Pretreatment with Trichoderma sp. AH promotes directional conversion of organic nitrogen compounds in supercritical methanolysis of wheat straw

Quan-Xi Zheng,Chuan-Yong Yan,Mu-Wei Zhu 한국공업화학회 2023 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.128 No.-

The specificity and conversion of supercritical methanolysis of wheat straw (WS) and rice straw (RS) canbe enhanced by Pretreatment using Trichoderma sp. AH, particularly the esters of the methanol-solubleportion (MSP) of WS and RS in supercritical methanolysis. However, only about 100 organic compoundsof lower volatility and polarity could be detected in MSP by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Electrospray ionization Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry was used to determinethe organic nitrogen compounds (ONCs) in the MSPs from supercritical methanolysis of raw andpretreated WS with Trichoderma sp. AH. The most prevalent ONCs in the MSPs of native and pretreatedWSs in the positive ion mode would be N2On (n = 1–9) species having twin-bonding equivalence values(2–25) together with carbon-atom numbers of 4–35. Peak prevalent ONC within prior-treated WS MSPs isN2O4, with the most abundant ONC in raw WS MSPs is N2O5. These results help to understand the impactof Trichoderma sp. AH pretreatment upon converting ability/specificity for ONCs within WS methanolysisand employing MSP in producing jet fuel.

      • Effect of Tea Polyphenols on the Adhesion of Highly Metastatic Human Lung Carcinoma Cell Lines to Endothelial Cells in Vitro

Zheng, Feng-Jin,Shi, Lin,Yang, Jun,Deng, Xiao-Hui,Wu, Yu-Quan,Yan, Xi-Qing,Huang, Ning Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.8

Aim: Tea polyphenols are known to play roles in critical steps of human lung carcinoma cell metastasis. For understanding the mechanisms whereby they inhibit tumor metastasis, the present study was conducted to investigate their effects on the adhesion of highly metastatic lung carcinoma cell lines (PG cells) to endothelial cells (EC cells) and adhesion molecule expression in vitro. Methods: The expression of CD44 or CD54 in the PG cells was detected by flow cytometry and adhesion of PG cells to EC cells was assessed by confocal microscopy double fluorescence staining. Results: The results showed that tea polyphenols: (1) inhibited the expression of CD44 and CD54, two important adhesion molecules in the PG cells in a dose-dependent manner; (2) significantly blocked the adhesion of PG cells to EC cells not only in a state of rest but also when active; and (3) influenced CD44 and CD54 expression during the adhesion process of PG cells to EC cells. Conclusions: The data indicated that the blocking role of tea polyphenols in the adhesion of PG cells to EC cells is related to CD44 and CD54. The mechanism of tea polyphenol prevention of human lung carcinoma metastasis might be through inhibiting adhesion molecule expression to block cancer cell adhesion.

Mesenchymal Stem Cells on a Decellularized Cartilage Matrix for Cartilage Tissue Engineering

        Xi-Fu Zheng,Shi-Bi Lu,Wei-Guo Zhang,Shu-Yun Liu,Jing-Xiang Huang,Quan-Yi Guo 한국생물공학회 2011 Biotechnology and Bioprocess Engineering Vol.16 No.3

An ideal scaffold for cartilage tissue engineering should be biomimetic in not only its biochemical composition, but also in the morphological structure of the scaffold. In this study, we fabricated a scaffold with an oriented structure using a nanofibrous articular cartilage extracellular matrix (ACECM), in which the ACECM was used to mimic the biochemical composition and oriented structure of articular cartilage. Histology analysis showed that the scaffold contained cartilage ECM (GAGs and collagen II). Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) indicated that the scaffolds were composed of nanofibers and possessed vertical microtubules. Chondrogenic differentiation-induced mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) were seeded on the scaffold in vitro. SEM showed that MSCs proliferated well and aligned along the vertical microtubules, which mimicked the orientation of deep zone articular cartilage. A cell proliferation assay and live/dead cell staining demonstrated that the ACECM possessed good cell affinity, which favored cell adherence and proliferation. The MSCs that had been labeled with the fluorescent dye PKH26 and seeded on scaffolds were implanted into nude mice. The differentiated cells/ACECM implants formed cartilage-like tissue 4 weeks after implantation, and stained positive for collagen type II and toluidine blue. In addition, the in vivo fluorescent images verified that the MSCs in the implants were the labeled MSCs. These results demonstrated that the oriented ACECM scaffolds hold great promise for use in cartilage tissue engineering applications.

