        Protein Kinase C Mediates the Corticosterone-induced Sensitization of Dorsal Root Ganglion Neurons Innervating the Rat Stomach

        Background/Aims Gastric hypersensitivity contributes to abdominal pain in patients with functional dyspepsia. Recent studies showed that hormones induced by stress are correlated with visceral hypersensitivity. However, the precise mechanisms underlying gastric hypersensitivity remain largely unknown. The aim of the present study was designed to investigate the roles of corticosterone (CORT) on excitability of dorsal root ganglion (DRG) neurons innervating the stomach. Methods DRG neurons innervating the stomach were labeled by DiI injection into the stomach wall. Patch clamp recordings were employed to examine neural excitability and voltage-gated sodium channel currents. Electromyograph technique was used to determine the responses of neck muscles to gastric distension. Results Incubation of acutely isolated DRG neurons with CORT significantly depolarized action potential threshold and enhanced the number of action potentials induced by current stimulation of the neuron. Under voltage-clamp mode, incubation of CORT enhanced voltage-gated sodium current density of the recorded neurons. Pre-incubation of GF109203X, an inhibitor of protein kinase C, blocked the CORT-induced hyperexcitability and potentiation of sodium currents. However, pre-incubation of H-89, an inhibitor of protein kinase A, did not alter the sodium current density. More importantly, intraperitoneal injection of CORT produced gastric hypersensitivity of healthy rats, which was blocked by pre-administration of GF109203X but not H-89. Conclusions Our data strongly suggest that CORT rapidly enhanced neuronal excitability and sodium channel functions, which is most likely mediated by protein kinase C but not protein kinase A signaling pathway in DRG neurons innervating the stomach, thus underlying the gastric hypersensitivity induced by CORT injection.         Comparison of pharmacokinetics and safety of fixed-dose combination of SKI306X and aceclofenac versus separate tablets in healthy subjects

        JOINS (SKI306X) is an herbal anti-arthritic medicine that is widely used with aceclofenac fortreating osteoarthritis in Korea. A fixed-dose combination (FDC) tablet containing SKI306X andaceclofenac was developed to improve patient compliance. This study aimed to compare the pharmacokinetics(PK) and safety of the FDC tablet with those of co-administered SKI306X and aceclofenacin healthy subjects. In this randomized, open-label, two-way crossover, single-dose study,the FDC tablet (SKI306X 300 mg/aceclofenac 100 mg) (test) was given or co-administration of 300mg of SKI306X and 100 mg of aceclofenac (reference) was performed followed by a 7-day wash-outperiod. Blood samples were collected before and after drug administration to evaluate aceclofenacPK parameters, and safety was assessed throughout the study. A total of 54 healthy male subjectswere enrolled in and completed the study. Tmax and t1/2 of aceclofenac of the FDC tablet were similarto those of aceclofenac co-administered with SKI306X (Tmax: test 2.96 h and reference 2.14 h; t1/2:test 3.46 h and reference 4.04 h). The geometric mean ratios (90% confidence intervals) of Cmax andAUClast (T/R) were 0.85 (0.81 to 0.91) and 1.03 (1.01 to 1.06) respectively; these results were withinthe predefined range (0.8 to 1.25). There was only one drug-related adverse event (dizziness) occurredafter administration of the FDC tablet; however, it was mild in severity and resolved withoutany complications. The FDC tablet was well tolerated and exhibited an absorption rate and extentcomparable to those of SKI306X and aceclofenac administered simultaneously.

        Electrosynthesis of Pure Poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) in Chitosan-Based Liquid Crystal Phase

        Ordered poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) was successfully prepared by electrochemical polymerization of 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene in lyotropic liquid crystal phase formed by chitosan in an acetic acid solution. The structure, performance, and morphology of PEDOT were characterized by infrared absorption spectra, cyclic voltammograms, polarizing optical microscopy, and scanning electron microscopy. The ordered pure PEDOT film with good electrochemical behavior exhibited obvious birefringence.

      • Genetic Variations in TERT-CLPTM1L Genes and Risk of Lung Cancer in a Chinese Population

        Background: This study was conducted to investigate the association between single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in telomerase reverse transcriptase (TERT) and cleft lip and palate transmembrane1-like (CLPTM1L) and lung cancer risk in a Chinese population. Methods: We performed a hospital-based case-control study, including 980 lung cancer cases and 1000 cancer-free controls matched for age and sex. Each case and control was interviewed to collect information by well-trained interviewers. A total of 5 ml of venous blood was collected for genotype testing of TERT rs2736098 and CLPTM1L rs401681 using TaqMan methodology. Results: The results revealed that the variant homozygote TERT rs2736098TT was associated with an increased risk of lung cancer (OR=2.017, 95%CI=1.518-2.681), especially lung adenocarcinoma (OR=2.117, 95%CI=1.557-3.043) and small cell carcinoma (OR=1.979, 95%CI: 1.174-3.334), compared with the TERT rs2736098CC genotype. Similar results were observed in non-smokers. Conclusion: The TERT rs2736098 polymorphism might affect the susceptibility to lung cancer in Chinese populations. The associations need to be verified in larger and different populations.

