      • Serum Small Extracellular Vesicle-Derived LINC00853 as a Novel Diagnostic Marker for Early Hepatocellular Carcinoma

        Aims: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) accounts for approximately 90% of the primary liver cancers and represents a major global health problem. This study aimed to identify novel long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) biomarkers for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) using publicly available tissue genomic datasets, and validate their diagnostic utility for early-stage HCC. Differentially expressed lncRNAs between 371 HCC and 50 non-tumor tissues were obtained from The Cancer Genome Atlas liver hepatocellular carcinoma (TCGA_LIHC) project. Methods: Expression of the serum- and the extracellular vesicles (EV)-derived lncRNA was assessed in 10 patients with HCC and 10 healthy controls using RT-PCR. The candidate lncRNAs were validated in 90 HCC and 92 non-HCC (29 healthy control, 28 chronic hepatitis, 35 liver cirrhosis) patients. The sensitivity, specificity, and area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) were calculated for candidate lncRNAs and the current HCC biomarker, alpha-fetoprotein (AFP). Results: SFTA1P, HOTTIP, HAGLROS, LINC01419, HAGLR, CRNDE, and LINC00853 were markedly up-regulated in HCC in TCGA_LIHC dataset. Among them, LINC00853 has not been reported in relation to HCC before. In patients with HCC, only expression of small EV-derived LINC00853 (EV-LINC00853) was increased. EV-LINC00853 showed excellent discriminatory ability in the diagnosis of all-stage HCC (AUC=0.934, 95% CI=0.887-0.966). Moreover, using a 14-fold increase and 20 ng/mL as cut-offs for EV-LINC00853 expression and AFP level, respectively, EV-LINC00853 was found to have a sensitivity of 93.75% and specificity of 89.77%, while AFP showed only 9.38% sensitivity and 72.73% specificity for the diagnosis of early-stage HCC (mUICC stage I). EV-LINC00853 had a positivity of 97% and 67% in AFP-negative and AFP-positive early HCC, respectively. Conclusions: Serum EV-derived LINC00853 may be a novel potential diagnostic biomarker for early HCC, especially for AFP-negative HCC.

      • Electrically tunable metasurface perfect absorber for infrared frequencies

        We theoretically investigate a metasurface perfect absorber based on indium-tin-oxide as active material. Our design scheme relies on conventional metal–oxide–semiconductor model and the Drude model. Inducing a voltage into the device causes a blue-shift of 50 nm in the reflectance spectrum in the infrared region. The total thickness of the device is only 3.5% of the working wavelength λ = 2.56 μm, and the rate of reflectance change reaches 5.16 at λ = 2.56 μm. Because the material that we use has advantages of easy fabrication and fast response, our design approach can be used for numerous applications on active plasmonic sensors and filters.

        Coherence Resonance in Coupled Theta Neurons

        We study the temporal coherence resonance (CR) of a local neuron in an excitatory network of globally coupled canonical type-I theta neurons. For the (isolated) single case, a subthreshold theta neuron exhibits a maximal correlation without any spectral coherence at some optimal noise intensity (i.e., occurrence of maximal correlation without any appearance of peaks in the output power spectrum). This kind of “weak” CR is in contrast to “strong” CR (i.e., occurrence of maximal correlation along with the spectral CR) occurring in the type-II excitable neuron. For the coupled case, each local neuron may be driven by a temporally coherent synaptic current occurring due to spatial coherence between neural spikings. Consequently, a strong CR may occur through the appearance of peaks in the local output power spectrum.0

        Acute tubular necrosis (ATN) is a syndrome of intrinsic renal injury secondary to ischemic or toxic causes without parenchymal damages and usually non-oliguira. A 20- year old man presented with acute anuric renal failure preceded by 2 days of watery diarrhea. He had been anuria for 36hr with intravenous fiuid therapy. Oliguria persisted for 10 days and he required hemodialysis support for 6 days before renal recovery. He denied the use of any regular medication and any intravenous drug use. Renal biopsy revealed severe ATN. Histopathologic findings were marked desquamation of proximal tubular epithelial cells with intact distal tubules and normal glomeruli. We report an unusual case of ATN with anuria and clinically severe features.

