        Synbiotic of Pediococcus acidilactici and Inulin Ameliorates Dextran Sulfate Sodium-Induced Acute Ulcerative Colitis in Mice

        Colitis is a major gastrointestinal disease that threatens human health. In this study, a synbiotic composed of inulin and Pediococcus acidilactici (P. acidilactici) was investigated for its ability to alleviate dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced colitis. The results revealed that the synbiotic, composed of inulin and P. acidilactici, attenuated the body weight loss and disease activity index (DAI) score in mice with DSS-mediated colitis. Determination of biochemical indicators found that the synbiotic increased anti-oxidation and alleviated inflammation in mice. Additionally, histopathological examination revealed that colonic goblet cell loss and severe mucosal damage in the model group were significantly reversed by the combination of inulin and P. acidilactici. Moreover, synbiotic treatment significantly reduced the levels of IL-1β, TNF-α, and IL-6 in the serum of mice. Thus, a synbiotic composed of inulin and P. acidilactici has preventive and therapeutic effects on DSS-induced colitis in mice.

        Multi-objective optimization of a co-rotating twin-screw gear transmission system based on heuristic search

        The positive characteristics observed in terms of compact structural sizes and high torque-transmitting capacities have allowed co-rotating twin-screw (CRTS) gear transmissions to be extensively applied to instances requiring small central distances and large power densities. In this study, a multi-objective optimization model for the quick determination of structural parameters of the CRTS gear transmission system is proposed based on the heuristic search and non-dominant sorting genetic algorithm. Results reveal that the optimized scheme with 17 design variables and 18 constrained parameters can be achieved with this model. The system reduces mass by 7.74 % from the original mass of 199.06 kg, while the safety factor variance of the transmission system decreases by 29.3 %. This method applies to other transmission systems with different structures and thus provides general theoretical support for modern gear transmission optimizations.

        Shaking Table Test Study on Dynamic Response of Bedding Rock Slope with Weak Rock

        A shaking table model test was conducted to study the dynamic response and failure mechanism of a bedding rock slope with weak rock layer based on the “Xiaguiwa” landslide in the Jinsha River basin of Sichuan-Tibet. The influence of schist-like weak rock layer on bedding rock slope is considered. The test results show that the Peak Ground Acceleration (PGA) amplification coefficient varies rhythmically from the inside to the surface of the slope, and 0.3 gand 0.6 g are the slope appears cracking and instability. schist-like weak rock layer makes the seismic wave enhance obviously, but in the slope flexure position, the seismic wave near the weak rock layer is slightly weakened instead, and the maximum displacement often occurs above the weak rock layer. the “bucking” occurs at 1/4 of the slope height, and the fracture degree at the middle and lower part of the slope is greater than that at the middle and upper part, and the slope damage surface appears to be “concave at the top and convex at the bottom”. The damage process of the model slope is divided into four stages. The model test results reflect the influence of the weak rock layer on the seismic dynamic response and damage process of the bedding rock slope.

        Tight Focusing Characteristics of Circularly Polarized Bessel-Gauss Beams with Fractional-order Vortex Modulation

        Radially polarized beams with the ability to generate a sub-wavelength sized spot in a longitudinal field provides significant applications in microscopic imaging, optical tweezers, lithography and so on. However, this excellent property can also be achieved based on conventional circularly polarized beams. Here, we demonstrate its ability to create a strong longitudinal field by comparing the tight focusing characteristics of fractional-order vortex modulated radial polarized and left-handed circular polarized Bessel-Gauss beams. Additionally, the possibility of generating arbitrary fractional-order vortex modulated Bessel-Gauss beams with a strong longitudinal field is demonstrated. A special modulation method of left-handed circularly polarized Bessel-Gauss beams modulated by a fractional-order vortex is adopted creatively and a series of regulation laws are obtained. Specifically, the fractional-order phase modulation parameter n can accurately control the number of optical lobes. The ratio of the pupil radius to the incident beam waist β 1 can control the radius of the optical lobes. The first-order Bessel function amplitude modulation parameter β 2 can control the number of layers of optical lobes. This work not only adds a new modulation method for optical micromanipulation and optical communication, but also enriches the research on fractional vortex beams which has very important academic significance.

        Discrete theory of rolling elements for a cageless ball bearing

        For the case of magnetic levitation loss, the rotor of an active magnetic bearing is forced by gravity to drop onto stator laminations, and cageless touchdown bearings with high rigidity and load-bearing capacity ensure back-up support. However, the contact collision of rolling elements in a cageless bearing will lead to deterioration of bearing performance and instability of the rotor system. For this purpose, a method based on noncontact between adjacent rolling elements in cageless bearings is proposed in this paper. First, combined with space geometry, the contact process and the change in radius of rotation when a rolling element passes through a discrete groove are analysed, and a clearance between the adjacent rolling elements is generated by changing the rotation speed. Based on this, a design principle for setting a discrete groove on an outer ring raceway is proposed, and the equation for the circumferential discrete clearance for the rolling element based on bearing kinematics is given. Combined with the characteristics of discrete groove structures, a differential equation for the discrete dynamics of rolling elements with variable stiffness coefficients is proposed. We then determine the influence of the discrete groove structure on the discrete motion of the rolling element and bearing dynamic characteristics. Third, the dynamics simulation is combined with a vibration characteristics experiment and discrete motion experiment for a rolling element in a cageless bearing. Our research results show that a discrete groove design for the raceway can be used to realize stable discrete motion of the rolling element, and that such a discrete groove structure will not adversely affect the vibration characteristics of the bearing. The feasibility of the discrete design of cageless bearings with rolling element is verified, and theoretical guidance for the development and application of cageless bearings is provided.

