Mental Exercises for Cognitive Function: Clinical Evidence
Ryuta Kawashima 대한예방의학회 2013 Journal of Preventive Medicine and Public Health Vol.46 No.suppl
The purpose of this study was to examine the beneficial effects of a new cognitive intervention program designed for the care and prevention of dementia, namely Learning Therapy. The training program used systematized basic problems in arithmetic and Japanese language as training tasks. In study 1, 16 individuals in the experimental group and 16 in the control group were recruited from a nursing home. In both groups, all individuals were clinically diagnosed with senile dementia of the Alzheimer type. In study 2, we performed a single-blind, randomized controlled trial in our cognitive intervention program of 124 community-dwelling seniors. In both studies, the daily training program using reading and arithmetic tasks was carried out approximately 5 days a week, for 15 to 20 minutes a day in the intervention groups. Neuropsychological measures were determined simultaneously in the groups both prior to and after six months of the intervention. The results of our investigations indicate that our cognitive intervention using reading and arithmetic problems demonstrated a transfer effect and they provide convincing evidence that cognitive training maintains and improves the cognitive functions of dementia patients and healthy seniors.
Language and Family Dispersion: North Korean Linguist Kim Su-gyŏng and the Korean War
Ryuta Itagaki 고려대학교 민족문화연구원 2017 Cross-Currents Vol.- No.22
This article analyzes the unpublished memoir of Kim Su-gyŏng (1918–2000), a linguist who was active in North Korea from the mid-1940s until the late 1960s, and situates his account of his experience of the Korean War within the context of his linguistic essays and correspondence. In doing so, the article considers the role that the personal and the social play in language, utilizing Saussure’s theoretical framework, with which Kim himself was well versed. Kim wrote his memoirs in the 1990s to his family, from whom he had become separated during the Korean War and who now lived in Toronto. In this text, he writes in “personal” language that reveals his uncertainty and his feelings for his family, but then immediately negates these feelings through the use of “social” language, which resonates with his interpretation of the linguistic thesis that Josef Stalin developed during the Korean War on language and national identity. For Kim, the relationship between language and nation was not at all self-evident, but something that he idealized in response to the dispersal of his family. By offering a reflexive reading of a memoir written by a North Korean linguist, this article makes a breakthrough in the investigation of North Korean wartime academic history, which has not risen above the level of analyzing articles in the field of linguistics that were published at the time.
Adaptive Input Estimation of a Hodgkin-Huxley Neuron
Ryuta Ito,Yusuke Totoki,Haruo Suemitsu,Takami Matsuo 제어로봇시스템학회 2009 제어로봇시스템학회 국제학술대회 논문집 Vol.2009 No.8
In this paper, we propose an a daptive observer based on the HH model equations without any linearization method. The nonlinear adaptive observer based on the HH dynamic structure is proposed to estimate the internal states and the input current of a HH neuron. The input current is estimated as a slow-varying parameter using the adaptive parameter update law with a signum function. The MATLAB simulations demonstrate the estimation performance of the proposed adaptive observers.
A study of "Listen" and "Hear"
Ryuta Baba,Yuki Mochizuki,Takashi Toriizuka,Yoshinori Horie 대한인간공학회 2010 대한인간공학회 학술대회논문집 Vol.2010 No.5
Recently, the portable audio players such as iPods are widespread. In this context, more people listen to music with headphones, and some people accidents such as the bicycles, cars or trains happen. People with headphones are shut off from surrounding sounds. So they can’t perceive sound information necessary to avoid the accidents. That’s why they have accidents. Then in this study it pays attention importantly of the balance of "Listen" and "Hear" that is the act that humans obtains outside auditory information as an influence that the headphone use in outdoor exerts on the perception function of aural, and in the present study, the measurement of the P300 event-related-potential(ERP) is used and examined. “Listen" means outside auditory information is actively obtained."Hear" means outside auditory information is felt passive with the ear. The tests subject the schoolboy who was listening to music daily by the healthy physically and mentally. Experimental conditions set three conditions when a normal headphone is used and when the headphone is not used when it uses noise-canceling headphone. The experimental methodology is tried by the ‘oddball’ Paradigm using the auditory stimulus that can be two kinds of discern it. The auditory stimuli use the bell sound of the bicycle and the running sound of the car. Target stimulus is a bell sound of the bicycle. Non-target stimulus is assumed to be a running sound of the car.
An Area-Efficient GF(2m) MSD Multiplier based on an MSB Multiplier for Elliptic Curve LSI
Ryuta Nara,Kazunori Shimizu,Shunitsu Kohara 대한전자공학회 2007 ITC-CSCC :International Technical Conference on Ci Vol.2007 No.7
In this paper, we propose an MSD (most significant digit) multiplier based on an MSB (most significant bit) multiplier over GF(2m). The proposed multiplier is based on connecting D (digit size)-bit bit-operations in series. In each digit operation in our proposed multiplier, the “left shift and reduction operation” is serially performed for each of D bits. Because registers for storing intermediate computational results have only m bit independent of digit size of D, we can reduce register size compared to conventional digit-serial multipliers. We also implemented an ECC LSI using the proposed MSD multiplier.
MULTIPLE CHANNELS AND GOVERNANCE MECHANISMS IN AN INTERNATIONAL CONTEXT: FINDINGS FROM fsQCA
Ryuta Ishii 글로벌지식마케팅경영학회 2023 Global Marketing Conference Vol.2023 No.07
Previous studies do not provide information on which channel governance exporters should use in combination. Moreover, they neglect the role of multiple channel system and psychic distance in the implementation of channel governance. Accordingly, this study investigates the combined effects of channel governance, multiple channels, and psychic distance on export performance. The methodology used in this study is a fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA), which is a powerful method for analyzing whether combinations of conditions (i.e., configurations) lead to certain outcomes. The results show that which channel governance combination leads to higher export performance depends on multichannel use and on psychic distance. This study contributes to the advancement of international marketing channel research by identifying patterns in superior combinations of governance mechanisms.
