Effect of fluid contamination on reverse torque values in implant-abutment connections under oral conditions

Mostafavi, Azam Sadat,Memarian, Maryam,Seddigh, Mohammad Ali The Korean Academy of Prosthodonitics 2021 The Journal of Advanced Prosthodontics Vol.13 No.1

Purpose. Implant mechanical complications, including screw loosening, can influence dental implant success. It has been shown that torque values are affected by contamination occurred in implant-abutment (I/A) interface. This study aimed to examine the effects of blood, saliva, fluoride and chlorhexidine contamination on reverse torque values (RTVs) of abutment screws in oral conditions. Materials and Methods. 50 fixtures were mounted into the stainless-steel holders and divided into five groups (n = 10). Except control group (NC), fixture screw holes in other groups were contaminated with chlorhexidine (CG), saliva (SG), blood (BG), or fluoride (FG). Abutment screws were tightened with a digital torque meter. I/A assemblies were subjected to thermocycling and cyclic loading. The mean RTVs were recorded and data were analyzed with one-way ANOVA and Tukey test. Results. Except for specimens in SG (20.56 ± 1.33), other specimens in BG (21.11 ± 1.54), CG (22.89 ± 1.1) and FG (24.00 ± 1.12) displayed significantly higher RTVs compared to NC (19.00 ± 1.87). The highest RTVs were detected in CG and FG. Conclusion. The obtained data robustly suggest that RTVs were significantly affected by fluid contaminations. Specimens in FG and CG displayed the highest RTVs. Therefore, clinicians should have enough knowledge about probable contaminations in I/A interface in order to manage them during clinical procedure and to inform patients about using oral care products.

Simultaneous Determination of a New Antituberculosis Agent KBF-611 and its De-acetylated Metabolite in Mouse and Rabbit Plasma by HPLC

Farhad Mostafavi Shahab,Simin Dadashzadeh,Farzad Kobarfard 대한약학회 2009 Archives of Pharmacal Research Vol.32 No.10

KBF-611 is a new thiosemicarbazone derivative which has demonstrated significant antituberculosis effect. A sensitive and specific HPLC method was established and validated for the determination of KBF-611 and its deacetylated metabolite (KM) in mouse and rabbit plasma. Chromatographic separation was achieved on a Eurospher-100 C8 column using acetonitrile, methanol, phosphate buffer (pH 7) and TEA (25:5:70:0.1, v/v), as mobile phase at a flow rate of 1 mL/min. KBF-611, KM and internal standard (4-acetamido–3–chlorobenzaldehyde thiosemicarbazone) were detected at the wavelength of 323 nm. The calibration curves were linear within the concentration range from 0.02-5 μg/mL and 0.02-1 μg/mL for KBF-611 and KM respectively. The limit of detection and the limit of quantitation were 6 ng/mL and 20 ng/mL respectively for both KBF-611 and KM. The relative standard deviation for intra- and interday precision was less than 7.5%. Average recoveries were 70.8% and 75.0% for KBF-611 and KM respectively. The established HPLC method was validated to be a simple, rapid and reliable procedure and successfully applied to study the preclinical pharmacokinetics of KBF-611 and KM in mice and rabbits.

A Novel Niosomal Combination of Selenium Coupled with Glucantime against Leishmania tropica

        Mahshid Mostafavi,Payam Khazaeli,Iraj Sharifi,Saeedeh Farajzadeh,Hamid Sharifi,Alireza Keyhani,Maryam Hakimi Parizi,Sina Kakooei 대한기생충학ㆍ열대의학회 2019 The Korean Journal of Parasitology Vol.57 No.1

There is no effective treatment modality available against different forms of leishmaniasis. Therefore, the aim of this study was to improve the penetration and efficacy of selenium and glucantime coupled with niosomes and compared them with their simple forms alone on in vitro susceptibility assays. In this study, the niosomal formulations of selenium and in combination with glucantime were prepared. The size and morphology of the niosomal formulations were charac- terized and the effectivity of the new formulation was also evaluated using in vitro MTT assay, intra-macrophage model, and gene expression profile. From the results obtained, no cytotoxicity effect was observed for niosomal and simple forms of drugs, as alone or in combination. Niosomal formulations of the drugs significantly showed more inhibitory ef- fects (P ≤ 0.001) than the simple drugs when the selectivity index was considered. The gene expression levels of Interleu- kin (IL-10) significantly decreased, while the level of IL-12 and metacaspase significantly increased (P ≤ 0.001). The results of the present study showed that selenium plus glucantime niosome possess a potent anti-leishmanial effect and en- hanced their lethal activity as evidenced by the in vitro experiments.