      • Correlation Study of Knowledge and Behavior Regarding Breast Care among Female Undergraduate Students in China

        Background: This study aimed to understand the relationship between knowledge level and behavior on breast care in Chinese students, so as to provide strategies for improving the health education of breast care and subsequently for aiding in breast cancer prevention. Materials and Methods: A self-designed questionnaire was used to evaluate breast care knowledge level and characterize related behavior. Correlation analysis was conducted for the knowledge level and behavior. The study was carried out using 597 female undergraduate students in medical and non-medical colleges in Wuhu, China. Results: The average score of breast care knowledge was $5.32{\pm}1.68$ ($5.62{\pm}1.68$ and $5.00{\pm}1.68$ for medical and non-medical students, respectively), with a greater score value for sophomores ($5.59{\pm}1.72$) than freshmen ($5.18{\pm}1.65$). The average score of breast care behavior was $2.21{\pm}1.13$, again with a greater value in sophomores ($2.37{\pm}1.15$) than freshmen ($2.21{\pm}1.13$). A significant positive correlation (r=0.231, p<0.01) between knowledge scores and behavior scores was observed. In addition, various factors, including paying attention to breast care information, receiving breast self-examination guidance, TV program and Internet, were found to influence breast care knowledge. Conclusions: In general, female undergraduate students lack of self-awareness of breast care with a low rate of breast self-examination. It is necessary to carry out health education to improve early detection of breast cancer.

        Lao-tzu and Chuang-Tzu are great philosophers in ancient China. Their brilliant works Lao-tzu and Chuang-Tzu are not only the treasures of Chinese traditional culture, but also the spiritual wealth of all human beings. In recent years, the academia has paid more attention to the Taoist culture, and the research on Lao-tzu and Chuang-Tzu is on the way of development in China. Nowadays, diversification of the study becomes the main direction in China. The scholars from the history and culture department in the Huazhong Normal University have contributed a lot on the studies of Lao-tzu and Chuang-tzu. The Professor Xiong Tie Ji and other researchers from the history and culture department have written the first book The History of the Studies on Lao-tzu in China, and the Chinese Study of Lao-tzu in the Twentieth Century, and The History of the Studies on Chuang-tzu in China. Besides, the Chinese Study of Chuang-tzu in the Modern History is in the preparation. These two books analysis the studies of Lao-tzu and Chuang-tzu in China systematically, and have great influence in Chinese academe. But it is a pity that the foreign scholars’ studies of Lao-tzu and Chuang-tzu haven’t been attached enough importance. In fact, as the development of the reform and opening?up, more and more foreign scholars paid attention to the Chinese history and culture. They begin to study on the Chinese culture, especially the Taoist and Taoism culture. From 18th to 19th century, it’s the missionaries who let the West know the Lao-tzu from China. But after the World War, people despaired with the Western culture became seek comforts from the East, especially China. Many scholars began to pay attention to the Lao-tzu. In 1773 some new texts were found in the Ma Wang Dui in Chang sha, they attract many scholars’ interests. Form then, the study of Lao-tzu became popular in the home and broad. Different from the study of Chuang-tzu, some Chinese scholars have tried to do some research on the study of Chuang-tzu in the English?speaking countries. Vice Professor Bao Zhaohui in Nanjing University has published a paper which is on the study of Chuang-tzu in the English?speaking countries. Besides, there appears some paper for the Doctor’s Degree in Fudan Universiry. Recently, some new scholars summarize the studies of Lao-tzu in the West. Zhang Juan Fang has published her paper for the doctor’s degree Studies of Lao-tzu in the West of the 20th century, introduced more than ten scholars and their productions. Xin Hong Juan also written a book Tao-Te Ching in the English Speaking Country described the spread of Lao-tzu in more than five centuries. This paper retrospect the development of the studies of Lao-tzu and Chuangtzu in China and the in the English Speaking Country, summarizes the studies of Lao-tzu and Chuang-tzu in the twentieth century, and estimates the typical scholars and their productions. In all, this paper brings forth the developments of the studies of Lao-tzu and Chuang-tzu in the in the English Speaking Country, in the twentieth century.

