AITC induces MRP1 expression by protecting against CS/CSE-mediated DJ-1 protein degradation via activation of the DJ-1/Nrf2 axis

        Lingling Xu,Jie Wu,Nini Li,Chengjun Jiang,Yan Guo,Peng Cao,Dianlei Wang 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 2020 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology Vol.24 No.6

The present study aimed to examine the effect of allyl isothiocyanate (AITC) on chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and to investigate whether upregulation of multidrug resistance-associated protein 1 (MRP1) associated with the activation of the PARK7 (DJ-1)/nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) axis. Lung function indexes and histopathological changes in mice were assessed by lung function detection and H&E staining. The expression levels of Nrf2, MRP1, heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1), and DJ-1 were determined by immunohistochemistry, Western blotting and reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction. Next, the expression of DJ-1 in human bronchial epithelial (16HBE) cells was silenced by siRNA, and the effect of DJ-1 expression level on cigarette smoke extract (CSE)-stimulated protein degradation and AITC-induced protein expression was examined. The expression of DJ-1, Nrf2, HO-1, and MRP1 was significantly decreased in the wild type model group, while the expression of each protein was significantly increased after administration of AITC. Silencing the expression of DJ-1 in 16HBE cells accelerated CSE-induced protein degradation, and significantly attenuated the AITC-induced mRNA and protein expression of Nrf2 and MRP1. The present study describes a novel mechanism by which AITC induces MRP1 expression by protecting against CS/CSEmediated DJ-1 protein degradation via activation of the DJ-1/Nrf2 axis.

Portraying the ‘Chinese international students’: a review of English-language and Chinese-language literature on Chinese international students (2015–2020)

Xu, Cora Lingling 서울대학교 교육연구소 2022 Asia Pacific Education Review Vol.23 No.1

The Chinese international students are often portrayed in a monolithic manner in popular discourse. To offer a more comprehensive and critical representation of the Chinese international students, this paper conducts a thematic narrative review of 128 English-language and 74 Chinese-language peer-reviewed articles published between 2015 and 2020. Drawing on post-colonial theories, this review identifies four subject positions portrayed of the Chinese international students: the (1) neoliberal, (2) political, (3) pedagogic and (4) racialised subjects. This paper celebrates heartening developments in the literature which affirms Chinese international students’ epistemic contributions, legitimate pedagogic needs, notable heterogeneity and wide-ranging political, cultural and pedagogic agencies. It also highlights how aspects of these subject positions have exercised epistemic injustice on the Chinese international students. Meanwhile, it pinpoints the Chinese international students’ acquiescence in exacerbating global education inequalities. Among the first to bring the dominant English-language and ‘local’ perspectives of Chinese-language literature in dialogue, this article notes divergent focuses and indicates unique contributions to historicising research on Chinese international students made by the latter. This article challenges popular perceptions of Chinese international students, questions production of knowledge, and pinpoints future research directions.

Eco-friendly Grafting of Chitosan as a Biopolymer onto Wool Fabrics Using Horseradish Peroxidase

        Lingling Xu,Nan Zhang,Qiang Wang,Jiugang Yuan,Yuanyuan Yu,Ping Wang,Xuerong Fan 한국섬유공학회 2019 Fibers and polymers Vol.20 No.2

Chitosan and enzymes have been extensively used in modification of wool, due to their non-toxic and eco-friendly characteristics, as well as to reduce pollution in textile production. In the present work, chitosan was grafted onto wool fabrics using horseradish peroxidase (HRP) in order to endow wool with outstanding properties. The reaction mechanism, grafting percentage, and properties of chitosan-grafted pretreated wool fabric including wettability, dyeability, shrink resistance, and antibacterial activity were studied. P-hydroxyphenylacetamide (PHAD), as a model compound for tyrosine residues in wool, was used to study the mechanism of HRP-mediated grafting of chitosan onto wool. UV and FTIR analyses indicated that quinones, which are intermediate of HRP/H2O2-catalyzed PHAD, reacted with the amino groups of chitosan by Schiff base or Michael addition reactions. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) showed that dichloroisocyanuric acid pretreatment had an etching effect and some substances were deposited onto the wool fiber. SEM and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy further confirmed the covalent grafting of chitosan onto wool. Compared with chitosan-grafted unpretreatedwool, there was an obvious improvement in grafting efficiency of chitosan onto wool fabric, physical and mechanical properties after pretreatment and chitosan grafting on the wool. For chitosan-grafted pretreated wool fabrics, there was no observable change in the thermal behavior, while the hydrophilicity, dyeability, shrinkage resistance, and antibacterial activity were remarkably improved compared to that of untreated wool. The present work offers a new ecologically acceptable process of grafting chitosan on the wool.

