MicroRNA super-resolution imaging in blood for Alzheimer’s disease

We propose a novel blood biomarker detection method thatuses miRNA super-resolution imaging to enable the early diagnosisof Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Here, we report a singlemoleculedetection method for visualizing disease-specificmiRNA in tissue from an AD mice model, and peripheral bloodmononuclear cells (PBMCs) from AD patients. Using optimizedMagnified Analysis of Proteome (MAPs), we confirmed that fivemiRNAs contribute to neurodegenerative disease in the brainhippocampi of 5XFAD and wild-type mice. We also assessedPBMCs isolated from the whole blood of AD patients and ahealthy control group, and subsequently analyzed those samplesusing miRNA super-resolution imaging. We detected moremiR-200a-3p expression in the cornu ammonis 1 and dentategyrus regions of 3 month-old 5XFAD mice than in wild-typemice. Additionally, miRNA super-resolution imaging of bloodprovides AD diagnosis platform for studying miRNA regulationinside cells at the single molecule level. Our results present apotential liquid biopsy method that could improve the diagnosisof early stage AD and other diseases.

우리나라 중년 여성의 우울증에 영향을 주는 요일들을 알아보기 위하여 한국복지패널 자료 중 2012년에서 2016년까지의 40세에서 60세 사이의 중년 여성의 우울과 관련된 자료들을 분석한다. 기존 중년 여성의 우울의 연구들에서 우울의 원인들로 관심을 가졌던 요일들을 설명변수들로 구성하고, 중년 여성의 우울과 관련된 조사 항목들을 접수화하여 반응변수로 한다. 매년 반복 측정된 자료이기에 각 중년 여성의 우울의 자료들의 종속성을 감안한 적절한 상관계수행렬을 선택하고 중년 여성의 우울에 영향을 주는 요인들의 고정효과와 개인의 특성을 반영한 임의효과를 포함한 선형혼합모형으로 분석한다. We analyse Korea Welfare Panel Data to find the significant variables which affect the depression of middle-aged women between 40 and 60 years old. The data of women surveyed from 2012 to 2016 are used for this research. We choose several exploratory variables from the previous related works and make the response variable by the total score of related survey items. We choose a proper correlation coefficient matrix for the dependence of the middle-aged women’s depression data measured repeatedly every year and select a suitable linear mixed model with the fixed effects of exploratory variables and the random effects of the individuals for the data set.

In this study, two Listeria bacteriophages, LMP1 and LMP7, were isolated from chicken feces as a means of biocontrol of L. monocytogenes. Both bacteriophages had a lytic effect on L. monocytogenes ATCC 7644, 15313, 19114, and 19115. Phages LMP1 and LMP7 were able to inhibit the growth of L. monocytogenes ATCC 7644 and 19114 in tryptic soy broth at 10℃ and 30℃. Nevertheless, LMP1 was more effective than LMP7 at inhibiting L. monocytogenes ATCC 19114. On the contrary, LMP7 was more effective than LMP1 at inhibiting L. monocytogenes ATCC 7644. The morphology of LMP1 and LMP7 resembled that of members of the Siphoviridae family. The growth of L. monocytogenes ATCC 7644 was inhibited by both LMP1 and LMP7 in milk; however, the growth of L. monocytogenes ATCC 19114 was only inhibited by LMP1 at 30℃. The lytic activity of bacteriophages was also evaluated at 4℃ in milk in order to investigate the potential use of these phages in refrigerated products. In conclusion, these two bacteriophages exhibit different host specificities and characteristics, suggesting that they can be used as a component of a phage cocktail to control L. monocytogenes in the food industry.
Importance-Performance Analysis와 Borich 요구도 분석 방법을 활용한 임상간호실무 교육 요구도: 일개 상급종합병원 일반병동 간호사 대상

Purpose: This study’s aim was to confirm the importance and performance of the clinical practice of nurses working in the general wards of a tertiary hospital and to analyze their educational needs. Methods: The study employed a descriptive research design, and a self-reported questionnaire was developed and used for nurses in a tertiary hospital. Data were collected from July 22 to July 29, 2022, analyzed by an independent t-test, paired t-test, and one-way ANOVA for the importance and performance of each clinical nursing practice according to general characteristics, and then a post hoc verification was performed by Scheffé’s test. An Importance-Performance Analysis and Borich needs assessment model were used to analyze clinical nursing education needs. Results: Clinical nursing practice performance showed a significant difference according to length of total clinical career, time working in current department, and preceptor experience. According to the results of the Importance-Performance Analysis, neurological evaluation, and nursing intervention, artificial respirator and high-flow oxygen inhalation nursing, chemotherapy, emergency nursing, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation were identified as belonging to the “concentrate here” quadrant. All these items ranked in the top 10 in the Borich needs assessment model. Conclusion: Based on these results, the current education system should be reviewed, and short and long term education strategies based on educational needs should be established to strengthen the competence of nurses.

