ASPPMVSNet: A high-receptive-field multiview stereo network for dense three-dimensional reconstruction

        Saleh Saeed(Saleh Saeed ),Sungjun Lee(Sungjun Lee),Yongju Cho(Yongju Cho),Unsang Park(Unsang Park) 한국전자통신연구원 2022 ETRI Journal Vol.44 No.6

The learning-based multiview stereo (MVS) methods for three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction generally use 3D volumes for depth inference. The quality of the reconstructed depth maps and the corresponding point clouds is directly influenced by the spatial resolution of the 3D volume. Consequently, these methods produce point clouds with sparse local regions because of the lack of the memory required to encode a high volume of information. Here, we apply the atrous spatial pyramid pooling (ASPP) module in MVS methods to obtain dense feature maps with multiscale, long-range, contextual information using high receptive fields. For a given 3D volume with the same spatial resolution as that in the MVS methods, the dense feature maps from the ASPP module encoded with superior information can produce dense point clouds without a high memory footprint. Furthermore, we propose a 3D loss for training the MVS networks, which improves the predicted depth values by 24.44%. The ASPP module provides state-of-the-art qualitative results by constructing relatively dense point clouds, which improves the DTU MVS dataset benchmarks by 2.25% compared with those achieved in the previous MVS methods.

A study on presence quality and cybersickness in 2D, smartphone, and VR

Saleh Saeed,박운상 한국인터넷정보학회 2022 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.16 No.7

Recent improvements in technology have increased the consumption of virtual reality (VR) contents on immersive displays. The VR experience depends on the type of displays as well as the quality of VR contents. However, research on the impacts of VR content quality on VR experience and comparisons among different types of immersive display devices are lacking. In this study, VR contents created with our VR framework, are provided to participants on conventional two-dimensional (2D) immersive displays and VR headset. The geometric alignment of VR contents is improved with the addition of two calibration modes (i.e. preprocessing and straightening). The subjective feelings of presence and cybersickness experienced by participants while consuming VR contents created by our framework and commercial solutions are recorded in the form of questionnaires. The results of this study indicate that the improvements in VR quality lead to a better presence and less cybersickness in both conventional 2D displays and VR headset. Furthermore, the level of presence and cybersickness increases in VR headsets as compared to conventional 2D displays. Finally, the VR content quality improvements lead to a better VR experience for our VR framework as compared to commercial solutions.

Free vibration analysis of axially moving laminated beams with axial tension based on 1D refined theories using Carrera unified formulation

        Behnam Daraei,Saeed Shojaee,Saleh Hamzehei-Javaran 국제구조공학회 2020 Steel and Composite Structures, An International J Vol.37 No.1

In this paper, free vibration finite element analysis of axially moving laminated composite beams subjected to axial tension is studied. It is assumed that the beam has a constant axial velocity and is subject to uniform axial tension. The analysis is based on higher-order theories that have been presented by Carrera Unified Formulation (CUF). In the CUF technique, the three dimensional (3D) displacement fields are expressed as the approximation of the arbitrary order of the displacement unknowns over the cross-section. This higher-order expansion is considered in equivalent single layer (ESL) model. The governing equations of motion are obtained via Hamilton’s principle. Finally, several numerical examples are presented and the effect of the ply-angle, travelling speed and axial tension on the natural frequencies and beam stability are demonstrated.

The effect of alpha-lipoic acid supplementation on anthropometric, glycemic, lipid, oxidative stress, and hormonal parameters in individuals with polycystic ovary syndrome: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized clinical trials

        Ahmed Abu-Zaid,Saeed Baradwan,Ibtihal Abdulaziz Bukhari,Abdullah Alyousef,Mohammed Abuzaid,Saleh A. K. Saleh,Heba M. Adly,Osama Alomar,Ismail Abdulrahman Al-Badawi 대한산부인과학회 2024 Obstetrics & Gynecology Science Vol.67 No.1

