Effect of sodium chloride on interaction between amino sulfonate amphoteric surfactant and octylphenol polyoxyethylene ether (10) in aqueous solution

Zhao Hua Ren 한국공업화학회 2015 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.30 No.-

In aqueous solution containing the NaCl of 0.25 mol/L, the micellization of binary mixtures of sodiumdodecyl diamino sulfonate (C12AS) and octylphenol polyoxyethylene ether (10) (OP-10) have beeninvestigated employing both the UV–vis spectroscopy method, using pyrene as a probe, and thetensiometric method. The values of critical micelle concentration (cmc) at different molar compositionsin the mixture of C12AS/OP-10 were determined by both the UV–vis spectroscopy measurement and thetensiometric measurement. Within the framework of pseudophase separation model, some parameters(including the ideal values of mixed cmc, the interaction parameters, components and activitycoefficients in mixed micelles, and thermodynamic parameters of micellization) were calculated usingvarious models and treatments, e.g. the regular solution theory, the ideal model from the Lang model, theRodenas’s treatment and the Motomura’s treatment, and the mechanism on effect of NaCl on theinteracting behavior between two surfactants was discussed. The results show that as compared to thecases in the absence of NaCl, the addition of NaCl enhances non-ideal mixing and synergism betweenC12AS and OP-10 in all mixed systems, mainly resulting from the decrease of the steric effect ofheadgroups of two surfactants and the increase of the ionic strength in aqueous solution. Thermodynamic data show that on adding NaCl the micellization for the mixtures of C12AS and OP-10 can proceed spontaneously, and is an enthalpy-driven process owing to the variation of hydrophobicproperties in aqueous solution.

Interacting behavior between amino sulfonate amphoteric surfactant and octylphenol polyoxyethylene ether (7) in aqueous solution and pH effect

Zhao Hua Ren 한국공업화학회 2014 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.20 No.5

The micellization properties of binary mixtures of sodium n-dodecyl diamine sulfonate (C12AS) and octylphenol polyoxyethylene ether (7), OP-7, in aqueous solution at the pH of 3.5, 6.0, and 8.5 have been characterized mainly employing both the UV–vis spectroscopy method, using pyrene as a probe, and the tensiometric method. The interaction parameters between two surfactants, the activity coefficients, the molar fractions of components in mixed micelles, and thermodynamic parameters obtained using some theoretical treatments including the regular solution theory (RST), the phase separation model, the Rubingh model, Maeda’s treatment, and so on, were evaluated and the effect of pH on the above parameters was also discussed. Reduction of the mixed critical micelle concentration and negative values of interaction parameter indicate synergistic effect between two surfactants for all mixed systems. The charge density and steric effect of head group of C12AS may play a vital role on the formation of mixed micelle, and the values of pH in aqueous solution can influence the ionic form of C12AS and this steric effect, thus resulting in different interacting behaviors between two surfactants. Thermodynamic data show that the process of micellization for all mixed systems is spontaneous, the stability of mixed micelle is mainly dependent on the components in bulk solution, and the more stable mixed micelle can form in neutral or weak acidic solution.

Micellization behavior of binary mixtures of amino sulfonate amphoteric surfactant with different octylphenol polyoxyethylene ethers in aqueous salt solution: Both cationic and hydrophilic effects

Zhao Hua Ren,Jing Huang,Yue Luo,Yan Cheng Zheng,Ping Mei,Lu Lai,Yan Ling Chang 한국공업화학회 2016 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.36 No.-

