        Histone Deacetylase 9: Its Role in the Pathogenesis of Diabetes and Other Chronic Diseases

        As a member of the class IIa histone deacetylases (HDACs), HDAC9 catalyzes the deacetylation of histones and transcription factors, commonly leading to the suppression of gene transcription. The activity of HDAC9 is regulated transcriptionally and posttranslationally. HDAC9 is known to play an essential role in regulating myocyte and adipocyte differentiation and cardiac muscle development. Also, recent studies have suggested that HDAC9 is involved in the pathogenesis of chronic diseases, including cardiovascular diseases, osteoporosis, autoimmune disease, cancer, obesity, insulin resistance, and liver fibrosis. HDAC9 modulates the expression of genes related to the pathogenesis of chronic diseases by altering chromatin structure in their promotor region or reducing the transcriptional activity of their respective transcription factors. This review summarizes the current knowledge of the regulation of HDAC9 expression and activity. Also, the roles of HDAC9 in the pathogenesis of chronic diseases are discussed, along with potential underlying mechanisms.

        Effect of aberrantly methylated androgen receptor target gene PCDH7 on the development of androgen-independent prostate cancer cells

        Background Androgen-independent prostate cancer (AIPC) is an extremely malignant tumor developed from the androgen dependent (ADPC). However, the mechanism of transition process from ADPC to AIPC remains unknown. Objective Here we aimed to identify the androgen receptor (AR) target gene and its roles in AIPC. Methods Target genes of AR were identified by ChIP-seq in AIPC cells. AR target gene PCDH7 was detected by real time PCR and western blot. Methylation of PCDH7 was measured by bisulfite sequencing and bisulfite amplicon sequencing. Cell growth, invasion and apoptosis were measured by CCK-8, transwell and flow cytometry, respectively. Results AR was significantly enriched in the upstream of PCDH7 gene. The expression of PCDH7 was significantly decreased, while the methylation of PCDH7 was increased in the AIPC cells compared to the ADPC cells. DNA methyltransferase inhibitor significantly suppressed the methylation and increased the mRNA and protein level of PCDH7. Moreover, overexpression of DNMT1 remarkably reduced the mRNA and protein level of PCDH7. DNA methyltransferase inhibitor decreased the cell growth and invasion while promote the cell apoptosis in the AIPC cells. AR significantly target PCDH7, whose hypermethylation may repress cell growth and invasion, and promote apoptosis in AIPC. Conclusions This study might provide a novel potential target for the treatment of AIPC.

      • Developments of Maritime Law in China in 2015-2016

        There were developments of the maritime law in China in the late 2015 and 2016 which mainly include,inter alia, the entry into force of international maritime treaties, i.e. the Maritime Labour Convention, 2006 (hereinafter referred to as “MLC”) and the 2015 Amendment to the SOLAS Convention VI/2 in China; the promulgation of the governmental statutes regarding water environmental protection or macro-control on the merchant fleet structure by way of subsidiaries; the abolishment of the existing regulations; the promulgation of maritime judiciary interpretations and provisions of the Supreme People's Court; and the publication of the judgement of the “Archangelos Gabriel” salvage case retried by the Supreme People's Court. In addition, achievement was made in the research on the revision of the Chinese Maritime. In this paper, the authors introduce and explain the above developments.

        Health Benefits of Carotenoids: A Role of Carotenoids in the Prevention of Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease

        Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is one of the most common chronic liver diseases with a prevalence of ∼25% worldwide. NAFLD includes simple hepatic steatosis, non-alcoholic steatohepatitis, fibrosis, and cirrhosis, which can further progress to hepatocellular carcinoma. Therefore, effective strategies for the prevention of NAFLD are needed. The pathogenesis of NAFLD is complicated due to diverse injury insults, such as fat accumulation, oxidative stress, inflammation, lipotoxicity, and apoptosis, which may act synergistically. Studies have shown that carotenoids, a natural group of isoprenoid pigments, prevent the development of NAFLD by exerting antioxidant, lipid-lowering, anti-inflammatory, anti-fibrotic, and insulin-sensitizing properties. This review summarizes the protective action of carotenoids, with primary focuses on astaxanthin, lycopene, β-carotene, β-cryptoxanthin, lutein, fucoxanthin, and crocetin, against the development and progression of NAFLD.