      • Time Trends of Esophageal Cancer Mortality in Linzhou City During the Period 1988-2010 and a Bayesian Approach Projection for 2020

        Liu, Shu-Zheng,Zhang, Fang,Quan, Pei-Liang,Lu, Jian-Bang,Liu, Zhi-Cai,Sun, Xi-Bin Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.9

In recent decades, decreasing trends in esophageal cancer mortality have been observed across China. We here describe esophageal cancer mortality trends in Linzhou city, a high-incidence region of esophageal cancer in China, during 1988-2010 and make a esophageal cancer mortality projection in the period 2011-2020 using a Bayesian approach. Age standardized mortality rates were estimated by direct standardization to the World population structure in 1985. A Bayesian age-period-cohort (BAPC) analysis was carried out in order to investigate the effect of the age, period and birth cohort on esophageal cancer mortality in Linzhou during 1988-2010 and to estimate future trends for the period 2011-2020. Age-adjusted rates for men and women decreased from 1988 to 2005 and changed little thereafter. Risk increased from 30 years of age until the very elderly. Period effects showed little variation in risk throughout 1988-2010. In contrast, a cohort effect showed risk decreased greatly in later cohorts. Forecasting, based on BAPC modeling, resulted in a increasing burden of mortality and a decreasing age standardized mortality rate of esophageal cancer in Linzhou city. The decrease of esophageal cancer mortality risk since the 1930 cohort could be attributable to the improvements of socialeconomic environment and lifestyle. The standardized mortality rates of esophageal cancer should decrease continually. The effect of aging on the population could explain the increase in esophageal mortality projected for 2020.

Phase separation phenomena and thermodynamics of octylphenol polyoxyethylene ether in micellar solutions: Effect of high concentration of inorganic salts and linear correlation

Dan Ni Li,Jing Huang,Zhao Hua Ren,Rui Sheng,Zheng Bo Qian,Bei Bei Li,Xiao Feng Quan,Ye Xi Zhang,Jun Ru Wang,Huan Tian 한국공업화학회 2021 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.99 No.-

The phase separationphenomena or cloud points (CP) behaviorof nonionic octylphenol polyoxyethylene etherwith oxyethylene glycol ether unit of 15 (OP-15) were investigated in aqueous micellar solutions containinghigh concentrations of inorganic salts including NaCl, KCl, MgCl2, CaCl2, BaCl2, AlCl3, FeCl3, Na2SO4and Na2SiO3. The change in CP induced by salts and its mechanism are discussed theoretically. In aqueous solutionscontaining high concentration of salt, for thefirst time the linear relationship between CP and saltconcentrationiswellestablishedtocharacterizethedepressionofCP.Basedonpseudophaseseparationmodel, thermodynamic parameters are estimated and adopted to further describe the phase separation process andthe interactions between OP-15 molecules or the OP-15/water interactions. Thermodynamic parametersincluding standard Gibbs energy change (DG0CP), enthalpy change (DH0CP) and entropy change (DS0CP)indicate that the additions of different salts result in the change in entropy-driven nonspontaneousprocess of phase separation. These data, which are from the compensation temperatures and the changeof molar heat capacity, also prove that different ions induce the change in the interactions betweensurfactant molecules or the surfactant–water interaction and thus affect the depression of CP. Thesefindings help with understanding the effect of inorganic salts, especially the high concentration of salt, onCP of nonionic surfactant and then broadening the application of nonionic surfactant based on CP such asthe extraction of biomaterials in biological samples derived from animals or plants, etc.

      • Prevalence of Human Papillomavirus 16 in Esophageal Cancer Among the Chinese Population: a Systematic Review and Meta-analysis

        Zhang, Shao-Kai,Guo, Lan-Wei,Chen, Qiong,Zhang, Meng,Liu, Shu-Zheng,Quan, Pei-Liang,Lu, Jian-Bang,Sun, Xi-Bin Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.23

Background and Aim: No firm evidence of HPV infection in esophageal cancer has been established to date. The aim of this meta-analysis was to investigate the prevalence of HPV 16 in esophageal cancer in China, which had a high burden of the disease. Materials and Methods: Studies on HPV infection and esophageal cancer were identified and a random-effects model was used to pool the summary prevalence and corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Results: A total of 3,429 esophageal cancer cases were evaluated from 26 eligible studies in this meta-analysis. The summary estimate for HPV16 prevalence was 0.381 (95% CI: 0.283, 0.479). The prevalence varied by geographical areas of the study, publication year, HPV detection method and types of specimen. In sensitivity analysis, HPV 16 prevalence ranged from 0.368 (95% CI: 0.276, 0.460) to 0.397 (95% CI: 0.286, 0.508). Conclusions: The results indicate a relatively high level of HPV 16 prevalence in esophageal cancer among Chinese population, although there was variation between different variables. Further studies are needed to elucidate the role of HPV in esophageal carcinogenesis with careful consideration of study design and laboratory detection method, providing more accurate assessment of the HPV status in esophageal cancer.
