      • Upregulation and Clinicopathological Significance of Long Non-coding NEAT1 RNA in NSCLC Tissues

        Background: Recent reports have shown that nuclear enriched abundant transcript 1 (NEAT1), a long noncoding RNA (lncRNA), contributes to the precise control of gene expression and is related to several human malignancies. However, limited data are available on the expression and function of NEAT1 in lung cancer. The major objective of the current study was to profile the expression and clinicopathological significance of NEAT1 in non-small cell lung cancers (NSCLCs). Materials and Methods: NEAT1 expression in 125 NSCLC cases and paired adjacent non-cancer tissues was assessed by real-time quantitative reverse transcription-PCR (qRT-PCR). Relationships between NEAT1 and clinicopathological factors were also investigated. Results: The relative level of NEAT1 was $6.98{\pm}3.74$ in NSCLC tissues, significantly elevated as compared to that of the adjacent non-cancer lung tissues ($4.83{\pm}2.98$, p<0.001). The area under curve (AUC) of high expression of NEAT1 to diagnose NSCLC was 0.684 (95% CI: 0.619~0.750, p<0.001). NEAT1 expression was positively correlated with patient age (r=-2.007, p=0.047), lymphatic metastasis (r=-2.731, p=0.007), vascular invasion (r=-3.617, p=0.001) and clinical TNM stage (r=-4.134, p<0.001). Conclusions: This study indicates that NEAT1 might be associated with oncogenesis and progression in NSCLC, and suggests application in molecular targeted therapy.

        Generalized and Exponential Synchronization for a Class of Novel Complex Dynamic Networks with Hybrid Time-varying Delay via IPAPC

        This paper introduced a new class of Complex Dynamic Networks (CDNs) with hybrid Time-Varying Delay (TVD) and Non-Time-Varying Delay (NTVD) nodes. Exponential Synchronization (ES) and Generalized Synchronization(GS) problems are studied by using a novel coupling Intermittent Periodically Adaptive Pinning Control (IPAPC) with these CDNs. Meanwhile, IPAPC has new characteristics with three switched intervals in every period. Based on IPAPC method, Kronecker product rules and Lyapunov Stability Theory (LST), necessary and sufficient conditions for ES and GS with IPAPC criteria of such CDNs have been deduced theoretically. Moreover, to verify the practicability and effectiveness of the proposed theoretical results and method, Nearest-Neighbor Network (NNN) and Barabási-Albert Network (BAN) consisting of coupled delay and non-delayed Lee chaotic attractor are finally given as the examples.

        Dynamics Analysis of a New Simple Chaotic Attractor

        In this paper, a novel simple chaotic system is discussed. Some basic dynamical properties, such as Lyapunov exponents, Poincaré mapping, fractal dimension, bifurcation diagram, continuous spectrum and chaotic dynamical behaviors of the novel chaotic system are studied, either numerically or analytically. The obtained results show clearly that the system discussed in this Letter is a novel chaotic system and deserves a further detailed investigation.

        Applying Mindfulness Techniques to the Management of Depressive Tendencies in Women in Taiwan in the Perinatal Period: A Qualitative Study

        Purpose: Perinatal distress, especially depression, commonly occurs during pregnancy and the first year postpartum, but this medical condition are often undiagnosed and untreated. The present study explored how women with depressive symptoms during the perinatal period who had participated in a mindfulness course applied the training and perceived its effects. Methods: This descriptive qualitative study included 16 women with probable perinatal depression who had participated in an 8-week mindfulness-based childbirth and parenting program during their pregnancy and agreed to be interviewed. One-to-one in-depth interviews were conducted and recorded following the completion of the mindfulness course, approximately 1 month after childbirth. Verbatim transcripts were analyzed using content analysis. Results: We proposed three themes and six subthemes relating to first-time mothers’ experiences during and after the group mindfulness-based intervention: learning to be aware of the body and mind (confronting awareness of physical change, managing negative feelings differently), building positive family relationships (strengthening the motherebaby bond, developing a satisfactory marital partnership), and overcoming ongoing challenges (conquering childbirth pain with confidence, accepting unexpected situations). Three main themes were generated to demonstrate how women experience the effects of mindfulness training. Conclusions: Mindfulness-based interventions helped the participants develop insight into their mood and physical changes and accept their childbirth process. Therefore, mindfulness education programs can be incorporated into prenatal care to enhance the management of the depressive symptoms of perinatal women.

        Numerical simulation of tip clearance impact on a pumpjet propulsor

        Numerical simulation based on the Reynolds Averaged NaviereStokes (RANS) Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) method had been carried out with the commercial code ANSYS CFX. The structured grid and SST keu turbulence model had been adopted. The impact of noncondensable gas (NCG) on cavitation performance had been introduced into the Schnerr and Sauer cavitation model. The numerical investigation of cavitating flow of marine propeller E779A was carried out with different advance ratios and cavitation numbers to verify the numerical simulation method. Tip clearance effects on the performance of pumpjet propulsor had been investigated. Results showed that the structure and characteristics of the tip leakage vortex and the efficiency of the propulsor dropped more sharply with the increase of the tip clearance size. Furthermore, the numerical simulation of tip clearance cavitation of pumpjet propulsor had been presented with different rotational speed and tip clearance size. The mechanism of tip clearance cavitation causing a further loss of the efficiency had been studied. The influence of rotational speed and tip clearance size on tip clearance cavitation had been investigated.