        Effect of microencapsulation of egg yolk immunoglobulin Y by sodium alginate/chitosan/sodium alginate on the growth performance, serum parameters, and intestinal health of broiler chickens

        Objective: Egg yolk immunoglobulin (IgY) is an antibiotic alternative to prevent and fight intestinal pathogenic infections. This study aimed to investigate the effects of sodium alginate/chitosan/sodium alginate IgY microcapsules on the growth performance, serum parameters, and intestinal health of broiler chickens. Methods: One-day-old broilers (Ross 308) were divided into five treatments, each with 10 replicates of five chickens. The dietary treatments were maintained for 28 days and consisted of a basal diet (NC), basal diet + 500 mg chlortetracycline/kg diet (CH), basal diet + 50 mg non-microencapsulated IgY/kg diet (NM), basal diet + 600 mg low levels microencapsulated IgY/kg diet (LM), and basal diet + 700 mg high levels microencapsulated IgY/kg diet (HM). Results: Throughout the 28-day trial period, the NM, LM, HM, and CH groups increased average daily gain compared with the NC group (p<0.05), and the HM group reduced feed conversion ratio compared with the CH group (p<0.05). The LM and HM groups increased relative organ weights of thymus and spleen compared with the CH and NM groups (p<0.05). The HM group improved the duodenal, jejunal and ileum villi height (VH) and villus height to crypt depth ratio (VH:CD) compared with the CH and NM groups (p<0.05). Compared with the CH group, the HM group increased serum immunoglobulin (IgA), immunoglobulin G (IgG), superoxide dismutase, total antioxidant capacity, and glutathione peroxidase levels (p<0.05), and decreased serum malondialdehyde levels (p<0.05). Compared with the NC group, the NM, LM, HM, and CH groups reduced colonic Escherichia coli and Salmonella levels (p<0.05). and the HM group promoted the levels of lactic acid bacteria and bifidobacteria compared with the CH group (p<0.05). Conclusion: Microencapsulation could be considered as a way to improve the efficiency of IgY. The 700 mg high levels microencapsulated IgY/kg diet could potentially be used as an alternative to antibiotics to improve the immune performance and intestinal health, leading to better performance of broiler chickens.

        Synthesis of CeO2 Porous Nanospheres with Tunable Pore and Particle Sizes and Their Adsorption to Methyl Orange

        The catalytic performance of ceria oxide (CeO2) was greatly influenced by the materials' structure and surface area. In this paper, CeO2 porous nanospheres (PNS) with tunable pore and sphere sizes were synthesized by a solvothermal method using diethylene glycol as reaction media. All the as-synthesized CeO2 PNS presented good adsorption capacity for methyl orange, which makes them potential application in waste water treatment conveniently and economically. The control over the sphere and pore sizes of CeO2 PNS was achieved by regulating the volume of water bubble in the reaction system, which supplied limited room for the assembling of preformed CeO2 small nano-precursors.

        Green Synthesis of Multifunctional Carbon Nanodots and Their Applications as a Smart Nanothermometer and Cr(VI) Ions Sensor

        In this work, water-soluble and blue-emitting carbon nanodots (CDs) were synthesized from apple peels for the first time via one-step hydrothermal method. The synthetic route is facile, green, economical and viable. The as-prepared CDs were characterized thoroughly by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman, Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR), X-ray photoelectron (XPS), fluorescence and UV–Vis absorption spectroscopy in terms of their morphology, surface functional groups and optical properties. The results show that these CDs possessed ultrasmall size, good dispersivity, and high tolerance to pH, ionic strength and continuous UV irradiation. Significantly, the CDs had fast and reversible response towards temperature, and the accurate linear relationship between fluorescence intensity and temperature was used to design a novel nanothermometer in a broad temperature range from 5 to 65 ℃ facilely. In addition, the fluorescence intensity of CDs was observed to be quenched immediately by Cr(VI) ions based on the inner filter effect. A low-cost Cr(VI) ions sensor was proposed employing CDs as fluorescent probe, and it displayed a wide linear range from 0.5 to 200 μM with a detection limit of 0.73 μM. The practicability of the developed Cr(VI) sensor for real water sample assay was also validated with satisfactory recoveries.

        Reliability Evaluation of Key Hydraulic Components for Actuators of FAST Based on Small Sample Test

        The five-hundred meter aperture spherical radio telescope (FAST) is China’s major science and technology infrastructure project. Upon completion, this telescope will be considered the largest single-dish radio telescope in the world. As main active mechanism of FAST, 2225 hydraulic actuators are used for adjusting the reflectors. The reliability of hydraulic actuators is the most critical matter. This paper applies the reliability theory and reliability test method into large project for the first time. Firstly, a parallel energy-saving method and equipment to test the two components of the actuators for FAST are designed. Secondly, reliability model based on small sample test is used to perform the best linear unbiased estimation of the test data. Average impact lifetime of the sampled gear pump and the sampled relief valve in their working condition are calculated. Finally, the results show that the lifetime request of the sampled gear pump and the sampled relief valve for hydraulic actuator of FAST are satisfied. The research method has guiding significance to the reliability study of key hydraulic components for similar hydraulic systems.