Design and fabrication of wind turbine have been investigated. As a component of wind turbine, the vertical type wind turbine with helical blades was designed. CFD analysis has performed with the 3D blade model. Small size blades were manufactured using a 3D printer. The performance of the assembled wind turbine was evaluated by the CFD analysis. It is confirmed that the rated power is well agreed with the design parameters. The concept of wind turbine can be applied as a high performance wind power generation system especially in urban environment considering landscape with the limited area.
간호대학생의 임상실습 중 폭력경험과 임상학습환경이 직업정체성에 미치는 영향

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to determine the influence of the learning environment on nursing students’ clinical practice education and the violence experienced during clinical practice on vocational identity. Methods: The design of the study was a descriptive survey, and data were collected from November 15 to November 27, 2019. The data of the study were obtained from 515 nursing students attending three universities using self-administered questionnaires. Data were analyzed using the SPSS 25.0 program. Results: For the experience of violence, verbal violence (98.3%) was the type most commonly experienced, and patients (97.7%) were the most frequent perpetrators. The clinical learning environment was perceived differently according to gender, personality, interpersonal relationship, satisfaction with nursing, clinical practice satisfaction, violence prevention education, the need for violence prevention education, sexual violence experiences, and violent perpetrators. The most influential factor on vocational identity was satisfaction with the nursing major (β=0.24, p<.001), followed by extroverted personality (β=0.18, p<.001), clinical learning environment (β=0.15, p=.001), satisfaction with clinical practice (β=0.15, p=.002), and the experience of violence by patients (β=-0.10, p=.016), which together explained 24.1% of the variance in the model. Conclusion: It is necessary to make efforts to ensure that students do not experience violence during clinical practice, to maintain a close cooperative relationship between university and clinical institutions to improve the learning environment for clinical practice, and to make the clinical field an educational learning environment.
Electrically Conducting and Mechanically Strong Graphene-Polylactic Acid Composites for 3D Printing

<P>The advent of 3D printing has had a disruptive impact in manufacturing and can potentially revolutionize industrial fields. Thermoplastic materials printable into complex structures are widely employed for 3D printing. Polylactic acid (PLA) is among the most promising polymers used for 3D printing, owing to its low cost, biodegradability, and nontoxicity. However, PLA is electrically insulating and mechanically weak; this limits its use in a variety of 3D printing applications. This study demonstrates a straightforward and environment-friendly method to fabricate conductive and mechanically reinforced PLA composites by incorporating graphene nanoplatelets (GNPs). To fully utilize the superior electrical and mechanical properties of graphene, liquid-exfoliated GNPs are dispersed in isopropyl alcohol without the addition of any surfactant and combined with PLA dissolved in chloroform. The GNP-PLA composites exhibit improved mechanical properties (improvement in tensile strength by 44% and maximum strain by 57%) even at a low GNP threshold concentration of 2 wt %. The GNP-PLA composites also exhibit an electrical conductivity of over 1 mS/cm at >1.2 wt %. The GNP-PLA composites can be 3D-printed into various features with electrical conductivity and mechanical flexibility. This work presents a new direction toward advanced 3D printing technology by providing higher flexibility in designing multifunctional 3D printed features.</P> [FIG OMISSION]</BR>

Single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) and C60-encapsulated SWNTs (C60@SWNTs) are introduced to Rusensitized photoelectrochemical cells (PECs), and photocurrents are compared between two cells, i.e., an RuL2(NCS)2/DAPV/SWNTs/ITO cell and an RuL2(NCS)2/DAPV/C60@SWNTs/ITO cell. [L = 2,2'- bipyridine-4,4'-dicarboxylic acid, DAPV = di-(3-aminopropyl)-viologen, and ITO = indium-tin oxide] The photocurrents are increased by 70.6% in the presence of C60@SWNTs. To explain the photocurrent increase, the reverse-field emission method is used, i.e., RuL2(NCS)2/DAPV/SWNTs/ITO cell (or RuL2(NCS)2/DAPV/ C60@SWNTs/ITO cell) as an anode and a counter electrode Pt as a cathode in the external electric field. The improved field emission properties, i.e., β (field enhancement factor) and emission currents in the reverse-field emission with C60@SWNTs indicate the enhancement of the PEC electric field, which implies the improvement of the electron transfer rate along with the reduced charge recombination in the cell.