        Stimulating Effect of a Novel Synthesized Sulfonamido-Based Gallate ZXHA-TC on Primary Osteoblasts

        Purpose: This study is intended to investigate the effects of plants or plant-derived antioxidants on prevention of osteoporosis through the maintenance of reactive oxygenspecies (ROS) at a favorable level. Materials and Methods: In this study, a novel antioxidant, namely 3,4,5-Trihydroxy-N-[4-(5-hydroxy-6-methoxy-pyrimidin-4-ylsulfamoyl)-phenyl]-benzamide (ZXHA-TC) was synthesized from gallic acid and sulfadimoxine. Its effect on osteoblast metabolism was investigated via the detection of cell proliferation, cell viability, production of ROS, and expression of osteogenic-specific genes including runt-related transcription factor 2 (RUNX2), bone sialoprotein (BSP), osteocalcin (OCN), alpha-1 type I collagen (COL1A1), and osteogenic-related proteins after treatment for 2, 4, and 6 days respectively. Results: The results showed that ZXHA-TC has a stimulating effect on the proliferation and osteogenic differentiation of primary osteoblasts by promoting cell proliferation, cell viability, and the expression of genes BSP and OCN. Productions of bone matrix and mineralization were also increased by ZXHA-TC treatment as a result of up-regulationof COL1A1 and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) at the early stage and down-regulationof both genes subsequently. A range of 6.25×10-3 μg/mL to 6.25×10-1 μg/mL is the recommended dose for ZXHA-TC, within which 6.25×10-2 μg/mL showed the best performance. Conclusion: This study may hold promise for the development of a novel agent for the treatment of osteoporosis.

        Characteristic of Transient Response in Nonuniform Instability with Optically Controlled Fiber

        In this paper we study the effect of chaos in nonuniform instability with optical fiber based IoT networks. The transient response of optically controlled fiber has also described. Nonlinear optical fiber effects especially fiber scattering in networks has emerged as the essential means active optical devices. The paradigm instability in fiber Internet serves as a test for fundamental study of chaos and its suppression and exploitation in practical application in optical communication. This paper attempts to present a survey and some of our research findings on the nature of chaotic effect on Internet based optical communication. The transient response in optical fiber has been evaluated theoretically by calculating the variation of the scattering function. The lines has used under open ended termination containing optically induced region. The scattered optical waves in a fiber used in optic communications are temporally unstable above certain threshold intensity.

        A Voronoi path planning extracted from improved skeleton for dynamic environments

        Aiming at the problems that the robot being in the process of navigation cannot meet the requirements of real-time and accuracy at the same time, moreover is too close to obstacles and lacks the initiative to avoid obstacles, a Voronoi diagram algorithm for improved skeleton extraction suitable for dynamic environment is proposed. On the one hand, firstly the grid map is preprocessed by binarization, corrosion and expansion, so the reduced skeleton map suitable for navigation is obtained, then the reduced skeleton map is extracted for searching the global path, finally the improved cubic spline smoothing algorithm is used to optimize the global path each planned, thus overcoming the defects of bloated and tortuous in the path obtaining by original Voronoi diagram algorithm. On the other hand, the position information of all obstacles is obtained by a single scan lidar. Firstly, segmenting and linearly fitting all laser point clouds to remove the known obstacles in the map. Then to mark new possible dynamic obstacles with circles of appropriate size. Secondly detecting dynamic obstacles by the alteration of their center coordinates, moreover, solving their motion equations. Finally expanding the cost map along the speed direction of dynamic obstacles and combining DWA dynamic window method to realize dynamic obstacle avoidance. Compared with the original DWA algorithm, it can predict the motion state of dynamic obstacles in advance, which improves the safety of the robot in the dynamic environment. Moreover, the effectiveness of the algorithm is verified by many simulation experiments and real environment experiments.

        Prognostic Evaluation of Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma with Bone-Only Metastasis after Therapy

        Purpose: To evaluate the prognosis of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) patients who developed bone-only metastasis after primarytreatment and the stratification of these patients into different risk groups based on independent prognostic factors. Materials and Methods: Eighty NPC patients who developed bone-only metastasis after definitive radiotherapy from October 2005to December 2010 were enrolled. All these patients received palliative treatment for bone metastasis, including chemotherapyand/or radiotherapy. Clinical features, treatment modality, and laboratory parameters were examined with univariate and multivariateanalyses. Results: The median follow-up time was 15.5 months (range, 2–67 months) for the whole cohort. The median overall metastaticsurvival (OMS) time and the 2-year estimate OMS rate were 26.5 months and 52%, respectively. Multivariate analysis indicated thatpatients with short metastases-free interval, multiple bone metastases sites, high serum lactic dehydrogenase levels, and treatedwith radiotherapy or chemotherapy alone had significantly worse outcomes. Patients were stratified into three different risk groupsbased on the number of adverse factors present. The OMS curves of the three groups were all significantly different (p<0.001). Conclusion: Severl prognostic factors were found to be associated with worse outcomes. According to the number of adverse factorspresent, bone-only metastasis patients can be stratified into three risk groups with significantly different prognoses. Suchgrouping may help in improving the design of clinical trials and in guiding individualized treatment for NPC patients with boneonlymetastasis.