      • 친환경적 태도-행동 분석 모형 구축을 통한 친환경소비 활성화 방안 연구

        친환경 구매 촉진을 위한 정부의 다양한 정책이 수립·추진되고 있다. 소비자들은 친환경소비에 대해서 긍정적으로 인식하고 친환경 제품에 대해 추가적인 지불의사가 있는 것으로 조사되었으나, 여전히 실천은 미흡한 실정이다. 본 연구에서는 국내 친환경소비 현황을 진단하고, 친환경적 태도-행동 분석 모형 구축을 통해 친환경소비 확산의 장애요인을 파악하여 정책적 개선방안을 제안하고자 한다. 이를 위해 새로운 친환경소비 지표를 제안하여 국내 친환경소비 현황을 진단하였으며, 친환경적 태도-행동 분석 모형을 구축하였다. 마지막으로 제안된 친환경적 태도-행동 분석 모형을 바탕으로 수집된 거시적인 친환경소비 지표 자료와 설문을 통해 수집된 친환경소비 행태에 대한 미시적 자료를 통합하여 친환경적 태도-행동 불일치성이 발생하는 의사결정 단계와 저해요인들을 파악하고, 이를 완화시키기 위한 정책적 방안들을 도출하였다. 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 빅데이터 기반의 검색어 쿼리를 이용한 친환경지표와 기존 지표들 간의 상관관계를 통해 새로운 지표의 신뢰성을 확보하였다. 제안한 친환경소비 지표를 바탕으로 국내외 13개국(한국 포함)의 친환경소비 수준을 비교 분석한 결과 한국의 경우 평균 수준으로 나타났으나 최근 3년간 친환경소비 수준이 점차 감소하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 제안된 지표를 활용하여 2004년부터 2015년까지 12년간 주요 13개 국가의 친환경소비 수준에 미치는 결정요인들을 파악한 결과, 의료비 지출수준과 65세 이상 인구비중은 친환경소비에 저해요인으로 나타난 반면 초등 이전 교육기간이 길수록, 미래지향적인 사람일수록 친환경소비에 긍정적인 요인으로 나타났다. 둘째, 이전 의사결정 단계의 선택이 그 다음 의사결정 단계의 선택에 영향을 미치는 것을 고려함으로써 소비자들의 친환경 제품에 대한 태도변화를 인지-관심-구매의사의 단계로 구분하여 분석하는 태도-행동 분석 모형을 구축하였다. 친환경 제품을 생활밀착형제품, 가전제품, 친환경자동차의 제품군으로 구분하고 친환경 세제, 무세제 세탁기, 하이브리드/전기 자동차를 각각 제품군별 대표 제품으로 선정하였고 설문을 통해 자료를 수집하여 제품별 저해요인/결정요인을 분석하였다. 친환경 세제의 경우, 제품 관점에서 실제 소비행동을 높이기 위해서는 기존 제품 대신에 친환경 세제를 사용하기에 불편함이 없다는 제품의 호환성 측면을 강조할 필요가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 매체 특성 관점에서는 이용후기 등에 대한 정보와 신뢰성 있는 정보를 제공하는 것이 다른 정보전달 방법보다 친환경 세제 구매행동을 향상시키는데 도움이 되는 것으로 나타났다. 소비자 특성 관점에서 보면, 헤도닉 혁신성이 높은 소비자들을 타깃으로 한 제품 판매 전략을 수립해야 하는 것으로 나타났다. 무세제 세탁기의 경우는 제품 관점에서 실제 소비행동을 높이기 위해서는 제품의 호환성 측면을 친환경 세제와 동일하게 강조할 필요가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 제품의 복잡성의 경우는 소비자의 행동 단계에 음의 영향을 끼치는 것으로 나타났으며, 매체 특성 관점에서 살펴보면 전문성을 갖춘 정보들이 구매행동을 높이는 긍정적인 역할을 하는 것으로 나타났다. 소비자들의 의사결정 단계별 영향을 살펴보면, 소비자들의 인식 단계는 정서 단계에 영향을 미치지 않으나 정서 단계가 행동 단계에 음의 영향을 끼치는 것으로 나타나 태도-행동 불일치가 발생하는 것으로 나타났다. 전기 자동차의 경우는 제품 관점에서 실제 소비행동을 높이기 위해서는 제품의 상대적 이점과 호환성에 대한 부분이 강조되어야 할 필요가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 매체 관점에서는 다양한 정보전달 방법 중에서 신뢰성 있는 정보를 전달하는 것이 오히려 구매행동에 긍정적인 역할을 하는 것으로 나타났다. 소비자 특성 관점에서 보면, 기능적 혁신성과 인지적 혁신성이 오히려 전기 자동차 구매행동에 음의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 소비자들의 의사결정 단계별 영향을 살펴보면, 소비자들의 인식 단계는 정서 단계에 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났으나 정서 단계가 행동 단계에서는 유의한 양의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구에서 제안한 태도-행동 분석 모형을 활용한 친환경 제품별 분석결과는 소비자, 제품, 매체의 관점을 고려하여 의사결정 단계의 저해요인들을 파악하였으므로, 향후 해당 관점에서 친환경소비 활성화 정책을 마련하는데 기초자료로 활용도가 높을 것으로 기대된다. The government has been establishing and implementing various policies for promoting environmentally friendly consumption. While it was surveyed that consumers have a positive awareness of environmentally friendly consumption and are willing to pay extra for the environmentally friendly products, still only a few have done so. This study aimed to diagnose the current status of environmentally friendly domestic consumption and suggest policy improvements by identifying the obstacles to the spread of environmentally friendly consumption. To that end, the study diagnosed the current status of environmentally friendly domestic consumption by proposing a new environmentally friendly consumption index, and developed the environmental attitude-behavior model. Using the data gathered from a survey, it identified the decision-making stages with discrepancy between the environmentally friendly attitude and behavior occurs and found out the deterrent factors, and derived the policy measures to mitigate the problems. The results are as follows: First, the study secured the reliability of the new index based on the correlation between the environmentally friendly index using the big data-based keyword query and the existing indices. As a result of the comparative analysis of the level of environmentally friendly consumption of 13 countries (including South Korea) based on the proposed environmentally friendly consumption index, South Korea