      • In Vitro and In Vivo Anti-Inflammatory Effects of Sulfated Polysaccharides Isolated from the Edible Brown Seaweed, Sargassum fulvellum

        LeiWang,Hye-Won Yang,Ginnae Ahn,Xiaoting Fu,Jiachao Xu,Xin Gao,You-Jin Jeon 제주대학교 해양과학연구소 2021 해양과환경연구소 연구논문집 Vol.45 No.-

In the present study, the in vitro and in vivo anti-inflammatory effects of the sulfated polysaccharides isolated from Sargassum fulvellum (SFPS) were evaluated in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)- stimulated RAW 264.7 macrophages and zebrafish. The results indicated that SFPS improved the viability of LPS-stimulated RAW 264.7 macrophages from 80.02 to 86.80, 90.09, and 94.62% at the concentration of 25, 50, and 100 μg/mL, respectively. Also, SFPS remarkably and concentrationdependently decreased the production levels of inflammatory molecules including nitric oxide (NO), tumor necrosis factor-alpha, prostaglandin E2, interleukin-1 beta, and interleukin-6 in LPStreated RAW 264.7 macrophages. In addition, SFPS significantly inhibited the expression levels of cyclooxygenase-2 and inducible nitric oxide synthase in LPS-treated RAW 264.7 macrophages. Furthermore, the in vivo test results indicated that SFPS improved the survival rate of LPS-treated zebrafish from 53.33 to 56.67, 60.00, and 70.00% at the concentration of 25, 50, and 100 μg/mL, respectively. In addition, SFPS effectively reduced cell death, reactive oxygen species, and NO levels in LPS-stimulated zebrafish. Taken together, these results suggested that SFPS possesses strong in vitro and in vivo anti-inflammatory activities, and could be used as an ingredient to develop anti-inflammatory agents in the functional food and pharmaceutical industries.

      • In Vitro and In Vivo Photoprotective Effects of (-)-Loliode Isolated from the Brown Seaweed, Sargassum horneri

        LeiWang,Hyun-Soo Kim,Jun-Geon Je,Xiaoting Fu,Caoxing Huang,Ginnae Ahn,Jae-Young Oh,K. K. Asanka Sanjeewa,Jiachao Xu,Xin Gao,In-Kyu Yeo,You-Jin Jeon 제주대학교 해양과학연구소 2021 해양과환경연구소 연구논문집 Vol.45 No.-

Skin is the largest organ of humans. Overexposure to ultraviolet (UV) is the primary environmental factor that causes skin damage. The compound, (-)-loliode, isolated from the brown seaweed Sargassum horneri, showed strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities in in vitro and in vivo models. To further explore the potential of (-)-loliode in cosmetics, in the present study, we investigated the photoprotective effect of (-)-loliode in vitro in skin cells and in vivo in zebrafish. The results indicated that (-)-loliode significantly reduced intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) level, improved cell viability, and suppressed apoptosis of UVB-irradiated human keratinocytes. In addition, (-)-loliode remarkably attenuated oxidative damage, improved collagen synthesis, and inhibited matrix metalloproteinases expression in UVB-irradiated human dermal fibroblasts. Furthermore, the in vivo test demonstrated that (-)-loliode effectively and dose-dependently suppressed UVB-induced zebrafish damage displayed in decreasing the levels of ROS, nitric oxide, lipid peroxidation, and cell death in UVB-irradiated zebrafish. These results indicate that (-)-loliode possesses strong photoprotective activities and suggest (-)-loliode may an ideal ingredient in the pharmaceutical and cosmeceutical industries.

Shear Behavior of Corroded Post-Tensioned Prestressed Concrete Beams with Full/Insufficient Grouting

        Lei Wang,Zhuo Hu,Ju Yi,Lizhao Dai,Yafei Ma,Xuhui Zhang 대한토목학회 2020 KSCE Journal of Civil Engineering Vol.24 No.6

This paper experimentally studied the shear behavior of corroded post-tensioned prestressed concrete beams with full grouting. The effects of insufficient grouting in shear span on the shear behavior were also investigated. Eight beams were fabricated and divided into two groups: four beams with full grouting and four beams with insufficient grouting. Three beams in each group were subjected to accelerated corrosion. All beams were tested to failure in four-point loading. Experimental data on shear cracking, load-deflection response, shear strength and failure modes were presented. Results showed that strand corrosion accelerated the formation and propagation of diagonal crack. Insufficient grouting decreased the number of diagonal cracks. Strand corrosion degraded the post-cracking stiffness and shear strength. Insufficient grouting aggravated the propagation of diagonal crack and the degradation of post-cracking stiffness. The shear strength of corroded beam with 31.7% corrosion loss decreased by 15.44% as compared to that of the uncorroded beam. Strand corrosion loss less than 31.7% did not change the shear compression failure mode in fully grouted beams. The failure modes of locally ungrouted beams changed from shear compression failure to rupture of wires as the corrosion loss exceeded 39.6%.

