      • Riding off into the Sunset: Dual-Class Structure in the Age of Unicorns Going Public

        Hao LIANG,Junho PARK(박준호),Wei ZHANG 한국경영학회 2021 한국경영학회 통합학술발표논문집 Vol.2021 No.8

The increasing adoption of dual-class shares (DCS)-an ownership structure that gives corporate insiders superior voting power than other shareholders-among newly listed companies has raised significant governance concerns. We investigate the decision to adopt and the value implications of DCS structure in the recent U.S. IPOs. Using an instrumental variable approach, we find significant post-IPO outperformance by firms adopting DCS with sunset provisions, which stipulate DCS to cease after a certain period, compared to non-DCS firms and DCS firms without sunsets. This outperformance is more pronounced for firms in high-tech industries. DCS firms with sunset provisions are also associated with more innovative outputs, higher profitability, and a greater marginal value of cash holdings, suggesting that they have more value-enhancing investment opportunities. Our results provide a justification for the deregulation of the listing requirements by stock exchanges around the world.

Intensifying sulforaphane formation in broccoli sprouts by using other cruciferous sprouts additions

        Hao Liang,Yongqin Wei,Ruimin Li,Li Cheng,Qipeng Yuan,Fuping Zheng 한국식품과학회 2018 Food Science and Biotechnology Vol.27 No.4

Sulforaphane is a significant chemopreventive compound which is the predominant glucosinolate in broccoli sprouts. However, the existence of the epithiospecifier protein could direct the hydrolysis of glucosinolates toward sulforaphane nitrile formation instead of sulforaphane. Therefore, the study aimed on improving the yielding of sulforaphane in broccoli sprouts with a new method of the united hydrolysis of cruciferous sprouts. According to the results, the addition of radish, rocket and rape sprouts to broccoli sprouts could promote the hydrolysis of the glucoraphanin to anticancer effective sulforaphane to 2.03, 2.32 and 1.95-fold, respectively, compared to single broccoli sprouts. Meanwhile, the formation of non-bioactive sulforaphane nitrile in these three groups decreased greatly. However, the addition of mustard sprouts had no positive effect. These observations could make a contribution to the potential chemoprotective effects of broccoli sprouts.

Influence of errors and floating on static load-sharing characteristics of twin rotors concentric face-gear power-split transmission system

        Hao Dong,Hao-Qin Zhang,Gang Liang,Bing-Xing Ren,Xiao-Long Zhao 대한기계학회 2023 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.37 No.4

Twin rotors concentric face-gear power-split transmission system (TRCFGPSTS) is a new and more advanced main reducer configuration of the high-speed helicopter. Its loadsharing performance between different branches has a great impact on the service life performance. Its load distribution is complex, and the research on the influence law of error on loadsharing performance is not clear. Therefore, to study the influence of system error and pinions floating on the mechanical properties of the system, the static load-sharing mathematical model of the system was established. The load-sharing model comprehensively considers the factors of manufacturing error (ME) and installation error (IE), meshing stiffness, torsional stiffness, support stiffness and member floating. The coordination conditions of torsional angle elastic deformation of the system with central displacement offset and the mechanical balance conditions under the action of elastic support and floating support are derived, which reflects the change law of load distribution from the perspective of the system as a whole. The load-sharing model is solved by the least square method. The load-sharing coefficient (LSC) of the system is obtained. The influence of ME, IE and floating pinions on load-sharing performance is analyzed. The results show that the LSC shows irregular periodic fluctuation under the combined action of error, and the LSC is 1.212. Under the single influence of ME, the LSC also shows irregular periodic fluctuation, and the LSC is 1.610. Under the single influence of IE, the LSC presents a constant influence law, and the LSC is 1.326. The error of each gear in the III-stage has the most obvious influence on the load-sharing characteristics. The LSC of I-stage and II-stage floating pinion under the single influence are 1.113 and 1.120, respectively. The floating gear can significantly improve the load-sharing performance, and meet the load-sharing at the ±5 % service requirement.

      • Optimizing Channel Access in Wireless Local Area Network Environments with a New Backoff Approach

        Hao-Ming Liang,Ce-Kuen Shieh,Sherali Zeadally,Naveen K Chilamkurti 보안공학연구지원센터 2009 International Journal of Multimedia and Ubiquitous Vol.4 No.2

Over the past few years, several backoff algorithms such as Exponential Increase Exponential Decrease (EIED) and Adaptive Enhanced Distributed Coordination Function (AEDCF)) have been proposed for wireless local area networks to improve channel access. We propose a new backoff technique that monitors the number of backoff counter pauses experienced and modifies the contention window accordingly. We evaluate and compare the performance of our proposed approach with EIED and AEDCF channel access techniques. Our simulations results, obtained under different network conditions, show improved performance for metrics such as the fairness index and end-to-end delay.

