landscape plants in Korea was generally 'virginity', 'a man of virtue', 'prosperity of descendants', etc., with emphasis on culture of character and peace of a family. While symbolism of Landscape plants in the foreign countries was 'longevity', 'the cosmic tree', 'beauty', etc., with emphasis on individual and intercontinental aspects and on beauty. This seemed to be influenced by the difference from different religious and social ways of life. 3. Symbolism of ornamental plants in three countries of the Orient including Korea, Japan and China has relation with the meaning of moral culture. 4. Korean landscape plants which has appeared more than 10 times (28 species) in the past literatures were endowed with symbolism, so Korean ancestors seemed to favor the plants with certain symbolic values other than esthetic and functional aspects. 5. When one saw the influence of religion on the symbolism of plants, 77% of the symbolism had relation with religions in Korea, such as Confucianism (30%), Taoism (19%), Poong-Soo (16%) and Shamanism (12%) in that order, while 67% of symbolism were influenced by the religions such as Juda-Christianism, Taoism, Shamanism in foreign countries. So we find that religions were deeply related with symbolism of plants.
