        동일 지명의 형성 과정 고찰: 전북의 성수면과 성수산을 사례로

        본 연구에서는 전라북도 진안군과 임실군에 존재하는 2개의 성수면과 3개의 성수산의 형성과정을 중심으로 동일 지역에서 같은 지명이 부여되는 과정과 특징을 살펴보았다. 본 연구에서 밝혀진 내용을 정리하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, ‘성수(聖壽)’라는 지명은 임실 성수산 상이암의 이성계 관련 전설에서 유래했으며, 그 시기는 1394년 이후로 추정된다. 둘째, 3개의 성수산 중에서 가장먼저 명명된 것은 임실 성수산으로 보이며, 백운면 성수산과 성수면 성수산은 그 이후로 보인다. 시기는 1700년대 이전으로 볼 수 있다. 역사적인 측면에서는 상이암이 위치하는 임실 성수산(876m), 지리적 측면에서는 금남호남정맥 상에 위치하고 해발고도가 가장 높은 백운면 성수산(1,059m)이 상징성을 지닌다. 셋째, 성수산이라는 산명이 먼저 존재하고, 1914년 행정 구역개편 시기에 성수면이 등장했다. 임실 성수면은 임실군 성수산(876m)에서 유래했고, 진안군 성수면은 성수면 내에 위치하는 성수산(482m)에서 유래했다. This research looks at the process and features of taking the same geographical names in the small region by focusing on formation process of two ‘Sungsu-Myeon’ and three ‘Mountain Sungsu’ present in Imshil and Jinan Gun district. The research results are as follows. First, the nomination of ‘Holy Life (聖壽)’ was derived from the legend of related Yi-dynasty at Sang-i temple located in Imshil Mt. Sungsu, and the naming time might be estimated since 1394. Second, the first named it among the three Mt. Sungsu seen as Imshil Mt. Sungsu, and Baek-un Myeon’s Mt. Sungsu and Sungsu Myeon’s Mt. Sungsu are after that. That naming time can be seen before 1700s. They have the symbolic features which are Imshil Mt. Sungsu (876 m) in the historical aspect, and Baek-un Mt. Sungsu (1,059 m) in the geographical aspect. Third, Mt. Sungsu is the presence in the first, and appeared Sungsu Myeon as a new administrative district in 1914. Imshil Sungsu Myeon had originated in Imshil Mt. Sungsu (876 m) and Jinan Sungsu Myeon was derived from Mt. Sungsu (482 m) located in Sungsu Myeon.

        소아에서 간질발작의 임상양상과 뇌파검사의 관계

        목적:발작의 분류는 발작의 원인, 예후를 추정하거나 항경련제를 선택하는 데 있어 매우 중요하며 뇌파검사는 발작의 종류를 구분하고 적절한 치료를 하기 위해 시행하는 중요한 검사이다. 저자들은 소아에서 임상적 발작이 확실한 경우 간질발작의 임상양상과 뇌파검사 간의 일치 정도를 알아보고자 한다. 방법:2000년 1월 1일부터 2008년 9월 30일까지 1회 이상의 간질발작을 주소로 가천의대 길병원 소아청소년과에 방문한 환자 중 본원에서 처음으로 뇌파검사를 시행한 환자를 대상으로 하였다. 발작의 임상양상은 목격자와 본인의 설명을 기록한 의무기록지를 기준으로 하여 부분발작과 전신발작으로 분류하였고 뇌파검사는 발작간간질양방전을 기준으로 정상과 비정상으로 분류하였으며 각성과 수면상태 모두에서 시행하였다. 결과:총 461명의 환자의 뇌파검사 시의 평균 연령은 6.7세였고 남자는 247명, 여자는 214명이었다. 전체 환자에서 발작의 임상양상은 부분발작이 310명, 전신발작이 187명이었다. 각성뇌파검사에서 비정상은 158명으로 부분발작파가 118명, 전신발작파가 59명, 두 가지 발작파가 한 환자에서 나온 경우가 19명이었고, 수면뇌파검사에서는 비정상이 239명으로 부분발작파가 196명, 전신발작파가 77명, 두 가지 발작파가 한 환자에서 나온 경우가 34명이었으며 전체 환자에서는 비정상이 273명으로 부분발작파가 216명, 전신발작파가 97명, 두 가지 발작파가 한 환자에서 나온 경우가 40명이었다. 간질증후군은 전체 환자 중 90명에서 관찰되었다. 146명(41.5%)의 부분발작과 44명(23.4%)의 전신발작 및 79명(87.8 %)의 간질증후군이 뇌파소견과 일치하였다. 결론:영유아 및 소아에 있어 발작을 진단할 때에는 발작양상 분 아니라 정확한 뇌파소견을 세심하게 고려하여야 한다. Purpose:Electroencephalography(EEG) is an essential method carried out for classifying seizures and taking appropriate treatment. The aim of this study is to investigate the concordance between clinical findings of epileptic seizures and EEG in children. Methods:We enrolled 461 patients from those who visited Gil hospital from January 1, 2000 to September 30, 2008 with the chief complaint of epileptic seizure more than once and checked their first EEG at the same hospital. The clinical findings of seizure were based on the charts and interictal waking and sleep EEGs were done. Results:The mean age of the patients was 6.7 years old. 497 epileptic seizures occurred and its clinical finding included 310 of partial seizures and 187 of generalized seizures. In 315 waking EEG 158 were abnormal including 118 of partial seizures, 59 of generalized seizures and 19 of both seizures, in 431 sleep EEG 239 were abnormal including 196 of partial seizures, 77 of generalized seizures and 34 of both seizures, and in waking and/or sleep EEG 273 were abnormal including 216 of partial seizures, 97 of generalized seizures and 40 of both seizures. Epileptic syndromes were observed in 90 patients. 146(41.5%) of partial seizures, 44(23.4%) of generalized seizures, and 79(87.8%) of epileptic syndromes accorded with EEG. Conclusion:When diagnosing seizures in children, we must consider not only clinical findings but also accurate EEG findings.