( Jing Dong ),( Lingling Xia ),( Hefang Shen ),( Congwen Bian ),( Sujin Bao ),( Ming Zhang ),( Yan Dai ),( Yanhong Xu ),( Qiru Xiong ),( Jianjian Xu ),( Lili Xu ) 대한간학회 2018 춘·추계 학술대회 (KASL) Vol.2018 No.1

Aims: Liver transplantation is an effective approach to end-stage liver disease. Shortage of donor liver and increased waiting time for liver transplantation necessitate the development of an organ culture system by which livers can be cultured and maintained ex situ for a prolonged period of time. The aim of this work is to test whether cell culture condition in vitro could be used to culture whole livers ex situ without the use of erythrocytes. Methods: Eight castrated male land race/farm young porcine livers were exposed to 30 min warm ischemia and 30 min cold perfusion. Livers were isolated and connected to an ex situ liver culture system using a standard culture medium RPMI 1640 supplied with 10% of fetal calf serum and sufficient dissolved oxygen under a normothermic condition for 6 hours. Metabolic biomarkers, bile and urea production, hepatic cell viability, and histology analysis of biopsies were performed and analyzed. Results: Dissociated porcine hepatic cells survived and grew in vitro under the standard RPMI 1640 culture medium. When the same RPMI 1640 medium supplemented with 10% of FCS and sufficient oxygen was used to culture livers ex situ, over 98% of liver cells were viable for at least 6 hours during ex situ whole organ culture based on the results from biochemical assays. Conclusions: Our data demonstrate that the liver culture system established in this work can be used to culture whole livers ex situ in the absence of erythrocytes.

Phase transition, dielectric and piezoelectric properties of NaNbO3-Bi0.5Li0.5TiO3 lead-free ceramics

        Lingling Fu,Dunmin Lin,Qiaoji Zheng,Xiaochun Wu,Lang Wu,Hailing Sun,Yang Wan,Ximing Fan,Chenggang Xu 한국물리학회 2012 Current Applied Physics Vol.12 No.6

Lead-free ceramics (1-x)NaNbO3-xBi0.5Li0.5TiO3 have been fabricated by an ordinary sintering technique, and their electric properties and temperature characteristics have been studied. All the ceramics possess a perovskite structure with orthorhombic symmetry, indicating that (Bi0.5Li0.5)TiO3 diffuses into NaNbO3 lattices to form a new solid solution. A low (Bi0.5Li0.5)TiO3 doping level transforms the NaNbO3ceramics from antiferroelectric to ferroelectric. The ceramics with x ≤ 0.075 are normal ferroelectric, and the ferroelectric-paraelectric phase become diffusives with the doping level of Bi0.5Li0.5TiO3 increasing. As x increases, the Curie temperature of the ceramics decreases linearly, while the relative permittivity εr increases. 0.925NaNbO3e0.075(Bi0.5Li0.5)TiO3 ceramic exhibits the relatively large piezoelectric constant (d33 = 58 pC/N), high Curie temperature (TC = 228 ℃) and good temperature stability, suggesting that the ceramics are one of new possible candidates for lead-free piezoelectric materials. Discrete Element Simulation Study on Particle Segregation Effect of a Hemispherical Shell Swing-Oscillating Trough Under Combination Swing-Oscillating

Lingling Li,Zhenghai Liu,Jiaye Xu,Xuedong Ma 한국전기전자재료학회 2020 Transactions on Electrical and Electronic Material Vol.21 No.3

In order to enhance the segregation eff ect of material particles in a hemispherical shell swing-oscillating trough under combination swing-oscillating, by means of three dimensional discrete element method, and by use of the two-dimensional dry granules of plastic ball and steel ball, the discrete element simulation study of particle segregation process is carried out in turn in three cases, which is composed of a single swing-oscillating in smooth trough, a combination swing-oscillating in smooth trough, and a combination swing-oscillating in adding bulge trough. The particle segregation eff ect was evaluated by particle volume concentration and combined with segregation cloud picture simulated. The result indicates that segregation effect of combination swing-oscillating is better than that in single swing-oscillating; layering eff ect of the trough added bulge is better than that in the smooth trough. And compared to single swing-oscillating in smooth trough, the degree of segregation of particles in added bulge trough can be increased by 10–15% when being combination swing-oscillating.

