<P>An extraction technique for subgap density of states (DOS) in an n-channel amorphous InGaZnO thin-film transistor (TFT) by using multifrequency capacitance-voltage (<I>C</I> -<I>V</I>) characteristics is proposed and verified by comparing the measured <I>I</I>- <I>V</I> characteristics with the technology computer-aided design simulation results incorporating the extracted DOS as parameters. It takes on the superposition of exponential tail states and exponential deep states with characteristic parameters for <I>N</I> TA = 1.1 × 1017 cm-3 · eV-1, <I>N</I> DA = 4 × 1015 cm-3 · eV-1, <I>kT</I> TA = 0.09 eV, and <I>kT</I> DA = 0.4 eV. The proposed technique allows obtaining the frequency-independent <I>C</I>-<I>V</I> curve, which is very useful for oxide semiconductor TFT modeling and characterization, and considers the nonlinear relation between the energy level of DOS and the gate voltage <I>V</I> GS. In addition, it is a simple, fast, and accurate extraction method for DOS in amorphous InGaZnO TFTs without optical illumination, temperature dependence, and numerical iteration.</P>

Objective-Although Type D personality has been associated with the prognosis of various cardiac diseases, few studies have investigated the influence of Type D personality on the cardiac and psychiatric prognoses of patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). Methods-Depression, anxiety, and quality of life were measured at baseline and 6 months. The recurrence of AF was measured during 1-year following radiofrequency catheter ablation (RFCA) for AF. The Kaplan-Meier method with log-rank tests were used to compare the cumulative recurrence of AF. ACox proportional hazard model was conducted to identify factors that contribute to the recurrence of AF. Results-A total of 236 patients admitted for RFCA were recruited. Patients with a Type D personality had higher levels of depression and anxiety and a poorer quality of life compared to controls. Although depression, anxiety, and quality of life had improved 6 months after RFCA, significant differences in psychiatric symptoms remained between patients with and without Type D personality. In the Cox models, the type of AF was the only factor that influenced the recurrence of AF. Conclusion-Our results suggest that Type D personality predominately influences psychological distress in patients with AF, but not the recurrence of AF.

Objective-A community survey was performed to investigate the factors and perspectives associated with happiness among the elderly in Korea (≥60 years). Methods-Eight hundred volunteers selected from participants in the Ansan Geriatric study (AGE study) were enrolled, and 706 completed the survey. The Happiness Questionnaire (HQ), which asks four questions about happiness, was administered. To explore the relationship between happiness and depression, the Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS) and the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) also were administered. Results-The participants’ average level of happiness, determined using a 100-mm visual analogue scale (VAS) of the HQ, was 64.7± 26.0. The happiest situations for most people were “getting together with family” (23.8%) and “living in peace with family members (well-being)” (13.2%). Frequent reasons for not being happy were “worsened health condition” (28.7% of the not-happy group), “economic problems of their own” (16.5%), and “economic problems of their children” (14.8%). The participants’ choices regarding the essential conditions for happiness were “good health” (65.3%) and “being with family” (20.5%). The BDI and GDS scores were negatively related to the happiness score. A preliminary scale [Happy (Haeng-Bok, 幸福) aging scale] based on the HQ for measuring the happiness level of the Korean elderly was suggested for follow-up studies. Conclusion-The most important factors determining the happiness of the community-dwelling elderly in Korea were good family relationships, economic stability, and good health. A higher depression score negatively impacted happiness among Korean elders. Further studies on the factors in their happiness are required.

The sandwich structure, consisting of a core and a face sheet, is used for lightweight structural application. Generally, cellular structures like honeycomb, foam, and lattice structures are utilized for the core. Among these, lattice structures have several advantages over other types of structures. In other studies, curved lattice structures were reported to have higher mechanical properties than straight structures by converting shear stresses acting on the structure into compressive stresses. Moreover, the addition of vertical struts can have a positive effect on the mechanical properties of the lattice structure. For the purpose, two lattice structures with Circle Arch (CC) and Circular Arch with a vertical column (CC_C) were studied, which were fabricated by using selective laser sintering was conducted. The result showed that CC_C has dramatic performance improvements in specific strength, modulus, and strain energy density compared to CC, confirming that vertical struts played a significant role in the lattice core. Finite element analysis was employed to determine the cause of the stress behavior of CC and CC_C. This study is expected to help design structurally superior lattice cores and sandwich structures.

In this study, we present a piezoelectric artificial basilar membrane (ABM) composed of a 10-channel aluminum nitridebeam array. Each beam varies in length from 1306 to 3194 μm for mimicking the frequency selectivity of the cochlea. Tocharacterize the frequency selectivity of the ABM, we measured the mechanical displacement and piezoelectric outputwhile applying acoustic stimulus at 100 dB sound pressure level in the range of 500 Hz–40 kHz. The resonance frequenciesmeasured by mechanical displacement and piezoelectric output were in the range of 10.56–36.5 and 10.9–37.0 kHz,respectively. In addition, the electrical stimulus was applied to the ABMs to compare the mechanical responses in air andfluid. The measured resonance frequencies were in the range of 11.1–47.7 kHz in the air and 3.10–11.9 kHz in the fluid. Understanding the characteristics of the ABM is important for its potential use as a key technology for auditory prostheses.