      • Novel Select Gate Lateral Coupling Single Poly eNVM for an HVCMOS Process

        <P>We present a novel select gate (SG) lateral coupling embedded nonvolatile memory without any additional steps on a 90-nm high-voltage CMOS process. Usually, the SG coupling devices use a complex double poly process. However, continuing technology shrinkage makes the lateral coupling method possible for a single poly process. The SG of the novel cell is designed to function as a control gate and an SG at the same time, using only lateral capacitance coupling. Because of this distinct cell structure and operating principle, the memory cell has relatively small cell size, over-erase free, and multitime programmable features. The proposed cell is programmed by channel hot electron method and erased by band-to-band tunneling-assisted hot hole method, resulting in a 20- μs programming time and 100-ms erasing time. In addition, using this condition, we can achieve over 3 V threshold voltage (VT) window over 500 cycles and an estimated over 10 year retention lifetime at 85 <SUP>°</SUP>.</P>

      • O-GlcNAc Modification on E-cadherin repressor Snail confers Epithelial-Mesenchymal Transition

        The transcriptional repressor Snail plays a key role in epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) by which direct repression of E-cadherin transcription. Therefore, regulation of Snail expression level in epithelial tumor cells is important not only for maintaining of epithelial homeostasis, but also for invasion and metastasis of cancer cells by the EMT program. Series of Ser imbedded in Snail are phosphorylated by GSK3 and Snail expression is dynamically regulated by Wnt signaling together with β-catenin while driving a Snail-dependent EMT program. Glucose flux through the hexosamine biosynthetic pathway (HBP) can be used for the source of O-linked β-N-acetylglucosamine(O-GlcNAc) modification on Ser and Thr residues of various nucleocytoplasmic proteins. In this study, we demonstrate that Ser112 of Snail is O-GlcNAcylated and this adjacent-site occupancy inhibits phosphorylation by GSK-3, resulting in increased Snail stability and attenuation of E-cadherin proximal promoter activity and transcription level. Furthermore, Overexpression of OGT induces in vivo invasion program of epithelial cancer cells by Snail-dependent manner. Taken together, our results indicate dynamic interplay between O-GlcNAcylation and GSK-3 phosphorylation of Snail, and our observations may provide the molecular insight of pathogenic and prognostic correlation between cancer progression and hyperglycemic condition of diabetes.

      • An exceptionally facile method to produce layered double hydroxides on a conducting substrate and their application for solar water splitting without an external bias

        <P>An exceptionally facile process is presented for <I>in situ</I> formation of zinc chromium layered double hydroxide (ZnCr:LDH) nanosheets on a conducting substrate. Thus, ZnCr:LDH nanosheets were synthesized from a metallic Zn film/fluorine-doped tin oxide (FTO) glass by simply dipping into a Cr nitrate solution for only one minute at room temperature. Then, ZnCr:LDHs were converted into zinc chromium mixed metal oxide (ZnCr:MMO) nanoparticles by calcination. Under visible light irradiation (<I>λ</I> > 420 nm), the <I>in situ</I> synthesized ZnCr:MMO photoanode exhibited a stable and an order-of-magnitude higher activity for photoelectrochemical water splitting than that of a ZnCr:MMO film fabricated <I>ex situ</I> by electrophoretic deposition of already-synthesized ZnCr:MMO powders.         Studies on the Stabilization of Rayon Fabrics for Preparing Carbon Fabrics: 2. Fast Isothermal Stabilization Processes at High Temperature