        한국과 중국의 모바일 SNS를 활용한 마케팅 특징 비교 - 유니클로 브랜드를 중심으로 -

        모바일 SNS는 기업과 소비자와의 관계와 커뮤니케이션에 새로운 환경을 가져옴으로써 기업 마케팅의 변화를 촉구, 발전시키고 있다. 모바일 SNS는 휴대용 컴퓨터 기능의 도입으로 시공간의 제약이 없어 이동성과 편의성을 극대화한 플랫폼으로, 국내 기업들의 모바일 SNS를 활용한 마케팅 사례가 증가하고 있다. 본 연구는 마케팅 활용 관점에서 모바일 SNS의 정의 및 환경 변화를 고찰하고, 한국과 중국의 모바일 SNS 채널들의 기능적 특징 및 기대 가치를 유니클로 브랜드의 사례를 통해 비교 분석하여, 각국의 마케팅 유형의 특징을 도출하는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 비교분석 결과 사회적 측면에서 위챗 공식계정이 카카오톡 플러스친구보다 사용자 간 정보적 연결성과 고객활용성이 높은 것으로 나타났다. 기능적 측면에서 위챗 공식계정은 다양한 기능의 활용으로 채널의 차별성을 구축하고 있었다. 마지막으로 프로모션의 다양성 측면에서 카카오톡 플러스친구와 위챗 공식계정 모두 사회공헌활동 항목의 보완이 요구됐으며, 카카오톡 플러스친구는 고객 서비스와 고객 관계 관리 항목 보완 및 강화의 필요성을 확인할 수 있었다. 따라서 기업은 고객 서비스, 마케팅 프로모션, 고객 관계 관리, 사회공헌활동의 마케팅 목적을 상호 보완, 통합 가능한 마케팅 전략 수립해야 함을 제안했다. Mobile SNS is demanding and developing change of corporate marketing as it brought new environments to relationships and communications between companies and consumers. As there are no any restrictions of space and time in mobile SNS because portable computer functions are introduced, it is the platform which maximized mobility and convenience. So the Korean companies`s marketing cases which utilizes mobile SNS have increased. This study tried to consider the definition of mobile SNS and environmental changes from the viewpoint of marketing utilization, compare and analyze the functional characteristics and expected value of Korean and Chinese mobile SNS channels through UNQLO`s case, and purpose was to draw the Types and Characteristics of fashion marketing In each country. The comparison and analysis result of official accounts has found that WeChat`s information connectivity between users and customer utilization are higher than those of Kakao Talk Plus Friends from the social aspect. In the functional asepect, WeChat`s official accounts are building differentiation of channels by utilizing the various functions. Finally, in the diversity aspect of promotion, the official accounts of Kakao Talk Plus Friends and WeChat all require supplementation of the activity item to contribute to society. And Kakao Talk Plus Friends could be found to need to supplement and strengthen customer services and the item to manage relationships with customers. Therefore, companies should establish marketing strategies which can mutually supplement and integrate customer services, marketing promotion, management of relationships with customers, and marketing purposes of the activities to contribute to society.

