The purpose of this study was to investigate the recent development of meat analog, industrialization, and the related legal changes worldwide. Summarizing the current status of the industrialization of meat analog, studies on plant-based meat, mycoprotein, and edible insects were mainly conducted to investigate their sensory properties (texture, taste, flavor, and color resembling meat), nutritional and safety evaluations, acquisition method of meat alternatives, and commercialization. Cultured meat is mainly studied for developing muscle satellite cell acquisition and support techniques or materials for the formation of structures. However, these technologies have not reached the level for active industrialization. Even though there are differences in the food categories and labeling between countries, it is common to cause confusion or to relay false information to consumers; therefore, it is important to provide accurate information. In this study, there were some differences in the food classification and food definition (labeling) contents for each country and state depending on the product shape or form, raw materials, and ingredients. Therefore, this study can provide information about the current research available on meat alternatives, improve regulation, and clarify laws related to the meat analog industry, which can potentially grow alongside the livestock industry.
The Role of Postsplenectomy Reactive Thrombocytosis in Advanced Epithelial Ovarian Cancer

Objective: Thrombocytosis as part of paraneoplastic syndrome has been associated with poor ovarian cancer survivals. During maximal cytoreductive surgery in advanced ovarian cancer, about 30% of patients has splenectomy to achieve optimal cytoreduction. About 75% of individuals without myeloproliferative disorders develops thrombocytosis after splenectomy in general population. However, the incidence of thrombocytosis after splenectomy and its role on survival in advanced epithelial ovarian cancer is still unclear. Methods: This is a retrospective cohort study using data from Samsung Comprehensive Cancer Center, Seoul, Korea (January 1, 2012, and December 31, 2017). We identified patients who were diagnosed with advanced epithelial ovarian cancer and had splenectomy during primary debulking surgery. Results: Eighty nine patients were eligible for this study. Median age was 55 years (33-79) and pretreatment CA 125 was 870.3 U/mL (8.8-16719). 74.2% (66/89) and 25.8% (23/89) was FIGO stage IIIC and IV, respectively. 56% of patients showed thrombocytosis on postoperative day 7 after splenectomy. Preoperative platelet count was 307 K/μL (121-671) and postsplenecomty platelet count on day 7 was significantly increased at 502 K/μL with a range of 116-1029 K/μL (P < 0.001), which is 70% increase on average. When we divide the entire cohort into two groups (< 70% increase, group 1 vs. ≥ 70% increase, group 2), there is no difference in progression free survival (P = 0.584) and overall survival (P = 0.700). In multivariate analysis adjusting stage, level of residual disease, CA 125, and age, platelet counts changes after splenectomy did not affect the survival outcomes (PFS; HR 1.027 95%CI 0.637 - 1.656, OS; HR 1.328 95%CI 0.654 - 2.695). No difference in thromboembolic events was also observed between groups. Conclusion: As opposed to thrombocytosis related with paraneoplastic syndrome, postsplenectomy reactive thrombocytosis does not affect survival outcomes in advanced epithelial ovarian cancer.
Outbreaks of Imipenem-Resistant Acinetobacter baumannii Producing Carbapenemases in Korea

Among 53 Acinetobacter baumannii isolates collected in 2004, nine imipenem-resistant isolates were obtained from clinical specimens taken from patients hospitalized in Busan, Korea. Nine carbapenemase-producing isolates were further investigated in order to determine the mechanisms underlying resistance. These isolates were then analyzed via antibiotic susceptibility testing, microbiological tests of carbapenemase activity, pI determination, transconjugation test, enterobacterial repetitive consensus (ERIC)-PCR, and DNA sequencing. One outbreak involved seven cases of infection by A. baumannii producing OXA-23 ${\beta}-lactamase$, and was found to have been caused by a single ERIC-PCR clone. During the study period, the other outbreak involved two cases of infection by A. baumannii producing IMP-1 ${\beta}-lactamase$. The two clones, one from each of the outbreaks, were characterized via a modified cloverleaf synergy test and an EDTA-disk synergy test. The isoelectric focusing of the crude bacterial extracts detected nitrocefin-positive bands with pI values of 6.65 (OXA-23) and 9.0 (IMP-1). The PCR amplification and characterization of the amplicons via direct sequencing showed that the clonal isolates harbored $bla_{IMP-1}$ or $bla_{oxA-23}$ determinants. The two clones were characterized by a multidrug resistance phenotype that remained unaltered throughout the outbreak. This resistance encompassed penicillins, extended-spectrum cephalosporins, carbapenems, monobactams, and aminoglycosides. These results appear to show that the imipenem resistance observed among nine Korean A. baumannii isolates could be attributed to the spread of an IMP-lor OXA-23-producing clone. Our microbiological test of carbapenemase activity is a simple method for the screening of clinical isolates producing class D carbapenemase and/or class B $metallo-{\beta}-lactamase$, in order both to determine their clinical impact and to prevent further spread.
Mechanical Properties of Breathable Waterproof Fabrics with Seaming and Sealing Processes

Waterproof fabrics are seamed and sealed by waterproof sealing tape to prevent water from penetrating through the stitch holes. As this process may change the mechanical properties of breathable waterproof fabric related to its deformation with human body, the changes in mechanical properties were investigated. In both of parallel and perpendicular directions, tensile characteristics were remarkably changed with seaming and sealing processes. The increase of LT and WT means that the clothing sealed by waterproofing tape may produce somewhat discomfort feeling. On the other hand, the bridge of the sewing thread seemed to be reinforced by waterproofing tape. Shear characteristics such as G, 2HG, and 2HG5 gradually increased with seaming and sealing processes in parallel direction. However, they decreased with sealing process in perpendicular direction because the seam line would work as an axis located at the center of the testing range.
Seam Characteristics of Breathable Waterproof Fabrics with Various Finishing Methods

We evaluated the seam characteristics with finishing, seaming and sealing processes and seam Puckering behavior of the breathable waterproof fabrics with laser scan. There were differences in 99% significant level between the seamed fabric and the sealed fabric. Seam breakage was initiated with the breakage of sewing thread, so the seam strength after seaming was almost uniform. The sewn seam strength and elongation increased with sealing process in all finishing methods. Pucker grade of laminating type was generally much higher than that of the coating type. We confirmed that wave length and amplitude have more important meaning than the number of weave in the breathable waterproof fabrics. The puckering in breathable waterproof fabrics is mainly occurred by inherent and feeding pucker. The former if due to the insertion of sewing thread and the littler is caused by differential feeding when two pieces of fabric are fed into the gap between a press foot and needle plate.
