Effectiveness of sequence-related amplified polymorphism (SRAP) markers to assess the geographical origin and genetic diversity of collected lentil genotypes

        Mohammed Nabil A.,Afzal Muhammad,Al-Faifi Sulieman A.,Khan Muhammad A.,Refay Yahya A.,AL-Samin Bazel H.,Alghamdi Salem S.,Ibrahim Abdullah 한국식물생명공학회 2023 Plant biotechnology reports Vol.17 No.4

Lentil is an important annual food legume crop, nitrogen fixer and provides a substantial amount of protein, carbohydrate, minerals, and vitamin content. The use of molecular markers to assess genetic diversity is crucial for crop improvement, efficient management, and conservation of plant genetic resources. The current study aimed to determine the genetic diversity among lentil genotypes using sequence-related amplified polymorphism (SRAP) markers. Therefore, we evaluated a collection of 36 lentil genotypes, including 20 from Yemen, Saudi Arabia (7), Egypt (4), and Bangladesh (3), and (2) genotypes from the International Center for Research in Dry Area (ICARDA) using 21 SRAP primer combinations. The amplified fragments showed a high level of useful polymorphic amplified fragments (775 out of 782) indicating a higher degree of variation. The polymorphic information content (PIC) ranged from 0.31 to 0.39 with an average of 0.33 for each primer. The UPGMA trees, based on Jaccard similarity index matrices, separated the genotypes into four main clusters according to their geographical origin. The population structure supported the major groups and attested to their great degree of differentiation. The highest lentil population was found at K = 3, K = 5, and K = 7 levels, showing purity and admixture ancestry among the lentil population. This study highlighted the wide genetic diversity among the studied lentil genotypes and demonstrated the effectiveness of the SRAP technique in determining the genetic variability of lentil. Furthermore, it could be used to establish the genetic peculiarity of ecotypes when applying for the obtainment of origin and agro-morphological characteristics.

Modulus of elasticity and yield bending stress of coating lubrotec 19985 produced by the metal spraying process

Nabil B. Sada,Mohammed A. Al Nawafleh 대한기계학회 2009 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.23 No.8

Round bars of 13.6 mm diameter made from low alloy steel were sprayed by hard-coating Lubrotec 19985 under the following spraying parameters: the rotation speed varied from 500 to 900 rpm, the feeding speed from 0.1 to 1.0 mm/rev, and the nozzle tip distance from 100 to 200 mm; the sprayed bars were then subjected to bending test. Depending on the thickness of the produced coating, the modulus of elasticity and yield bending stress of the coating were calculated by applying the bending deflection formula and an equivalent cross-sectional area technique, respectively. The results obtained indicated that the thickness, hardness, yield bending stress, and modulus of the elasticity of coating were varied with the variation in spraying parameters. The optimum spraying parameter was a rotation speed of 700 r.p.m, a nozzle tip distance of 200 mm, and a feed rate of 0.1 mm/rev. This optimum parameter produced an acceptable thickness of 1.14 mm, a hardness of 148 HV, a bending stress of 404.9 MPa, and a modulus of elasticity of 91.47 GPa. The results obtained can also help determine the modulus of elasticity and yield bending stress of the various coating materials when a coated round bar is subjected to the bending test.

Ameliorative effects of Dictyota dichotoma on hepatotoxicity induced by gibberellic acid in albino rats

        Ali Shaimaa,Moselhy Walaa A.,Mohamed Hanaa M.,Nabil Taghreed M.,Abo El-Ela Fatma I.,Abdou Kh. 한국독성학회 2022 Toxicological Research Vol.38 No.3

Gibberellic acid (GA3) is a natural plant growth regulator that is crucial for plant structural and functional development. We examined the alleviating capacity of brown algae (Dictyota dichotoma) on biochemical and molecular degenerative processes caused by sub-chronic exposure to gibberellic acid resulting in hepatic cell apoptosis. Adult male albino rats were divided into five equal groups: the first group received distilled water, the second group was treated with GA3, the third group was administered D. dichotoma extract suspended in 1% carboxymethylcellulose (CMC), the fourth group was administered both GA3 and D. dichotoma simultaneously, and the fifth group received 1% CMC orally, 5 days per week for a total of 50 days. The results indicated that GA3 induced a significant increase in liver function parameters based on serum levels of alkaline phosphatase (ALP), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), and albumin, which indicate hepatotoxicity. A marked increase in malondialdehyde (MDA) levels and a marked decrease in reduced glutathione (GSH), glutathione-S-transferase (GST), and superoxide dismutase (SOD) were observed as a result of induction of lipid peroxidation and oxidative stress. Histopathology revealed severely degenerated hepatocytes including cytoplasmic vacuolations and many apoptotic cells with weak Bcl2 expression. Similarly, there was a significant up-regulation of gene and protein expression levels for the pro-apoptotic markers, Caspase-3 and Bax, and an increase in pro-inflammatory marker levels, tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) and interleukin-6 (IL-6) as well as C-reactive protein (CRP). The co-administration of D. dichotoma restored the disrupted biochemical, histopathological, molecular, and inflammatory changes resulting from GA3 toxicity. Our results confirm the antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-apoptotic, and hepatoprotective potential of D. dichotoma.