This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to examine the effect of the antioxidant alpha-lipoic acid (ALA) on various cardiometabolic risk factors and hormonal parameters in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). We searched PubMed, EMBASE, SCOPUS, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science databases without language restrictions until May 2023 to find randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that assessed the impact of ALA supplementation on anthropometric, glycemic, lipid, oxidative stress, and hormonal parameters in women with PCOS. Outcomes were summarized using the standardized mean difference (SMD) and 95% confidence interval (CI) in a random-effects model. An I2 statistic of >60% established significant between-study heterogeneity. The overall certainty of the evidence for each outcome was determined using the grading of recommendations, assessment, development, and evaluations system. Seven RCTs met the inclusion criteria. The ALA group had significant reductions in fasting blood sugar (fasting blood sugar (FBS), n=7 RCTs, SMD, -0.60; 95% CI, -1.10 to -0.10; I2=63.54%, moderate certainty of evidence) and homeostatic model assessment for insulin resistance (homeostatic model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR), n=4 RCTs, SMD, -2.03; 95% CI, -3.85 to -0.20; I2=96.32%, low certainty of evidence) compared with the control group. However, significant differences were observed between the groups in body mass index, insulin, estrogen, follicle-stimulating hormone, luteinizing hormone, testosterone, low-density lipoprotein, highdensity lipoprotein, triglyceride, total cholesterol, malondialdehyde, or total antioxidant capacity profiles. ALA supplementation improves FBS and HOMA-IR levels in women with PCOS. ALA consumption is an effective complementary therapy for the management of women with PCOS.

      • Clinico-Pathological Patterns and Survival Outcome of Colorectal Cancer in Young Patients: Western Saudi Arabia Experience

Elsamany, Shereef Ahmed,Alzahrani, Abdullah Saeed,Mohamed, Mervat Mahrous,Elmorsy, Soha Ali,Zekri, Jamal Eddin,Al-Shehri, Ahmed Saleh,Haggag, Rasha Mostafa,Alnagar, Ahmed Abdel-Reheem,El Taani, Hani A Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.13

Background: The prognosis of young colorectal cancer (CRC) patients has been addressed by several studies but with contradictory results. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the clinico-pathological features of young Saudi patients with CRC in addition to displaying their survival outcome. Materials and Methods: In this retrospective study, young CRC patients (${\leq}40$ years) diagnosed between 2007 and 2011 from 4 centres in western Saudi Arabia, were included. Clinico-pathological features, tumor markers, dates of disease relapse and death were collected. Survival parameters were compared with those of older Saudi patients, reported in previous studies. Results: One hundred and sixteen young patients with CRC were identified (32.2% rectal, 67.8% colon). Some 44% were metastatic while 32.7% had stage III at diagnosis. Patients with grade 3 tumors made up 29.4% of the total while 49.5% had positive lymphovascular invasion (LVI), 56% had a lymph node (LN) ratio ${\geq}0.2$ and 40.2% were K-ras mutant. Median disease-free survival (DFS) and overall survival (OS) in non-metastatic cases were 22.8 and 49.6 months respectively with better median DFS in K-ras wild compared to mutant patients (28.5 vs 20.9 months, p=0.005). In metastatic cases, median OS was 19.5 months. These survival outcomes are inferior compared to those of older Saudi patients reported in prior studies. Conclusions: Young CRC patients present more commonly with advanced stage and a high incidence of adverse prognostic factors such as LVI and high LN ratio. Young CRC patients seem to have worse survival compared to older Saudi patients.

Structural design with dynamic constraints using weighted chaos game optimization

        Goodarzimehr Vahid,Talatahari Siamak,Shojaee Saeed,Hamzehei-Javaran Saleh,Sareh Pooya 한국CDE학회 2022 Journal of computational design and engineering Vol.9 No.6

The chaos game optimization (CGO) algorithm is a recently developed metaheuristic inspired by chaos theory and fractal configurations. In CGO, possible optimal solutions are defined as seeds and the searching process is performed using some simple equations. In this paper, weighted chaos game optimization (WCGO) is proposed and implemented to optimize engineering structures with dynamic constraints. In this method, an inertia weight coefficient based on the minimum and maximum values of the objective function is introduced to create a better balance between exploration and exploitation during the searching process. By applying the inertia weight coefficient to the seeds, their positions can be controlled accurately. To evaluate the performance of WCGO, a wide range of mathematical benchmark functions, as well as several structural design optimization problems under dynamic constraints, are computationally investigated using the new algorithm. In order to demonstrate the efficiency and robustness of WCGO, its results have been compared with those obtained by some conventional methods from the literature. Additionally, a Friedman rank test is conducted to perform a statistical study on the performance of the considered algorithms. The findings indicate that WCGO performs better than its rivals in solving these structural optimization problems with dynamic constraints.