        한국과 중국의 SNS를 활용한 광고 전략 비교 분석 - 라네즈, 이니스프리 브랜드를 중심으로 -

        최근 각광받고 있는 SNS 광고에 대한 국가 간 비교연구를 위하여 글로벌 화장품 브랜드 SNS 광고의 다양한 정보요소 및 메시지 전략을 비교분석하였다. 본 연구는 테일러의 6분할 메시지 전략 모델과 래이스키와 동료들의 크리에이티브 모델을 분석틀로 이용하여 이니스프리와 라네즈 브랜드의 SNS 광고 이미지 1210개의 메시지 전략을 분석하였다. 한국의 페이스북 광고는 정보적 영역과 감성적 영역의 전략을 비슷하게 보이고 있으나 중국의 시나웨이보 광고는 정보적 영역의 전략이 압도적으로 높은 수준을 보이고 있었다. 구체적인 메시지 전략의 사용에서 한국과 중국 모두 감성적 영역에서 자아 전략보다 사회적 전략이 높은 비중을 차지한 것으로 미루어 동양의 집단주의적 성향이 드러난 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 보조 전략의 사용에 있어서 진출 시기에 따라 두 개 브랜드의 전략이 차이가 있음을 알 수 있었다. 중국의 시나웨이보에서 이니스프리 브랜드는 브랜드의 인지도를 위한 전략을, 라네즈 브랜드는 브랜드의 친밀도를 향상하기 위한 전략을 전개하고 있었다. 따라서 한국과 중국 두 시장 간에 존재하는 전략적 차이와 문화적 요소를 바탕으로 이와 같은 결과가 나타난 이유를 해석하고 이를 바탕으로 글로벌 SNS 광고 전략수립에 필요한 실무적 시사점을 제공한다. For cross-cultural comparative studies of SNS advertising coming into the spotlight recently, this paper comparatively analyzes a variety of SNS advertising information elements and message strategies of global cosmetics brand. This study applies Taylor`s six-segment message strategy wheel and Laskey et al.`s creative strategy model as a theoretical framework for analyzing the SNS advertising image strategies of cosmetic brand innisfree and Laneige, 1210 ads were analyzed. The strategy of transmission view and ritual view is similarly used in Facebook advertising of South Korea, meanwhile the strategy of transmission view is more dominantly used than that of ritual view in Sina Weibo advertising of China. In terms of using specific message strategy, as social strategy shows a higher proportion of the ritual view than ego strategy both in South Korea and China, the collective tendency of East Asia can be identified. In terms of using assistive strategy, the two brands show difference in strategy depending on entry timing. In Sina Weibo of China, the brand Innisfree develops strategy to enhance brand awareness; meanwhile the brand Laneige develops strategy to increase brand familiarity. Therefore, the research herein interprets reasons of the results deriving from cultural factors and strategic difference between South Korean and Chinese markets, and based on this, it also offers practical implications required to establish global SNS advertising strategy.

        Anthocyanin-Rich Aronia Berry Extract Mitigates High-Fat and High-Sucrose Diet-Induced Adipose Tissue Inflammation by Inhibiting Nuclear Factor-κB Activation

        Obesity-induced inflammation in adipose tissue (AT) promotes the development of metabolic dysregulations by increasing macrophage recruitment in the stromal vascular fraction (SVF). The activation of nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) signaling in macrophages serves as a pivotal mediator of AT inflammatory responses by increasing the expression of proinflammatory genes in obesity. Given the purported anti-inflammatory effects of berry consumption in humans, we evaluated if anthocyanin-rich aronia berry extract (ARN) can prevent obesity-induced AT inflammation in vivo. We also examined whether ARN suppresses lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced NF-κB activation in RAW 264.7 macrophages and mouse bone marrow-derived macrophages (BMDMs). Male C57BL/6J mice were fed a low-fat diet, a high-fat (HF), and high-sucrose (HS) diet or HF/HS diet supplemented with 0.2% ARN (HF/HS + ARN) for 14 weeks. Compared to HF-/HS-fed mice, ARN supplementation tended to decrease fasting serum glucose (P = .07). Furthermore, ARN supplementation significantly inhibited the phosphorylation of NF-κB p65 in epididymal AT with a concomitant decrease in the expression of Cd11b and Tnfα mRNAs in epididymal SVF isolated, compared with those from HF-/HS-fed mice. Consistent with these in vivo findings, ARN treatment significantly decreased the phosphorylation of p65 in LPS-stimulated RAW 264.7 macrophages and BMDMs. Moreover, ARN suppressed LPS-induced mRNA expression of inflammation mediators (iNos, Cox-2, Tnfα, Mcp-1, and Il-6) and glycolysis markers (Glut1, G6pdh, and Hk1) in both cell types. Taken together, our in vivo and in vitro results suggest that ARN supplementation may attenuate obesity-induced AT inflammation by inhibiting NF-κB signaling and glycolytic pathway in macrophages.