The effect of different valent inorganic cations and the hydrophilic group of surfactant on themicellization behavior of binary surfactant mixtures constituted by an amphoteric surfactant, sodium3-(N-dodecyl ethylenediamino)-2-hydropropyl sulfonate (C12AS), and three nonionic surfactantsoctylphenol polyoxyethylene ether (OP-n) with different numbers of oxyethylene glycol ethers (n),namely, OP-10, OP-7, and OP-4 was investigated in aqueous solution. These inorganic cations includeNa+, K+, Mg2+, Ca2+, Ba2+, Al3+ and Fe3+. Both the tensiometry and the UV–vis spectrophotometry usingpyrene as a probe were adopted to determine the critical micelle concentrations (cmc) of individual ormixed surfactants. Interaction parameters between two surfactants and other parameters were obtainedbased on the regular solution theory, the pseudophase separation model, Rubingh’s model, etc. Thermodynamic parameters including Gibbs energy of micellization and thermodynamic stability werealso calculated by both the equation proposed by Molyneux et al. and Maeda’s treatment, respectively. The effect of different valent cations on both the mixed cmc of surfactant mixtures and the molar fractionof C12AS in mixed micelle (X1) can be explained theoretically by the salting-out effect, electrostaticinteraction and steric effect. For three binary surfactant mixtures, the chain length of hydrophilic groupof surfactant results in different micellization behaviors. On adding salts, the interaction parametersshow that there exists a synergistic effect between two surfactants, and the effect increases withincreasing the ratio of valence (Z) and atom radius (R) of cation, especially, for the C12AS/OP-4 mixture. With increasing the Z/R value of cation, a deviation of X1 from the ideal value shows a divergence forthree binary surfactant mixtures because of different hydrophilicities of surfactant. Thermodynamicparameters indicate that the addition of cations with a large Z/R value can be contributive moreeffectively to the formation of stable mixed micelle than the case in the presence of cations with a smallZ/R value.

      • A Rapid and Efficient Pre-deployment Key Scheme for Secure Data Transmissions in Sensor Networks Using Lagrange Interpolation Polynomial

        Hua-Yi Lin,De-Jun Pan,Xin-Xiang Zhao,Zhi-Ren Qiu 보안공학연구지원센터 2008 International Journal of Security and Its Applicat Vol.2 No.3

This study proposes a pre-deployment key management scheme that requires a few memory capacities and CPU computations to address secure data transmissions in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs). The proposed scheme exploits threshold key management mechanisms by Lagrange Interpolation polynomial generating a key set for sensor nodes, and uses symmetric and irreversible cryptography schemes to encrypt transmitted data by the generated keys with Message Authentication Code (MAC). The sensor nodes merely have to aggregate and encrypt received data without complicated cryptography operations. The proposed approach can achieve rapid and efficient secure data transmissions with low communications, and is proper to be implemented on large-scale sensor networks.

      • An Ester Extract of Cochinchina Momordica Seeds Induces Differentiation of Melanoma B16 F1 Cells via MAPKs Signaling

        Zhao, Lian-Mei,Han, Li-Na,Ren, Feng-Zhi,Chen, Shu-Hong,Liu, Li-Hua,Wang, Ming-Xia,Sang, Mei-Xiang,Shan, Bao-En Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.8

Cochinchina momordica seeds (CMS) have been widely used due to antitumor activity by Mongolian tribes of China. However, the details of the underlying mechanisms remain unknown. In the present study, we found that an EtOAc (ethyl ester) extract of CMS (CMSEE) induced differentiation and caused growth inhibition of melanoma B16 F1 cells. CMSEE at the concentration of $5-200{\mu}g/ml$ exhibited strongest anti-proliferative effects on B16 F1 cells among other CMS fractions (water or petroleum ether). Moreover, CMSEE induced melanoma B16 F1 cell differentiation, characterized by dendrite-like outgrowth, increasing melanogenesis production, as well as enhancing tyrosinase activity. Western blot analysis showed that sustained phosphorylation of p38 MAP accompanied by decrease in ERK1/2 and JNK dephosphorylation were involved in CMSEE-induced B16 F1 cell differentiation. Notably, 6 compounds that were isolated and identified may be responsible for inducing differentiation of CMSEE. These results indicated that CMSEE contributes to the differentiation of B16 F1 cells through modulating MAPKs activity, which may throw some light on the development of potentially therapeutic strategies for melanoma treatment.

