The Multimode Resource-Constrained (MRC) problem aims at finding the start times and execution modes for the activities of a project that minimizes project duration under current precedence constraints and resource limitations. This study integrates the fuzzy c-means clustering technique and the chaotic technique into the Differential Evolution to develop the Fuzzy Clustering Chaotic-based Differential Evolution (FCDE) algorithm, an efficient hybrid approach to solving MRC and other related problems. Within the FCDE, the chaos prevents the optimization algorithm from premature convergence and the fuzzy c-means clustering acts as several multi-parent crossover operators for utilizing population information efficiently and enhance convergence efficiency. Further, this study applies a serial method to reflect individual-user priorities into the active schedule and the project duration calculations. Experiments run indicate that the proposed FCDE-MRC obtains optimal results more reliably and efficiently than the benchmark algorithms considered. The FCDE-MRC is a promising alternative methodology to handling resource-constrained problems.

Failure of ground anchor is a major cause of landslides and severe natural hazards, especially in the highly developed mountainous areas such as New Taipei City. Accurately estimating load on ground anchors is thus essential for evaluating the stability status of slope to prevent landslide from happening. This study first employed correlation analyses to identify possible influential factors of load on ground anchors. Second, various artificial intelligence models were used to map the relationship of the found influencing factors with the current load on ground anchors. The results indicated that the symbiotic organisms search-optimized least squares support vector regression (SOS-LSSVR) model had the optimal accuracy by earning the smallest value of mean absolute percentage error (9.10%) and the most outstanding value of correlation coefficient (R = 0.988). The study applied the established inference model for the real case of estimating load on un-monitoring ground anchors. The analyzed results strongly advised administrators to conduct site surveying and patrolling more frequently to take early proper actions. In summary, the obtained results have demonstrated SOS-LSSVR as an effective alternative for the conventional subjective evaluation methods, which is able to rapidly provide accurate values of load on un-monitoring ground anchors.

Minimizing the loss of raw materials is an important issue in the construction industry. The construction material often encounters two-dimensional cutting problems such as steel plates and wooden plates. Reducing material waste by using building information modeling (BIM) and artificial intelligence methods has received considerable attention. Thus, this study focused on two-dimensional cutting stock problems (2D-CSP), and employed the auto-tuning Symbiotic Organisms Search algorithm (SOS) to establish residual material optimization model. The results considering the placement strategy with the rotation of the cutting plates, showed that, compared to other heuristic algorithms such as Genetic Algorithm (GA) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), the SOS algorithm obtained superior solutions to the two-dimensional cutting operation. Therefore, the proposed model possesses a certain application value for solving the optimization problem in the construction industry, and helps reducing the material waste and budget cost.

Parasitoids represent a potential tool to control the invasive spotted wing drosophila, Drosophila suzukii, which has invaded Europe and America, recently. A good example is the pupal parasitoid, Trichopria drosophilae, would be an effective biocontrol agent. Populations of D. suzukii, and T. drosophilae were collected from a blueberry orchard in East China and reared in the laboratory at 25 °C. Life table and population growth data for T. drosophilae were obtained using D. suzukii pupae as a host. Mean adult longevity was 22.40 d and 26.45 d, for females and males respectively. The mean oviposition period was 18.20 d. The daily mean parasitization rate was 9.47% per female when 30 hosts were daily provided. The total number of T. drosophilae offspring throughout a lifetime was 63.45 per female, and the female offspring proportion was 65.06%. The intrinsic rate of natural increase and the finite rate of increase were 0.18 and 1.19, respectively. The generation time and the population doubling time were 21.29 d and 3.91 d, respectively. Our results suggest that T. drosophilae population differed among populations in population growth parameters, and those from China also has the parasitism potential to control D. suzukii.

