High selectivity and removal efficiency of lotus root-based activated carbon towards Fe(III) in La(III) solution

        Rui-Yan Wu,Yong Wang,Xiao-Yan Xue,Fu-Qiang An,Tuo-Ping Hu,Jian-Feng Gao 한국화학공학회 2018 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.35 No.3

Rare earth elements are an important strategic resource. However, a trace of Fe(III) impurity has serious adverse impact on the performance of rare earth materials. We synthesized a novel nitrogen-containing carbon material, ACLR-400, using lotus root as raw materials. The ACLR-400 was characterized by surface area analyzer, elemental analysis and FT-IR. The selectivity and removal efficiency of ACLR-400 towards Fe(III) were also investigated. The BET specific surface area of ACLR-400 was 68.44m2·g−1, and the average pore diameter was 12.54 nm. With abundant nitrogen- containing functional groups and well-developed internal pore structure, ACLR-400 possesses strong adsorption affinity, excellent selectivity and removal efficiency for Fe(III). The adsorption capacity of ACLR-400 towards Fe(III) could reach to 0.46mmol·g−1, selectivity coefficient with respect to La(III) was 8.9, and removal efficiency was 99.61%. The adsorption isotherm data greatly obey the Freundlich isotherm. In addition, ACLR-400 can be regenerated easily and possesses better regeneration ability and reusability.

        Wu, Qing-Wu,Yan, Rui-Fang,Li, Qiang,Hu, Ying,Zhou, Feng-Mei,Ren, Ji-Peng,Yang, Rui-Min,Zhang, Yan Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2013 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.14 No.11

Through retrospective analysis of 13 cases of magnetic resonance image (MRI) manifestations of atypical meningiomas confirmed by operation and pathology in the First Affiliated Hospital of Xinxiang Medical University, the objective of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic value of MRI in order to improve the accuracy rate of preoperative diagnosis. In this retrospective analysis of MRI findings for atypical meningiomas in First Affiliated Hospital of Xinxiang Medical University from January to July in 2012, the location, morphology and tumor signals and other tumor imaging characteristics were covered. In 13 cases of atypical meningioma patients of this group, most tumors were located at typical sites (10/13), mainly the falx cerebri, parasagittal, convexity, saddle area. Only two cases were at atypical locations, 1 in the cerebellar hemisphere and 1 in a lateral ventricle. Most of the tumors showed T1 and T2 isointensity signals, and necrosis, calcification, and peritumoral edema were always featured. DWI showed isointensity in 11 cases (11/13), and hyperintensity in 2. Some 9 cases had dural tail signs, 12 had accurate positioning (12/13), and 2 were postoperative recurrences. MRI has high value in the diagnosis of atypical meningiomas, with important roles in early clinical diagnosis, treatment and prognosis evaluation.

Sequential anti-inflammatory and osteogenic effects of a dual drug delivery scaffold loaded with parthenolide and naringin in periodontitis

        Rui Chen,Mengting Wang,Qiaoling Qi,Yanli Tang,Zhenzhao Guo,Shuai Wu,Qiyan Li 대한치주과학회 2023 Journal of Periodontal & Implant Science Vol.53 No.1

Purpose: Our pilot study showed that a 3-dimensional dual drug delivery scaffold (DDDS) loaded with Chinese herbs significantly increased the regenerated bone volume fraction. This study aimed to confirm the synergistic anti-inflammatory and osteogenic preclinical effects of this system. Methods: The targets and pathways of parthenolide and naringin were predicted. Three cell models were used to assess the anti-inflammatory effects of parthenolide and the osteogenic effects of naringin. First, the distance between the cementoenamel junction and alveolar bone crest (CEJ-ABC) and the bone mineral density (BMD) of surgical defects were measured in a rat model of periodontitis with periodontal fenestration defects. Additionally, the mRNA expression levels of matrix metallopeptidase 9 (MMP9) and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) were measured. Furthermore, the number of inflammatory cells and osteoclasts, as well as the protein expression levels of tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) and levels of ALP were determined. Results: Target prediction suggested prostaglandin peroxidase synthase (PTGS2) as a potential target of parthenolide, while cytochrome P450 family 19 subfamily A1 (CYP19A1) and taste 2 receptor member 31 (TAS2R31) were potential targets of naringin. Parthenolide mainly targeted inflammation-related pathways, while naringin participated in steroid hormone synthesis and taste transduction. In vitro experiments revealed significant antiinflammatory effects of parthenolide on RAW264.7 cells, and significant osteogenic effects of naringin on bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells and MC3T3-E1 cells. DDDS loaded with parthenolide and naringin decreased the CEJ-ABC distance and increased BMD and ALP levels in a time-dependent manner. Inflammation was significantly alleviated after 14 days of DDDS treatment. Additionally, after 56 days, the DDDS group exhibited the highest BMD and ALP levels. Conclusions: DDDS loaded with parthenolide and naringin in a rat model achieved significant synergistic anti-inflammatory and osteogenic effects, providing powerful preclinical evidence.