Dermoscopy for the Diagnosis of Creeping Hair Caused by Ingrowing Hair: A Case Report

        Lijuan Xu,Xinhai Liu,Wei Zhu,Lingling Zheng 대한피부과학회 2023 Annals of Dermatology Vol.35 No.-

Creeping hair is a rare condition characterized by creeping eruption with a black line at the advancing end, mimicking cutaneous larva migrans. The condition is also referred to as cuta- neous pili migrans, migrating hair, and embedded hair. A total of 52 cases have been reported since 1957 and most cases were published in English. Herein, we report a case in which creep- ing hair occurred in the iliac region and review the literature from 1957 to February 2021. A 35-year-old Chinese female presented with a black moving linear eruption that had migrated from the lower abdomen to the iliac region without causing any symptoms during a 3-year period. Cutaneous examination showed a 6.5-cm-long black linear lesion beneath the skin that was revealed to be a hair shaft. After removal of the hair, the eruption diminished and no re- currence occurred in 3 months of follow-up. The creeping hair that had migrated with its lower end forward was confirmed by observation under dematoscopy and light microscopy. A review of the literature revealed that creeping hair occurs most frequently in young and middle-aged patients and the reported cases are mainly from Asia. The top locations involve the foot. The causative hair includes head hair, beard, pubic hair, body hair, and one case of dog hair. A close- up examination and dermoscopic inspection are helpful for the diagnosis of creeping hair.

Effect of additives on structure and corrosion resistance of ceramic coatings on Mg–Li alloy by micro-arc oxidation

        Shi Lingling,Xu Yongjun,Li Kang,Yao Zhongping,Wu Songquan 한국물리학회 2010 Current Applied Physics Vol.10 No.3

In order to improve the corrosion resistance of ceramic coatings formed on Mg–5mass%Li substrate by micro-arc oxidation (MAO) method, two kinds of additives (Na2B4O7 and EDTA) were doped in Na2SiO3–Na3PO4 solution system. The surface and cross-section morphology feature, phase composition and elemental composition were examined by SEM, XRD and EDX, respectively. Corrosion resistance of ceramic coating was tested by electrochemical methods. It was revealed that all coatings were composed of MgO and Mg2SiO4, and had porous surface structure. Doping of additives had little effect on the elemental composition, while it influenced the morphological feature of the coating. The results of electrochemical tests showed that the coatings prepared in the solutions with additive had good corrosion resistance. The addition of EDTA to the solution made coatings thinner and more uniform which resulted in better general corrosion resistance. The addition of Na2B4O7 to the solution made coatings much thicker and compacter, which improved the pitting corrosion resistance.

        RPK118, a PX Domain-containing Protein, Interacts with Peroxiredoxin-3 through Pseudo-Kinase Domains

        Long Yu,Lingling Liu,Chenyi Yang,Jian Yuan,Xiujuan Chen,Jianing Xu,Youheng Wei,Jingchun Yang,Gang Lin 한국분자세포생물학회 2005 Molecules and cells Vol.19 No.1

RPK118 is a sphingosine kinase-1-binding protein that has been implicated in sphingosine 1 phosphate-mediated signaling. It contains a PX (phox homology) domain and two pseudo-kinase domains, and co-localizes with sphingosine kinase-1 on early endosomes. In this study we identified a novel RPK118-binding protein, PRDX3 (peroxiredoxin-3), by yeast two-hybrid screening. The interaction between these proteins was confirmed by pull-down assays and co-immunoprecipitation experi-ments. Deletion studies showed that RPK118 inter-acted with PRDX3 through its pseudokinase domains, and with early endosomes through its PX domain. Dou-ble immunofluorescence experiments demonstrated that PRDX3 co-localized with RPK118 on early endosomes in COS7 cells. PRDX3 is a member of the antioxidant family of proteins synthesized in the cytoplasm and functioning in mitochondria. Our findings indicate that RPK118 is a PRDX3-binding protein that may be involved in transporting PRDX3 from the cytoplasm to its mitochondrial site of function or to other mem-brane structures via endosome trafficking