Combinations of multiple biomarkers representing distinct aspects of metastasis may have better prognostic value for breast cancer patients, especially those in late stages. In this study, we evaluated the protein levels of N-${\alpha}$-acetyltransferase 10 protein (Naa10p), synuclein-${\gamma}$ (SNCG), and phosphatase of regenerating liver-3 (PRL-3) in 365 patients with breast cancer by immunohistochemistry. Distinct prognostic subgroups of breast cancer were identified by combination of the three biomarkers. The Naa10p+SNCG-PRL-3-subgroup showed best prognosis with a median distant metastasis-free survival (DMFS) of 140 months, while the Naa10p-SNCG+PRL-3+subgroup had the worst prognosis with a median DMFS of 60.5 months. Multivariate analysis indicated Naa10p, SNCG, PRL-3, and the TNM classification were all independent prognostic factors for both DMFS and overall survival (OS). The three biomarker combination of Naa10p, SNCG and PRL-3 performed better in patients with lymph node metastasis, especially those with more advanced tumors than other subgroups. In conclusion, the combined expression profile of Naa10p, SNCG and PRL-3, alone or in combination with the TNM classification system, may provide a precise estimate of prognosis of breast cancer patients.

Copolymerization mechanisms of norbornadiene (NBD) and propylene, catalyzed by three zirconocene catalysts (namely, rac-Me2Si(2-Me-4-Ph-Ind)2ZrCl2/MAO (catA), rac-Me2Si(Ind)2ZrCl2/MAO (catB), and rac-CH2CH2(Ind)2ZrCl2/MAO(catC)), have been studied, using density functional theory computations. It has been found that the barrier (28.5 kcal mol−1) for the insertion of propylene to the [Zr]A-NBD-PP1 (the NBD insertion product) is significantly higher than those to [Zr]B-NBD-PP1 (22.9 kcal mol−1) and [Zr]C-NBD-PP1 (20.5 kcal mol−1), rationalizing the experimental observation that addition of NBD deactivated catA system but only lowered the catalytic activity of catB and catC systems. However, [Zr]A-NBD-PP1 can react with H2 easily, which displaces NBD−PP1 chain and gives active [Zr]A−H species to continue copolymerization, which is why the introduction of H2 could recover the catalytic activity of catA system.

The elementary excitation spectra of a one-dimensional ferrimagnetic diamond chain in the spin- 1/2 XY model at low temperatures have been calculated by using an invariant eigen-operator (IEO) method, the energies of elementary excitations in different specific cases are discussed, and the analytic solutions of three critical magnetic field intensities (<i>H</i>C1, <i>H</i>C2, and <i>H</i>peak) are given. The magnetization versus external magnetic field curve displays a 1/3 magnetization plateau at low temperatures, in which <i>H</i>C1 is the critical magnetic field intensity from the disappearance of the 1/3 magnetization plateau to spin-flop states, <i>H</i>C2 is the critical magnetic field intensity from spin-flop states to the saturation magnetization, and Hpeak is the critical magnetic field intensity when the temperature magnetization shows a peak in the external magnetic field. The temperature dependences of the magnetic susceptibility and the specific heat show a double peak structure. The entropy and the magnetic susceptibility versus external magnetic field curves also exhibit a double peak structure, and the positions of the two peaks correspond to <i>H</i>C1 and <i>H</i>C2, respectively. This derives from the competition among different types of energies: the temperature-dependent thermal disorder energy, the potential energy of the spin magnetic moment, the ferromagnetic exchange interaction energy, and the anti-ferromagnetic exchange interaction energy. However at low temperatures, the specific heat as a function of external magnetic field curve exhibits minima at the above two critical points (<i>H</i>C1 and <i>H</i>C2). The origins of the above phenomena are discussed in detail.

A novel one-pot catalytic synthesis of 1-benzoylpyrene through acylation of pyrene with benzoic anhydride catalyzed by several heteropoly acids (HPAs) was investigated. Pure 1-benzoylpyrene was obtained and its structure was identified by GC/MS, FT-IR and 1H NMR spectra. Silica-supported phosphotungstic heteropoly acid (PW/SiO2)was found to be the most active catalyst in the acylation. The yield and the selectivity of 1-benzoylpyrene were up to 62.5% and 100%, respectively. The effects of experimental parameters on the catalytic acylation reaction, and the possibility of reusability of PW/SiO2 catalyst were studied. PW/SiO2 catalyst is easily separable from the reaction mixture and reusable without loss of its activity.