Extraction of Different Types of Geometrical Features from Raw Sensor Data of Two-dimensional LRF

        Rui-Jun Yan(염서군),Jing Wu(무경),Chao Yuan(원조),Chang-Soo Han(한창수) 제어로봇시스템학회 2015 제어·로봇·시스템학회 논문지 Vol.21 No.3

This paper describes extraction methods of five different types of geometrical features (line, arc, corner, polynomial curve, NURBS curve) from the obtained raw data by using a two-dimensional laser range finder (LRF). Natural features with their covariance matrices play a key role in the realization of feature-based simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM), which can be used to represent the environment and correct the pose of mobile robot. The covariance matrices of these geometrical features are derived in detail based on the raw sensor data and the uncertainty of LRF. Several comparison are made and discussed to highlight the advantages and drawbacks of each type of geometrical feature. Finally, the extracted features from raw sensor data obtained by using a LRF in an indoor environment are used to validate the proposed extraction methods.

      • Natural Corners-based Two-Dimensional (2D) SLAM with Partial Compatibility Algorithm in Indoor Environment

        Rui-Jun Yan,Jing Wu,Chao Yuan,Ji-Yeong Lee,Chang-Soo Han 제어로봇시스템학회 2014 제어로봇시스템학회 국제학술대회 논문집 Vol.2014 No.10

This paper presents a natural corners-based two-dimensional (2D) Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) with a robust data association algorithm in a real unknown environment. The corners are extracted from raw laser sensor data and chosen as landmarks for correcting the pose of mobile robot and building the map. In the proposed data association method, the extracted corners in every step are separated into several groups with small numbers of corners. In each group, the local best matching vector between the new corners and the stored ones is found by joint compatibility, while the nearest feature for every new corner is checked by individual compatibility. All these groups with local best matching vector and nearest feature candidate of each new corner are combined by partial compatibility with the linear matching time. The SLAM experiment results in an indoor environment based on the extracted corners show good robustness and low computation complexity of the proposed algorithms in comparison with existing methods.

      • Induced Abortion and Breast Cancer: Results from a Population-Based Case Control Study in China

        Wu, Jun-Qing,Li, Yu-Yan,Ren, Jing-Chao,Zhao, Rui,Zhou, Ying,Gao, Er-Sheng Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.8

Aim: To determine whether induced abortion (IA) increases breast cancer (BC) risk. Materials and Methods: A population-based case-control study was performed from Dec, 2000 to November, 2004 in Shanghai, China, where IA could be verified through the family planning network and client medical records. Structured questionnaires were completed by 1,517 cases with primary invasive epithelial breast cancer and 1,573 controls frequency-matched to cases for age group. The information was supplemented and verified by the family planning records. Statistical analysis was conducted with SAS 9.0. Results: After adjusting for potential confounders, induced abortions were not found to be associated with breast cancer with OR=0.94 (95%CI= 0.79-1.11). Compared to parous women without induced abortion, parous women with 3 or more times induced abortion (OR=0.66, 95%CI=0.46 to 0.95) and women with 3 or more times induced abortion after the first live birth (OR=0.66, 95%CI =0.45 to 0.97) showed a lower risk of breast cancer, after adjustment for age, level of education, annual income per capita, age at menarche, menopause, parity times, spontaneous abortion, age at first live birth, breast-feeding, oral contraceptives, hormones drug, breast disease, BMI, drinking alcohol, drinking tea, taking vitamin/calcium tablet, physical activity, vocation, history of breast cancer, eating the bean. Conclusions: The results suggest that a history of induced abortions may not increase the risk of breast cancer.