Direct Ink Writing of Mineral Materials: A review

        Liang Hao,Danna Tang,Tao Sun,Wei Xiong,Zuying Feng,Ken E. Evans,Yan Li 한국정밀공학회 2021 International Journal of Precision Engineering and Vol.8 No.2

Due to the intrinsically limited mechanical properties, functionalities and structures of mineral material composites (MMCs) made through traditional fabrication approaches, there is a critical need to develop novel three dimensional (3D) forming techniques that can construct mineral material composites (MMCs) and structures with high performance and functionalities. The direct ink writing (DIW), as a slurry deposition based additive manufacturing approach for MMCs, offers many advantages in terms of high precision, complex geometry, multi-material capability, cost effectiveness and environmental friendliness. This review gives a comprehensive overview on the state-of-art of DIW fabricated MMCs, including material classification, formulation and processing. It presents the key aspects of material processing and their effects on the properties and performance of DIW formed mineral materials. In addition, it illustrates the applications of DIW in the fields of architecture, tissue engineering, functional micro parts and geological engineering modelling.

Compound glycyrrhizin injection for improving liver function in children with acute icteric hepatitis: A systematic review and meta-analysis

        Liang Shi-Bing,Hou Wen-Bin,Zheng Ruo-Xiang,Liang Chang-Hao,Yan Li-Jiao,Wang Hao-Nan,Cao Hui-Juan,Han Mei,Robinson Nicola,Liu Jian-Ping 한국한의학연구원 2022 Integrative Medicine Research Vol.11 No.1

Background: Compound glycyrrhizin injection (CGI) is a preparation with glycyrrhizin as the main active ingredient extracted from licorice. As clinical trials suggest that CGI is effective in improving liver function for acute icteric hepatitis in children (AIHC), this systematic review aimed to evaluate and verify its therapeutic effects and safety. Methods: Six electronic databases were searched from their inception to 15 May 2021. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) assessing therapeutic effects and safety of CGI for AIHC were included. The risk of bias for each trial was assessed using the Cochrane Risk of Bias Tool 2.0. Primary outcomes were indexes related to liver function, including total bilirubin (TBiL), alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and aspartate transaminase (AST). RevMan 5.4 software was used for data analyses. The certainty of the evidence was assessed using the online GRADEpro tool. Results: Six RCTs involving 608 children were included. The overall bias was assessed as having “high risk of bias” in all trials. All trials compared the combination of CGI and conventional western medicine (CWM) with CWM alone. Regarding the effects of CGI for AIHC, results showed that CGI plus CWM was superior to CWM alone in reducing the levels of TBiL (mean difference (MD) = -8.19 mmol/L, 95% CI -9.86 to -6.53), ALT (MD = -24.09 U/L, 95% CI -30.83 to -17.34) and AST (MD = -18.67 U/L, 95% CI -21.88 to -15.45). No trial reported adverse events. The certainty of the evidence for outcomes were all evaluated as low or very low. Conclusion: CGI may have adjuvant therapeutic effects on improving the liver function of children with AIHC. There is no evidence to determine the safety of CGI for AIHC. As current evidence is weak, further well-designed RCTs are required for verification of the therapeutic effects of CGI. Tanshinone IIA reduces pyroptosis in rats with coronary microembolization by inhibiting the TLR4/MyD88/NF-κB/NLRP3 pathway

        Hao-Liang Li,Tao-Li,Zhi-Qing Chen,Lang Li 대한약리학회 2022 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology Vol.26 No.5

Pyroptosis is an inflammatory form of programmed cell death that is linked with invading intracellular pathogens. Cardiac pyroptosis has a significant role in coronary microembolization (CME), thus causing myocardial injury. Tanshinone IIA (Tan IIA) has powerful cardioprotective effects. Hence, this study aimed to identify the effect of Tan IIA on CME and its underlying mechanism. Forty Sprague–Dawley (SD) rats were randomly grouped into sham, CME, CME + low-dose Tan IIA, and CME + high-dose Tan IIA groups. Except for the sham group, polyethylene microspheres (42 μm) were injected to establish the CME model. The Tan-L and Tan-H groups received intraperitoneal Tan IIA for 7 days before CME. After CME, cardiac function, myocardial histopathology, and serum myocardial injury markers were assessed. The expression of pyroptosis-associated molecules and TLR4/MyD88/NF-κB/NLRP3 cascade was evaluated by qRT-PCR, Western blotting, ELISA, and IHC. Relative to the sham group, CME group's cardiac functions were significantly reduced, with a high level of serum myocardial injury markers, and microinfarct area. Also, the levels of caspase-1 p20, GSDMD-N, IL-18, IL-1β, TLR4, MyD88, p-NF-κB p65, NLRP3, and ASC expression were increased. Relative to the CME group, the Tan-H and Tan-L groups had considerably improved cardiac functions, with a considerably low level of serum myocardial injury markers and microinfarct area. Tan IIA can reduce the levels of pyroptosis-associated mRNA and protein, which may be caused by inhibiting TLR4/MyD88/NF-κB/NLRP3 cascade. In conclusion, Tanshinone IIA can suppress cardiomyocyte pyroptosis probably through modulating the TLR4/MyD88/NF-κB/NLRP3 cascade, lowering cardiac dysfunction, and myocardial damage.