        Zhao, Meng-Meng,Zhang, Yue,Shen, Li,Ren, Yang-Wu,Li, Xue-Lian,Yin, Zhi-Hua,Zhou, Bao-Sen Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.6

Background: This study was conducted to investigate the association between single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in telomerase reverse transcriptase (TERT) and cleft lip and palate transmembrane1-like (CLPTM1L) and lung cancer risk in a Chinese population. Methods: We performed a hospital-based case-control study, including 980 lung cancer cases and 1000 cancer-free controls matched for age and sex. Each case and control was interviewed to collect information by well-trained interviewers. A total of 5 ml of venous blood was collected for genotype testing of TERT rs2736098 and CLPTM1L rs401681 using TaqMan methodology. Results: The results revealed that the variant homozygote TERT rs2736098TT was associated with an increased risk of lung cancer (OR=2.017, 95%CI=1.518-2.681), especially lung adenocarcinoma (OR=2.117, 95%CI=1.557-3.043) and small cell carcinoma (OR=1.979, 95%CI: 1.174-3.334), compared with the TERT rs2736098CC genotype. Similar results were observed in non-smokers. Conclusion: The TERT rs2736098 polymorphism might affect the susceptibility to lung cancer in Chinese populations. The associations need to be verified in larger and different populations.

      • Continuous DC-CIK Infusions Restore CD8+ Cellular Immunity, Physical Activity and Improve Clinical Efficacy in Advanced Cancer Patients Unresponsive to Conventional Treatments

        Zhao, Yan-Jie,Jiang, Ni,Song, Qing-Kun,Wu, Jiang-Ping,Song, Yu-Guang,Zhang, Hong-Mei,Chen, Feng,Zhou, Lei,Wang, Xiao-Li,Zhou, Xin-Na,Yang, Hua-Bing,Ren, Jun,Lyerly, Herbert Kim Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2015 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.16 No.6

Background: There are few choices for treatment of advanced cancer patients who do not respond to or tolerate conventional anti-cancer treatments. Therefore this study aimed to deploy the benefits and clinical efficacy of continuous dendritic cell-cytokine induced killer cell infusions in such patients. Materials and Methods: A total of 381 infusions (from 67 advanced cases recruited) were included in this study. All patients underwent peripheral blood mononuclear cell apheresis for the following cellular therapy and dendritic cells-cytokine induced killer cells were expanded in vitro. Peripheral blood T lymphocyte subsets were quantified through flow cytometry to address the cellular immunity status. Clinical efficacy and physical activities were evaluated by RECIST criteria and Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group scores respectively. Logistic regression model was used to estimate the association between cellular infusions and clinical benefits. Results: An average of $5.7{\pm}2.94{\times}10^9$ induced cells were infused each time and patients were exposed to 6 infusions. Cellular immunity was improved in that cytotoxic $CD8^+CD28^+$ T lymphocytes were increased by 74% and suppressive $CD8^+CD28^-$ T lymphocytes were elevated by 16% (p<0.05). Continuous infusion of dendritic cells-cytokine induced killer cells was associated with improvement of both patient status and cellular immunity. A median of six infusions were capable of reducing risk of progression by 70% (95%CI 0.10-0.91). Every elevation of one ECOG score corresponded to a 3.90-fold higher progression risk (p<0.05) and 1% increase of $CD8^+CD28^-$ T cell proportion reflecting a 5% higher risk of progression (p<0.05). Conclusions: In advanced cancer patients, continuous dendritic cell-cytokine induced killer cell infusions are capable of recovering cellular immunity, improving patient status and quality of life in those who are unresponsive to conventional cancer treatment.

Alginate and Probiotics Synergistically Reversed Dextran Sulfate Sodium Salt (DSS)-Induced Gut Barrier Damage

        Cheng Zhao,Qiongyuan Hu,Xiuwen Wu,Guopu Chen,Hua Wu,Jianan Ren 한국고분자학회 2019 Macromolecular Research Vol.27 No.9

Previous studies have established that sole probiotics or fibre could be used to relieve colitis. However, few studies evaluated the synergistical effect of fibre and probiotics in treating colitis. This study, examined the effect of alginate, one of the commonest biomaterials and dietary fibre, and/or probiotics on the gut barrier in colitis mice. A synergistical effect was found between alginate and probiotics in colitis. Dextran sulfate sodium salt (DSS), a chemical toxic substance, was used to induce colitis model. Body weight, oxidative stress, inflammatory factors, gut barrier, intestinal morphology and the apoptosis of intestine epithelial cells were analyzed. A combination of probiotics and alginate was used to analyze their synergistic effect. The results showed that the combination of alginate and probiotics had a better therapeutic effect on colitis than using them individually, and they protected the gut barrier from DSS induced oxidative stress. The combination exhibited a greater ability in reducing pro-inflammatory factors and protecting the gut barrier from further damage. The synergistic effect of alginate and probiotics provides a great prospect for biotherapy in bowel diseases and oral drug delivery system.