Research on Large‑scale Photovoltaic Planning Based on Risk Assessment in Distribution Network

        Lei Wang,Minyu Yuan,Fan Zhang,Xuli Wang,Jing Ma,Lei Dai,Xianjun Qi,Rui Bi 대한전기학회 2020 Journal of Electrical Engineering & Technology Vol.15 No.3

Risks caused by large amounts of distributed photovoltaic (PV) feeding into distribution networks, have an impact on PV planning, which has become a critical consideration for distribution networks’ operation. In this paper, a large-scale PV planning method is proposed which based on risk assessment in distribution networks. Cluster division is used to group large-scale distributed PVs. A risk assessment is performed on the distribution network, considering the correlation between PVs and loads. The efects of load fuctuations, PV quantity, capacity and location on the operational risk of the distribution network are analyzed and discussed. A large-scale PV planning model is established with the goal of maximizing the comprehensive benefts, considering the penalty cost of node voltage over-limit and branch power fow over-limit risk. Finally, the genetic algorithm is used to solve the planning model. The simulation results demonstrate the efectiveness of the proposed method.

Active damage localization technique based on energy propagation of Lamb waves

Lei Wang,F.G. Yuan 국제구조공학회 2007 Smart Structures and Systems, An International Jou Vol.3 No.2

An active damage detection technique is introduced to locate damage in an isotropic plate using Lamb waves. This technique uses a time-domain energy model of Lamb waves in plates that the wave amplitude inversely decays with the propagation distance along a ray direction. Accordingly the damage localization is formulated as a least-squares problem to minimize an error function between the model and the measured data. An active sensing system with integrated actuators/sensors is controlled to excite/receive A0 mode of Lamb waves in the plate. Scattered wave signals from the damage can be obtained by subtracting the baseline signal of the undamaged plate from the recorded signal of the damaged plate. In the experimental study, after collecting the scattered wave signals, a discrete wavelet transform (DWT) is employed to extract the first scattered wave pack from the damage, then an iterative method is derived to solve the least-squares problem for locating the damage. Since this method does not rely on time-of-flight but wave energy measurement, it is more robust, reliable, and noise-tolerant. Both numerical and experimental examples are performed to verify the efficiency and accuracy of the method, and the results demonstrate that the estimated damage position stably converges to the targeted damage.

A Frame Collision Reduction Method for Safety Message Broadcasting in IEEE1609.4/IEEE802.11p based VANETs

( Lei Wang ),( Weiping Jing ) 한국인터넷정보학회 2018 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.12 No.3

Vehicular ad hoc network (VANET) is a dedicated network to connect vehicles without any centralized administration or infrastructure. The wireless access in vehicular environments (WAVE) protocol leveraging IEEE 1609/802.11p is widely implemented for VANETs. However, in congested traffic situation, the performance of the WAVE system degrades significantly due to serious collision, especially for safety related broadcast services on the control channel (CCH) interval due to the inherent drawback of its collision avoidance mechanisms called carrier sense multiple access with collision avoidance (CSMA/CA). In this paper, we propose a method that can decrease the number of frame collisions in CCH with a few modifications to the IEEE 802.11p protocol. In the paper, vehicles still employ CSMA/CA to compete for the channel access opportunity. However, by taking advantage of periodicity of synchronization interval, a two-state switching scheme introducing two new inter frame space (IFS) is proposed to reduce the number of competing vehicles substantially and as a result, the collision probability is significantly decreased. The simulation results demonstrate the superiority of the proposed method in packet collision rate.

Story of the monkey: The modular narrative and its origin of <The Uproar in Heaven>

Lei Wang 한국만화애니메이션학회 2012 만화애니메이션연구 Vol.- No.29

The essay explores the narrative structure of the classical Chinese feature animation, <The Uproar in Heaven> (a.k.a. Da Nao Tian Gong, 1964). The film is presented with a modular structure which is quite unique compared with the storytelling in feature animated films from other cultures, but could be connected with the tradition narrative structure in Chinese Zhanghui style novels in Ming and Qing Dynasty. By relating the original text of the story, the 16th century novel Journey to the West (a.k.a. Xi You Ji), with the film <The Uproar in Heaven>, the essay addresses the question of how the narrative tradition in Chinese classical literature influenced the Uproar in Heave for its segment narrative structure, character driven storytelling strategy and mirrored repetitive 2 plot lines. The subject of this essay is even more significant after the restored 3D version of <The Uproar in Heaven> was re-released in the spring of 2012 and became one of the best-selling animated feature film in the history of the country.