      • Comparison of the tuberculin skin test and the QuantiFERON-TB Gold test in detecting latent tuberculosis in health care workers in Iran

        Ehsan Mostafavi,Mahshid Nasehi,Abdolrazagh Hashemi Shahraki,Saber Esmaeili,Ebrahim Ghaderi,Saeed Sharafi,Amin Doosti-Irani 한국역학회 2016 Epidemiology and Health Vol.38 No.-

OBJECTIVES: The tuberculin skin test (TST) and the QuantiFERON-TB Gold test (QFT) are used to identify latent tuberculosis infections (LTBIs). The aim of this study was to determine the agreement between these two tests among health care workers in Iran. METHODS: This cross-sectional study included 177 tuberculosis (TB) laboratory staff and 67 non-TB staff. TST indurations of 10 mm or more were considered positive. The Student’s t-test and the chi-square test were used to compare the mean score and proportion of variables between the TB laboratory staff and the non-TB laboratory staff. Kappa statistics were used to evaluate the agreement between these tests, and logistic regression was used to assess the risk factors associated with positive results for each test. RESULTS: The prevalence of LTBIs according to both the QFT and the TST was 17% (95% confidence interval [CI], 12% to 21%) and 16% (95% CI, 11% to 21%), respectively. The agreement between the QFT and the TST was 77.46%, with a kappa of 0.19 (95% CI, 0.04 to 0.34). CONCLUSIONS: Although the prevalence of LTBI based on the QFT and the TST was not significantly different, the kappa statistic was low between these two tests for the detection of LTBIs.

Characterization of the viscoelastic model of in vivo human posterior thigh skin using ramp-relaxation indentation test

        Seyed Jamaleddin Mostafavi Yazdi,조광수,강남철 한국유변학회 2018 Korea-Australia rheology journal Vol.30 No.4

Characterization of viscoelastic properties of the human thigh skin can be utilized in many medical or engineering applications such as a surgical extension of the thigh skin, a tissue engineering, and a finite element modeling of thigh skin in a sitting posture. This study aims to determine the effective short- and long-term shear moduli of posterior thigh skin using ramp-relaxation test in a sitting posture. The effect of indentation location, the sitting posture, and the applied load (thigh weight) were investigated on the extracted effective shear moduli. We modeled the human skin by using the one- and two-term Prony series, and it was found that the generalized Maxwell model with two-term Prony series agreed well with experimental data. The effective shear moduli (short- and long-term) were extracted by fitting the total reaction force of the generalized Maxwell model to the experimental data using the Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm. The contour maps were used to show the spatial dependency of the effective shear moduli at the flat regions of posterior thigh skin. The contour maps of effective shear moduli show that maximum effective shear moduli locate near buttock’s center, while minimum effective shear moduli locate at the distal and medial posterior thigh. It is also found that the extracted effective short-term shear modulus varies between 3978.2 N/m² and 13699.2 N/m². On the other hand, the extracted effective long-term shear modulus differs between 2715.1 N/m² and 9194.3 N/m² for different sitting postures. Additionally, it is found that the observed increase in effective shear moduli could be attributed to the increase applied load, and leg angle.

Neuro-cognitive Ramifications of Fasting and Feeding in Obese and Non-obese Cases

        Seyed-Ali Mostafavi,Ali Khaleghi,Safa Rafieivand,Seyyed Salman Alavi,Mohammad Reza Mohammadi 대한정신약물학회 2018 CLINICAL PSYCHOPHARMACOLOGY AND NEUROSCIENCE Vol.16 No.4

Preliminary studies have claimed that short term fasting would negatively affect school performance and cognition. In contrast some other studies have reported not important decline in cognition and executive function as a result of fasting. Also limited attention was generally devoted to dietetic regimens, nutritional status and body weight. Yet neuroscience and neuro-cognitive aspects of acute hunger on the electroencephalogram and differences between obese and non-obese cases is not well understood. Hence, we decided to design and perform a case study in a more controlled situation similar to reality. Therefore, we performed several examinations including subjective tests (for eating status) and objective tests (cognitive tests such as Stroop effect and Sternberg search and electroencephalogram measures such as steady-state visual evoked potential and auditory steady-state responses) for an obese and a non-obese academic case before and after a simple breakfast. The results showed that the breakfast effects on the neuro-cognitive functions depend on either obesity status, nutritional status of the case or the type of cognitive task (visual or auditory). This paper would open a new insight to answer some important questions about the neuro-cognitive implications of fasting and feeding in obese and non-obese human cases.

        Akhondzadeh Shahin,Mostafavi Seyed-Ali,Keshavarz Seyed Ali,Mohammadi Mohammad Reza,Chamari Maryam 대한수면학회 2022 sleep medicine research Vol.13 No.1

