Peroperative localization of pheochromocytoma is the very crucial step for the successful removal of tumors. Computed tomography(CT) and magnetic resonance(MR) imaging have been commonly used for tumor localization, but in some cases of pheochromocytoma, such as extraadrenal location or distant metastasis of malignant tumor, their localization is somewhat difficult. Recently ^131 I-metaiodobenzylguanidine(MIBG) scintigraphy has been developed and increasingly used for the localization of pheochromocytoma and reported to be more sensitive and specific than CT or MR imaging in the cases of extraadrenal tumor location. We report a case of multiple extraadrenal pheochromocytoma in which ^131 I-MIBG scintigraphy clearly localized two intraabdominal and one bladder tumors, after failure of localization with conventional CT and MR imaging(J Kor Soc Endocrinol 10: 445-450, 1995).

For the planned experiments of Korea Sounding Rocket-III (KSR-III), we have constructed a model of MUV dayglow in the mid-latitude. The model computes relative intensities of individual emission lines in the Vegard-Kaplan and 2PG band systems of $N_2$ in the wavelength range of 2500-3500${\AA}$. In addition to the emission lines, solar scattered continuum was computed by an extended LOWTRAN7 code, in which we have included solar scattering in altitudes higher than 100 km by using MSIS90 thermosphere model. Ratios among vibrational bands of VK and 2PG system, were computed from the observed MUV dayglow spectra of Cleary et al. (1995). The model provides MUV dayglow intensitiy profiles with a wavelength resolution of 3.13${\AA}$ as a function of altitude. The computed intensity profiles have been utilized in designing the KSR-III airglow photometers.

Background and Objectives : The calcium-binding protein, calbindin-D28K(CB) is widely distribution of CB in rat amygdala during postnatal maturation, in order to provide an insight into the developmental role it may play in the amygdaloid neurons. Materials and Methods : The present study is based on 28 postnatal cases ranging from the day of birth, postnatal day 0 (P0) to 30 days (P5, P10, P15, P20, P30), and these cases were compared with adult rat amygdala. Cryostat sections processed free-floating with monoclonal antibody by immunohistochemistry. Results : CB-immunoreactive neurons were already found at birth in all amygdaloid nuclei except the intercalated nucleus. The intensity and number of immunoreactivity of CB-containing neurons increased during the first 10 days of postnatal life but dramatically decreased at P15. Mature patterns of CB-immunoreactive neurons were achieved at P20. In the adult amygdala, CB-immunoreactive neurons were distributed in almost all amygdaloid nuclei except the intercalated nucleus. Conclusion : The present results show early appearance of CB immunoreactivity in the amygdala. It may be related to the early appearance of CB immunoreactivity in many other brain regions, and suggests that CB may play a functional role during the development of the nervous system including amygdala.
Performance Analysis for Mirrors of 30 cm Cryogenic Space Infrared Telescope

We have designed a 30 cm cryogenic space infrared telescope for astronomical observation. The telescope is designed to observe in the wavelength range of 0.5~2.1 μm, when it is cooled down to 77 K. The result of the preliminary design of the support structure and support method of the mirror of a 30 cm cryogenic space infrared telescope is shown in this paper. As a Cassegrain prescription, the optical system of a 30 cm cryogenic space infrared telescope has a focal ratio of f/3.1 with a 300 mm primary mirror (M-1) and 113 mm secondary mirror (M-2). The material of the whole structure including mirrors is aluminum alloy (Al6061-T6). Flexures that can withstand random vibration were designed, and it was validated through opto-mechanical analysis that both primary and secondary mirrors, which are assembled in the support structure, meet the requirement of root mean square wavefront error <λ/8 for all gravity direction. Additionally, when the M-1 and flexures are assembled by bolts, the effect of thermal stress occurring from a stainless steel bolt when cooled and bolt torque on the M-1 was analyzed.
Thermal Analysis of MIRIS Space Observation Camera for Verification of Passive Cooling

We conducted thermal analyses and cooling tests of the space observation camera (SOC) of the multi-purpose infrared imaging system (MIRIS) to verify passive cooling. The thermal analyses were conducted with NX 7.0 TMG for two cases of attitude of the MIRIS: for the worst hot case and normal case. Through the thermal analyses of the flight model, it was found that even in the worst case the telescope could be cooled to less than 206ºK. This is similar to the results of the passive cooling test (~200.2ºK). For the normal attitude case of the analysis, on the other hand, the SOC telescope was cooled to about 160ºK in 10 days. Based on the results of these analyses and the test, it was determined that the telescope of the MIRIS SOC could be successfully cooled to below 200ºK with passive cooling. The SOC is, therefore, expected to have optimal performance under cooled conditions in orbit.

This paper presents a hybrid underwater navigation system for unmanned underwater vehicles, using an additional range sonar, where the navigation system is based on inertial and Doppler velocity sensors. Conventional underwater navigation systems are generally based on an inertial measurement unit (IMU) and a Doppler velocity log (DVL), accompanying a magnetic compass and a depth sensor. Although the conventional navigation systems update the bias errors of inertial sensors and the scale effects of DVL, the estimated position slowly drifts as time passes. This paper proposes a measurement model that uses the range sonar to improve the performance of the IMU-DVL navigation system, for extended operation of underwater vehicles. The proposed navigation model includes the bias errors of IMU, the scale effects of VL, and the bias error of the range sonar. An extended Kalman filter was adopted to propagate the error covariance, to update the measurement errors, and to correct the state equation, when the external measurements are available. To illustrate the effectiveness of the hybrid navigation system, simulations were conducted with the 6-d.o.f. equations of motion of an AUV in lawn-mowing survey mode.

The plasma concentrations of lidocaine were measured by HPLC (high-performance liquid-chrom-atography) when 415 mg of 1.5 and 2% plain lidocaine (group 1). carbonated lidocaine (group 2) and lidcaine with epinephrine (group 3) were injected into the caudal spaces of 30 patients. Peak concentrations were achieved 15, 20 and 30 min, after injection in groups 1,2 and 3, respectively. The maximum values of mean concentration in groups 1,2 and 3 were 3.30±0.83, 3.32±0.81 and 1.86±0.52 ㎍/ml (mean±SD), respectively. The plasma concentration in group 3 were lower than those in groups 1 and 2 at intervals of 5,10,15 and 20 min. However, it was uncertain whether carbonated lidocaine was absorbed more rapidly thus producing significantly higher blood concentrations. The results indicated a significant difference in the plasma concentration of epinephrine-mixed lidocaine from that of plain or carbonated lidocaine. We suggest that in caudal anethesia, epinephrine (1:200,000) with lidocaine has an advatage with respect to lowering the plasma concentration of lidocaine.

Tissue equivalent proportional counter (TEPC) can measure the Linear Energy Transfer (LET) spectrum and calculate the equivalent dose for the complicated radiation field in space. In this paper, we developed and characterized a TEPC for radiation monitoring in International Space Station (ISS). The prototype TEPC which can simulate a 2 μm of the site diameter for micro-dosimetry has been tested with a standard alpha source (241Am, 5.5 MeV). Also, the calibration of the TEPC was performed by the 252Cf neutron standard source in Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science (KRISS). The determined calibration factor was kf = 3.59x10-7 mSv/R.
