      • An Increase in Synaptic NMDA Receptors in the Insular Cortex Contributes to Neuropathic Pain

        Qiu, Shuang,Chen, Tao,Koga, Kohei,Guo, Yan-yan,Xu, Hui,Song, Qian,Wang, Jie-jie,Descalzi, Giannina,Kaang, Bong-Kiun,Luo, Jian-hong,Zhuo, Min,Zhao, Ming-gao AAAS 2013 Science signaling Vol.6 No.275

<P><B>Stopping the Pain</B></P><P>Damage to the central or peripheral nervous system can trigger the development of neuropathic pain, which can manifest as painful sensations in response to stimuli that are not normally painful. Qiu <I>et al.</I> found that mice that had developed neuropathic pain after peripheral nerve injury showed changes in synaptic plasticity and increased abundance of synaptic NMDA receptors in the insular cortex, a region of the brain that is activated by acute and chronic pain. Using pharmacological inhibitors and transgenic mice, they mimicked these changes in vitro with insular cortical slices and thus identified the signaling pathway responsible. Mice injected with NMDA receptor inhibitors showed reduced behavioral signs of neuropathic pain after peripheral nerve injury. Thus, blocking NMDA receptor function in the insular cortex may prevent the development of neuropathic pain.</P>

The mechanism of enhanced photocatalytic activity of SnO2 through fullerene modification

        Shuang-Shuang Ding,Wei-Qing Huang,Bing-Xin Zhou,Ping Peng,Wangyu Hu,Meng-Qiu Long,Gui-Fang Huang 한국물리학회 2017 Current Applied Physics Vol.17 No.11

Carbon nanomaterials are prominent building blocks in the synthetic van der Waals (vdW) heterostructures with desired properties. Scientific understanding of their interfacial interactions is the premise to design this kind of vdW heterostructures with optimal performance. We here study the mechanism of enhanced photocatalytic activity of SnO2 by fullerene modification at electronic level, to explore the interfacial interaction and its correlation with photocatalytic activity. The results show that the interfacial interaction increases with the number of C atom of fullerene, and leads to some of C atoms be positively/ negatively charged, making the fullerene a highly active co-catalyst in heterostructures. Compared to pristine SnO2, the band gap of the heterostructures is much smaller, leading to their absorption wavelength extending the entire visible region. Interestingly, a staggered type-II band alignment in the C20 (C60)/SnO2 (101) heterostructures results into the robust separation of photoexcited charge carriers between the two constituents, indicating that the fullerene is an effective sensitizer, and thus enhanced photocatalytic activity. These findings can rationalize the available experiment and will be of broad interest in developing the highly efficient semiconductor photocatalysts via fullerene modification.

      • Loss of Expression of PTEN is Associated with Worse Prognosis in Patients with Cancer

Qiu, Zhi-Xin,Zhao, Shuang,Li, Lei,Li, Wei-Min Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2015 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.16 No.11

Background: The tumor suppressor phosphatase and tensin homolog (PTEN) is an important negative regulator of cell-survival signaling. However, available results for the prognostic value of PTEN expression in patients with cancer remain controversial. Therefore, a meta-analysis of published studies investigating this issue was performed. Materials and Methods: A literature search via PubMed and EMBASE databases was conducted. Statistical analysis was performed by using the STATA 12.0 (STATA Corp., College, TX). Data from eligible studies were extracted and included into the meta-analysis using a random effects model. Results: A total of 3,810 patients from 27 studies were included in the meta-analysis, 22 investigating the relationship between PTEN expression and overall survival (OS) using univariate analysis, and nine with multivariate analysis. The pooled hazard ratio (HR) for OS was 1.64 (95% confidence interval (CI): 1.32-2.05) by univariate analysis and 1.56 (95% CI: 1.20-2.03) by multivariate analysis. In addition, eight papers including two disease-free-survival analyses (DFSs), four relapse-free-survival analyses (RFSs), three progression-free-survival analyses (PFSs) and one metastasis-free-survival analysis (MFS) reported the effect of PTEN on survival. The results showed that loss of PTEN expression was significant correlated with poor prognosis, with a combined HR of 1.74 (95% CI: 1.24-2.44). Furthermore, in the stratified analysis by the year of publication, ethnicity, cancer type, method, cut-off value, median follow-up time and neoadjuvant therapy in which the study was conducted, we found that the ethnicity, cancer type, method, median follow-up time and neoadjuvant therapy are associated with prognosis. Conclusions: Our study shows that negative or loss of expression of PTEN is associated with worse prognosis in patients with cancer. However, adequately designed prospective studies need to be performed for confirmation.

Differential Expression of PPARγ, FASN, and ACADM Genes in Various Adipose Tissues and Longissimus dorsi Muscle from Yanbian Yellow Cattle and Yan Yellow Cattle

        Ji, Shuang,Yang, Runjun,Lu, Chunyan,Qiu, Zhengyan,Yan, Changguo,Zhao, Zhihui Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2014 Animal Bioscience Vol.27 No.1