Background and Objective Co-morbidity of obesity, sleep disturbance, and depression is common, especially among women. We aimed to evaluate the effects of melatonin on body weight, depression symptoms and sleep among women with co-morbidities of obesity, mild and moderate depression, and sleep disturbances seeking weight reduction compared with the placebo. Methods This double-blind, randomized clinical trial was performed on 43 patients with comorbidity of mild and moderate depression, overweight/obesity (body mass index ≥ 25) and sleep disturbance. After obtaining the informed consent forms they were randomly assigned to receive 3 mg melatonin or placebo at bed-time. We performed body composition assessments, Beck Depression Inventory, Spielberger State-Trait Anxiety Inventory and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index at the baseline, and 2, 4, 8, and 12 weeks after initiating of the study. We analyzed the data using analysis of variance repeated measures. Results Melatonin significantly reduced depression symptoms compared with the placebo, F = (1, 34) = 6.2, p = 0.017. Also, melatonin significantly improved sleep quality, F = (1, 33) = 8.0, p = 0.008. Besides, subjects on the melatonin reduced more weight compared with the placebo but difference between groups was not significant, F = (1, 41) = 0.2, p = 0.650. Patients in the melatonin group did not show significantly more side effects compared to placebo. Conclusions Based on our findings, melatonin was not able to significantly reduce the body weight more than placebo, but as a safe over-the-counter supplement, it may be helpful in patients with co-morbidities of sleep disturbance, mild and moderate depression, and obesity in reducing the symptoms of depression and insomnia.

Silica Sulfuric Acid/HNO3 as a Novel Heterogeneous System for the Nitrolysis of DADN to HMX under Mild Conditions

Bayat, Yadollah,Mostafavi, Mohammad Mahdi Ahari Korean Chemical Society 2012 Bulletin of the Korean Chemical Society Vol.33 No.11

1,5-Diacetyl-3,7-dinitro-l,3,5,7-tetraazacyclooctane (DADN) is a key intermediate in the preparation of octahydro-1,3,5,7-tetranitro-1,3,5,7-tetrazocine (HMX), one of the most powerful high-melting explosives. The present investigation focuses on nitrolysis of DADN to HMX by developing a new nitrolysis process involving the use of nitric acid catalyzed by Silica Sulfuric Acid (SSA). In order to optimize the process parameters for synthesis of HMX to obtain higher yield and purity, a study was carried out with variation of some parametric conditions like time, mole ratio of SSA and nitric. This method gave us green and mild conditions for nitration reaction.

Amelioration of lipid abnormalities by vitamin therapy in women using oral contraceptives

Torkzahrani, Shahnaz,Heidari, Afrooz,Mostafavi-pour, Zohreh,Ahmadi, Majid,Zal, Fatemeh The Korean Society for Reproductive Medicine 2014 Clinical and Experimental Reproductive Medicine Vol.41 No.1

Objective: Combined oral contraceptives (COCs) have some adverse effects on the serum lipid profile. Because hyperlipidemia is one of the risk factors in cardiovascular diseases, lipid abnormalities should be evaluated in women consuming COCs. Vitamins E and C are known to have beneficial effects on serum lipid profiles. Therefore, in this study, we evaluated the effects of vitamins E and C on serum lipids in women using COCs. Methods: The study compared changes in lipid parameters with and without vitamin therapy in women consuming COCs compared to those of a control group (40 non-contraceptive users or NCU) for 4 weeks. Total cholesterol and triglyceride, low-density lipoprotein (LDL), and high-density lipoprotein (HDL) levels along with HDL/LDL ratios were measured for all participants. Results: COC users experienced significantly higher increases in the levels of triglycerides and LDL than non-users (p<0.05). However, no significant differences were noted in the total cholesterol and HDL levels. In the treated COC group receiving vitamins E and C, the HDL level and the HDL/LDL ratio increased and the LDL and triglycerides levels decreased significantly compared with those of the other groups. Conclusion: The results of our study indicate that supplementation with antioxidant vitamins E and C restores a normal lipid profile in COC users.

Evaluation of stability in maize hybrids using univariate parametric methods

        Seyed Habib Shojaei,Mostafavi Khodadad,Lak Amirparviz,Omrani Ali,Omrani Saeed,Mousavi Seyed Mohammad Nasir,Illés Árpád,Bojtor Csaba,János Nagy 한국작물학회 2022 Journal of crop science and biotechnology Vol.25 No.3

Genotype × environment interaction is one of the complex issues of breeding programs to produce high-yielding and compatible cultivars. Interaction of genotype × environment and make the more accurate selection, the performance and stability of hybrids need to be considered simultaneously. This study aimed to investigate stable genotypes with yield using 12 maize hybrids in different climatic conditions of Iran. The experimental design used was a randomized complete blocks design in three replications in two cropping years in Karaj, Birjand, Shiraz, and Arak stations. The simple analysis of variance performed on grain yield of genotypes indicated that all hybrids studied each year and station were significantly different in grain yield. Also, the combined analysis results showed a significant effect on the environment, the effects of genotype, and the interaction of genotype × environment and t in the studied hybrids different. Comparing Duncan's mean on the data obtained from the research, KSC705 genotypes with an average yield of 7.21 and KSC704 genotype with an average yield of 7.04 were identified as high yield cultivars. In order to identify stable cultivars, six stability parameters were used. KSC260 and KSC707 genotypes had stability Based on the environmental variance, also had stability based KSC705, KSC707 genotype on environmental the coefficient of variation, and KSC260 genotypes had stability based methods of genotype and environment interaction. As well as based on Eberhart and Russell regression coefficient had the stability to KSC400 and SC647 genotypes. Also, they were identified as the most stable genotypes based on the detection coefficient method, KSC707, and KSC703 genotypes.