Interaction and micellar behavior of ternary mixture of amphoteric amino sulfonate surfactant with traditional anionic and nonionic surfactants: Effect of hydrophilicity

Qing Hua Zhang,Rui Sheng,Zhao Hua Ren,Jing Huang,Yun Xiao Wang,Ben Ru Wang,Xi Lei Huang,Qin Cheng,Xue Mei Wu,Tong Bo Wang 한국공업화학회 2023 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.120 No.-

The micellization and the molecular interaction behaviors for two ternary mixtures constituted by anamphoteric sodium 3-(n-dodecyl ethylenediamino)-2-hydroxypropyl sulfonate (C12AS), an anionicsodium dodecylbenzene sulfonate (SDBS) and a nonionic octylphenol polyoxyethylated ether with thenumber (n) of oxyethylene glycol ethers OP-n (n = 10 or 7) in aqueous solution were investigated usingthe tensiometry and the effect of hydrophilicity on them was also discussed. In the framework of pseudophaseseparation model and based on the regular solution theory, the related micellization parametersincluding the mixed critical micelle concentration (cmc) values in the ideal and real cases, the activitycoefficients and the compositions in mixed micelle, etc. and thermodynamic parameters were estimatedby the Clint’s model and the Rubingh’ model. The mixed cmc value is dependent on the composition inaqueous solution and influenced by the hydrophilicity of nonionic surfactant. With increasing the nonionicin ternary mixture, the mixed cmc value is initially decreased and then slightly rise. An increasingin the hydrophilicity of nonionic will make the minimum value of mixed cmc be increased from1.299 mM to 1.705 mM. The resulting phenomena can be explained reasonably by the electrostatic effect, the steric hindrance, the hydrogen bonding, etc. Thermodynamic data indicate that the contribution ofentropy or enthalpy plays a vital role on the spontaneous process of micellization and the share ofentropy or enthalpy in free energy change is dependent largely on the amount of nonionic surfactantand the hydrophilicity. In ternary mixtures of C12AS/SDBS/OP-10, an increase in an amount of OP-10 willinduce the change from the enthalpy-driven micellization process to the entropically favorable process. Once an abundant amount of OP-7 is added, while, the enthalpy will make a main contribution on themicellization process, which can be described by the drop in the share of entropy at the composition(0.6970/0.0000/0.3030) of ternary mixture from 0.6478 to 0.4901. These findings will help with understandingthe molecular interaction behavior for the ternary surfactant mixture and the effect of the additionof nonionic surfactant and its hydrophilicity.

Methanol synthesis from CO2 hydrogenation over Cu/g-Al2O3 catalysts modified by ZnO, ZrO2 and MgO

        Hong Ren,Cheng-Hua Xu,Hao-Yang Zhao,Ya-Xue Wang,Jie Liu,Jian-Ying Liu 한국공업화학회 2015 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.28 No.-

Cu/g-Al2O3 catalysts for methanol synthesis from CO2 are prepared and modified by metal oxides viaimpregnation in the present work. Results indicate that promoters modification leads to the formation ofsmall Cu0 particles with a high dispersion, improves catalytic performance of Cu-based catalysts inmethanol synthesis. Moreover, the activation temperature is another important factor on affecting theCu0 dispersion and particle size. The investigation on CO2 hydrogenation shows that methanol is mainlyfrom hydrogenation of activated CO2 with active hydrogen on Cu0 particles, which is inhibited by highreaction temperature due to improvement on reverse water-gas shift reaction and methanation