        Human-computer interaction can be done through CLI (Command-Line Interface) or. Starting with the CUI (Character User Interface), and moving up to the CUI (User Interface), the appropriate usage method and device are implemented so that the user can conveniently use the product or service. For this, safety, convenience, and time reduction play a major role in UI. Coming to the modem era, it has become an important task to focus on the interactive gesture CLI, rather than physical manipulation of the in-vehicle interface, and to design actions that are easy for users to recall. Therefore, this paper intends to study the natural gestures for vehicle users to control the vehicle. Beginning with the theoretical study of interfaces and interactions, the influence of the Internet on car interaction design is explained, and the design of car interaction interfaces is summarized to study the existing car interaction system for drivers. Considering the operational limitations through the gesture interface, an important issue of how to design a gesture with good aesthetics and experience has emerged. Cars are one step closer to saving time and convenience of vehicle transportation by interacting with autonomous driving or various interfaces. In addition, the automobile becomes a platform that connects digital information services with transportation means, providing information and entertainment program functions that can be controlled by the driven In terms of in-vehicle interaction, multi-channel user interfaces will become the core of future interaction design. At the same time, gesture interaction is increasingly being used as a possible interaction method in some product and display designs. Among them, in the human-machine interaction interface based on gesture manipulation, automobile human-computer interface design is one of the important fields of human-computer interaction. In this regard, this paper discusses gestures and related theories on gesture design for automobile human-machine interfaces, and explains the main directions of related research on automobile human-machine interfaces. And, by summarizing the existing research on human-machine interface design, and presenting gesture design methods such as the validity of gestures in automobile human-machine interfaces, application of human-machine interfaces, and human-computer interactions, the interaction of domestic and foreign automobile gestures is analyzed, do. In conclusion, we propose a design method of a user-defined gesture for an automobile human-computer interaction interface and classify the application of gestures. By referring to the vehicle human-computer interaction system design and user-designed gesture sets, the function and architectural process of the vehicle system for gesture manipulation are defined. The significance of this paper is to discuss the major gesture driving design process and gesture design method for automobiles, and to study and think about user-centered design methods.

        요즘 도가도교문화는 나날이 학계에서 중시되고 있으며, 중국 노장학 연구도 끊임없이 앞을 향해 발전해 나가고 있다. 그러나 영어권의 노장학 연구는 아직 중국 학술계의 충분한 관심을 끌지 못하고 있다. 이글은 중국의 노장학 연구의 발전을 추적하여 영어권의 노장학 연구의 발전 상황을 개괄적으로 서술하였으며, 아울러 중국 국내에서의 노장학 연구 방면에 매우 성과있는 학자 및 그 저작에 대하여 평가하고 분석을 진행하였으며, 전체적인 입장에서 20세기 영어권의 노장학 연구에 대한 동향을 드러내었다.

        Hydrogen peroxide is involved in abscisic acid-induced adventitious rooting in cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.) under drought stress

        Abscisic acid (ABA) and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) are important regulatory factors involved in plant development under adversity stress. Here, the involvement of H2O2 in ABA-induced adventitious root formation in cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.) under drought stress was determined. The results indicated that exogenous ABA or H2O2 promoted adventitious rooting under drought stress, with a maximal biological response at 0.5 μM ABA or 800 μM H2O2. The promotive effects of ABA-induced adventitious rooting under drought stress were suppressed by CAT or DPI, suggesting that endogenous H2O2 might be involved in ABA-induced adventitious rooting. ABA increased relative water content (RWC), leaf chlorophyll content, chlorophyll fluorescence parameters (Fv/Fm, ΦPS II and qP), water soluble carbohydrate (WSC) and soluble protein content, and peroxidase (POD), polyphenol oxidase (PPO) and indoleacetate oxidase (IAAO) activities, while decreasing transpiration rate. However, the effects of ABA were inhibited by H2O2 scavenger CAT. Therefore, H2O2 may be involved in ABA-induced adventitious root development under drought stress by stimulating water and chlorophyll content, chlorophyll fluorescence, carbohydrate and nitrogen content, as well as some enzyme activities.

        Synthesis and Structural Studies of an Organic Complex and its Association with BSA

        The self-assembly of one novel organic complex based on chlorogenic acid (HCA) and 2,2'-bipyridine (2,2'-bipy) has been synthesized and characterized. The complex achieved by hydrogen-bonding interactions, adopted a 1:1 stoichiometry in a solid state. The proton transfer occurred from the carboxyl oxygen to the aromatic nitrogen atom to form salts CA${\cdot}$(2,2'-Hbipy), the 2,2'-Hbipy molecule individually occupies the pseudo-tetragonum that is formed with CA. In this paper, the interactions of CA${\cdot}$(2,2'-Hbipy) with bovine serum albumin (BSA) were studied by fluorescence spectrometry. For CA${\cdot}$(2,2'-Hbipy), HCA and 2,2'-bipy, the average quenching constants for BSA were $2.4384{\times}10^4$, $4.653{\times}10^3$, and $3.059{\times}10^3\;L{\cdot}mol^{-1}$, respectively. The mechanism for protein fluorescence quenching is apparently governed by a static quenching process. The Stern-Volmer quenching constants and corresponding thermodynamic parameters ${\Delta}$H, ${\Delta}$G and ${\Delta}$S were calculated. The binding constants and the number of binding sites were also investigated. The conformational changes of BSA were observed from synchronous fluorescence spectra.