Surface modification of CdSe nanocrystals: Application to polymer solar cell

        M. Nabil,Shaimaa A. Mohamed,K. Easawi,Salah S.A. Obayya,S. Negm,H. Talaat,M.K. El-Mansy 한국물리학회 2020 Current Applied Physics Vol.20 No.3

The optimum choice of the ligand that stabilizes the colloidal quantum dots and passivate the surface is crucial for tuning the energy level and remain elusive. The atomic ligand passivation with iodide remains superior over other surface treatments. Herein, we applied the iodide ligand to passivate the CdSe nanocrystals with an excitonic absorption at 2.1 eV by a liquid-liquid extraction process. We took the view of the change in the optical and structural properties upon ligand exchange. Finally, we tested the performance of the iodide treated dots by employing it in an inverted structure polymer solar cell based on P3HT: PCBM.

        Abdelbaser Ibrahim,Mageed Nabil A.,Elfayoumy Sherif I.,Magdy Mohamed,Elmorsy Mohamed M.,ALseoudy Mahmoud M. 대한마취통증의학회 2022 Korean Journal of Anesthesiology Vol.75 No.3

Background: The thoracic retrolaminar block (TRLB) is a relatively new regional analgesia technique that can be used as an alternative to the thoracic paravertebral block. This study aimed to evaluate the postoperative analgesia effects of ultrasound-guided TRLB in children undergoing open cardiac surgery via median sternotomy incision. Methods: Sixty-six patients aged 2–8 years were recruited. In the TRLB group, 0.25% bupivacaine 0.4 ml/kg was injected into the retrolaminar space on both sides at the level of the T4 lamina. Patients in the control group were injected with 0.9% saline. The primary outcome measure was fentanyl consumption in the first 24 h post-extubation. The secondary outcome measures were the total intraoperative fentanyl consumption, postoperative modified objective pain score (MOPS), and time to extubation. Results: The total intraoperative fentanyl requirements and fentanyl consumption in the first 24 h post-extubation were significantly lower (P < 0.001) in the TRLB group (9.3 ± 1.2; 6.9 ± 2.1 μg/kg, respectively) than in the control group (12.5 ± 1.4; 16.6 ± 2.8, respectively). The median (Q1, Q3) time to extubation was significantly shorter (P < 0.001) in the TRLB group (2 [1, 3] h) than in the control group (6 [4.5, 6] h). The MOPS was significantly lower (P < 0.05) in the TRLB group than in the control group at 0, 2, 4, 8, 12 and 16 h post-extubation.Conclusions: Bilateral ultrasound-guided TRLB is effective in providing postoperative analgesia in children undergoing open cardiac surgery via median sternotomy incision.

Preemptive analgesic efficacy of ultrasound-guided transversalis fascia plane block in children undergoing inguinal herniorrhaphy: a randomized, double-blind, controlled study

        Abdelbaser Ibrahim,Mageed Nabil A.,El-Emam El-Sayed M.,ALseoudy Mahmoud M.,Elmorsy Mohamed M. 대한마취통증의학회 2021 Korean Journal of Anesthesiology Vol.74 No.4

Background: Surgical repair of congenital inguinal hernia results in significant postoperative discomfort and pain. The aim of the current study was to evaluate the pre-emptive analgesic efficacy of a transversalis fascia plane (TFP) block after pediatric inguinal herniorrhaphy. Methods: Forty-four patients aged 12 to 60 months who underwent unilateral inguinal herniorrhaphy were enrolled. Four patients were excluded, and the remaining were allocated to the control group and the TFP block group. In the TFP block group, 0.4 mL/kg bupivacaine 0.25% was instilled in the plane between the transversus abdominis and transversalis fascia, while in the control group 0.9% saline was used instead of bupivacaine. The collected data were the total dose of paracetamol consumed during the first 12 h postoperatively, the postoperative Face, Leg, Activity, Cry, Consolability (FLACC) pain score, time to first use of rescue analgesia, number of patients required additional postoperative analgesics, and parents' satisfaction. Results: The median paracetamol consumption was significantly lower in the TFP block group than in the control group, and FLACC pain scores were significantly lower for all study times in the TFP block group with higher parental satisfaction scores than those for the control group. The number of patients who required additional analgesics was significantly lower in the TFP block group than in the control group. Conclusions: The use of a TFP block decreases postoperative analgesic consumption and postoperative pain intensity after pediatric inguinal herniorrhaphy. Future studies with larger sample size are required to evaluate the actual complications rate of TFP block.

        Hassan AL-Alawi,Saad Al-Nazhan,Nassr Al-Maflehi,Mazen A. Aldosimani,Mohammed Nabil Zahid,Ghadeer N. Shihabi 대한치과보존학회 2020 Restorative Dentistry & Endodontics Vol.45 No.1

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to determine the incidence of radix molaris (RM) (entomolaris and paramolaris) in the mandibular first permanent molars of a sample Saudi Arabian subpopulation using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). Materials and Methods: A total of 884 CBCT images of 427 male and 457 female Saudi citizens (age 16 to 70 years) were collected from the radiology department archives of 4 dental centers. A total of 450 CBCT images of 741 mature mandibular first molars that met the inclusion criteria were reviewed. The images were viewed at high resolution by 3 examiners and were analyzed with Planmeca Romexis software (version 5.2). Results: Thirty-three (4.5%) mandibular first permanent molars had RM, mostly on the distal side. The incidence of radix entomolaris (EM) was 4.3%, while that of radix paramolaris was 0.3%. The RM roots had one canal and occurred more unilaterally. No significant difference in root configuration was found between males and females (p > 0.05). Types I and III EM root canal configurations were most common, while type B was the only RP configuration observed. Conclusions: The incidence of RM in the mandibular first molars of this Saudi subpopulation was 4.5%. Identification of the supernumerary root can avoid missing the canal associated with the root during root canal treatment.