The objective of this study was to investigate the correlation between cattle breeds and deposit of adipose tissues in different positions and the gene expressions of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma ($PPAR{\gamma}$), fatty acid synthase (FASN), and Acyl-CoA dehydrogenase (ACADM), which are associated with lipid metabolism and are valuable for understanding the physiology in fat depot and meat quality. Yanbian yellow cattle and Yan yellow cattle reared under the same conditions display different fat proportions in the carcass. To understand this difference, the expression of $PPAR{\gamma}$, FASN, and ACADM in different adipose tissues and longissimus dorsi muscle (LD) in these two breeds were analyzed using the Real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction method (qRT-PCR). The result showed that $PPAR{\gamma}$ gene expression was significantly higher in adipose tissue than in LD in both breeds. $PPAR{\gamma}$ expression was also higher in abdominal fat, in perirenal fat than in the subcutaneous fat (p<0.05) in Yanbian yellow cattle, and was significantly higher in subcutaneous fat in Yan yellow cattle than that in Yanbian yellow cattle. On the other hand, FASN mRNA expression levels in subcutaneous fat and abdominal fat in Yan yellow cattle were significantly higher than that in Yanbian yellow cattle. Interestingly, ACADM gene shows greater fold changes in LD than in adipose tissues in Yan yellow cattle. Furthermore, the expressions of these three genes in lung, colon, kidney, liver and heart of Yanbian yellow cattle and Yan yellow cattle were also investigated. The results showed that the highest expression levels of $PPAR{\gamma}$ and FASN genes were detected in the lung in both breeds. The expression of ACADM gene in kidney and liver were higher than that in other organs in Yanbian yellow cattle, the comparison was not statistically significant in Yan yellow cattle.

      • Security Authentication Method of Speech Perceptual Hashing Based on Fuzzy Commitment Scheme

        Zhang Qiu-yu,Ren Zhan-wei,Huang Yi-bo,Yu Shuang,Hu Wen-jin 보안공학연구지원센터 2016 International Journal of Security and Its Applicat Vol.10 No.1

Existing speech perceptual hashing authentication algorithms generally encrypt the perceptual hash value to protect the security of the algorithms. But under the principle of Kerckhoffs, the algorithm becomes transparent and fragile. And it can be seen that the secret key may be estimated when the number of times that reuses the secret key reache to a limit through the safety analysis of Shannon unicity distance. To solve these problems, we present a novel security authentication scheme of speech perceptual hashing based on the fuzzy commitment scheme (FCS). Firstly, in sender, the randomly selected BCH code word and the extracted perceptual hash value are sent to the Cmt() function to calculate and the final secure perceptual hash value (h(c),) can be obtained. Secondly, in receiver, the perceptual hash value is calculated again from the received speech information and then the calculated perceptual hash value with the received information  (commitment) are sent to the Decmt() function to calculate to get the h(c′). Finally, the h(c) and h(c′) are matched. The experimental results show that the proposed scheme effectively avoids the probability that an attacker obtains the plaintext/ciphertext pairs without affecting the performance of original algorithm, and at the same time it ensures the security of perceptual hashing algorithm.

      • Prognostic Value of CD44 Variant exon 6 Expression in Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer: a Meta-analysis

        Zhao, Shuang,He, Jin-Lan,Qiu, Zhi-Xin,Chen, Nian-Yong,Luo, Zhuang,Chen, Bo-Jiang,Li, Wei-Min Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.16

Background: CD44v6 (CD44 variant exon 6) is the chief CD44 variant isoform regulating tumor invasion, progression, and metastasis. The prognostic value of CD44v6 expression in non small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) has been evaluated in many studies, but the results have remained controversial. Thus, we performed a meta-analysis of currently available studies to investigate the prognostic value of CD44v6 expression in NSCLC patients and the relationship between the expression of CD44v6 and clinicopathological features. Materials and Methods: Two independent reviewers searched the relevant literature in Pubmed, Medline and Embase from 1946 to January 2014. Overall survival (OS) and various clinicopathological features were collected from included studies. This meta-analysis was accomplished using STATA 12.0 and Revman 5.2 software. Pooled hazard ratios (HRs) with 95% confidence intervals (95%CIs) were calculated to estimate the effects. Results: A total of 921 NSCLC patients from ten studies met the inclusion criteria. The results showed that CD44v6 high expression was a prognostic factor for poor survival (HR=1.91, 95%CI=1.12-3.26, p<0.05). With respect to clinicopathological features, CD44v6 high expression was related to histopathologic type (squamous cell carcinoma versus adenocarcinoma: OR=2.72, 95%CI=1.38-5.38, p=0.004), and lymph node metastasis (OR=3.02, 95%CI=1.93-4.72, p<0.00001). Conclusions: Our results suggested CD44v6 high expression as a poor prognostic factor for NSCLC, and CD44v6 expression is associated with lymph node metastasis and histopathologic type. Therefore, CD44v6 expression can be used as a novel prognostic marker in NSCLC cases.

      • Security Analysis of Speech Perceptual Hashing Authentication Algorithm

        Zhang Qiu-yu,Ren Zhan-wei,Xing Peng-fei,Huang Yi-bo,Yu Shuang 보안공학연구지원센터 2016 International Journal of Security and Its Applicat Vol.10 No.1

Speech perceptual hashing authentication algorithm is an efficient method for content integrity authentication and identity authentication. But the algorithm becomes transparent under the principle of Kerckhoffs which makes the algorithm unsafe. In this paper, the algorithm is encrypted under the principle of Kerckhoffs to protect the security of the algorithm. Then the specific link that won’t affect the performance of the algorithm is identified through the experiments. Next, this paper analyzes the security of the encrypted algorithm based on the concept of Shannon unicity distance. The unicity distance is figured out finally based on the experiments. That is to say, the algorithm loses its security even though the algorithm has been encrypted. Under this circumstances, the most important thing is to continue keeping the safety of the algorithm. Therefore, this paper proposed an efficient random secret key method to guarantee the safety of the algorithm after the unicity distance is figured out.
