      • Serum Tumor Markers, Hypoxia-Inducible factor-1α HIF-1α and Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor, in Patients with Non-small Cell Lung Cancer Before and after Intervention

        Objective: To explore changes in the serum tumor makers, hypoxia-inducible factor-$1{\alpha}$ (HIF-$1{\alpha}$) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) level and their relations in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) before and after intervention. Materials and Methods: Forty patients with NSCLC and 40 healthy individuals undergoing physical examination in our hospital provided the observation and control groups. HIF-$1{\alpha}$ and VEGF levels in serum were detected by enzyme-linked immuno-sorbent assay (ELISA) in the observation group before and after intervention and in control group on the day of physical examination, along with serum carcino-embryonic antigen (CEA), neuron-speci ic enolase (NSE) and squamous cell carcinoma antigen (SCC) levels in the observation group with a fully automatic biochemical analyzer. Clinical effects and improvement of life quality in the observation group were also evaluated. Results: The total effective rate and improvement of life quality after treatment in observation group were 30.0% and 32.5%, respectively. Serum HIF-$1{\alpha}$ and VEGF levels in the control group were lower than that in observation group (p<0.01), but remarkably elevatedafter intervention (p<0.01). In addition, serum CEA, NSE and SCC levels were apparently lowered by treatment (p<0.01). Serum HIF-$1{\alpha}$ demonstrated a positive relation with VEGF level (p<0.01) and was inversely related with CEA, NSE and SCC levels (p<0.01). Conclusions: Significant correlations exist between marked increase of serum HIF-$1{\alpha}$ and VEGF levels and decrease of indexes related to hematological tumor markers in NSCLC patients after intervention.

        Underdetermined Blind Source Separation from Time-delayed Mixtures Based on Prior Information Exploitation

        Recently, many researches have been done to solve the challenging problem of Blind Source Separation (BSS) problems in the underdetermined cases, and the “Two-step” method is widely used, which estimates the mixing matrix first and then extracts the sources. To estimate the mixing matrix, conventional algorithms such as Single-Source-Points (SSPs) detection only exploits the sparsity of original signals. This paper proposes a new underdetermined mixing matrix estimation method for time-delayed mixtures based on the receiver prior exploitation. The prior information is extracted from the specific structure of the complex-valued mixing matrix, which is used to derive a special criterion to determine the SSPs. Moreover, after selecting the SSPs, Agglomerative Hierarchical Clustering (AHC) is used to automaticly cluster, suppress, and estimate all the elements of mixing matrix. Finally, a convex-model based subspace method is applied for signal separation. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can estimate the mixing matrix and extract the original source signals with higher accuracy especially in low SNR environments, and does not need the number of sources before hand, which is more reliable in the real non-cooperative environment.

        Power line interference noise elimination method based on independent component analysis in wavelet domain for magnetotelluric signal

        With the urbanization in recent years, the power line interference noise in electromagnetic signal is increasing day by day, and has gradually become an unavoidable component of noises in magnetotelluric signal detection. Therefore, a kind of power line interference noise elimination method based on independent component analysis in wavelet domain for magnetotelluric signal is put forward in this paper. The method first uses wavelet decomposition to change single-channel signal into multi-channel signal, and then takes advantage of blind source separation principle of independent component analysis to eliminate power line interference noise. There is no need to choose the layer number of wavelet decomposition and the wavelet base of wavelet decomposition according to the observed signal. On the treatment effect, it is better than the previous power line interference removal method based on independent component analysis. Through the de-noising processing to actual magnetotelluric measuring data, it is shown that this method makes both the apparent resistivity curve near 50 Hz and the phase curve near 50 Hz become smoother and steadier than before processing, i.e., it effectively eliminates the power line interference noise.

        Solvent assisted dyeing of wool fibers with reactive dyes in a ternary solvent system for protecting fibers against damage

        Severe effluent pollution and chemical damage to protein fibers generated from conventional aqueousdyeing process have stimulated interest in exploiting sustainable dyeing of wool. Herein, an ethanol(EtOH)-carbon tetrachloride (CCl4)-water (H2O) ternary solvent system was used as the dyeing mediumto protect wool fibers from being damaged in the dyeing process. The wool fibers were firstly pretreatedin an aqueous acid solution, followed by dyeing in the EtOH-CCl4-H2O (45:50:5) ternary solvent systemwith reactive dyes. The results indicated that the acid pretreatment solution could be reused for severaltimes, the samples dyed in the EtOH-CCl4-H2O mixture with the investigated dyes showed higher K/S valuescompared to the conventional approach, implying the increased dye utilization and decreased effluentsdischarge were realized. Furthermore, acceptable permeability, good colorfastness, and satisfactoryleveling properties of the dyed samples were achieved using the developed method. Additionally, thesolvent-assisted dyed samples showed improved mechanical properties compared with the conventionallydyed samples. The dyeing mechanisms of wool fibers in the EtOH-CCl4-H2O mixture were illustratedin detail. The proposed dyeing technology consumes fewer energy, freshwater, and chemicals comparedwith the conventional wool dyeing method. Future work will principally concentrate on the reuse of thedye-contaminated EtOH-CCl4-H2O mixture.

        Robust Multi-Layer Hierarchical Model for Digit Character Recognition

        Although digit character recognition has got a significant improvement in recent years, it is still challenging to achieve satisfied result if the data contains an amount of distracting factors. This paper proposes a novel digit character recognition approach using a multi-layer hierarchical model, Hybrid Restricted Boltzmann Machines (HRBMs), which allows the learning architecture to be robust to background distracting factors. The insight behind the proposed model is that useful high-level features appear more frequently than distracting factors during learning, thus the high-level features can be decompose into hybrid hierarchical structures by using only small label information. In order to extract robust and compact features, a stochastic 0-1 layer is employed, which enables the model’s hidden nodes to independently capture the useful character features during training. Experiments on the variations of Mixed National Institute of Standards and Technology (MNIST) dataset show that improvements of the multi-layer hierarchical model can be achieved by the proposed method. Finally, the paper shows the proposed technique which is used in a real-world application, where it is able to identify digit characters under various complex background images.

        A novel clocking effect between inlet bend and volute in an automotive turbocharging system

        Numerical methods were carried out on a turbocharger compressor with inlet bent pipe to research a novel clocking effect between the inlet bend and the volute. It was found that the clocking effect with 3.4 percent of variations (1.9 percentage points) in compressor efficiency positively exists at the research point near chock. The reason for the changed efficiency loss is that the inlet bend induces a serious distortion of approaching flow to impeller inlet on one hand, and the downstream volute causes a circumferentially non-uniform distribution of pressure in vaneless diffuser. By adjusting the clocking positions between inlet bend and volute, not only is the unsteadiness of the flow rate through single impeller channel changed, but the uniformity of the incoming flow at the vaneless diffuser inlet is modulated as well. It is the dominant reason for the novel clocking effect that the bad uniformity causes more flow loss in both diffuser and volute.