A clip domain serine protease stimulates melanization activation and expression of antimicrobial peptides in the Chinese oak silkworm, Antheraea pernyi

        Lei Wang,Liu Yang,Xiao-San Zhou,Tao-Hong Li,Chao-Liang Liu 한국응용곤충학회 2018 Journal of Asia-Pacific Entomology Vol.21 No.3

Clip domain serine proteases (Clips) mediate various biological processes, especially in insect immune responses such as prophenoloxidase (proPO) activation and Toll pathway initiation. In the present study, we cloned and studied the functions of a clip domain serine protease from Antheraea pernyi (ApSnake). ApSnake contains a typical clip domain and a trypsin-like serine protease domain. It shares high similarity with serine protease snake in Bombyx mori, and groups into the CLIPC family. ApSnake mRNA expressions were detected in all tested tissues, particularly high in the hemocytes. Challenged with four different microorganisms (Escherichia coli, Beauveria bassiana, Micrococcus luteus or Nuclear polyhedrosis virus), the expressions of ApSnake mRNA were induced significantly compared with control, particularly challenged by B. bassiana and M. luteus. Recombinant ApSnake protein stimulated melanization reaction and prophenoloxidase activation in A. pernyi hemolymph, but had no effect on phenoloxidase activity. Injection of recombinant ApSnake into A. pernyi larvae increased the transcript levels of proPO and antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) in hemocytes significantly. Our results suggested that ApSnake might be a modulating protein that both stimulate the melanization activation process and AMPs synthesis, and plays an important role in the innate immunity of A. pernyi.

Transcriptome reveals genes involving in black skin color formation of ducks

        Lei Wang,Hehe Liu,Bo Hu,Jiwei Hu,Hengyong Xu,Hua He,Chunchun Han,Bo Kang,Lili Bai,Rongping Zhang,Jiwen Wang,Shengqiang Hu,Liang Li 한국유전학회 2021 Genes & Genomics Vol.43 No.2

Background Skin color is colorful for birds, which has been reported to be associated with multi-biological functions, such as crypsis, camoufage, social signaling and mate choice, but little is known about its underlying molecular mechanism. Objective Studies on the major genes afecting the black skin color of ducks. Methods For this purpose, Silver ammonia staining and RNA-seq analysis were carried out to identify the diferences in tissue morphology and gene expressions between black and yellow skin ducks. Results The silver ammonia dyes slice results showed that in the development of black duck, the content of melanin in black skin gradually increased and then decreased, and the content of melanin in yellow and black skin was signifcantly diferent. Through transcriptome, a total of 102 and 84 diferentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identifed in beak skin and web skin, respectively. These DEGs were enriched in melanin biosynthesis and play a critical role in melanogenesis pathway. Co-expression analysis showed that EDNRB2 was the only gene associated with black skin color in DEGs, which was also consistent with qRT-PCR. Conclusions The melanin synthesis pathway dominated by EDNRB2 up-regulated the amount of melanin synthesis, leading to the formation of black skin in ducks.

Effect of Outdated Channel Estimates on Multiple Antennas Multiple Relaying Networks

( Lei Wang ),( Yueming Cai ),( Weiwei Yang ),( Wei Yan ),( Jialei Song ) 한국인터넷정보학회 2015 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.9 No.5

In this paper, we propose an intergraded unified imperfect CSI model and investigate the joined effects of feedback delay and channel estimation errors (CEE) for two-hop relaying systems with transmit beamforming and relay selection. We derived closed-form expressions for important performance measures including the exact analysis and lower bounds of outage probability as well as error performance. The ergodic capacity is also included with closed-form results. Furthermore, diversity and coding gains based on the asymptotic analysis at high SNRs are also presented, which are simple and concise and provide new analytical insights into the corresponding power allocation scheme. The analysis indicates that delay effect results in the coding gain loss and the diversity order loss, while CEE will merely cause the coding gain loss. Numerical results verify the theoretical analysis and illustrate the system is more sensitive to transmit beamforming delay compared with relay selection delay and also verify the superiority of optimum power allocation. We further investigate the outage loss due to the CEE and feedback delays, which indicates that the effect of the CEE is more influential at low-to-medium SNR, and then it will hand over the dominate role to the feedback delay.