Detection of Myocardial Metabolic Abnormalities by 18F-FDG PET/CT and Corresponding Pathological Changes in Beagles with Local Heart Irradiation

        Rui Yan,Jianbo Song,Zhifang Wu,Min Guo,Jianzhong Liu,Jianguo Li,Xinzhong Hao,Sijin Li 대한영상의학회 2015 Korean Journal of Radiology Vol.16 No.4

To determine the efficacy of 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (18F-FDG PET/CT) in the detection of radiation-induced myocardial damage in beagles by comparing two pre-scan preparation protocols as well as to determine the correlation between abnormal myocardial FDG uptake and pathological findings. The anterior myocardium of 12 beagles received radiotherapy locally with a single X-ray dose of 20 Gy. 18F-FDG cardiac PET/CT was performed at baseline and 3 months after radiation. Twelve beagles underwent two protocols before PET/CT: 12 hours of fasting (12H-F), 12H-F followed by a high-fat diet (F-HFD). Regions of interest were drawn on the irradiation and the non-irradiation fields to obtain their maximal standardized uptake values (SUVmax). Then the ratio of the SUV of the irradiation to the non-irradiation fields (INR) was computed. Histopathological changes were identified by light and electron microscopy. Using the 12H-F protocol, the average INRs were 1.18 ± 0.10 and 1.41 ± 0.18 before and after irradiation, respectively (p = 0.021). Using the F-HFD protocol, the average INRs were 0.99 ± 0.15 and 2.54 ± 0.43, respectively (p < 0.001). High FDG uptake in irradiation field was detected in 33.3% (4/12) of 12H-F protocol and 83.3% (10/12) of F-HFD protocol in visual analysis, respectively (p = 0.031). The pathology of the irradiated myocardium showed obvious perivascular fibrosis and changes in mitochondrial vacuoles. High FDG uptake in an irradiated field may be related with radiation-induced myocardial damage resulting from microvascular damage and mitochondrial injury. An F-HFD preparation protocol used before obtaining PET/CT can improve the sensitivity of the detection of cardiotoxicity associated with radiotherapy.

Stable pH sensitivity of LaAlO3/SrTiO3 interfacial electronic gas

        Dong Yan,Zhang Lunyong,Li Chen,Liu Yanli,Shao Pengfei,Lei Jianming,Wang Rui,Wu Di,Chen Dunjun,Zhang Rong,Zheng Youdou 한국물리학회 2022 Current Applied Physics Vol.34 No.-

Probing pH value is essential for many applications. The request of developing stable and highly sensitive pH sensor with small size are increased recently, this is a challenge to the traditional glass pH sensors. This work investigated the pH sensing performance of the novel two-dimensional electronic gas (2DEG) at the LaAlO3/ SrTiO3 heterostructure interface discovered recently. The experimental results demonstrated that the devices host excellent sensing ability to the pH value of aqueous solutions. Quite stable output current is realized for a given pH value, and the output current is linearly dependent on pH value as required by sensor applications. This work would prompt the application research of LaAlO3/SrTiO3 heterostructure and design of new generation of advanced pH sensors.

High Yield Rhizopus chinenisis Prolipase Production in Pichia pastoris: Impact of Methanol Concentration

        Dan Wu,Xiao Wei Yu,Tong Chun Wang,Rui Wang,Yan Xu 한국생물공학회 2011 Biotechnology and Bioprocess Engineering Vol.16 No.2

Rhizopus lipases have been successfully expressed in Pichia pastors and different fermentation strategies have been investigated. However, there is no sufficient study on the effects of methanol concentration on the production of Rhizopus lipases in P. pastors. In this study, the lipase from Rhizopus chinensis CCTCC M20102 was expressed under different fed-batch fermentation conditions at methanol concentrations ranging from 0.5 to 3.5 g/L. The lipase activity, stability, and productivities were analyzed. The optimum methanol concentration was 1 g/L, with the highest lipase activity of 2,130 U/mL, without degradation. Additional information was obtained from the analysis of methanol consumption and production rates. The results also suggested that the cell concentration at the end of the glycerol fed-batch phase was very important for cell viability and protease activity.