showed an average level, but the level of environmentally friendly consumption started to be reduced for the past 3 years. In addition, according to the research on the determinants that influence the level of environmentally friendly consumption of major 13 countries for 12 years from 2004 to 2015 using the proposed index, the level of health care spending and proportion of population of 65 and over citizens were the deterrent factors to environmentally friendly consumption. On the other hand, a longer preschool education period and more future-oriented people were identified to be the positive factors to environmentally friendly consumption. Second, given the influence of what was chosen in the previous decision making stage on the next decision-making stage, the study developed an attitude-behavior model after dividing the changes in consumer attitude to the environmentally friendly products into the stages of recognition, interest, and purchasing intention. The study categorized the environmentally friendly products into the product groups of lifestyle-oriented products, appliances, and environmentally friendly automobiles; selected the environmentally friendly detergent, detergent-free washing machine and hybrid/electric car as the representative products by product group; and analyzed the deterrent factors/determinants by product after collecting data from a survey. In the case of the environmentally friendly detergent, it was necessary to emphasize the compatibility of the product that it is not inconvenient to use the environmentally friendly detergent instead of the existing detergent products in order to improve practical consumption behavior from the aspect of the product. When it comes to the characteristics of the medium, it was helpful to provide reviews and reliable information in order to improve purchase behavior of the environmentally friendly detergent rather than other ways to provide information. In terms of the characteristics of the consumers, it showed the necessity of establishing product sales strategies that target the consumers with high hedonic innovativeness. In the case of the detergent-free washing machine, it was required to emphasize the aspect of compatibility of the product to the same extent to the environmentally friendly detergent to practically improve consumption behavior from the aspect of products. When the products have complicated functions and difficult instructions, the products had negative impacts on the behavior stage of the consumers and the professional information played a positive role in increasing purchase behavior when it comes to the characteristics of the medium. In terms of the characteristics of the consumers, the consumers with high functional innovativeness tended to have lower purchase behavior on the detergent-free washing machine. In terms of the impacts by decision-making stage of the consumers, the recognition stage did not have impacts on the emotion stage but the emotion stage did have a negative impact on the behavior stage, occurring the discrepancy between the attitude and behavior. In the case of the electric cars, it was needed to emphasize the relative advantages and compatibility of the product to practically improve consumption behavior from the aspect of the product. In terms of the impacts by consumers` decision-making stage, the recognition stage of the consumers did not have impacts on the emotion stage while the emotion stage did have significantly positive impacts on the behavior stage. The analysis by environmentally friendly product using the proposed attitude-behavior model identified the deterrent factors of the decision-making stages, given the perspectives of the consumers, products and medium. Therefore, it is expected to use the analyzed results as a basic resource to establish the polices to promote environmentally friendly consumption in the future from the applicable perspective.