Tissues toxicity attenuation by vitamin E on oxidative damage induced by diazinon

        Kavoos Tahmasebi,Mahvash Jafari,Javad Heydari,Alireza Asgari,Maryam Salehi,Saeed Khazaie,Mohammad Saleh Abedini 5 환경독성보건학회 2022 환경독성보건학회지 Vol.37 No.4

Organophosphorus insecticides such as diazinon (DZN) are used worldwide in industry, veterinary practice, and agriculture. They may induce oxidative stress in different tissues. The use of antioxidants can protect tissues against oxidative stress. The aim of this study was to investigate the prophylactic and therapeutic roles of vitamin E against DZN–induced oxidative damage and biochemical alterations in various tissues of male Wistar rats. Thirty rats were divided into five groups: Control group received only corn oil as DZN solvent, DZN group received 100 mg/kg of DZN, E group received 150 mg/kg of vitamin E, E-DZN group received vitamin E and then dosed with DZN and DZN-E group received DZN and then dosed with vitamin E. All injections were carried out intraperitoneally. Plasma and various tissues were prepared and evaluated. Results showed that acute administration of DZN caused a significant induction of oxidative damage in the tested tissues via increased malondialdehyde level and some plasma biochemical indices, depletion of glutathione (GSH), reduced cholinesterase activity and change in the activities of superoxide dismutase, catalase and glutathione-S transferase. Treatment of rats with vitamin E resulted in an elevation in the level of GSH, normalizing the antioxidant enzymes activities and decreasing lipid peroxidation, although all these tests did not return to the normal level in certain tissues. The findings of this study suggest that both prophylactic and therapeutic treatments of rats with vitamin E provide a protective role against DZN-induced oxidative stress and cholinergic hyperactivity through free radicals scavenging and membrane stabilizing.

      • Mechanical, rheological, and durability analysis of self-consolidating concretes containing recycled aggregates

Hiwa Mollaei,Taleb Moradi Shaghaghi,Hasan Afshin,Reza Saleh Ahari,Seyed Saeed Mirrezaei 국제구조공학회 2023 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.88 No.2

In the present paper, the effect of recycled aggregates on the rheological and mechanical properties of selfconsolidating concrete is investigated experimentally and numerically. Hence, the specimen with two types of recycled aggregates, i.e., known and unknown resistance origins, are utilized for the studied specimens. The experiments in this study are designed using the Box-Behnken method, which is one of the response surface methods. Input variables in mixtures include silica fume in the range of 5-15% as a percentage substitute for cement weight and recycled coarse and fine aggregates in the range of 0-50% for both series of recycled materials as a substitute for natural materials. The studied responses are slump flow, V funnel, compressive strength, tensile strength, and durability. The results indicate that the increase in the amount of recycled aggregates reduces the rheological and mechanical properties of the mixtures, while silica fume effectively improves the mechanical properties. In addition, the results demonstrate that the fine recycled aggregates affect the total response of the concrete significantly. The results of tensile and compressive strengths indicate that the mixtures including 50% recycled materials with known resistance origin demonstrate better responses up to 8 and 10% compared to the materials with unknown resistance origins, respectively. Recycled materials with a specific resistance origin also show better results than recycled materials with an unknown resistance origin. Durability test results represent those concretes containing recycled coarse aggregates have lower strength compared to recycled fine aggregates. Also, a series of mathematical relationships for all the responses are presented using variance analysis to predict mixtures’ rheological and mechanical properties.
