In modern diet of human being, the ω-6/ω-3ratio of dietary fatty acid was shifted much towards ω-6series. In this work, a fatty acid desaturase (FAD) gene lkfad15 was cloned and identified from oleaginous yeast Lipomyces kononenkoae. Function analysis results shown that LKFAD15 is a novel Δ12/Δ15 bifunctional FAD which could not only produce linoleic acid and α-linolenic acid use just oleic acid as substrate but also adjust the ω-6/ω-3 fatty acids ratio to the WHO recommended ratio. Phylogenetic analysis of LKFAD15 suggested it is a specific intermediate product of gene evolution derives from independent gene duplication events.

Immobilization of ammonium and phosphate by zeolites synthesized from low-calcium (LC-Z) and highcalcium (HC-Z) fly ashes is studied. LC-Z has higher ammonium immobilization capacity while HC-Z has better performance in phosphate uptake. As part of Ca2+ released from HC-Z compete with ammonium the exchangeable sites in LC-Z, LC-Z can affect phosphate immobilization of HC-Z, and HC-Z also lowers ammonium uptake of LC-Z. Separate dosing of LC-Z and HC-Z, i.e., first LC-Z and then HC-Z, is proved better than mixed dosing at simultaneous immobilization of ammonium and phosphate. The effect parameters for phosphate and ammonium immobilization of LTH-Z are investigated.

The NASICON-type solid electrolyte structure of Li1.3Al0.3Ti1.7(PO4)3 (LATP) exhibits good electrochemicalperformance and thermal stability, and has been promising as a solid electrolyte. Here, a stable goodstabilityLATP precursor spinning solution was prepared using the sol–gel method for the first time. A linearLATP solid electrolyte with an oriented ordered structure was obtained using improved electrostaticspinning equipment. The sintering process regime of the LATP-ordered construction was determined. Theionic conductivity of the prepared LATP-PEO/LiClO4-PEG composite solid-state electrolyte with anordered structure was as high as 2.05 10-4 Scm1 at room temperature (25 C), one order of magnitudehigher than the ionic conductivity of the LATP composite solid-state electrolyte reported so far. Organicsolid-state electrolytes to protect LATP-ordered structured solid-state electrolytes yield excellent electrochemicalstability in lithium-metal batteries.

Nanosheet-structured vanadium pentoxide (V2O5) has been fabricated by a sol-gel method. As revealed bythe TEM, the as-synthesized V2O5 crystallites are composed of layer-by-layer stacked nanosheets. As acathode material for lithium batteries, it exhibits much better electrochemical performance than the startingcommercial V2O5 powders. A high specific discharge capacity of 264 mA h g-1 can be obtained for thenanosheet-structured electrodes, which retains the capacity of 90% after 50 cycles. However, the commercialV2O5 only delivers a specific discharge capacity of 206 mA h g-1 with a capacity retention of 64%after 50 cycles. Moreover, the nanosheet-structured V2O5 electrodes show much-improved C-rate capability. The superior cycling performance demonstrates that the nanosheet-structured V2O5 is a promising cathodematerial in lithium-ion battery applications.

The delta 6-desaturase gene was cloned from Rhizopus stolonifer, which could accumulate up to 49% of gamma-linolenic acid (GLA, C18:3 Δ^(6,9,12)) to the total fatty acids. The cloned DNA contains a 1,380 bp open reading frame encoding a protein of 460 amino acids, which showed high similarity to those of fungal delta 6-desaturases with three conserved histidine-rich motifs and HPGG motif. Notably, this deduced sequence had a shorter C-terminus. Results demonstrated that the cDNA sequence exhibited delta 6-desaturase activity by accumulation of about 22.4% of GLA to the total fatty acids in the recombinant Pichia pastoris strain GS115.