        In the present study, fast isothermal stabilization processes for rayon precursor fabrics were performed at 350℃ and 400℃ within 3 minutes and the chemical and physical characteristics of the stabilized fabrics were investigated. In addition, rayon precursor fabrics were pre-treated with three different phosphorous-based flame retardants and then stabilized. The effect of flame retardants on the chemical composition, thermal shrinkage, weight change, thermal stability and XRD results was examined, comparing with those of the precursor fabrics. The result showed that the stabilization of rayon fabrics was most effective as the stabilization temperature was 350℃, the stabilization time was 3 min, and the pre-treatment with phosphoric acid of 1 vol%. The carbon contents of stabilized rayon fabrics were increased with increasing stabilization temperature and time, whereas the oxygen contents were decreased. Also, it is likely that the pre-treatment with phosphoric acid plays a role in retarding the change of chemical structure of rayon fabric. The XRD result was quite consistent with the result showing the effect of phosphoric acid on the chemical composition, thermal shrinkage and weight reduction of rayon fabric.

      • Special Lecture : VEGF; Hot Track To Qualified Ulcer Healing

        Background and Aim: Irrespective of etiologies of peptic ulcer diseases (PUD), the most ulcers develop on the lesser curvature side of stomach including incisura and anterior wall of duodenal bulb. However, still no clear explanation why ulcers are prevalent in these areas has been given except some speculations including insufficient perfusion through abnormality in blood vessel, weak structural points or host characteristics. Here, we hypothesized that VEGF polymorphism can predict the susceptibility to peptic ulcer disease through deranged angiogenic activities. Methods: Based on several single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) gene reported in literature search and their frequency studies done with Korean population, we performed the case-control study of 864 patients of chronic gastritis and gastric ulcer in 10 SNPs of VEGF gene including -2488 C/T, -634G/C, -7C/T, 3436G/C, 6112C/A, 6894C/T, 9374G/A, 9812C/T, 13128C/T, and 13553C/T, but of which results showed no statistically significant association between chronic gastritis and gastric ulcer. Results: We performed denatured high-performance liquid chromatography analysis to discover the novel SNP of VEGF gene, after which two novel SNPs of VEGF gene, -1780T/C and IVS-99 G/C, were identified, among which -1780T/C showed significant association between chronic gastritis and peptic ulcer disease, showing OR=2.93 on co-dominant analysis (p<0.001), OR=8.62 on dominant analysis (p<0.001), and OR=3.21 on recessive analysis (p<0.001). Promoter assay using site directed mutagenesis and in vitro angiogenesis assay showed repressed transcription of VEGF gene in gastric epithelial cells and defective tube formation in endothelial cells transfected with plasmid containing -1780C/C mutant of VEGF gene. Conclusion: Novel VEGF polymorphism, -1780T/C, is significantly associated with the predisposition to PUD after the exposure to etiologic risks.

        Productivity Loss of Rheumatoid Arthritis Patients according to the Their Stages of the Disease Activity Score

        Objective. Productivity loss was compared by 3-stage of disease activity and associations between higher disease activity and high productivity loss were identified. Methods. Data were extracted from Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) Patient-reported Outcomes Research, which enrolled 2,000 RA patients (>20-year) on disease-modifying-antirheumatic-drugs (DMARDs) (≥ 6-month) from December 2012 to June 2013. This included 1,457 RA patients with the disease activity score (DAS-28-ESR) in their medical charts. Productivity loss in time and indirect cost was estimated using The World Health Organization Health and Work Performance Questionnaire (HPQ). Baseline characteristics and productivity loss outcomes were compared according to DAS-28-ESR groups. Results. 84.4% were females, 54.2% had low DAS-28-ESR (<3.2), and 38.2% and 7.6% had moderate (3.2∼5.1) and high DAS-28-ESR (>5.1). Patients with moderate to high DAS-28-ESR had higher lost productivity time (LPT) and monthly costs of LPT than those with low DAS-28-ESR (time in hours: 110.0±58.4 vs. 132.4±57.2 vs. 71.5±52.0, p<0.0001; monthly costs of LPT in 1,000 Korean won: 1,097±607 vs. 1,302±554 vs. 741±531, p<0.0001). Multiple regression analyses revealed significant associations with high LPT in high (adjusted odds ratio [OR]=3.87, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 2.18∼6.87) and moderate DAS-28-ESR (adjusted OR=1.88, 95% CI: 1.41∼2.52) compared to low DAS-28-ESR. In addition, positive associations with high monthly costs of LPT were observed in high (adjusted OR=3.45, 95% CI: 1.98∼5.99) and moderate DAS-28-ESR (adjusted OR=1.93, 95% CI: 1.43∼2.54) compared to low DAS-28-ESR. Conclusion. Timely therapeutic strategies should be taken into consideration given that the RA patients with moderate to high DAS-28-ESR showed strong associations with high productivity loss for effective management of RA.
